Does iMessage cost money if it's with someone out of the country?

I want to imessage my friend from the UK but would it cost extra money since it's out of the US?

iMessage uses data, just like email. The only cost you would incur is the cost of data usage. If you have a data plan, then it counts against your data usage. However, if the user in the UK is not connected to data at the time, then it could revert to an SMS, which will in turn charge you for an international SMS. You need to make sure both of you have an active data connection at the time of the send to make sure that you are not going to be charged in any other manner. You can also remove the checkmart by Send As SMS so that if the iMessage fails, it will not revert to an SMS message.

I am getting lots of messages that say that my browser/operating system is not supported.  I am a Version 10.6.8.  Do I have to upgrade?  Does this cost money?

    1. No. You can switch to another browser, such as Firefox, instead.
    2. If your computer supports Yosemite, no. If it doesn’t but supports Lion, yes. If it doesn’t support either of them, it isn’t possible to upgrade.

If you are reinstalling Apps or music onto the same computer, no.   You must use the same details as was used for the original download.   See this link.   Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    dj,
That is good to know. Have you  ever turned off wi-fi and used your cellular data instead? I'd like to know if your carrier charges you for the iMessage? I will be travelling with a +44 number on my sim card (Teletial based in the Channel Islands I believe) and some places like South Korea & Japan charge about  $30USD/MB. ( or 19 GBP/MB). The devil is in the detail.
My carrier, 3, does not charge extra for cellular data.   I pay £34 per month for a cellular plan with unlimited data.  So, no, I do not get charged for sending iMessages whether I am on cellular data or wifi.  If I were to try to send an iMessage to an international number that did not belong to an Apple device, it would send as SMS and I am sure that standard international rates would apply.  Apple iMessage is a different protocol for users with an AppleID.  There is no way for the carrier to distinguish it from any other data traffic.

  • When using imessage with another iphone user, is it still free to message them if they're out of the country?

my friend is out of the country, and he wants use imessage, but i dont know if it will give me charges to my account and apple doesnt mention if it's only unlimited messaging within the country

iMessage uses data, just like an email, if I can use that analogy. It will not count as SMS, however I have read somewhere where some people have reported getting SMS charges when using iMessage. I believe it is impossible though, unless the message does not go through and you have send as SMS checked in settings if the iMessage fails.

  • How can I view the iMessages that were sent to me while I was out of the country?

How can I view the iMessages that were sent to me while I was out of the country? They never loaded, but people have told me that they sent me many iMessages while I was gone.
I figured they would load when I turned on my cellular data, but only my text messages loaded. I would like to see the iMessages I missed because I believe some of them were fairly important.
I would really appreciate somebody's help!

As far as I understand with this, iMessage works the same as regular txts. The iMessages are held on the messaging server for 72hrs if it's not picked up by then it expires. So those that you didn't get you will never get. Sorry.

  • When I connect with someone on FaceTime, the camera shows me sideways and no matter how I turn it, it is the same. How can I fix this?

When I connect with someone on FaceTime, the camera shows me sideways. I have tried turning it in all directions but no good. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi nana450,
If you are having unusual rotation issues in FaceTime with your camera image, you may want to try a restart/reset of your iPad, as outlined in the following article:

my phone has gone into recovery mode on its own.  says to connect to itunes.  i have restored it 10 times and it does nothing please help me i am out of the country and desparate

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. If the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode, then Restore the Firmware. If not recognized, then hold both Home and Power Buttons until the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.

  • My account expired while I was out of the country for 5 weeks for my nephew's funeral. How come?Where's my money?

I refilled my card on 3/17/14. Left out of the country the same day because my nephew passed away. I just returned yesterday and now when I turn my ph on it tells me I have no credit. I did not use my phone while I was away. I looked at the balance details and it tells me on 4/19/14 that the account status change and it zeroed my account out. The same date on a different line it had Account expired and $26.47 was removed and my balance now zero. Where did my money go? Help!!!

You will not get your money back.
The money in a pre-paid account has an expiration date according to how much was loaded at the time.
When do payments I've made to my prepaid account expire?
Once applied to your account, payments expire as follows:
    Payment Amount
    Expires In
    $15 – $29.99
    30 days
    $30 – $74.99
    90 days
    $75 – $99.99
    180 days
    $100 or more
    365 days
If you make a payment to your account before your expiration date, any unused balance will carry over and expire on your new expiration date.
