Does Firefox 26 use .json for bookmarks?

I ask this because I just lost everything in a crash and was wondering if there might be any bookmark backups lying around on other drives. I searched *.json and only came up with results from 2010. I'll use one of those in a pinch but was wondering a) why results didn't come up for my new profile (dated today) and b) if I could search for any other file types on my machine that might lead to more recent backup files?
Is question a) because my profile is too new to have generated any backups?
Thanks!
I'm on XP SP3.

Hi John99 and Cor-el, thanks for the responses.
John99, a few weeks ago, my 3.5 year old SSD just up and stopped working. It couldn't be detected by the bios. So I got another and am basically starting from scratch. Back when I set everything up, I took a copy of the profile and saved it, so I think I can get a very old version of my bookmarks from there. Haven't tried yet though.
I did a search for .json files and there are a few, but nothing came up later than 9/2010. So I think I'll try importing those using the profile manager.
I was asking this question as a long shot because I'm pretty sure that any backup Firefox would have created all would have been on my now dead SSD. So to answer your first question, my profile died with the drive.
As far as a reset, I think I did reset at one point and I wonder if a profile is lurking around. That's why I was searching for .json files. Are there any other files I can search for that might help me find a more recent profile? Obviously, my desktop didn't survive the crash.
May I repost something here that I posted in another thread, to see if you can give some insight? I would like to store my current, working profile on another drive in my system, and I was told to create an new profile using profile manager in the new spot (E:), then paste my old profile in there (but I'll probably just import the bookmarks).
Here are a couple of my questions regarding better crash proofing my system:
There will be the current profile on C: and also the new one on E:, so will Firefox immediately start using that new profile, or do I have to specify which profile to use, or when to switch when Firefox starts back up? Is there a way to switch back and forth?
If this happens in the future, how then could I direct a new install of Firefox to start using this profile that will be located on E:. For example, OE6 has a place in Options where you can select your "store folder". All you have to do is point it there and it starts using all of my old folders, inbox, sent, etc. I wish Firefox had something this easy.
Thanks guys.

  • Why does firefox drop support for a plugin with an update

Why the H*ll does Firefox drop support for a plugin when there is an update in Firefox.
FF4 has reported that 6 of my plugins that work fine in 3.6 are now not supported. !! This is a joke, and happens regularly.
As a user (a highly IT literate one) this is annoying and frustrating, and from a design standpoint, unprofessional.

Plugins as in Flash, Java, quicktime or such or do you mean Extensions ?
Plenty of Plugins seems to be detected and in use by Firefox 4.0 just fine according to your system details by your post.
If you meant Extensions then check for updates, look at addons.mozilla.org or the Extension homepage for to see if the author has provided a update.
Generally Extensions can need anywhere from a simple maxversion bump to a lot more for it to work properly on a new Major version of Firefox depending on what the Extension does.
It is professional actually as extensions that were not actually compatible may actually cause problems big or small if they were to still just ''work'' in a new Major version release so hence the need for them to be properly up to date on any changes and hopefully the extension author is quick about it.

  • Flash no longer functions on Firefox for my macs. I re-loaded flash by doing it from Safari. Used Safari to ask this quest since firefox uses flash for tho

I have tried everything. uninstall reinstall. I couldn't test for flash because the function wouldn't work. I uninstalled Firefox twice and uninstalled flash twice. I cleared history, etc. I called my tech support for my multiple listing service, since I can't even log on without flash. He checked everything, and told me he couldn't figure out why it is not working. the plugin for shockwave flash is there. I know flash is on my machine because when I tried to install it after installing it this morning, it said it was already installed with the latest version. Later on I uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Flash works on Safari and Chrome. Only Firefox has this problem. I am very frustrated. I had to use Safari to even use your "ask a question" since Firefox uses flash to ask a question!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

  • Context menu hotkey to open in new tab is different for links (T) & bookmarks (W); using T for bookmark deletes bookmark!--why?

