Does firefox really need 1GB of RAM and half the CPU to run?

Granted, I have two or three dozen tabs open, but still. This last time, it ended up being marked as "not responding" by Windows and the details included in the dialog are included below. I wish I didn't have to force quit and restart, so what I would like to have is a panel I could open to get a profile of the memory and CPU for each open tab, and maybe some way to flush parts of the heap.

No I doubt it should. Try keying in'' about:memory'' in the location bar, and for ideas look at the blogs by a developer interested in this subject http://blog.mozilla.com/nnethercote/

  • Seriously, does it really need to be a new version EVERYTIME I launch Firefox? Is it that buggy? It's super annoying.

Seriously, does it really need to be a new version EVERYTIME I launch Firefox? Is it that buggy? It's super annoying.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Asks me to update FIrefox.

Some different bugs do get fixed with every update, but most of the time you see an update it's because a security exploit was found.
And rather than wait a month or 2 months like Microsoft does, the Firefox team measures how bad the security exploit is and then based on that decides whether to release an immediate update or wait til the next scheduled release of Firefox, which is usually a month or more away.
This way you're protected from whatever the security problem was. And they usually group a couple of security fixes together before giving the new update. So you just don't get 1 fix per version.
So it's not like: Oops, found a security bug! Let's give everyone a new version now! Uh-oh found another one. Let's give a new version again right now!
Yes, it is a bit annoying to be asked to update so often but you can turn off updates if it really bothers you that much.
Although of course, there's like hundreds of Mozilla people that would advise against doing that. You know, security risks, and all that stuff. ;)

  • Firefox really needs a Refresh button. It is prone to hanging up.

Firefox really needs a refresh button. It should tell the page to reload with the current site address. The lack of such a feature leaves the program prone to lockups - for whatever reason.
I've scanned the user comments and this request has been made many times before I've requested it again today.

Nobody has an answere? Oh well, not a big problem. Thanks for looking.

  • Does one really need 3G if they already have a cell phone

Does one really need an iPad with 3G if they allready have a cell phone.

It depends on the situation. For some people, they may either not need the iPad to connect to the Internet when away from WIFi, or have an Internet-capable smartphone and can tether the iPad to the phone to use the data connection and don't mind carrying both. For others, that's either not possible or not practical, or they wish to have the GPS only available in the 3G iPad, not the WiFi-only iPad.
If you're asking whether you need 3G in an iPad, we can't guess without having more information about your needs.

  • Does Aperture really need 25GB of thumbnails?

I know what thumbnails are and I understand that aperture needs them in order for me to view the files in the browser.
But for a 33K image library, does aperture really need 35GB of thumbnails? Surely each image only needs to be a few KB?
Is there any way to reduce the thumbnail foot print? It would enable me to comfortably store the Library on the boot SSD.
    Regards

Earlier versions of aperture3 had issues with generating thumbnails and ballooning size.
Thumbnails in aperture are actually about 1024x1024 - My 30K refrenced library has about 9GB of thumbnails.
Since you have an SSD you will love doing a referenced library setup on the ssd - the library FLIES on an SSD since there are so many small files to deal with - My recommendation would be to right click and inspect the contents of your Library, move the thumbnails out of the folder, copy the library (without the thumbnails) to your SSD, You can then put the old thumbnails folder back in your old library after the copy - open the library up on the SSD and let aperture rebuild the thumbnails from scratch on your SSD.

  • Does AppleTV really need an internet connection

Just a quick question - does AppleTV really need an internet connection. I am really struggling with the same syncing problems that many people describe on these forums. AppleTV will show on my devices now and again, it tries to authorise with iTunes, syncs for a while and as long as it is connected and showing in the device list I can view any of my movies, TV programs or music on my AppleTV.
But for some unknown reason the Apple TV fails to sync properly, disappears from the devices list and then tells me that there is no content stored on my AppleTV. Very frustrating as you can imagine. Everything checks out - I have good signal strength, can browse the iTunes store and Youtube but the syncing just isn't working.
I have read about problems with the BT Home Hub that I am using for my wireless network and despite taking the recommend steps to open the relevant ports on the hub to allow my AppleTV and computers to talk to each other properly I encounter the same problems.
As a solution I was thinking that I could buy a wireless router and create a network that is separate from the network that I have for the internet and try syncing through that. I don't really want to spend money on a new router unless it is likely to solve the problem.
    What do you think?

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Latest update: I decided to try it and have had some success. I acquired a basic Netgear wireless router and set it up in isolation from my BT Home Hub network. I used the basic settings wizard and let it do it's thing.
The AppleTV does show in my devices list however it does disappear randomly every now and again. Syncing has worked although for some reason I can only sync one item at a time - leaving me to have to repeatedly hit sync on iTunes, which is irritating but much less than not being able to sync anything at all. I have since dedicated my old iBook to the new network to act as my media machine.
Conclusion: I'm not sold on this as a solution but as I'm not bothered about accessing the internet through AppleTV it suits me for now. I just wish that I had not bothered with AppleTV and just got a MacMini. For all the hassle and the usability issues I would gladly have paid the extra £200 or whatever.
When it works the AppleTV is great but when it doesn't I just want to throw it out of the window.

  • Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time

Why does FireFox open as a very small box in the top l/h corner and i have to resize it every time this only occurs on the initial opening up of F/Fx after boot-up

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.<br />
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

    Hi SwarovskiUK,
I'm sorry to hear that you've been having trouble contacting Customer Care. Live Chat is certainly available--are you not seeing the chat option on the Contact Customer Care page? Or are just not able to get through?
In any case, I should be able to help you myself. What can I do for you?

Does Macbook really needs adobe flash player download in order to watch video clips on the web?

    Hello Angel8C,
Your MacBook Air running Yosemite will need an updated version of the Flash Player plugin to play web content that is in the Flash format (not all video content is Flash; there is also HTML5 video, amongst others). If you are being prompted to update your Flash Player plugin, you may find the following article helpful:

I want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through the long tedious procedure each time I install firefox. It is something that should be in the options tab , and I want to know why it isn't. I am totally frustrated with firefox and getting ready to switch.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • Who really needs both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC(2014)

Who really needs both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC(2014). Which is newest ?

CC 2014 is the newer version. Regarding having both versions; when Adobe releases a new version with many additions and upgrades they quite often introduce lovely new bugs. So it's often nice to be able to keep the old version for a while until you can make sure that the new version works as its supposed to. Maybe not so often the case with Photoshop, but VERY useful with some other programs ... like *cough*... Premiere Pro!
