Does guest network disconnect the wifi?
I have an airport extreme (5th gen) and use an airport express (1st gen) as an extention (bridge) on my home network. I have also enabled the guest network on my router usinng wpa/wpa2 personal.
Every time i upgrade the firmware from 7.6.1 the wifi disconnects from time to time (I now use 7.6.4). A few days ago i disabled the guest network and the 7.6.4 worked like a charm for several days. Yesterday I once again turned the guest network on and now I experience unstable connection on my wifi.
Is this a known issue for all firmware verison later than 7.6.1? Once again I am considering downgrading to be able to run my guest network alongside my ordinary wifi-connection. Or is there another solution to this?

Please understand that the guest network will NOT be extended in this configuration because BOTH AirPort base stations must be simultaneous dual-band models. Your 5th gen Extreme is, but the 1st gen 802.11n Express is not. Also, version 7.6.3+ firmware must be used on all base stations to support guest networking.
This fact, may or may not, be the reason you are having the issue but I'm leaning towards that it does.

I did the factory reset and was able to set up the guest account.
There were 3 problems, all of which I was able to solve.
The first problem was connect to Ethernet, which I selected by WAN port, as shown in the first screen shot. This page used to read just Ethernet and the Bridge Mode.
The second problem was whether to share a range of addresses or share a public IP address. I selected share a public IP address as shown in the first screen shot. I had tried the range of IP addresses in my earlier attempts, the ones that failed. Hopefully this will have no effect.
I have forgotten what the third problem was - only excuse is a few too many flavored drinks. I didn't have any problems solving it though.
What is really weird is I can log on to Guest and use on my iPad (first generation), my wife's iPod Touch (third generation), and my wife's 2011 MacBook Pro. I can't log onto Guest on my 2008 iMac, even after a restart. I get the image below.
Since I don't lug my iMac around a lot and it is connected by Ethernet, while my little make it right brain says figure this out, I am not going to worry about it.

I have try make a restore and open again my cellular data but the problem is still there, after I try to restart my iphone then can use my cellular data, but after few hour ago I still confront the same problem too.
I also tried a total reset. But it didn't work.

Does having a guest network decrease the power of the main network?
I set up a guest network when I set up my Airport Extreme ... not sure why I did this exactly. I have moved into a larger home and now have some issues with the router reaching the entire unit. (It does actually cover it all ... but very weak in the farthest areas from the router.) Does the guest network take power away from the primary network. In other words, if I reset the router without the guest network, would I be better off?
THANKS.When you enable the Guest network, the bandwidth is split between the Main and Guest networks, so performance wise, it would make sense to only use the Guest network feature when you really have "guests".
Now, if you turn the Guest network off...whether you will actually "see" any improvement is open to question. Worth a try.
To turn off the Guest Network....
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Guest Network tab below the row of icons
Remove the check mark next to "Enable Guest Network"
Click Update to save the changes and the AirPort will restart in 25-30 seconds.
If you need more wireless coverage, you might want to look at adding another AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless signal. -
Hi. I'm trying to make my guest network disappear from the list of network choices that appears to everyone in the neighborhood. Even though I followed the great suggestions on how to delete the network, it's still appearing in the list that everyone sees. It has my name and would prefer to get rid of it.

So, for everyone that has had this problem (and I've read many of the same complaints in different places on the Internet), you must go into Airport Utility and check the box stating that you want to reset it to the factory settings. Do not do it with a paper clip and the reset button on the box; I tried that first and it did not work. You must reset it via the Airport Utility. Then just start over and you will have the choice to NOT check the box to Enable Guests. If you want to enable guests, just be sure not to use your name or you're back to the same problem. Apple is so great with everything...wouldn't it have been so easy for them to just put this in the manual somewhere????? Thanks for all your help. Hope this helps others! -
When I am standing near the Apple TV with my iPhone, the iPhone lists a number of nearby WiFi networks, including the one in my home. I have running the Apple TV over ethernet up till now, so unfortunately the unit is out of warranty.
That is a modem/wifi problem. Contact your ISP.

Setting up my brand new MacBook Pro and it will not connect to the wifi network. Nothing wrong with the network which is happily working for my iPhone and iPad! Suggestions accepted for making this connection.
Fixing this is a two step process:
1) System preferences > WiFi/Airport ...
... check [√] Ask to join new networks
"Known networks will be joined automatically.
If no known networks are available, you will
be asked before joining a new network."
2) Remove unwanted networks from the list of "known" networks under
System preferences > WiFi/Airport > (Advanced) > | Airport/WiFi pane ...
Close the window and save changes. If no joy, do a restart to ensure you are playing under the new rules. -