When I want to open a link in a new tab, I right-click and press T. I ''think'' that the same key used to work for opening bookmarks in new tabs, also. At least I developed a reflex that always chose T for a new tab, whatever I was right-clicking on. Then a while ago, probably after one of the updates I automatically install (some time in version 3.x), I started noticing something different and extremely frustrating: not only is the hotkey for opening bookmarks in new tabs now different (W instead of T), which is just poor design--but to add injury to insult, when my still-stubborn reflexes pressed T, the bookmark was ''deleted''. Gone. I have thousands of bookmarks, and I make them so I don't have to remember things. If one is lost, there may be no finding the page again.
    EDITED:
Having posted this problem, I just realized that I've answered the why-it-happens part of the question. We're left with the why-was-it-allowed-to happen, but that's unimportant if we can put an end to the confusing behavior.
T in the bookmark panel and menus is Cut, which is standard in all kinds of software, and that my lost bookmarks could be restored IF I remembered to paste them again immediately. (I swear I checked it out just before originally posting, and Cut didn't appear, though Copy did. Maybe I was hallucinating.) Anyway, knowing this will help with the long-term problem, but it's still a bad idea to have two different hotkeys for the same operation. Hence what needs to change is using T as the hotkey in the links context menu.
Here's my proposal: Change the hotkeys for "Open in new window" and "Open in new tab" in both the right-click menu for links and the right-click menu for bookmarks. Right now we have:
    Links
    * Open Link in New Tab (T)
    * Open Link in New Window (W)
    Bookmarks
    * Open Link in New Tab (W)
    * Open Link in New Window (N)
N0te that the bookmarks menu is mnemonically backwards; Window should be W. Both menus should be:
    * Open Link in New Tab (N)
    * Open Link in New Window (W)
Can someone take care of this in an update, please?

This also drives me nuts, I work in research online and use firefox as its tabbed browing is so good, and I ofetn have to open lots of links in rapid succession from web-pages - obviously I use right click T as the fasterst method of doing this, and I use it so ofetn that it is now a reflex.
But, whenever I try to open a bookmark from my toolbar (much less often) I tend to deletye it, and if I am lucky enough to notice before I do anything else I have to go through a laborious process to undo the delete...
Interesting to read the reason above, but I would suggest that this is something that needs to be standardised across all of a browser's context menus, otherwise browsing becomes jarring.
I am all in favour of 'T' opening in a new tab from all context menus, but if this is not do-able I think you should consider picking a different letter. The N & W proposal above is good.
    Thanks!

  • Why does firefox switch back to bookmarks after I am on a web page ?

This happens every time I go from selecting a bookmark to that page. It just annoying enough for me to yank my hair out, if i had any. Thanks, Max

I have two antivirus programs on my computer. The default windows thing and MalwareBytes (which I perform a full scan with everyday) and I still have the problem.
Hate to be a "problem child" but could anyone post an answer to this problem that isn't something that is obvious that should be done like resetting firefox or check for a virus or mess with the tabs options which I have tried every combination of the options that could be tried.
I mean does anyone else anywhere have this same problem? What I don't understand is that I posted this question two days ago and it doesn't look like anyone else has asked for help with this same issue.
What I really don't understand is why I can't find out anything doing an internet search using "why does Firefox keep returning to the webpage i am currently on when i open a new webpage" and so far no one has suggested something I have already tried.
If Mozilla had some kind of phone number or email contact info then I could probably get this whole thing solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's with the crazy idea to use swipe for bookmarks?

    Web apps use swipe!
See the android browser for a bookmarks example.

    Hi,
Thanks for this feedback, we are working on an update to Firefox mobile that removes the swipe for bookmarks (it removes the sidebar menus altogether). It won't be int he next major update for Firefox 10, but in the following one, you will see the change to remove them and bookmarks will be in the menu button.

  • Does Firefox use Internet Explorer in any way? When I go to CCleaner to delete history, there are always IE files as well as Firefox, my default browser and I don't use IE. It doesn't make sense to me, but then, I don't know much.

I don't know what I can add... thanks for any help.

Firefox itself does not use the IE temporary internet files location, but some plugins will save data to the same place as IE.

  • Where does Firefox save UserID for Verizon Mail?

I use Verizon Mail with Firefox. The User ID
for verizon mail is one's email address. However,
if you mistakenly type something else other than
the correct User ID in the box, the computer
dutifully remembers it along with the correct
one! Where does Firefox save these User IDs
for Verizon Mail so that I can kill the incorrect
    ones?

Almost. You have to highlite the offending entry
and then HOLD down the Shift Key and then
hit the Delete Key. I found this answer that
works by searching on the web which led me
back to this site. The original posted question
was stated somewhat differently than mine.

Whereas /etc/default/passwd on the ldap client says passwords must be 8 characters. This is seen with the pam_authtok_check: minimum length from /etc/default/passwd: 8
. It is clearly not using the policy from the directory server but checking locally. So I can login ok using the ldap server for authentication but when I try to change the password it does not use the policy from the server which says I only need a minimum lenght of 6 characters.
I have read that pam_ldap is only supported for directory server 5.2. Because I am running ds6 and with password compatability in ds6 mode maybe this is my problem. Does anyone know of any updated pam_ldap modules for solaris 9?

  • I have windows 7 with 64 bit. Does Firefox use 64 or 32 bit for the browser?

I have tried the plug in update and it tells me that Java needs to be updated but I am not sure if Firefox is using 64 or 32. Please advise.

