Does "highest rating" mean anything?

I begin with two apologies. First, I have not carried out a full search of the archives for discussions of my problem, largely because I'm not sure what search terms are most appropriate. Second, I'm not an iTunes "power user"; I doubt that I use even half of its feature set. However, I have noticed something in the performance of the latest iTunes that bothers me.
I have some 3,000 songs in my playlist. I set the playlist to the settings in the attached screenshot. Then I cleared out the record of the number of plays of all the songs. Then I ran iTunes for ten days. Then I sorted the list by rating and counted the total number of playings of songs in each ratings category. I divided this total number of playings by the number of songs in each rating category. This yielded the percentage of time that songs in each rating category were selected by iTunes. Lo and behold, each rating category got about 20% of the total. In other words, iTunes was NOT selecting songs based on their ratings; it was playing low-rated songs just as frequently as it was playing high-rated songs.
There are two explanations for this result:
1. Pilot error: I failed to make the appropriate settings to tell iTunes to play songs in frequency concomitant with their ratings.
2. Programmer error: iTunes does not select songs by their rating.
Can anybody shed light on this problem?

When it is blue, that means it was sent as an imessage to an iphone imessage user. When it is green it is a sms text which is to a none iphone user or an iphone user that doesnt have imessage turned on.

Surely you can understand why people do not want to pay £200 for nothing?
I have a similar proplem where I beleive BT have no empathy what so ever for their customers. I leave my current address in one weeks time but my future home will not be vacated for 1-2 months. Both old and new houses will need phonelines for their current occupants to I need to stop the phone to this house. The only way BT will do this is to end my contract early -cost £60 and then I start a new one with them when I move. I do not want to move away from BT I want to keep all my current packages/bundles but BT can't do it. I've been with BT for 50 odd years (yes I am old) but does that matter to them? The future home currently has Sky so if BT can not help me who do you think I will be signing up with?

  • Does a "subroutine priority" mean anything in an FPGA?

Since a programmed FPGA is a collection of hardware logic strung together with potentially a great deal of it in parallel, does setting the execution priority properties of FPGA subVIs to "subroutine" really do anything? If you read the description of what a subroutine priority does, it says it devotes all the resources of an execution thread to the subroutine code. This to me implies time sharing of resources. But I don't think time-shared execution threads exist in an FPGA, or do they? Do any of the other possible execution priority levels mean anything to FPGA code?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Execution priorities have no effect in FPGA. Every subVI that does not require arbitration (ie, is either reentrant or used only once) is inlined into the main VI at compile time. As far as I know, execution priority has no effect on arbitration for those subVIs that do require it.

  • This iPad cannot be used as the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started.  Does this mean anything to anyone? How can I sync my iPad again?

"This iPad cannot be used as the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started".  Does this mean anything to anyone? How can I sync my iPad again? Many thanks.

In Windows 7, go to Control Panel, Adminisstrative Tools, Computer management, Services. In the servies box will be Apple Mobile Device (mine is 4th from top) click on this  and on the left side you can start service or right click the service and start from the drop down menu. I set mine to "delayed start" no issues since then.

What does this message mean Charging is not supported with this device?

You've gotten 2 good answers already, but there's a key assumption in both that you got the message when connecting the iPhone to some other device. If this is the case you can get an adapter in the Apple online store that will allow charging from older devices.
If, however, this message appears when you are not connected to anything the problem is dirt or moisture in the dock connector at the bottom of the phone. Clean it with a dry toothbrush or air blast.

    I'm stumped.

Hi there I've just installed CS4 Pro on Windows 7 64bit and got exactly the same result as you. Did you manage to find anything out, because the thing that bothered me was the limited functionality (what ever that is). Is it just a case of Windows 7 having a newer version of ActiveX already installed?

  • In iMessage do the different colours of message mean anything?

In iMessage do the different colours of message mean anything?

iMessages can be sent between Apple devices like iPhone, iPod, iPad, Macs. They are free of charge if connected to Wi-Fi and use your data plan if Wi-Fi is not available.
If the other person does not have an Apple device, those messages are sent as text, depending on your contract you might have a certain number of free messages to send or your carrier will not charge you for sending.
If an iMessage can't be sent, your iPhone will try to send it as "normal" text message, this setting can be changed in Settings/Messages on your phone.
Messages lets you exchange text messages with other SMS and MMS devices using your cellular connection, and with other iOS devices using iMessage.
iMessage is an Apple service that lets you send unlimited messages over Wi-Fi (or cellular connections) to others using iOS 5 or later, or OS X Mountain Lion or later. With iMessage, you can see when other people are typing, and let them know when you’ve read their messages. iMessages are displayed on all of your iOS devices logged in to the same account, so you can start a conversation on one of your devices and continue it on another device. For security, iMessages are encrypted before they’re sent.

  • Do the changes in the spinning icon in your tab mean anything when connecting? It is grey and spinning counterclockwise then it changes to green and spins clockwise.

When connecting to a site the tab has a spinning icon. It is grey and it spins counter-clockwise. Then it changes color to green and spins clockwise. Does this mean anything (possibly transferring data or data done). If so, what triggers the change. This is not a problem I am just interested in this behavior.

Counter clockwise means that Firefox is trying to connect to the server and is waiting for the server to respond to that request.

  • What does error -10810 mean ?

Hi ...   What does error -10810 mean ?  I could find anything on Google for this.

It's a process table error, usually indicating a buggy third-party app. See the explanation here.
A tricky point about searching for Mac errors in Google: always remove the minus sign.  If you search for (say) os X error -10810, Google will interpret the minus sign as a request to exclude all pages that contain the string 10810, which is exactly what you don't want.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues, obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy
