Does iMac Flat Panel have built in Dual Voltage Support?

I have iMac Flat Panel 17" machine (PowerPC G4 1GHz) I am living in USA currently I am travelling to India where the power rating is 220V 50Hz instead of 110 V. I know all laptops have dual voltage support.
Does iMac Flat Panel have built in Dual voltage support or Do I need to buy converter of some sort?
If I need to buy Power Converter what Power Rating it should be?

Hi Vijay,
Good news:
Yes, you can plug the iMac G4 anywhere in the world, no problem.

  • Here's a puzzler, how to improve reception on iMac Flat Panel, w/built-in

Here's a puzzler, how to improve reception on iMac Flat Panel, w/built-in airport card. I have done alot of research into cantennas and the like, including parabolic dishes etc. I am trying to connect to my friends open network a few houses away but get sporadic signal most of the time. Just for fun i took a piece of aluminum foil and fashioned a curved dish and saw the signal strength spike to more than double sometimes. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this. Since i am on the all in one iMac (the half sphere base style) Flat Panel i don't have the option of putting my antenna in a can, dish etc.
This is not a critical issue, i am obviously on line and getting along, but would still enjoy any suggestions for improving the performance on this airport card.
    Thanx in advance, Anykey

Hi! That's a puzzler only due to there being no external port for adding an
antenna outside of the one built-in the iMac!
Another option may involve some purchase; as you may be able to extend
your own wireless network by using an Apple airport base station as a
bridge to (perhaps) see a greater increase in signal strength; it could act
as a repeater for both receiving and sending the IP signal. Then, you could
administer the base station by ethernet cable.
There are a few on-machine antenna options for some models of Apple
computer at QuickerTek online; they clip outside of PowerBooks, etc and
are said to not intrude or require wires into them in order to work externally.
I am not sure, but suspect the Quicker antennas may use USB power.
And that brings into the question the use of external USB wi-fi devices
and altering them into a directional antenna; most of these have the
wi-fi card and antenna built into the same little module. Then you may
have to make your own dish to focus the beam after all!
I hear a small dish network satellite dish could be used to capture or
send signals, but do not know if you'd need a powered device to use it.
That would have to be for "line-of-sight" use, of course.
Some links I'd posted somewhere in Discussions were to a few inventive
antenna and base DIY sites; I no longer have the urls saved...!
Best of luck in this matter!

  • HT1752 iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect

Hi,iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect

    No problems.
    Let's double-check your iMac's Internet Sharing configuration:
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > \[Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > MacBook
    Enable Software Firewall (iMac)
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o Block all incoming connections (enabled)
    Enable Internet Sharing (iMac)
    System Preferences > Sharing
o Select "Internet Sharing" from the options in the left column
o Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
o To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    AirPort Options... (iMac)
    o Network Name: <anything you want>
    o Channel: Automatic
o Enable encryption <do NOT enable at this time>
    o Click OK
    o Select "Internet Sharing" again
o Click "Start" to start Internet Sharing
    o Click Start
Please verify these settings, and try accessing the Internet from the MacBook again. For this exercise, I suggest co-locating the MacBook with the iMac.

    Dear Moderators,
The Forum (ID=870) "Expanding your iMac (Flat Panel)" is coming up with 'Error' in both Safari and Firefox right now (so I don't think it's me).
This is also causing errors on the iMac Flat Panel Category page where no posts are being listed.

  • Can I use my iMac (Flat Panel) as a monitor for my laptops?

Hi. I've got a MacBook, MacBook Pro, and a iMac Flat Panel. I'd like to use the Flat Panel as monitor for the two laptops (not simultaneously, of course.) Is this possible? If so, what's the best way to set it up?

    Download and set up ScreenRecycler.

  • Does the ipad mini have built in wifi

I'm hoping to buy an ipad mini soon. But i want to use it for home and on the go. And i was wondering does the ipad mini have built in wifi? And if it does how do i turn it on. Is it like the iPhone and it gives you an option to turn on personal hotspot or what? Thanks

All iPad's have wifi capability. You do the wifi setup by using the Settings app.
You can pay extra for an iPad that has 3/4G cellular. Your iPad uses wifi when available. If not available it switches to cellular. You have to pay extra for the iPad's data plan with your chosen carrier.
If you have an iPhone, you can use it as a hotspot instead of using cellular.

  • Please HELP, imac flat panel email sooo slow, locks up

Hi There, I have read soo many discussions but still can't real find the help i need. I have a flat panel 17 inch imac running 10.2.8. It has been fine for the last 4 years, but just in the past month or so it has been very annoying. It seems to be mostly when i am using mail or safari. the other apps don't seem that slow. I can have every app closed except mail and it will give me the beach ball and lock up.
I have gotten an external hd and put all my music on that. I have also tried to run disk utility and macjanitor, but it's still painful to try to be on mail/online.
Is there a way to run iphoto from the mac hd but have the library read from the external like in itunes?
Any other suggestions would be awesome!!
    Please.Thanks Bobby

    hi there,
Thanks for the help guys. I don't think space is an issue. I have Capacity: 74.52gb, Available: 52.55 and used: 21.97. I tried Onyx and that seemed to help a lot. I didn't know what I was doing, but I just hit delete and execute where i could! My mail still acts really weird. I can use it for a while sometimes and it's fine and sometimes you just delete a msg or go to a different msg and it says "writing changes to disk." It will get stuck like that for about 2-5minutes. If you just don't touch anything it will resolve, but it's really annoying.
I don't check a hotmail account, but I do have a pop account setup through my website domain. I try to keep my messages low on both computers. I've had it like that for a while and it's just starting to do the "writing changes to disk" problem.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I think Onyx will get me through!

  • Sleep causes vertical lines on G4 iMac (Flat Panel)

    Hi.
I've installed Leopard on my Flat Panel iMac and everything seems fine - except that I cannot use the sleep function.
As soon as I enter sleep mode (timed or manual), the screen is filled with vertical lines before sleeping.
When I wake it up, even more lines appear, filling the screen completely. Though, keyboard commands etc. still work fine. Only the screen output is affected. The only solution I found is a hard reset and disabling sleep mode...
Does anyone have the same problem - and even better - found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Phillip

I've had exactly the same issue with a 17" Flat Panel iMac, 800Mhz. I would be interested if anyone comes up with a solution.

  • Upgrading iMac Flat Panel 1.25

Forgive me if I am asking something that has already been asked. I have the "Lamp" version of the iMac G4, 1.25 GHZ. I have a few problems.
Last year I moved my itunes library to an external HD (Mercury Elite 800gb). It was a striped drive and it soon failed, to the point where it would only show up for a few minutes before disappearing. It has been a tedious task to manually move my iTunes back to another external drive before I can send it back to OWC.
I am not ready to buy a new Mac, so I want to make this one work for as long as possible. I am not sure I want to risk using the external drive (which is now jam packed- I'd rather us it as a backup!) I want to load Leopard on my iMac and I want to upgrade to an external drive of at least 160 gb (but would like more, maybe a budget of $100. I saw a WD Caviar for about that price.
Is this a bad idea? I am also worried about the install. Can I put the old drive in an external enclosure and then install Leopard on the new drive (I was thinking about partitioning as well). I am not very technical as far as doing the removal of the old drive myself, especially with this flat panel mac, but I have someone who can do this for me. What type of drive do I need to get? Is there a size limit?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Not sure about the Western Digital Caviar drives; that may be fine, but I'd try
a Hitachi or maybe Seagate, etc. Some companies offer a PATA drive, and
if you get the correct specs in that, with a decent buffer and spin rate, it
could offer a good performance boost in read/write and virtual memory access.
Also, real memory upgrades; chip RAM is a good investment. In some cases,
you won't hardly see the performance difference unless you look into the
Activity Monitor utility to see how much of the CPU and Memory is in use.
A larger faster drive with a 16MB buffer, and plenty of free space for the
system and virtual memory functions to work, would almost be like a new Mac.
The iMac G4 1.25 computer can use up to 2GB of RAM; be sure to choose the
highest quality for the most inside RAM slot, since you don't want it to fail once
you have gotten it put together again properly; and I mean careful use of thermo
paste in the correct places, and a careful and clean job. While in there, the clock
battery is a prime candidate for removal and replacement, with a recent dated one.

