Does imovie no longer support formatting to iDVD

Apparently the newest version of iMOVIE does not let you export to iDVD. Anyone know how to format iMOVIE videos for DVDs?

You can't create chapter markers but you can still burn a dvd if you have iDVD.  See for example:

  • Which codecs does iMovie for iPad support?

I have videos from a Canon Powershot camera which are in 1280 × 720, H.264, Linear PCM. I can import these videos to iMovie on iPad but when I open iMovie it does not show the files.
I have also tried to import the videos via iTunes Movie Sync. I can play the video on the iPad but can not import it to a new project in iMovie.
Which codecs does iMovie for iPad support? If I can play the movie on iPad, it should be possible to edit it?
Where do I find the codecs supported by iMovie for iPad?

iMovie was made to edit video shot on iOS devices; there is no support list, it was made to edit iOS video.
This allows iMovie to be stable (or should make it stable as the case may be).
That said, you are importing the video wrong, and may be in luck with your video.
The File sharing pane is just for importing iMovieiOS projects.
iMovie cannot edit video in the Movies app.
iMovie edits video that can be seen in the photos app.
So you need to import it via the photos tab, as you would photos.
The other option is using the camera connect kit.
If you can see the video in the Photos app, it is highly likely that you can edit it.
But be warned that using non-iOS sourced video can make iMovie very buggy and flakey.
Avid for iPad is made to edit more formats and might be a better choice if you have trouble.

  • Does iTunes no longer support older iPods?

Does anyone know if Apple has discontinued support for older ipods (in my case, a 2nd gen classic, 20gb, released in 2002).  ITunes will no longer recognize this ipod since iTunes ver10.6.  I thought maybe iTunes 11 would fix it, but it has not.  This is on a mac mini, 2009 edition.  I then tried it on a PC laptop which still has iTunes 10.5, and the ipod was recognized.
I don't use the old ipod much, but I would still like to change the music on it from time to time.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

Huh. I just downloaded iTunes 11 a couple days ago, and my iPod (a 2nd generation iPod nano, 4 GB) still works. I think it should work.
What I did, is I had my iPod connected back when I converted from like, iTunes 10.5 to iTunes 10.6, I think maybe the iTunes can then be recognized? I know when I had iTunes 9.(something...), and I tried connecting to a computer with 10.9 (I think. well, one of those), it wouldn't work. So maybe, you have to go step by step? Although my iPod wasn't connected when I was upgrading to iTunes 11, so that's just a theory.
Try going on the PC laptop and then keeping your iPod connected when upgrading to iTunes 10.6, see if that works

  • Does QT no longer support embedded XML (text3GTrack) captions?

I used to be able to open XML files in QT, copy them and add them as captions in QT Pro as an embedded text track. This no longer seems to work. When I try to open the XML file it says that it is not a movie file. These same files used to work, so I know it's not the files themselves. The files are "text3GTrack" type="application/x-quicktime-tx3g". Did QT stop supporting XML caption files?

There was a problem with the language code. I had "en" instead of "eng" after messing with the language code trying to get another language to work. I found the list of language codes here:
    http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php
They need to be 3 character as opposed to 2.

  • Does quicktime no longer support skins?

tried creating a skinned movie -- quicktime doesn't recognize the files. when did this stop? I can open old skinned movie experiments just fine. anybody know what happened?

thanks for your interest, QTKirk -- but opening them isn't my problem --
when i create the xml/plaintext file and save it as a ".mov" to incorporate all the various elements, QuickTime won't read the saved file like it used to; says it's not a valid movie file and cannot be opened, whereas before it would open this great, odd-shaped movie however you planned it to look and operate, and then let you save it as a self-contained movie which was, then, all good-to-go -- anyone could open it.
    now, no more....
BTW, I'm running OS 10.5.8  Leopard and QuickTime Pro 7.6.9 on a Dual 2 PowerMac G5 with 4GB RAM and 3 TB HDD space

  • 5th generation ipod games no longer supported???

I have a 60 GB 5th generation iPod video. I had a hard drive crash and lost all of the games that I had downloaded from the itunes store. Now, iTunes has restored all of my purchased items, but my 5th generation games don't seem to have appeared during the download. And, when I go to the app store, I can't even seem to find the games available for download anymore. Does iTunes no longer support games for the 5th generation iPod????

Hover the mouse over Apps, click the triangle which appears, and choose iPod Click Wheel games.

  • My iMovie no longer works "PowerPC applications no longer supported"

My iMovie (v. 9.09) no longer works on my MacBook pro with osx 10.7.5, when I try to open the app I get the message "PowerPC applications no longer supported". I tried upgrading, but the mac store says I need osx 10.9 to upgrade. help!

You might try converting the .mp3 files to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz Stereo just to see if it's a file format problem. AIFF requires iMovie to do much less work to play it back or do any adjustments on it. Easiest way to convert would be to download Audacity and just Export to AIFF I think.

