Does Final cut Studio require Admin rights or will it run as a standard user
I know that it has to be in Admin to install

If properly installed it will run on any type of account.

How many licences does Final Cut Studio Support? Its the latest one (3) btw. The one that has FCP 7
    Any input is highly appreciated

It can be installed on (1) desktop and (1) laptop, and you cannot use them at the same time. The idea is that you use the application when you are in your office, and if you need to go on the road, you can use it there, while the one in the office is not in use.

Does Final Cut Studio 2 work with Lion?

As Final Cut Studio consists of several applications, either go to your System Profiler under Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and select Applications to determine which applications are PowerPC, or visit this website and check the version info of each application to see what works and what doesn't:

  • Does Final Cut Studio run on a standard Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have seen Final Cut Studio 2 and it looks superb.
Before I buy it, I want to make sure...does it run on a Macbook Pro with 2GB memory and an ATI X1600 PCIe graphics card? (Standard Macbook Pro 15" 2.33GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo)
Do I need anything else? The Apple website is not fully clear about it (I think).
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Final Cut Studio Install and right click

I am considering buying a MacBook, in fact if I can sell my year old Toshiba Laptop for the price I want, I will purchase one.
I read on the FCS2 page that one can not install FCS2 on a computer with an Intel integrated graphics card. This stinks, but I understand why.
Currently, I only have another license for FCS1 with FCP 5.14, Compressor 2, DVDSP4, etc. Does FCS1 have the same graphics card limit as FCS2? If it does, is it possible to just install DVDSP and Compressor on my MacBook, or will it not allow me to even get that far to choose. I can understand that Motion and FCP would not run very well on an integrated graphics card.
Last question. I see there is a touch pad and a long rectangular mouse button. Is there anyway to make the mouse button right and left click, like you can with the mighty mouse or any actual 2 button mouse?
Thank you to those who can help!!

Final Cut Studio 1 has the same graphics card restrictions as the current version.
The MacBook has an option to enable two fingers (pressing two fingers on the trackpad) to enable a right-click automatically with the button. You don't need a two-button mouse.

  • How well does Final Cut Studio run with 3gb of ram? Macbook Pro 2.33mhz

I have a 2.33mhz (Model a1211) Macbook Pro. I've maxed out the ram to 4gb but because of the motherboard restrictions (that I still don't quite understand) it can only use 3GB.
I've read on the FCS specs that the minimum is requirement is 1GB but Apple recommends 4GB.
I cut mainly short 3 to 5 minute pieces with AVCHD video decoded with up to 60-90 minutes of footage.
Will I have any serious issues with any of the Final Cut Studio Programs that I should be aware of?
I'm obviously not expecting Mac Pro results but If it doesn't run very well with 3GB, I might have to rethink my purchase. If it is just a "hiccup" now and then with waiting for video to start or such, I will deal.
    Thanks

Motion is gfx intensive. Meaning that the lower the gfx card, the lower the performance. You should expect little-to-no realtime performance from Motion on the system mentioned with even basic-to-remotely-intermediate animations. CPU RAM will make a difference in the amount of total frames that you can render in a RAM preview, but it will not affect realtime performance. With your proposed system: add a particle, a lower third text, a replicator with 5,000 points, a light with some shadows, and a reflection (and this is one of each mind you, not multiple instances) and expect around a * less than * 1-3 fps playback in draft quality with %50-%25 playback resolution. Then expect to wait up to a minute or more with the beachball of death for each parameter change. No joke either. Good luck fine-tuning your moderate-to-even-remotely-complex animation with your desired system.
If working in Motion is your desire, then focus on the graphics card. Unfortunately you can not upgrade your gfx card on the MBP, so you should consider selling your MBP and investing in a Mac Pro. You can upgrade the gfx card in the Mac Pro and obtain optimal performance from Motion. Otherwise you'll literally be stuck in the mud with your animations.

  • How long does final cut studio crossgrade mail take?

Hey there, forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this.
I sent in my final cut studio discs with filled out form in about 4 days ago regular mail.
I scanned the discs before i sent them off and of course I still have my paperwork (serials) and all that.
What bothers me is that I check the status and there is no record of it.
there is also a field that is required for "company" and I dont have a company name so I have no idea if this is screwing up the whole look up.
Anyway, its probably that they havent recieved my discs yet, since 4 days isnt very long.
BUT, can anyone clue me in on how long it took to get their universal versions nial cut studio?

It took mine almost 2 weeks. It took almost a week for mine to show up on the status and when it did, it said backordered. Stayed that way for 4 or 5 days, then got an e-mail saying they had been shipped. Got them this past Saturday.
Company name doesn't matter. I didn't fill in one on the original form and didn't when used the status form.

  • Does Final Cut Studio deliver better quality than Final Cut Express

If my export target is Apple-TV 720p, is there any difference between the quality delivered in Final Cut Express versus the new Final Cut Studio? E.g. is it the same because Quicktime is doing it? I read something on the FCS home page that it "adapted the quality to the video content"? So would FSC somehow be better at utilizing the maximum 5Mbps data stream compared to FCE? Thanks.
    -Troels

+is there any difference between the quality delivered in Final Cut Express versus the new Final Cut Studio?+
Not really, not per se, for this purpose. There are many factors at play, very important among them is the nature of your source media - if it is shot on a high quality camera and captured in ProRes or one of the other higher quality codecs supported by FCS then maybe you would see a difference. What are you using?

