Does iCloud back up photos, and can I view iPhone pictures on my iPad without syncing camera rolls?

I know this question may have been asked but please bear with me:
I have a iPhone 4S ( 16 GB ) and a iPad Air ( 32 GB ). Most of my photos are taken on my iPhone and I can view these photos on my iPad via the Photo Stream (which I know will only display photos for 30 days). I wanted to delete some photos off my iPhone to make room, but how can I still view these photos on the iPad without syncing my iPhones's camera roll to the iPad. Shouldn't iCloud be keeping these photos (and I heard that photos, music and maybe documents don't take up iCloud space, just other non-iTunes stuff count towards iCloud storage space but I don't know if that's right).
I just wants to know how iCloud works because what is the point of downloading other iOS devices' camera rolls onto my iPad and then risk my iPad runningout. Of space. Wouldn't I just run into the same problem? I thought iCloud would backup photos so if they were to be deleted off one iOS device, it can still be accessed on another iOS device (something like a Photo Stream but I ninnies it only lasts 30 days).

Hey! I am moving from icloud backup to itunes backup and i have not checked photos, contacts(see 1st image below) to sync to itunes. And on my phone in settings under icloud photos, contacts, notes and other stuff are selected(see 2nd image below). Does this mean i am backing up apps(and app data), music, settings to itunes but photos are still backed up to icloud. If not what should i do to back up my photos?
Could you please help me with this i am a little confused. Thanks!

Do I need to turn on iCloud Backup to,store data?  Can I turn it off again so it is not on automatic and will resume syncing with iTunes?

You don't have to turn on iCloud backup to sync data with iCloud, but you do if you want to back up to iCloud.  (You sync data with iCloud by going to Settings>iCloud and turning the data you want to sync with your iCloud account to On, and choosing Merge to upload your data.)
Also, backing up to iCloud does not prevent you from sycing with iTunes.  All it does is cause your iPad to be automatically backed up to iCloud instead of automatically backing up to your computer each time you sync.  And even if you are automatically backing up to iCloud, you can always manually back up to your computer using iTunes at any time by connecting your iPad to your computer, clicking on the name of your iPad in iTunes, going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sycn settings, and clicking on Back Up Now.
You can, of course change back to automatically backing up to your computer using iTunes at any time as well.

  • How to get my photos and music from my iphone to my hp laptop without having windowed on my laptop

i just got anew hp laptop.  it does not have windows.  I want to be able to link my iphone with my laptop but don't know how.  want to be able to get my photos and music from my phone to my laptop and be able to load music on to my ipod. Is this possible to do

I think there is still no APP or a way to copy music or videos from Iphone to PC. Pictures can be copied when you access the storage of the iphone from PC. Not sure if you are using other laptop before with itunes where you organize everything about your iphone. If you have, copy the Itunes folder from My Music folder and paste it on the new laptop you have, (you need to install Itunes first on your new laptop before doing this)

  • What does iCloud back up exactly (and does it have to be with a certain ID)?

    Hi,
I have a question regarding iCloud backup for an iOS device.  I currently have iCloud signed in with my Apple ID on my iPad.  I have many apps that I downloaded, but I also have many apps downloaded from a friend's ID.  Even though some apps are from a different ID than what iCloud is signed into, does it still back up the friend's apps?
This leads me to another question.  My ID mentioned above is actually my family's ID.  I recently created my own personal Apple ID, but have not downloaded anything with it as of yet.  I do not personally own any Apple devices.  The Mac and iPad are both my family's and will stay signed in with their ID.  What is the best way to move forward if I have my own ID, but with shared Apple devices?  I will soon get an iPhone 4S that I can have to myself with my Apple ID signed in to iCloud, but there are many apps from the family's account that I would like on my iPhone.  So, will this be backed up to iCloud, or just the stuff I download with my own ID?
    Thanks.

    Hey,
I thought I'd have bad news for you, but looks like Apple is OK with a family having one Apple ID for purchases and several IDs for iCloud.  Check out these articles:

  • Can't Update Recently Changed Apple/iCloud ID on iOS7 and Can't Reset iPhone

I changed my AppleID and password shortly after updating to iOS7.  I tried to change my ID on the phone, but it seems to have locked in the old ID for certain functions.  I cannot change my iPhone iCloud ID by deleting the account or reset the phone as it requires the old ID and password.  I changed my Apple ID because my email address was old and no longer exists so I can't just revert back to the old one as I won't be able to perform the email verification. Please help!

