Does Flash player render font-types differently depending on platform?

We published a captivate course that uses all sans serif fonts. The fonts appear as expected when tested in Firefox and Safari on OS X 10.8.5. However, when tested in IE8 on Windows 7 one of the text captions appears as a serif font. Does Flash player render font-types differently depending on platform?

Hi,
I did as you suggested. The repost is in the "PDF language" forum, and we have an indication that the pdf file might be ambiguous as to the choice of a transparency blending space:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/714292
However, in the meantime, I noticed that this issue is not (or hardly) noticeable if the file is opened as the first file in the session. However, as soon as one file (the same or another one) has been opened (and possibly closed - does not matter as long as the Reader stays open) and the file in question is loaded by any means (drag&drop, File-Open, Explorer double-click), it becomes really ugly. I guess this is why many people in the discussion boards have a hard time reproducing this issue, leading to the assumption that it is very system specific. I assume it is quite general.
In any case, if a file looks differently depending on whether another file has been open before, this is DEFINITELY a thing to look into for the Reader guys, wouldn't you say?
Best regards,
bersbers

Why does flash player not work with fcebook?  Whenever I wish to view a video, I get the message that i need to upgrade my flash player. This means you don't have the latest version installed.  Update to 11.9.900.117, and Firefox will allow it: Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

  • Does Flash Player protected mode / disabling it have any effect on XP?

Does Flash Player protected mode / disabling it have any effect on XP / Firefox?

Been experiencing severe slowness and lock-ups with Firefox of late (since 27.0 / 28.0),  which ends with a sudden drop in memory usage and me having to  repeatedly shut it down through Task Manager. I have created a new profile and disabled hardware acceleration. I have tried disabling all  plug-ins and extensions, yet I noticed that at times (not always) plug-in container was still an active process, which I don't understand. Why would it be active when there are no enabled plug-ins? I also noticed that when plug-in container is not active (showing under Processes in Task Manager) I do not have this problem and Firefox runs normally?
I have run MalwareBytes, TDSSKiller, Hitman Pro and McAfee Stinger - no threats found.

No, the silent background update does not need a restart to complete the installation.
However, it may need to wait until the browser is restarted in order to delete old files.  Nothing to worry about.

  • Why does Flash player not work on samsung galaxy tablets?

Hello, I am wondering why they do not have flash player for samsung galaxy tab 3? I just recently got the 8.0 sized one and it has great features, but no flash player? To have an up to date electronic device, and older electronic devices carry it,but you won't put it on new devices? Is there a way to get it to work or download it? It has stopped me from viewing many different things on my tablet unfortunately and this may cause me to return it.

Android dropped all support for Flash last year (June 2012).
Going back to 2006, when Apple released the first iPhone and iOS 1, Steve Jobs was insistent that it be made incompatible with Flash Player because (in his words) playing Flash content is processor consumptive and kills batteries, and well as shortening battery life in mobile devices. Android came along a little while later, but their reason for droppiong Flash last year was the same.
Adobe continued developing "security updates" for the Flash Player that worked with older versions of Android, but even that ended in September of this year. Adobe will not continue development of a product for an incompatible format.
Android recommends either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" browser from the GooglePlay store (both are free). They use "server side" technology to play Flash content without taxing your tablet or phone's processor.

  • Re: What can I do if Flash player isn't working at all?  Does Flash player work on Macs?

    March 1 2015
I'm just gonna keep updating this as I can't really do anything else. I've found several more questions like mine with no answers. I did find one with an answer that mentions that it may be the video card acting up, so I'm gonna post a screenshot of my information.
    March 1, 2015
I posted this question on the 25th, and have yet to receive an answer. Because of this crashing problem, I can't do anything on my computer outside of play solitaire, and hang around Adobe communities looking for an answer. I've found several questions like mine (Mac, firefox, flash player constantly crashing) that have no answers either, and I'm getting upset. I've been floating around Mozilla and Apple's help sections, and there's no answer there either. How do I get an answer? Or is there just no fix for this issue and Flash player doesn't work on mac anymore? Is there another program that I can use in place of Flash player? I would very much like an answer, response, or anything cause I stuck here till then. Thank you for you time.

What can I do if Flash Player is not working at all?
    MacBook Pro 10.6.8
    Firefox 36.0 no plugins
    Adobe Flash Player 16.0.0.305
    Hello,
Since   last week, Adobe Flash Player has not worked on my computer at all. I   can't watch any videos, and any webpage using Flash for the ads  crashes.  I tried using Adblock initially thinking that the ads were the  problem  because they have frozen my computer in the past. This did  nothing, so I  went through the trouble shooting guide for Flash on  Mozilla's website.  I removed all plugins, disabled hardware  acceleration, and even  uninstalled Firefox and Flash player then  reinstalled them again. It  still keeps crashing, and I don't know what  to do anymore.   Is there anything that can be done? Thank you for your  time.

    Hi Chelsea,
The USER forums are a forum for users, while Adobe staff does participate it is not our primary responsibility to participate and we post in-between our regular work.  Since these are primarily user forums a time-frame for responding is not guaranteed, especially if another user is not familiar with the issue and can't be of assistance.
Please file a bug at https://bugbase.adobe.com/ and include as much information as possible, including attaching the entire contents of the crash log file.  Please post the bug number here and I'll triage the bug to get it to the right folks for investigation.

