Does having multiple GPUs installed let motion render faster than just one?

if you have 2(or more) GPU's installed and hooked up to monitors, does motion split the work, i.e. render twice as fast? or does it just pick one and use it?
I have 2 cards, but only one monitor, and motion renders using whichever card has a monitor attached. so i wonder if i picked up another monitor and run it from the other card would that speed up my rendering process?

Motion renders (IIRC) on your system's primary GPU, which is the monitor that has the titlebar menus (File, Edit, etc). Adding additional GPUs does not speed things up.

Does having multiple versions of Photoshop installed effect performance in any?

I have a laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, Windows 7, i3 Intel processor, but Photoshop is very slow in responding and often I have to wait three minutes from the time I click the text entry tool until I can type, then each additional step, tool selection, whatever freezes Photoshop for several minutes. This is unacceptable, of course. Other software works normally.
I recently bought a new laptop with an i7 Intel processor, 12 gigs of RAM, and a GeForce graphics processor and the problem is even worse! CS6 locks up so long and so often I usually just load the Task Manager and end the process!
I have lots of fonts but doubt they could cause a problem this severe. Since the new laptop has a high definition screen, I need my font preview size to be at the largest size to see them clearly.
Now, I have 32 and 64 bit versions of CS6, CS5, and Photoshop Elements 10 and 12 installed. I don't use them at the same time, but I'm beginning to wonder whether they might cause some performance problems. (Photoshop installed both versions when I set up this computer in January, both CS5 & CS6. I downloaded CS5 because I was afraid that if CS6 got problematic, I could switch to CS5 and use that instead but the problem is terrible.) If the 64 bit version is giving me too much trouble, I'll switch to the 32 in hopes it will work better. But especially in the new computer, Photoshop never works well.
I bought the new laptop with the extra RAM and heavier duty processor to solve this problem in my old computer, which also has those versions of Photoshop installed. I don't use large files and do light graphic design work for my own use. The most resources intense thing I do is use smart object product mockups I buy online. I'm afraid the problem might be too many fonts but I don't want to get rid of any of them. I've too much invested in them.

I did transfer all my fonts from the Windows 7 computer to the new Windows 8 laptop. I use different external HDs on the computers but I do occasionally connect any of them to the other computer to transfer large sets of files.
No, Photoshop is on Drive C, the main internal drive on each.
Last night I turned off font file previews in the font menu. I got much better performance. Photoshop worked much better, other than when I made a block of text and wanted to click on it and move it. It froze up for about thirty seconds before letting me do that.
If this is a font management problem, should I get font management software? I don't know anything about such software. Do they allow you to load only the fonts you want to use, on the fly? I see one, Fusion 6, which has a CS6 plug-in, leading me to think I might be able to preview and use fonts without the drain on Photoshop's performance.
Do you have any opinions or advice in that regard?

Does having multiple media or removable storage drives, slow down iTunes?

I recently built a gaming PC in the summer and I have since installed iTunes to listen to my music. I transferred all my music from my mac over easily and logged into my itunes successfully. Now, the problem arises when I start iTunes. It takes about 5 seconds for the program to open. Of course this isnt a long time, but my computer opens every other program much faster, including steam, chrome, WMP, etc. I am more curious as to why iTunes is the only program that does this, more than the loadup time.
I have tried running it as an administrator, updated all drivers and itunes, etc. I have a feeling it is because I have multiple drives from Daemon tools, as I did not include a CD/DVD drive in my PC because nearly all of my games come from Steam. However, I have three games that I made ISOs of (via USB CD/DVD drive) that i Have mounted on my PC at all times. Anyways, I notice that iTunes allows me to "eject" disk, because it clearly thinks theres a disk in my PC. Is it possible that iTunes is going through my three drives before opening itself to verify it isnt a CD or DVD that should get played?
My second philopshy is that I have Itunes on drive D, which is a 1tb HDD, while Windows 7 x64 is running on drive C, which is 128gb SSD. Is it because the PC has to switch drives to load iTunes?

Will not load and function. Does having other browsers installed prohibit Firefox from working? i.e. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Opera?