I have an iPhone 4S which is running iOS 7.1.2 . Apparently, the wifi was working before upgrading to ios 7.1.2 (from ios 6.1.3). The wifi option is 'Grayed out" in the Settings app and my Mac address is seen as 'N/A' . There are so many 'fixes' for it two of which are temporary (freezer fix and blow dryer fix) It's a really big inconvenience to not have a wifi connection especially when downloading some big files. For those who have used iOS 8 on their iphone 4S (developers et al) does the new and improved iOS version fix this bug? It's nerve racking because I dont know how to save SHSH blobs meaning I cant downgrade from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 6.1.3 just to get my wifi working. My best bet right now is that iOS 8 will have a fix for this problem. Buying another iPhone is not an option for me right now as my cash is tied up in some projects. Please help.Ok guys,
I don't know if these helps but I'm going to describe what happened to me with these, first I must say I have an iphone 4S which when bought, the wifi was working fine. The Wifi grayed issue started happening right after I updated IOS version 7.1.1 to 7.1.2. At first I noticed the phone was becoming slow as **** and that my phone won't connect to any Wifis, so I switched my wifi off and my phone became fast again. If I happened to turn the wifi on again my iphone would just become slow again.
I went an try to look up the issue solution on internet forums and apple support page but noone seems to have definitive solution. Now I read the hairdryer and freezer method, but I don't trust it since, as apple points out, might lead to hardware damage but it kinda make sense to me that something might be wrong with the wifi chip. I read in another forum that if I just erase or restore (I can't quite remember right now the right name) the network configuration it might solve the problem, but it seems it doesn't work either.
I ran out of options and just waited for IOS 8 to come out and correct the problem, but it didn't. So I came to the conclusion that this is in no way, a hardware problem unless update 7.1.2 just damage hundreds or perhaps thousands of iphone 4S, which I think is rubbish. This is without a question a software issue, might be some software incompatibility with the iphone 4s wifi chip.
So to summarize all of these, what happened to me was:
1) iphone 4S is version 7.1.1 - WiFi works OK
2) Iphone 4S updates to version 7.1.2 - Wifi no longer works
3) Iphone 4S updates to version 8.0 - Wifi still doesn't work
I tried the following to solve the issue:
1) Reboot the device - Fail
2) Restore Network configuration - Fail (grayes out the wifi)
3) Update to IOS 8.0 - Fail
4) Turn on Airplane mode and after 20 seconds off - (ungrayes the wifi but still cannot connect to any wifi)
What I am currently experiencing with IOS 8.0 (it happened also with 7.1.2)
1) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is on - it is slow 70% of the time
2) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is off - Opens up normally
3) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is on - opens awfully slow and no wifi is listed
4) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is off - opens up normally
I hope these helps you apple guys, please fix this issue as my iphone is spending my data plan since I cannot longer use WiFi. -
I know this has been working before, and I really need to connect my iPad via Bluetooth to my iPhone so that I can then use the Wireless via my iPhone. Unfortunately, every time I connect to the iPhone via Bluetooth the WiFi on the iPhone disconnects.
What's up with that?I've used it before. Turn on hotspot on iPhone. Turn on Bluetooth on both devices. Connect to hotspot via Bluetooth. iPad can now use wireless via iPhone.
Now it's stopped working and makes the wireless cut off on the iPhone when the Bluetooth is in use. It makes no sense.
In case you're wondering why I want to do this, there are mac address limitations in place on my network, and only one device is authorised. -
T400 Hangs Surfing or Working on WiFi Network and the Wifi Led stops Blinking !!!
I have a T400 Model (2764CTO) - with 5300 AGN, 2.53 Ghz, 3 Gigs RAM.
I have been facing a wiered problem - my machine hangs - all of a sudden - and at the times - after the machine has hung - the WiFi Led - goes off. I have searched and installed PC Doctor for Lenovo - and it does not capture the Hang Event. The only option I have left is a Hard Re-Boot.

Why does osx yosemite crash the wifi router?
Upgraded to Yosemite, with MBP retina and my wifi router a Netgear CG 3100 D 28 PAUS crashes every time I connect up. I have turned off wifi and then forgot the connection and then reconnected with no joy. It continued to crash the router forcing it to reboot. I reinstalled back to mavericks and there was no problem and the wifi and router were stable and worked well. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem than you. After updating to Yosemite yesterday, my internet connection through a Netgear CG 3100 cable modem stopped, but only with the updated computer, the rest of my devices seems to connect well. After going back to Mavericks, everything work well again.
Is there might be an incompatibility between Yosemite and this cable modem?

The WiFi button is not greyed out or dimmed but the phone won't pick up or connect toany of the networks I have previously been connected to. I have updated to iOS 7, reset the network settings but no luck. Any suggestions?
If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service. -

3. make sure the switch at the top that says "Wi-Fi" is on not off
4. also make sure as to join networks is on at the bottom.
5. if not there click other
6. enter whatever your network name is and it's security type is
