Does iCloud backup iCal events created in Snow Leopard?

I have completed Lion upgrade and can't get my iphone to sync with older iCal events.

Since iCloud only works with 10.7.2 and after, I would say no.

    does icloud backup iworks documents

Hello, thanks for using Apple Support Communities,
Yes, iCloud does store iWork Documents in the cloud to be pushed to all of your devices; this is an optional feature. Back to My Mac also allows for you to take a backup of your app, and all documents associated with them, in case your iPad is lost, stolen, or broken.
As for storing all of your documents and always pushing them to your devices, you may choose which apps apply as well.

  • HT4859 does iCloud backup also backup my iTunes music?

does iCloud backup also backup my iTunes from my iPhone?

Music purchased from the iTunes store can be transferred to you iTunes library by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes, authorizing your computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Music from other sources (such as your CDs) should already be in your iTunes library.
Once your music is all in your iTunes library, you simply sync it to your new phone.  To transfer your other data and settings to your new phone, see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109.

  • Unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Snow Leopard using Lion

Anyone else unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Leopard and Snow Leopard with Lion?  I know that they made changes with the release of FileVault 2 on Lion and Snow Leopard cannot use Lion encrypted disks but I thought it was backwards compatible where Lion should still be able to work with Snow Leopard created images (it was in the pre-release versions of Lion).
When attempting to mount an encrypted disk image created with Snow Leopard on Lion the normal password prompt appears but then just reappears every time the password is entered and does not unlock and mount the image.  I'm positive the correct password is being entered and it works just fine when done on a machine running Snow Leopard.

Not in cases when the computer successfully boots to one OS but produces three beeps when an attempt is made to boot it to another. If it really was a RAM problem that serious, the computer wouldn't get as far as checking the OS version, and it has no problems booting Lion. In the event of a minor RAM problem, it wouldn't produce three beeps like that at all.

  • How do I create a Snow Leopard partition?

I just upgraded to Lion, and unfortunately, can't access my Quicken 2007.  (Didn't realize Quicken didn't work in Lion until after I downloaded it.  Clearly, I live in a barrel.)  I just downloaded iBank and need to export my Quicken data to it.  From what I understand, I need to create a Snow Leopard partition where I can export my info.
My question is, how do I do this? Although I know a lot about a lot of things, this isn't one of my areas of expertise, so please be gentle and walk me through it.
    Thanks SO very much!

To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Boot From The Snow Leopard Installer Disc and Install:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
Install Snow Leopard on the newly created partition.

  • HT3805 How do I restore Vault created under Snow leopard to new IMac with Maverick 10.9.2

Purchased a new IMac with OS 10.9.2
trying to restore an Aperture Vault (created by snow leopard) I get error message that Vault could not be restored because it was created by older OS.
Is there a fix for this or do I kiss my 4k pics goodbye - I hope this isn't the case.

Purchased a new IMac with OS 10.9.2
trying to restore an Aperture Vault (created by snow leopard) I get error message that Vault could not be restored because it was created by older OS.
What exactly is the error message? The operating system version should not matter, when restoring from a vault. What however will matter, are the version of Aperture and the file system of the disk with the vault.  Is your vault on an external drive? If yes, how is the drive formatted?  If the vault is not on a drive formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled), move it to a disk with the correct formatting and try again.
And what version of Aperture created your vault? With SnowLeopard you probably used an older Aperture version. Then your vault needs to be upgraded to a newer Aperture version, before you can restore from it. Do you still have a version of Aperture installed, that is the same version as your vault? Was it an Aperture 3 version?
If your vault is an Aperture 3 vault, try to open it as an Aperture library instead of restoring it.
    - a quick and dirty emergency measure: Try to open your vault directly on the drive where it is now without restoring it. Make a backup copy of your vault, before you try it.
Change the filename extension of your vault to ".aplibrary", this will turn the vault into an Aperture library and try to open it directly in Aperture by double clicking it.
Aperture will now try to open the vault as the current Aperture library and upgrade it.
“Aperture Vault” was created by an older version of Aperture, and cannot be restored by this version.

  • Problems with iCal Server 2 and Snow Leopard Clients

I am currently running iCal Server 2 on Snow Leopard Server, with approximately 6 client computers connected to a single shared calendar account.  I have digest authentication enabled, and am thus using Kerberos (but not SSH), as well as 3 iPhones.
Upon initial connection, I can get all the clients - computers and phones - to properly pull down all the calendar data, and match one another.  However, several of the computers are having trouble updating properly when new events are added.  After some troubleshooting, it seems that the computers running Snow Leopard are not properly updating with events that are entered from other computers, either Snow Leopard or Leopard.  They can, however, post events to the server themselves without any errors.  Interestingly, the Leopard computers can push and pull updated events just fine, and will update with new events whether they originated from a Snow Leopard or a Leopard client.
We had some recurring login/authentication issues a while back, which seemed to resolve when I disabled digest authentication; I'm wondering if perhaps that has something to do with the problems now.  We're mostly using BusyCal as client software, with the iPhones obviously using iCalendar.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had similar problems, with Leopard clients working well and Snow Leopard clients having issues.  Thanks!