  • Why does Flash Player prompt me to install an incompatible version on Mac?

Users of OS X 10.5 and 10.4 have noticed that with the release of Flash Player 11, the auto update mechanism will prompt them that an update is available.  While this is typically normal behavior when an update occurs, in this case Flash Player 11 does not support 10.4 and 10.5.   So, why is the updater telling them to update?
Unfortunately, our current auto update mechanism isn't able to determine if a new update is compatible with the current OS version.  We are aware that this isn't optimal, but we did add in logic to help minimize the noise.  Here's what will happen.
A user of an unsupported OS will get a notification that a new update is available
They'll download the update and attempt to install
The installer will notice that the OS is not supported and will:
Alert the user with an error telling them that the OS is unsupported
Set a flag telling the update mechanism to stop checking for future updates
So while you'll get one update notification, once the installer tells the auto update mechanism to stop you shouldn't see any more.

Can you post a screenshot of such an update notice?

  • Satellite C850 - Why does Flash Player give me choppy videos?

Hi, I have the Satellite C850-1MD, PSCBWE, Windows 8.1 64-bit.
    I have two problems.
    A. When I use Flash Player for streaming videos it gives me choppy playback. It *doesn't matter* if I use lower quality videos because it chops even though I use the lowest quality on sites like Youtube.
    B. If I use Silverlight it streams nicely up to 2 mbit/s but if i raise it to 3 mbit/s the playback gets choppy both with sound and graphics.
Is it my broadband connection lacking capacity?
    No.
I also have an old stationary AMD Dual Core with Nvidia 8400 GS and the same conncetion: it streams videos in Silverlight with 3 mbit/s flawlessly.
I've tried with IE 11, Chrome and Firefox. I've cleared the cache. I've turned off and on hardware acceleration, but with the same results.
When i search for the latest drivers for my Toshiba I'm getting confused because I get several options both for sound and graphics card. How can I find out which driver versions I should have installed?
Do you have any other solutions?
    /henrik

    > A. When I use Flash Player for streaming videos it gives me choppy playback. It doesn't matter if I use lower quality videos because it chops even though I use the lowest quality on sites like Youtube.
This is mostly related to slow data streaming.
You said its not related to your broadband connection. Well, it must not be an issue with your broadband connection but Im thinking about server load.
    > When i search for the latest drivers for my Toshiba I'm getting confused because I get several options both for sound and graphics card. How can I find out which driver versions I should have installed?
You can find your devices in device manger.
The device manager provides you info about all devices which are built in the notebook.
But honestly dude, Im sure its not a driver problem.
By the way: the notebook specifications say that the notebook supports Intel HD Graphics 3000
The Intel HD GPU is an internal graphic card which does not provide a lot graphic performance. Nevertheless it should be good enough for video streaming. However, you could check the Intel HD media control panel to improve Intel HD GPU performance

  • Why does Flash Player keep instisting I install?

Even after I've installed multiple times -- deleting my "old" version first, and reinstalling.
I've even checked my Win32 folder, and indeed Adobe Flash is installed!
But I keep getting messaged to "install the latest version of Flash" -- or suffer the consequences!
There is now an ugly pop-up that accompanies this advice.
    What is the deal?
In browsing around this Forum, I see multiple people  have had this issue (with no completely satisfactory solution offered. However, one line of advice did suggest checking for the latest/greatest version of Javascript for a proper installation of Flash, so I'll try that.)
It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect that Adobe engineers are sophisticated enough to allo for a specific instructions as to WHAT the problem is, for each download. Seems most Microsoft issues have this sort of advice available, either through the company's knowledge base (usually by error #) or intelligent pop-ups.

    Hi Pat,
Thanks for your ongoing assistance! I'm not sure of the Firefox plugin to which you're referring. Can you please be more specific?
I did try to find the reference to JS, and came up with this (I don't think it's exactly what I found the first time around, but seems close enough. http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html  (the JS reference is second down).
My JS has been re-enabled, as I mentioned; I did that when I updated. (There WAS indeed some older security issue with JS that made its way through browserville. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/373818/whats-with-those-do-not-use-javascript-people. I didn't follow the specifics but there was a while where I had it disabled).
I'm noticing on the helpx link, above, that it also references something about ActiveX. I actually have no idea what ActiveX is or does, but I do know that when I initially switched to Firefox (from IE) it said there was an ActiveX conflict, and disabled some functions of ActiveX. I'm not sure if that was since resolved and the ActiveX re-enabled. I have done several MS auto-updates since then, and suspect it may have been re-enabled automatically.
Do you think ActiveX could have something to do with my problem?
I just remembered an rather intrusive message I keep getting while browsing Facebook with Firefox, so I logged on using IE8 and did NOT get the message. So my issue does seem specific to Firefox. (attaching a pic with the error message)

    yes, yes, and no
YES: The player you download is the activex control and
    Netscape plug-in
that browsers use .. not a separate program. So yes it is
    effectively for
    use in the browser only.
YES: You can fire local SWFs using it by opening them within
    your browser.
It is only for web content.
NO: You do not need a stand-alone flash player (that comes
    with the Flash
product) to view SWF content (local or on the web)