  • Mac Mini to G4 iMac Flat Panel display ???

Just scanned some pages back in this forum and couldn't see this as a topic-so I'll ask.
I was wondering, if I had a 17" Flat Panel imac (even the 800Ghz version, or the 1Ghz or the !.25Ghz - or event the 20" [yummmmy] ) could I drive the mac mini via the iMacG4's highly versatile flat panel display ???
[ideally I'd love to be able to re-engineer the Flat Panel's guts with smaller but faster CPU etc - and as machine innards get smaller maybe this will be possible - because the screen tilt and swivel is so versatile; eh!)]
    gregg

Hmm - why did myinnermostthoughts sudenly become a hyperlink - or is it a hyperjump into the final frontier of cyber-computing???
Anyway, but I had hoped to just plug a keyboard into 2005 'Twiggy" , use a VGA adaptor/er between the two machines, and use the 1.42 Ghz speed of the 'Twiggy' to display stuff (CS2 etc) on the Flat Panel's display (oxymoronic word usage here - I suppose). The Flat Panels do have an vga port - so why cant the cable go from the mac mini to the VGA port of the iMac ??? Are you saying ti's almost impossible - or are you refering to re-engineering???

  • Question regarding the factory SDRAM for 15" iMac Flat Panel G4 700MHz

Thank you for reading my post. =)
I upgraded my iMac to the max 1GB SDRAM a few years ago. When I did this, the Apple tech removed my factory installed SDRAM chip from the SODIM? slot and installed the SDRAM I bought into the two (inside and outside) slots.
I still have the factory SDRAM chip lying around, but I do not know nor can I seem to find any 411 regarding the factory SDRAM that was shipped with my computer. The factory chip I have doesn't say how much SDRAM it is, and now I can't remember what my computer shipped with. Does anybody have the same computer as me, and if so, do you know how much SDRAM was shipped with this specific iMac?
Another thing.. I am thinking about getting a used eMac or an iMac CRT for my mom. Does anybody know if this factory SDRAM chip will be compatable with certain eMacs and iMac CRT's? The chip says it's made by Samsung Korea, and it's PC133U-333-542. Does PC 133 SDRAM only belong in the 'outside' SODIM slot, or can PC 133 also go into the 'inside' slot.
I hope i'm making sense to somebody; I don't know if these are considered stupid questions, but I really need to know, so I'm asking. =)
Any help and advise is greatly appreciated! *april
iMac 15" Flat Pannel 700 MHz PowerPC G4 1GB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   i love my little bubble computer

Hi Chris CB, Yes, I was just told about MacTracker the other day... It's amazing, is'nt it! I know that information took a LOT of time to compile. I downloaded MacTracker the other day and am still amazed!! I wonder why Apple never did this themselves; them being the ultimate source and all.
Niel, thank you for coming back again.. I saw from reading your post and subsiquently from the links mrtotes provided that there are two user accessable RAM slots inside the iMac CRT. Very good news.. i'll definitely keep in mind that the slot loaders are easier than the tray loaders when making my decision as well. Thanks again!

Cor blimey, mrtotes.. (not exactly sure what that means, but one of my British customers said that to me once and I love the way it sounds) =P Thank you so much for those two direct links. I think that eMac movie is on speed or something though.. it moves waaay faster than my mind can think! I'll definitely come back and reference those links when I make my final decision/purchase. PS Your direct links always make life so much easier.

  • IMac Flat Panel Gray Screen when I Turn On

My iMac won't load. When I turn it on there is the "chime" then nothing but a gray screen. I tried reseting the PMU, but still nothing. The machine froze while doing a backup and my hubby forced the machine off. When I tried to turn on the next day, this is what I got. Have tried starting it with everything unplugged... I am in the USVI and there are no Apple people here so I really need some HELP!

