Contacts are part of iCloud, but they are not included in the backup, they are just synced between devices. It is very similar to icloud email and calendar events and means, if you delete a connact on your iPhone, the it will be also deleted on your other devices

When I back up or sync my iPad to my computer, does it back up all of my GarageBand tracks as well? I have about 200+ tracks right now still need some final editing. I would hate to lose them all I usually sync my iPad with my computer I just don't know if it is backing theses tracks up too, or just the app itself. Please advise, thanks.

If you backup the device to your computer that should include all the private data and settings for each app. You can separately export individual GarageBand for iOS projects but at present there is no way to reimport such projects to your iPad with iTunes.

Does iCloud back up photos, and can I view iPhone pictures on my iPad without syncing camera rolls?

I know this question may have been asked but please bear with me:
I have a iPhone 4S ( 16 GB ) and a iPad Air ( 32 GB ). Most of my photos are taken on my iPhone and I can view these photos on my iPad via the Photo Stream (which I know will only display photos for 30 days). I wanted to delete some photos off my iPhone to make room, but how can I still view these photos on the iPad without syncing my iPhones's camera roll to the iPad. Shouldn't iCloud be keeping these photos (and I heard that photos, music and maybe documents don't take up iCloud space, just other non-iTunes stuff count towards iCloud storage space but I don't know if that's right).
I just wants to know how iCloud works because what is the point of downloading other iOS devices' camera rolls onto my iPad and then risk my iPad runningout. Of space. Wouldn't I just run into the same problem? I thought iCloud would backup photos so if they were to be deleted off one iOS device, it can still be accessed on another iOS device (something like a Photo Stream but I ninnies it only lasts 30 days).

Hey! I am moving from icloud backup to itunes backup and i have not checked photos, contacts(see 1st image below) to sync to itunes. And on my phone in settings under icloud photos, contacts, notes and other stuff are selected(see 2nd image below). Does this mean i am backing up apps(and app data), music, settings to itunes but photos are still backed up to icloud. If not what should i do to back up my photos?

I have a question regarding iCloud backup for an iOS device. I currently have iCloud signed in with my Apple ID on my iPad. I have many apps that I downloaded, but I also have many apps downloaded from a friend's ID. Even though some apps are from a different ID than what iCloud is signed into, does it still back up the friend's apps?
This leads me to another question. My ID mentioned above is actually my family's ID. I recently created my own personal Apple ID, but have not downloaded anything with it as of yet. I do not personally own any Apple devices. The Mac and iPad are both my family's and will stay signed in with their ID. What is the best way to move forward if I have my own ID, but with shared Apple devices? I will soon get an iPhone 4S that I can have to myself with my Apple ID signed in to iCloud, but there are many apps from the family's account that I would like on my iPhone. So, will this be backed up to iCloud, or just the stuff I download with my own ID?

HT4859 how long does icloud back up take?

I am backing up 5.9 GB from my iPhone to iCloud. It seems to be taking forever. Any suggestions as to how I can make this a faster process?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps.

i have an iphone 4 and i have the mOst recent software
i went to look at my messgaes and on one of the conversations it said the name of the person and just a blank underneath it... no words like the other ones
i clicked on it and there were no messages on it anymore
there were a lot of messeges on the conversation and im really upset theyre all gone
i have icloud and i was wondering if i could recover them from icloud
im not sure if i accidentally clicked the clear all button or it deleted because it was taking up too much space

Yes providing you haven't backed up since you lost or deleted the messages, you should be able to restore them.

Does iCloud back up all the photos on my Mac?

I have a lot of pictures on my Mac, and I don't want to include them in photo stream. They are all in the "Pictures" folder, but I have only imported a few of them into iPhoto. WIll all my pictures be included or just those in iPhoto? I think it's just the imported ones but I want to be sure before I set up the storage & backup in iCloud. Thanks!

Thanks - this is what I need to know!! I only want to use iCloud for the pictures on my camera. I'm already using Time Machine on an external HD of the pictures on my Mac, so those are taken care of as well.

If you have jailbroken your iPhone then yes the hacking software would be backed up.
If you haven't jailbroken your iPhone then you haven't been hacked.

Where does iCloud source all it's contacts from?

I have a really random thing happening on my iCloud (obviously effecting all my apple devices, iPhone 4S, Macbook Pro):
I have recently had a whole lot of old contacts turn up in my iCloud contacts. Now there weird thing is:
     - these contacts are from a cell phone I would've had about 5 years ago
     - it wasn't a smart phone, was something like a basic nokia or sony ericsson or something
     - the phone was on a different number, and a different sim card, and possibly a different network
     - the contacts weren't stored on the sim card that is currently in my iPhone
     - I didn't do any importing of any kind, they just showed up in my contacts
     - The names of the contacts are showing exactly how I put them in my old phone, ie, the name + some way to remember them (like Gary the guitar guy), so can't have been synced from anything like Facebook.
My question is, where does iCloud gather it's contact info from?? Over the years I have had hotmail, gmail, facebook, myspace, bebo, etc, does it link with them somehow?
I receive Microsoft Exchange mail and Gmail on my iPhone, but none of these old contacts show up in the contacts of these two accounts?
So confusing, and kinda creepy! Anyone know what is going on??

Ohhhhh whoops just realised what I have done haha
I copied a whole lot of crap off an old hard drive onto my MacBook Pro .. included in the crap was an old backup of a vCard database I must've done ages ago .. MacBook found it and decided to import it into my contacts automatically!

my icloud backs up my contacts and then seconds later they are deleted. there was a second device on the icloud that is now separated and that is where the original deletion was performed. using the backup from before this device interfered allows the contacts to reappear for only a few seconds. then they are gone again. help

Does icloud backup app folders?

So i have a lot of apps for many reasons. But i was wondering, since i have at least 15 folders filled with apps, does icloud back all this data up? so when i restore my apps and icloud backup, everything was as before? or do i have to re-arrange all apps yet once again to get them how they previuosly were...

The apps listed under Documents & Data are apps that are storing their data in your iCloud account (called "Documents in the Cloud"). These apps are syncing their data with iCloud so that you can share the data across multiple devices sharing the same iCloud account, such as saving a Pages document on your iPhone, then editing the same document on your iPad. This is separate from your backup. You won't see any evidence that the app data is being backed up, either on your phone or on icloud.com, beyond the fact that you can see that your turned the app to On under Backup Options. If it's turned on there, the app data will be included in your next iCloud backup, and will be restored to your phone should you ever need to restore your iCloud backup.

Ok it depends if your videos was paid
For from the iTunes store then yes it will be up in the cloud and you can access it anytime .
If the video was downloaded from another website and uploaded to your device ten iCloud will not back it up, but then you could do it by purchasing extra specs from I cloud . If u don't fully understand what am saying email me at [email protected] I hope I was helpful

If you are backing up your phone to iCloud the backup will include your messages along with other data and settings. You won't be able to see or access these messages separately; they can only be restored to your phone along with the other data and settings stored in the backup. Also, the backup does count against your free 5 GB of iCloud space.
