Does having stolen iphone blacklisted prevent  thieves access personal data on iphone.

Hi
my iphone was lost/stolen when on holiday  in France. I have had it blacklisted(almost immediately)  but unsure how much protection this gives me in terms of access theives would have to personal data from my phone i.e. access to emails, notes etc. Also, how much protection (if any) would my 4 digit PIN have given me again in terms of someone getting into my phone and accessing my personal data?

If they do not have the PIN, they won't be able to get into the phone to my knowledge
If they really want to get into it, it will take them about 30 seconds, even without the PIN.
The data on the phone, unless in extremely capable hands, should be safe from capture. And having the phone blacklisted, they won't be able to use it either
Don't need to be "extremely capable" at all. Just need an app on their computer.
But as suggested, most will simply erase it and sell the iPhone.

Unit was blocked by code and Find My Phone enebled but appears offline..

There is something wrong really. I could not locate my second iPhone2 (replacement for the stolen one) with cover closed (and pin locked). Impossible to locate it at all. I had to turn the location services off and on again and since this it started to work. But even so, it does not update the location - it just show the last located place (like one hour ago) until is pin unlocked. This is useless. By BB bold 9900 is possible to find on map even when is in holster and pinlocked. All it need is GSM signal. It show circle where it may be and when is on GPS signal, it update the ring diametre automatically - all without need to unlock the phone with pin code.
Please try to check it, if it does not work when the iPad is pinlocked, then it does not have sense.

WE know Disk Warrior is more reliable, hence more useful, and should be in any disk mechanics toolchest.
For the record, I don't know anything of the kind. I have yet to see evidence that Disk Warrior is useful at all.
What I do know is that you seem to take every opportunity you get to promote it in these forums. Do you work for Alsoft?
Let me be a little more explicit. My opinion is that Disk Warrior is a waste of money if one has backups. If a journaled HFS directory is so badly corrupted that it can't be repaired by Disk Utility, then the volume should be reformatted and restored from backup, which has the same effect as running DW, but is probably faster and doesn't cost $99.

  • Can't access personal data on OEM partition

My laptop comes with a SSD and a normal HDD. One fine day I switch on my computer and it says 'Insert bootable device' I thought that my SSD had crashed and since it assumed it had the OS I wasn't able to boot into Windows. So I removed the normal HDD put it into an enclosure to retreive my personal data. The HDD (750 GB) has three partitions, one is a Lenovo partition (29.30 GB) with applications and drivers and there are two OEM partitions (14.75 GB and 655 GB). I presume all my data is in the 655 GB OEM partition and I can't seem to access it. How can I access the data on OEM partition and recover my personal files ? Any advice/suggestion would be welcome.

    Hi
I think that the os might be on the hdd(655gb) partition and as it has been marked as a oem partition, bios is not able to access the boot files on the c drive. Since data comes first, use ptedit32.exe to change the partition type of 655gb partition to 07 from 12 and then assign it c you might have to reboot and then you could copy the data from the hdd and keeping the partition unhidden, try to boot from it in laptop.

  • Does having a passcode lock prevent a normal sync/backup?

My wife has an iPhone 3GS, which we upgraded to iOS5 and then iOS 5.0.1.  This morning, when I was doing the upgrade to iOS 5.0.1, iTunes said it could not continue with the backup until the passcode was entered.  I entered the passcode, and everything proceeded normally, but since I don't have the passcode lock feature enabled on my phone, I had no idea this was happening.
So here's the question...does an enabled passcode lock impede a normal sync/backup?  There does not seem to be a way to grant iTunes unrestricted access when the phone is locked.  Is she supposed to disable the passcode lock every time she plugs the phone in at night to allow a normal sync over WiFi or when she syncs directly to the computer?

As long as you sync on the same computer, you do not have to enter the passcode. You had to enter it because you updated the software, normal syncing on the same computer does not require such.

  • Does my stolen iphone mean all my emails are seen and my laptop is vulnerable too

my iphone has been stolen. will all my emails be seen and does this make my laptop vulnerable as well?

Did you have a passcode lock on your phone? If you did (and it wasn't a trivial one like 0000 or 1234) then your information is safe. However, if you did not have a passcode you need to change every password you ever used from the phone immediately.
Did you enable Find my iPhone before it was stolen? If you did go to https://icloud.com/find and put the phone in Lost mode.

  • After backing up through time machine on external hard drive, how do you access that data?

I backed up my MacBook to an external hard drive through Time Machine. After it was all done and I reconnected the external hard drive to make sure that I could access everything that was backed up, I couldn't get into the data on the external hard drive because it said that it was backed up through Time Machine.
What does this mean? How to I access the data that is on my external hard drive?

    There are 2 options.
    1) (The Suggested way) With the TM external drive connected Open The Time Machine App in Applications and you can browse what has been backed up.
    2) Open Finder and select the drive name on the left then the Backups.backupsdb folder and in there is all your files from the backups you have made listed under your Machine Name and in that folder under the dates/times they were created

  • Does moving my service to a new device prevent me from tracing my stolen iPhone?

My iPhone was recently stolen. It was powered down at the time. I am using the "Find iPhone" app and have the phone set to "Lost Mode Pending". If I move my phone service to a replacement iPhone would that prevent the Find my iPhone app from locating the stolen phone even if someone powers it up?