  • Does Final Cut Studio have QuickTime Pro?

I have Final Cut Studio. I have been told part of the package is QuickTime Pro. If this is true, how do I activate it?

How do you backup registration information? Is this something done routinely by Time Machine?
Most of my applications have a registration code and either a purchaser name or email address. I am simply creating TextEdit files containing this information and storing them in a centralized folder which is then copied to each of my RAID drives for archiving, as well as, 2 USB thumb dives for mobile access. In addition, since Apple no longer backs up my QT MPEG-2 Playback component, I am storing the last three versions of this component on the same storage devices. As to Time Machine, it backs up changes to applications and documents which may or may not include the registration information depending on how it is stored relative to the application to which it refers. Unfortunately, I may manipulate hundreds of GBs of video data in a single day so I had to turn off Time Machine because it was not able to keep up will all the changes. The Time Machine-like routines that track changes at the application level under Lion are good enough for my normal daily work. My main interst is the protection of several TBs of archived documents and projects on the external RAID drives. If push comes to shove on the main system, I can always re-initialize/replace the internal drive and re-install the System OS and applications. (I.e., I don't keep anything on the internal or external boot drives that I can't afford to lose.)

  • Is Final Cut Studio O.K. for HD work?

    Hi,
I bought Final Cut Studio a while back. When I open Final Cut it says that I have Final Cut Pro not Studio. I wanted to do some work on HD footage. Do I need Final Cut Pro HD?
    Thanks

Which version of Final Cut Pro do you have? They don't need to say HD to work with HD. Only FCP 4.5 was dubbed "FCP HD" as it was the first version of FCP that captured HD (DVCPRO HD) via firewire. FCP 5.0 and above worked with HDV...you need 6.0.2 to work with AVCHD and XDCAM...and RED.
All depends on what version of FCP you have, and what format of HD you are working with. There are only a dozen HD formats or so.

  • What other software does Final Cut Express require?

Sorry for the totally ignorant question ... but I've just bought a new MacBook Pro and I'm ready to retire my ten year old Casablanca Kron, a dedicated video editing appliance with its own proprietary software that I've been using for all those years.
After a bunch of reading, it seems like FCE is right for me. I just want to make simple movies with clean transitions and good looking titles. On my old editor, I had to launch a separate program to create a DVD menu, render the movie, and burn the DVD. I think I actually had to pay again for the software to make the physical DVD on top of the editing software which was in the machine when you buy it.
Is FCE the same way? Once I make a movie, do I need a separate program to create a DVD menu, render the movie, and burn the DVD?
Or is that a part of FCE's abilities?
    -JOHN
ps. And I guess I should ask ... is there any software I'll "inevitably" end up buying within a year? These are not Hollywood movies I'm making ... just low-budget corporate videos that still need to look good enough to grab attention in a boardroom.

    +in addendum+ to Meg's excellent advice:
for me, it is essentiell to have some kind of 'painting'-app for usage of movie and disk-creation.
the many presets, templates, 'boiler plates' FC/e and iDVD come with are excellent designed ...- but perhaps you want a special pointer in your movie, your very own title-'chart', some home-brewn background for a title-animation, a hand-made 'cut out' mask ...
no need for the huge and complete Adobe Suite, Photoshop/elements, or, my favorite, Pixelmator do superb jobs for the video-maker.
and may I recommend one of my sites

  • How does Final Cut Studio run on a MacBook ?

Anyone installed it, and able to give comments & performance comparisons ?

Then no PC card addition 800 FW port or additional port ever... Nevertheless, you could still do DV and lower data rate stuff, however RT will be limited by FW 400, and you'll have to be careful about looping FW 400 devices. Use a known FW drive that loops your camera/deck's FW imput without a hitch. There's several out there that will not do this well. Look at Weibetech, Granite Digital or G-Tech drives, I know they work OK looping DV signals thru them.
I think I'd want a MacBook Pro for FCP myself, at least it's certainly worth the difference in price from the new MacBook...

  • Does Final Cut Studio Academic get Updates?

I was wondering if i was eligible for updates. I got my software when I was a student and I have been getting the Updates within the 5.0 + version.
However, when I went to get the 6.0 update off the Apple site, and put in my Academic serial number, it said it did not recognize it (after several ensured attempts)... Anyone know wussup?

Academic versions are not eligible for the major upgrades. 5.0 to 5.0.4...5.1 to 5.1.4...yes. 5.1 to 6.0? No. That is one of the reasons the Academic version is cheap. To allow you to learn the application while in school. When you leave, then it is time to buy it for real...if you want the new version.
It is all in the Academic license.

    Hi, David,
Is it really that much faster to read an external drive than to read the CD drive?  Up to 20 X faster?   Or is it that something is seriously wrong with my CD drive?
    thanks,
    Michelle
External hard drives are 10x (more or less) faster than CD's/DVD's to read and write too. Is faster to rip a DVD/CD and put it on a hard drive and read/write from that file than it to read and write to a DVD/CD.
DVDs/CDs are old school for holding data and... Apple doesn't use them any more... Not to long you will see and end to DVDs/Cds (blu-ray too).