After multiple hours (since 23:00 last night and some sleep) I found a solution.  I did install the "Find my Friends" app.  This did not fix the issue directly, but I am not sure it was required for the following steps to progress properly.
    My solution:
Changed my alternate Apple ID email address to a second, active, non-Apple domain email.Verified the email address.
Changed my primary Apple ID email address to the old inactive email account.Could not verify this via email (obiviously).
Went to iCloud settings in the iPhone and deleted iCloud settings on iPhoneThe ID now matches and the current password worked
Changed Apple ID to the previous active email addressVerified this address
Logged in iCloud on iPhone with the proper Apple ID
    Appears to work properly now.

"If you exceed your iCloud storage limit, photos and videos won't upload to iCloud, and your library will no longer stay up to date across your devices."  Really?  Can't we support the existing "last 1k photos will be available in the cloud" model?  If we don't do this, won't this kill auto-sync of new photos from iOS devices to our libraries on our Macs (if the Mac's Photos app has auto syncing with the cloud turned on) once we go over our 5gb limit?  I have 350GB of photos in my Mac Photos library - I am not going to pay $20/month for 1tb iCloud storage.  Please advise, Apple.  Thank you.

I agree and am baffled by this also.  At first I was really excite about this new feature.  Mostly because I would be able to seamlessly sync videos along with my PhotoStream.  I just assumed there would be some systematic way to handle large libraries.  Like removing older files as the current PhotoStream does.  However, it appears that this new feature will simply 'shut down' when you reach your storage limit.  This just makes no sense to me.  I would have to double check, but I have all my photos and videos in iPhoto and stored on a 3 TB external hard drive and I think the full library is over 1 TB.  So, even if I was willing to pay $20 a month for photo syncing (which I am not) I couldn't do it because my library is too large.  Again I am just baffled why Apple cannot blend this new service with the existing PhotoSteam model.  My favorite aspect of PhotoSteam is that is uploads all my iPad and iPhone Photos to my Mac for permanent storage and it seems this is lost in the new version.

I want to be able to access my photos that are stored on iCloud
    – I see mail and contacts but not my pictures?
I have been backing up for a long
    time -  Where are they?

You can't view them on iCloud.com.  And photos (and other data) stored in your device backup can't be viewed, other than by restoring the backup to your device.
If you want to view your photos on the web, for the time being you will have to add them to a shared stream (album) with the Public Website option enabled.  This will give you a private url to view them from a browser.

  • My iPhone 6 plus is a 16G, and my photos and camera is taking all my storage. Does icloud keep my photos in tack, if I delete them off my phone?

I have an Iphone6 plus and my photos are taking all my storage. I can't update or download anything, what to do?

Actually iCloud doesn't keep your photos until you back up your iPhone to iCloud: tap Settings > iCloud > Backup > enable Backup and tap Back Up Now. However, I have to tell you that iCloud backup file only contains your photos on your iPhone Camera Roll and can't be viewed unless you restore your iPhone with the backup file. For photos in Photo Library, you need to find a third-party tool to copy them to your computer. In a word, in my opinion, you'd better import photos to your computer: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...

  • I can't download photos and videos from my iphone

    Hi,
I have iPhone 4 with iOS 5. Can't download photos and videos from my iphone because my PC doesn't see it. Also my camera roll doesn't show right thumbnails and when i open a photo it shows it in low resolution. Only after i start editing it shows the photo itself in original resolution. iTunes recognises my phone but freezes on back up. When i updated my phone to ios 5 everything was wiped clear and i lost all of data that was in it. Please help me, i do not want to lose my data again.
I plugged it in to another pc (win7) but no files in DCIM.

appears to be one of the bugs associated with ios 5 that need to be worked out.  (i had a problem where I had music on my phone, the phone didn't recognize the music but the computer could find it)
While I don't know how to fix the immediate problem, I have a workaround that will get you past this if you are willing...
My suggestion is to turn on icloud and photostream on your iphone, and download and install the icloud control panel on your pc found here
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html
take a "picture" (quickly press the home button and lock button at the same time) of each picture on your device so they show up in your camera roll and will sync to your photostream cloud.  This will in turn cause your pc to download the photos from your photostream cloud via the icloud control panel.  Your photos will be on your computer, and you will never have to sync your phone to get photos off your iphone again.

  • How can I transfer my photos and music from my iphone 4 to my new iphone6

How can I transfer my photos and music from my IPhone 4 to my IPhone 6 ?

if the music was downloaded via iTunes you will be able to access it from iCloud when you set up the new device. other music that was synced to the iPhone would need to be synced to the new iPhone from the computer that you used to sync the iPhone 4.
photos can be transferred via the following method.
plug iPhone 4 into iTunes on computer. select back up to computer.
Plug in the iPhone 6 and press restore. when setting up the iPhone press restore from iTunes. plug into computer and a complete copy of the iPhone 4 will be put onto the iPhone 6. except for the music...(you will have to download your apps again from App Store but you can find them all under the purchased tab on App Store. you won't have to pay for the apps again)
please note this will delete the current memory on iPhone 6