[SOLVED] Having multiple DEs installed at the same time

I'm currently using KDE but I would like to try other DEs like KDEmod and XFCE. How can install and try these DEs without removing KDE?

You don't have to remove any DE/WM to use another. You simply have to start the one that you wish to use. Normally this is done either through the ~/.xinitrc script (by adding the neccesary line for the DE/WM you wish to use and commenting out the rest) or manually by running "xinit /usr/bin/startkde" or something along those lines.
If you wish to use Fluxbox, Openbox or any such WM it is quite possible to run them without a DE (by running, say, openbox-session through your .xinitrc) but you will most likely have to tailor the "desktop" experience on your own. For example Openbox comes with no file manager, no taskbar/tray, it doesn't even support wallpapers on it's own. But you can choose your own utilities for such tasks rather easily.
All of this is thouroghly explained in their respective Arch Wiki pages so just read up and have fun.

How does one install Firefox on Windows 7 for just one user, so separate users can have completely independent Firefox installations?

I'd like to create a new user, and install firefox for that user completely separate in all respects from the existing user's installation, so that there is no interaction at all between the two installations, with separate copies of the program files as well as separate Firefox profiles.

I was asking about how to have multiple Windows user accounts, and how to install Firefox independently for different Windows user accounts.
Firefox does not ask if you want to install it for everyone or just the current user, unlike many programs.
I tried switching to the newly created Windows user account, which was able to use the Firefox installed by the other user account, and installing Firefox, and although there's no indication that it's installing a user specific copy of Firefox, it is. Now the original user account sees it's installation of Firefox and the second user account sees it's installation of Firefox and no longer runs the first users installation of Firefox.
Creating separate Firefox profiles is what I was trying to say I didn't want to do. That's why I mentioned wanting completely separate copies of the program files, not one copy of the program files running two instances simultaneously.

Does FCX render faster than FCP7?

So I'm using FCP7 and I despite how long it takes to render files.
I have a quad 2.66 MP and I know it's not the fastest MP, but it would be nice to use all cores during a render (and for exporting files to self-contained QT files)!!! Of course, for the latter, I just read that I could use Compressor for that and it would use all cores?
So does FCX use all cores to render? I know it does alot in background processing, but can I force it to use all cores if I wanted to step away and have my timeline ready to go? Currently, once I'm done editing, I sometimes need to render a 2 hour SD movie for various reasons and seeing the processes work at 25% or so is frustrating. Adding to the fact that it takes hours to do and I could almost start to cry.

FYI - In a different thread someone reported poor performance with the GT120. You will probably need to upgrade to the 5770 to get good performance from FCPX. If you have a 2008 or later Mac Pro, you also have the 5870 as an option (but not for the 2006 Mac Pro).

Downloading content to use with apple tv on television, can you download multiple shows and then watch them later or just one at a time, watch then download the next one?? If multiple downloads are possible how does one do it?

I just received apple tv as a present this Christmas and the shows take too long to download when I want to watch them. Can I download multiple shows overnight or during day and watch them in the evening?? If so how?

Content can be downloaded to iTunes on a computer and then streamed to the ATV via HomeSharing.

I've been using my MacBookPro since 2010 with no problems at all so far. Just yesterday i figured out that all the apps purchased through the AppStore cannot be updated. I've heard other collegues facing in front of this problem.
At first I with to confirm you that i own just an Apple ID. If i uninstall any of these applications listed in my AppStore then next i'm able to reinstall them downloading the app again from the store (and that would prove that i'm the designated owner for Apple). By the way after the new installation a button, asking to perform an app update, comes up. And again i fall into the issue previoulsy explained. Weird isn't it?
I remember for sure that i have already updated some apps through the AppStore with Lion in the past.

10.6.2 won't install to another volume other than the boot volume

Report a possible bug to Apple.
as is often recommended for updates, I install from another volume other than the one I want to update, and never update the volume I am booted from. The 10.6.2 update (both combo and update only) won't update any other volume other than the one booted from. Previous updates of OS X have always been able to do this. When I try to change installation location to another volume (which contain 10.6.1) it posts an error saying "This update requires 10.6.2 to be installed", which is wrong it two ways. First, how can an upgrade require itself to be installed before it will actually install. Second, there is no reason it shouldn't have been able to update the 10.6.1 volume. I had two 10.6.1 volumes, when booting from either one, it wouldn't update the other. The update will install if it's run on the volume I boot from, but that defeats the purpose of trying to eliminate update issues by installing from another volume.