The tracing is based on the stolen iPhone having Find My Phone turned on, linked to iCloud, and the iPhone must be powered up and connected to the internet.  Anyone of those is missing and it cannot be found.
The tracing is not dependent on the phone service provider unless you cannot access your iCloud account.

  • The passcode lock code at the iPhone 4 was broken into by a program from Internet. ( By connecting the phone to a PC that program tells the passcode) Does someone knows how to prevent unauthorized opening of iPhone? How to secure the passcode ?

My daughter has an iPhone 4 secured with passcode lock. A visitor in their house took her unattended iPhone, connected to the PC, from a certain program got her pascode and did open her phone to go through her private messages. Does someone knows how to prevent this? How to secure the Phone from unauthorized opening?
Thanks in advance for all suggestions!!!

    Hi igmusla,
It seems someone has stolen your daughters phone there is an application called FindMyiPhone if she had location services on and the thief hasn't disabled it you can possibly track the phone down. Sadly you cannot stop the thief from gaining access to her phone and personal information. Please report your phone stolen to your local police station and call Apple aswell, they can possibly put a lock on your phone aswell as put it into a carrier block which prevents the thief from calling anyone or putting a new sim card in it.

  • I reported to Austin Police Department about my unlocked iphone was stolen last week. I'm ****** off that Serial number of my stolen iphone is on another Apple ID.   IMEI still is not added into blacklist.  How can I contact to Apple Inc??

I don't understand why Austin Police are not doing to detain theft when I showed an location with valid address according Find my iPhone on icloud.com.  They said that it might be wrong location but few blocks were correct location. I stopped at Apple Retail Store to get another unlocked iphone. I explained an employee whether they would add both IMEI and serial number into blacklist to make useless for anyone. They said they have nothing to doing.
I'm shocked today that IMEI number is still not added into blacklist. Serialnumber of my stolen iphone is already on another Apple ID, after restoring it.
They let me down because unlocked iphone is EXPENSIVE, it costs $800 in Canada.
How can I deal with Apple Inc to add both serial number and IMEI into blacklist UNTIL i get my stolen iphone back

What blacklist? There is no universal blacklist in the US. They're working on it, but it does not exist as of this writing.
Apple can't do anything about it. They are not a law enforcement agency.

  • Access data on stolen iPhone

    Hey Guys
The worst thing happend to me about 3 days ago. My iPhone 3GS (running iOS 5 -- I think) got stolen. My major concern is that will someone be able to access my personal data like photos, apps, cached email etc? I did passcode protect it.
Do you know of some way that they could "hack" into my iPhone?
Also, if I can recall correctly, there was some option that I disabled that said something on the lines of "wipe device if passcode entered incorrectly ten times". Do you think that when I upgraded iOS that option reverted back to been enabled?
    Thanks
    -Bruce Blacklaws
    PS: I'm so sad :-(

    Anything can be hacked.
I can't imagine why most thieves would take the time ( or have the ability) to do this.
The wipe will not be enabled unless you enabled it.
Change your passwords and report to the police and your carrier.

  • How can someone use a stolen iphone? does erasing the phone (which I feel like I should do) make it easier for the thief to use the iphone?  If I don't erase it, it doesn't seem like anyone should be able to use the phone because of my password.

how can someone use a stolen iphone? does erasing the phone (which I feel like I should do) make it easier for the thief to use the iphone?  If I don't erase it, it doesn't seem like anyone should be able to use the phone because of my password. Also, is it possible to retrieve anything that has been sent to the phone (i.e. text messages) since it was stolen through icloud? The "find my iphone" app says the device is offline but it rings when I call my number -- any idea how that would be the case? Thanks!!

You have a password, so good move on your part.  Whether you erase it or the thief does, they still get to use the iPhone as theirs.  Which is more important (pick one), protecting your data or punishing the thief?
Ringing occurs at the carrier.  Chances are you're going to voicemail after only two or three rings.  If you have an iCloud backup also a good move.  Re-read my question in the first paragraph.

  • Continuous with the problem, the headphone does not work after having my iphone ios 8.0.2 updated

the headset does not work after having my iphone ios 8.0.2 updated to me is very annoying to have to be answering speakerphone is not private and can not go with the hands-free all the time

I had the same issue until I updated my apps through iTunes. I had over 100 updates, but none of them showed on my iPod. After they updated everything started syncing like it is supposed. Go to the apps library and check for updates. After everything syncs leave your iPhone/ipod/ipad connected if the spinning arrows at the top is still spinning. It means that things are still being added. If you go to settings > general > about, you will see it loading songs, videos, photos, etc. If you back out of "about" and then go back to it you will see the numbers for each one change.

  • Any way to track stolen iPhone 4 without having previously installed an app

Hi, I've had my iPhone 4 stolen.
I've not got a mobile me subscription, (but I'd buy one if it meant I could track the phone?) and haven't installed any third party tracking app either.
Is there any way it could be tracked? It seems silly that my network can send a shutdown signal, to essentially "brick" the phone unless it's recovered, but can't have the device report it's location...
    Thanks.

I remember reading somewhere that they recommend that you don't immediately report it to AT&T so you can avoid having your phone turn into a brick. If the thief is not smart and uses the phone, you may be able to track the numbers the individual is calling and then report those to the police as evidence.
If the person turns off the phone and pulls the sim card out, it could be harder to trace even with tracking software installed.
For those interested in tracking software, here are some apps that might help.