Since the problem seems to have started with the forced shutdown, try repairing the hard drive following the steps in Trav's Tips
You can also review this Apple KB Article
Try repairing the disk first and see if that does the trick.
Good luck (although since you're in the VI's your luck seems to be pretty good!)

  • IMac flat panel G3, 10.1.5

I am looking for some assistance. I've never upgraded my IMac and now I'm having problems with it. I tried to do a software update however, all that shows up are upgrades for IPod which are totally useless to me. There is no Hide or Unhide button for me to pick to see if I accidentally hid the proper updates.
Any suggestions on how to upgrade? Should I uninstall OSX and start over? how many versions will I need to upgrade?

    Welcome to  Discussions licketysplit1!
    Some additional information.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.7 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.7 Combo Update.
    Jaguar System Requirements
-Power Mac G3 or G4, iMac, eMac, PowerBook G3 or G4, or iBook computer
    -128MB of physical RAM
-Supports all video cards shipped by Apple on Mac OS X-compatible systems. Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video cards: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti; Any AGP-based ATI RADEON card. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required.
-QuickTime Pro functionality requires a QuickTime 6 Pro key. The QuickTime 5 Pro key will not work after this software is installed.
-DVD Player requires a DVD-ROM equipped Macintosh with built-in FireWire.
    Panther System Requirements
    Tiger System Requirements
Make sure, before upgrading, to check to see if your Mac model needs a Firmware Update

  • Failure to install 10.2 on iMac flat panel

Via Target mode (the imac's own cd drive is not working) I have erased the HD on the iMAc using Disk Util on a universal 10.2 install cd and then installed 10.2. The imac will now not start up past flashing question mark folder. Inspecting the HD via Target mode and running 10.2 disk util repair and verify from the remote mac shows no problems with the HD. The imac will boot into open firmware but not into single user mode. PRAM, NVRAM etc all reset and also power manager.
Am I looking at a mobo problem? I have no other universal system disks to use. The imac was originally running Tiger, but I cannot find those disks. There should not be a problem running 10.2 on a virgin HD should there? All traces of Tiger should have been erased by disk util
    Thx
    Nick
    N

Is that the case even though I have wiped the disk using 10.2 disk utility pre-install?
Yes. An iMac with a CPU speed of 1GHz or faster or the last 800MHz model can't start up into Mac OS X 10.2 from the retail package.
The installer allowed me to install onto the disk although I did so from a G3 powerbook (white).
If the Installer is run through FireWire Target mode, it thinks it's installing onto an external hard drive and can't check the computer's specifications.

  • IMac flat panel installation problem

I have been trying to upgrade from 10.2 to 10.4 but the machine fails to install off of the DVD. Additionally, we have had problems installing anything on this computer. I repaired all permissions and verified the disk. The installation process proceeds up to the step where you are asked to choose a destination disk. After a few seconds, a message pops up saying that installation has failed. Any ideas?
    Thanks

There may be some way to use the booted disk utility from the early OSX
installer disc #1 located beneath Installer in the menubar, to see if that can
help fix anything that may be stopping the existing system from accessing
the newer installer disc (later.) Do not use a later Disk Utility to fix a newer
one or an older one to attempt a fix on a newer system. They don't like it.
Some other user upgrade issues were noted in Mac user forums back when
Panther and then Tiger came on the scene; and some users could not get
their older Jaguar or some Panther systems to upgrade to Panther/Tiger
and of them, some were successful (archiving whole drive clone to external
Firewire hard disk drive as backup, first) in using Disk Utility from the new
OSX installer disc#1 to zero data and reformat the computer's internal HDD
and then it was able to accept the new OSX.
[And, still others, found they had RAM chips that were not
compatible with the newer OSX systems; and had to upgrade
more than just the OSX. Some also put in larger hard drives.]
Other users, were able to simply zap the PRAM and do a few other basic
things, and their machines were able to upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.3.x
and a few without much issue, to 10.4.x. [I had some issues with an older
PowerMac tower trying to go from 10.2.8 to 10.3.2 and the retail installers
never could work. I finally decided on a different later Macintosh and then
when a neighbor's friend said he was looking for a PowerMac, I sold it...]