In order to to update remotely, there seems to be a number of new and interesting restrictions
imposed. I came to these basic conclusions by experimentation:
1. I was unable to install a 10.6.2 update to a remote 10.6.0/10.6.1 volume, while booted from
a 10.6.0/10.6.1 volume. In other words I had to be booted from a 10.6.2 volume to be able to
remotely install (or reinstall) a 10.6.2 update to a remote 10.6.0/1/2 volume.
2. If the volume I was installing to was another internal volume, then I usually (but not
always) had to set the volume I was trying to install to, as the default startup volume in system
preferences before the installer would accept it as a valid volume to update.
3. If the volume I was installing to was a firewire or USB drive, then the #2 restriction did not apply,
but the the #1 restriction still applied (I still had to be booted from a 10.6.2 volume to install
a 10.6.2 update).
4. If, after following the above rules, you are still having trouble, simply rebooting and trying
again will usually work.
So in conclusion:
Remotely updating an external firewire or USB drive was relatively simple and easy, just boot
from an internal 10.6.2 installation and do it.
Remotely updating another internal drive though, can be quite annoying.
Apple, it seems, is heavily promoting the automatic update method.
Lately, it seems, it is getting more and more difficult in many cases, to get a major
OS update to "take" properly. I have been heavily using the "bare bones admin account"
method (outlined in my previous post) for the last several months with good success.
I agree with you that the remote method should be the best, but Apple's install packages
have become increasingly difficult to install using that method, even in 10.5.x.
I will say this though, the updates I installed today using the remote method
are working just fine, even though I had to wrestle with them to get them installed.

At variance with Firefox 3, Firefox 4 does not ask me to save the opened tabs when I quit on having multiple opened tabs. How can I do this in Firefox 4?

In Firefox 3, when I happened to close the program on having multiple opened tabs, Firefox asked me if I wanted to save and remember the opened tabs, so that I could retrieve them at the next Firefox restart. Firefox 4 does not do this anymore. Is it because I have not configured it correctly somehow, or is this normal? How can I recover this function?

One change in Firefox 4 is to by default stop Firefox displaying the warning message, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

My problems right now are in the assignment/removal of security groups on the newly-created folder, and the problems are two-fold. Yes, I am running this script as an Administrator.
First, I am unable to remove the BUILTIN\Users group from the folder when this is an office/location-specific folder. I've tried to remove the group in several different ways, and none are having any effect. Oddly, if I type in the lines directly
into Powershell, they work as expected. I've tried the following methods:

In the first case, the script goes through and has no apparent effect because afterwards, I do a get-acl and the BUILTIN\Users group is still there, although when looking through the GUI, inheritance appears to have been broken from the parent folder.
In the second case, I get the following error message:

This seems strange that the local server is unable to translate the SID of a BUILTIN account. I've also tried explicitly putting in the BUILTIN\Users SID in place of the variable in the New-Object line, but that gives me the same error. I've

My second problem is when I try to apply the newly-created security groups, I also will get the "Some or all identity references could not be translated." I thought I had found a workaround to the problem by adding the -PassThru option to
the New-ADGroup commands, because it would output the SID of the group after creation, however a few lines later, the server is unable to translate the account to apply the security groups to the folder.
My first Powershell script has been working well up to this point and now I seem to have hit a showstopper. Any help is appreciated.

I was hoping to stay with strictly Powershell, but unless I can find a Powershell solution, I may resort to ICACLS.
As for the problems with my groups not being translatable right after creating them, I think I have solved this problem by using the -Server parameter on all my New-ADGroup commands and this example code seems to have gotten around the translation problem,
again utilizing the -Server parameter on the Get-ADGroup command:

Going this route seems to ensure that the Domain Controller I'm creating my groups on is the same one that I'm querying for the group's SID to use in the FileSystemAccessRule. It's been working fairly consistently.
Still having issues with the translation of the BUILTIN\Users group, though.