I'm not a developer, I'm a hardware/ OS guy so I'm sure my question will get me a lot of eye rolls. but I know personally I've been monitoring the progress of 64 bit browsers especially Firefox, and Mozilla has had multiple versions of a 64 bit browser, the most recent I believe WAS version 8, but now that version 8 will be the next major upgrade, Version 10 is going to be the version released with a full feature 64 bit version.
OK OK I'll get to the point. Why is 64 bit such a huge problem for mozilla that it keeps getting delayed... over... and over... and over? We're talking over several years. Im sure it's a valid reason but being a hardware guy, after a couple years of the same pattern, I finally have to ask. I'm mean even Adobe has beat you to the world of 64 bit with their version of flash. And that's saying something because they were really dragging their feet. (for the record firefox is my browser of choice hence my inquiry)

  • Does somebody know how to make Firefox use Gstreamer for HTML5 video?

    ... especially for Youtube ?
    Thanks.

Sorry, I don't get it… does it apply to standard firefox now or why does it say core? If it's still fennec only, I'd love to see one for desktop firefox, too - but I'm not to sure I can open a bug/feature request in an orderly fashion, so maybe someone with smoother "bugtracker skills" might want to.
    (Also: vote! )

  • Does Firefox use advertising pop-ups for revenue?

I am thinking about installing Firefox but, I don't believe in a "free" lunch. Ergo my question.
How can Mozilla "give away" Firefox? Is it supported by pop-up advertising or sale of accumulated browsing data?

No, Firefox is run by Mozilla which is separated into a non-profit foundation and a corporation, the latter receives a percentage of Google's revenue from search result click-throughs via the specific Google default in Firefox's search bar. Installing the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 Adblock plus] extension so no ads are visible on google search result pages or just changing to a [http://mycroft.mozdev.org/all-google-search-plugins.html different google search] will mean Mozilla gets nothing.

  • I uninstalled firefox, removed all traces of firefox "directories, registry entries" then installed v5 AND I get sqlite3.ddl is missing from your computer. Does firefox use sqlite3.ddl and js3250.dll?

I used v4 with no problems, upgraded to v5 and dll problems began. I installed an older version of firefox and noticed sqlite3.dll was part of the install. Ran the upgrade and the upgrade process removed sqlite3.dll.
I tried saving the sqlite3.dll from the v3 firefox install and placed it in the window/system32 folder. Firefox then reports an invalid entry point into sqlite3.dll and js3250.dll

You can't do that. Such files are for a specific Firefox version.
You need to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Does Firefox accept suggestions for becoming a better browser (than the others)?

Well, does it? And if so, then where should I post the suggestion? I repeat, this is browser related. (First time on this forum and I'm just trying not to post in the wrong place).
    Thanks

Thanks Diego and john99. Since you're obviously nice and knowledgeable guys ready to help, I'd love to hear what you think about my suggestion:
Here is the problem that EVERYBODY browsing the Internet has: They are reading an article which is undated (billions of them online) and don’t have any date reference when the author of the article says things like “last month that happened” or “next week will fix it” (in the reader’s mind: “last month means what month and what year?!”, same for “next week”, “two years ago” and so on).
Now it is obvious that some grandma, or even some knowledgeable dude (in a rush) are highly unlikely to do the following:
    (1) Right-click on the article s/he’s reading (in whatever browser);
    (2) Click on “View page source”;
    (3) CTRL + F
    (4) Enter “date” in CTRL+F’s search box;
    (5) Scroll thorough all returns for “'''date'''” including those from such words like consoli'''date''', up'''date''', vali'''date''' and so on until s/he finds '''Date'''Published
    (6) Then do the math for “22 days ago they disappeared into the jungle”. Now I’m not complaining about point (6) but it comes handy in my proposal for Firefox to become the most appreciated browser just by fixing a detail that everybody ignored so far.
All steps (1) to (6) can be easily solved by a programmer (working for Firefox) with just a few lines of code. If you do so, do it the elegant way – to make sure you make a difference and please the billions of frustrated online readers -- as follows (I’ll be brief, since everybody that’s eyeing this forum instead of watching ‘Desperate Housewives’ will instantly understand what I’m talking about):
In an article that someone reads in your browser, identify and highlight (by using a certain font/color, or whatever else that will become common knowledge) the words related to a date (like “3 months from now”, “2 weeks ago” and so on), so this words, when hovered over => a tooltip inside which the math is done (taking into account the date the article was published) in an Excel (or similar) fashion and displaying exactly what “2 weeks ago” or “3 months from now” means.
For instance if the article is written/published on 9/13/2013 then this is what it’ll be displayed: for “4 days ago”: 9/9/2013, for “next month”: Oct. 2013 and so on; the user can customize the format of the dates displayed in the tooltip.
By elegantly fixing this very annoying online reality Firefox will have the most satisfied customers.