    Noby_me,
A lot of folk are having major issues with many Adobe programs and Snow Leopard. You are not alone. For many, rolling-back to Leopard has been the cure. From "word on the street," it appears that Apple is aware of these issues and are working on an OS update. I have no schedule, but that word was out about a month ago, so let's hope that the update is soon in coming.
You might want to do a Search on this, the Encore and the PS fora for "Snow Leopard." There are plenty articles.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • AppleScript-RSync Incremental Backup-iCal Event Faiure

I have run into a strange error in using iCal to control "rsync" script to back up, incrementally overnight, files from the system partition to the other local partition, on OSX 10.4.10.
I picked up the following tips from MacDevCenter and modified the AppleScript a bit=>
    do shell script
    "rsync -aE /Users/test /Volumes/BackUp/test 2>>/Users/test/Library/logs/rsync.txt || echo -n"
Then I saved the above as a "script" and went to iCal to create an event to choose the script to run at 20:00 every night.
I got a strange error message: "Due to an error, iCal is unable to execute the script."
Am I missing something? Unnecessary blank space? Scripting Execution Privilege Error? Baffled!
    Help Please! Thanks!
    Max NYC

The first problem looks like the space in the destination name '... /test 2'.
Since the shell treats spaces as argument delimiters, rsync sees your command as having four arguments: the switches '-aE', the source '/Users/test', the destination '/Volumes/BackUp/test' and some unknown parameter '2'.
Your solution is to either escape or quote the filenames:
    do shell script "rsync -aE '/Users/test' '/Volumes/BackUp/test 2' >> '/Users/test/Library/logs/rsync.txt'
Note that I've quoted all the paths, including the ones that don't have spaces. It's not strictly necessary, but it's a good practice especially if you don't know in advance which paths you'll be using (having filenames with no spaces is not something you can guarantee some other user will know about).
You can also use AppleScript's quoted form of a string to automatically manage the quoting for you, which makes it easier to use variables, like:
set sourceDir to (choose folder with prompt "Please select a folder to backup")
    set destDir to "/Volumes/BackUp/"
set logFile to (path to Library folder from user domain) as text & "logs:rsync.txt"
do shell script "rsync -aE " & quoted form of POSIX path of sourceDir & " " & quoted form of destDir & " >> " & quoted form of POSIX path of logFile
The above example shows one way of dealing with three different ways to identify files - a selection by the user, a UNIX path and a dynamically-created path built using the 'path to' command to find the current user's Library. Note the user of 'POSIX path' to convert Mac-style paths to something the shell can deal with.
The second form looks a lot more complex than your original, but it will work under far more circumstances (including odd file names (there may be other characters in filenames that cause confusion), is interactive (if you need it to be), and dynamic (will work for any user, even if you don't know that user's name in advance.

  • Does iCloud Backup Calendar & Contacts?

Suppose you don't have a Mac or a PC, and the only device you have is an iPad. And suppose you're using iCloud for Mail, but not for Contacts and Calendar. If you set your iPad to Backup to iCloud (instead of to iTunes on a computer), does it backup all of your Contacts and Calendar data, or is that not included?

Looking at that "iCloud: Backup and restore overview" document it seems to me that the Contacts and Calendar data aren't backed up. It says:
"Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)".
But that's just the settings, not the actual data. If you've filled the Contacts app on your iPad with 1000 entries and your only backup is via iCloud Backup in iOS, I personally don't think iCloud is storing a backup of those 1000 contacts, it's just storing your settings/preferences.

  • Does icloud backup app folders?

So i have a lot of apps for many reasons. But i was wondering, since i have at least 15 folders filled with apps, does icloud back all this data up? so when i restore my apps and icloud backup, everything was as before? or do i have to re-arrange all apps yet once again to get them how they previuosly were...

The apps listed under Documents & Data are apps that are storing their data in your iCloud account (called "Documents in the Cloud").  These apps are syncing their data with iCloud so that you can share the data across multiple devices sharing the same iCloud account, such as saving a Pages document on your iPhone, then editing the same document on your iPad.  This is separate from your backup.  You won't see any evidence that the app data is being backed up, either on your phone or on icloud.com, beyond the fact that you can see that your turned the app to On under Backup Options.  If it's turned on there, the app data will be included in your next iCloud backup, and will be restored to your phone should you ever need to restore your iCloud backup.

  • HT4847 what does icloud backup do?

What exactly does icloud do and why do I need it?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can use iCloud backup, to back up your mobile device. You can use the backup file to restore your device should you encounter problems with it. In many ways it does exactly the same as backing up to iTunes, but doesn't require you to own a computer.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Problem creating iCal Events from Mail in Leopard

The new function that allows the user to create iCal events from Mail messages is quite impressive and very useful. Unfortunately the data detectors seem to have trouble with certain commonplace date formats. While the detector recognises the date, it cannot activate an event in iCal. For instance the data detector will pick up the dates in these formats and create iCal events:
    30 October 2007
    30 Oct 07
    30/10/07
    but not in this format:
    30-Oct-07
In the latter case, the data detector recognises it is a date, produces the drop menu, but will not carry through and create an event to iCal. It's annoying in that many companies use the latter format in their communications. Any workaround?

There is another problem I have found.
I have my computer set in international settings formats to show the date in the "English format"
January 4th 2007 is 4/1, however an entry in mail 4/1 is put into iCal on the first of April!
I found this out after looking for a meeting I knew I had put in for next week.
beware, can this bug be fixed?

  • HT4859 Does iCloud backup messages

Does iCloud back messages automatically inside the 5 gb

If you are backing up your phone to iCloud the backup will include your messages along with other data and settings.  You won't be able to see or access these messages separately; they can only be restored to your phone along with the other data and settings stored in the backup.  Also, the backup does count against your free 5 GB of iCloud space.