  • Why are my RAW format files no longer supported?

Using a Mac OS X 10.5.8 with versions of Adobe Photoshop CS5, Adobe Bridge CS5 and Camera Raw Plug-in.
Shot .CR2 raw format photos on my Canon EOS 450D (Same as Rebel XSi)
Have always been able to open them successfully in Camera Raw and Photoshop. Now says that the files and/or my camera model/make is not supported by the Camera Raw Plug-in nor by my Photoshop.
Tried converting to DNG first with Adobe DNG Converter 7.1 and even that says that the source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files.
Previous raw files taken with the same camera on the same computer with the same (or even earlier) versions of all these programs have always worked. I can still open those successfully too. However just these new ones I cannot. Nothing has changed about my camera in that time...
What can I do and why is it that these files are no longer supported?

ACR 6.7 and ACR 7.1 RC can open XSi CR2 files at least on Windows 7.  I just checked.
However, on Windows, at least, the DNGC 7.1 RC has a quirk in that when you want to convert a folder of CR2s to DNGs, you have to click the Select button when the folder is highlighted in the file selection dialog and the folder listed in the location area of the file selection dialog.   You cannot click INTO the folder and then click Select, which sounds like what you are doing.  If you do click into the folder and click Select it’ll say there are no compatible files that exist.   I think previous versions of the DNGC would recover properly if you clicked into the folder before clicking Select.
Since your files cannot be opened in ACR, either, then perhaps they are corrupted.  You might post a download link to one of them in a message here so others can have a look.  If you don’t have a large file hosting service, then set up a free account on www.dropbox.com or www.yousendit.com or similar, upload your file, there, then post the public download link, here, in a reply.

  • IDVD NO LONGER SUPPORTED

I purchased an iMac in September 2011 and just went to burn an iMovie project, but there is no iDVD or other burning software on my iMac!!!
I called Apple Support and all they could say was that they no longer support iDVD (this is October 28th 2011) In an effort to explain why the software was missing the representative told me that Apple has chosen to no longer include or support DVD authoring on the Apple going forward.  I realize that there are lots of other sharing vehicles today but to say that DVDs are outdated or soon to be (which is what I was told) is a little too forward-looking.  If they intend to drive business to the cloud instead, then at least do it in a coordinated manner with a release that accomodates all parts of the package, eg iLife.  Currently iMovie and others have utilities that include iDVD.  To suddenly cut it out is a case of bad decision making and poor management of the IT process and user communication as well.  I'm just sayin'.   Shame on you, Apple.
For those that are about to purchase a new mac, beware. You'll have no DVD authoring software.

I realize that there are lots of other sharing vehicles today but to say that DVDs are outdated or soon to be (which is what I was told) is a little too forward-looking.
The DVD is the most popular method for distributing movies today.  Millions of DVDs are sold every month.
iDVD should be included.  However in the meantime, I know some have contacted Apple and gotten a free copy of iDVD.  If that doesn't work I recommend purchasing iMovie 11 on disk in order to get iDVD.

Hi, I just tried to open Word and this message appeared - 'You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.' I just recently loaded OS X Lion does this mean my software for MS Office is now out of date?  Do I have to purchase a new package? Any help appreciated.

    Hello:
Office 2004 was written for the PowerPC chip only.  There is no emulation in OS X 10.7.
I encountered the same issue sometime ago when I updated to OS X 10.7.
There is one option that I might mention (other than buy Office 2011).  I switched to Apple's iWork.  Pages (the word processing package) is completely compatible with Word.  If you export Pages documents, you can export them in formats compatible with Microsoft programs.  iWork also contains programs that are compatible with Office presentation and spreadsheet packages.
The reason I mention this is that the cost is about 1/2 of the cost of Office.

  • HT1338 i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

i purchased dvd studio pro and im trying to install it but when i go to click continue it gives me this  "you cant open the application gestalt tool becasue powerpc applications are no longer supported" what does that mean and how can i fix this ?

I note this information from Wikipedia: "DVD Studio Pro was a high-end software tool published by Apple Inc. to allow users to create DVD masters to be sent out for replication at production houses. Its tight integration with other Apple applications allows users to take Final Cut Pro and Motion projects and render them into the DVD format without encoding to intermediary formats. This streamlines the production workflow and reduces overhead."
If that is your intent, finding a substitute program that will run on your Mac may not be as efficient.  Others can advise you on alternatives, or you can post a new thread specifically with that question.
BTW: what Mac and what version of OS X?
If it is important to you to continue to use DVD Studio Pro, consider the option of installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels on your Mac:

Full Snow Leopard installation instructions are here.

  • Does iMovie 11 support native AVCHD (.mts) files?

Native AVCHD file support is the first thing I expected for the new iMovie. Does iMovie 11 support native AVCHD (.mts) files? Or it has the same painful way of importing and converting AVCHD files to the other format like iMovie 09?
Is there any improvements for AVCHD file supports in iMovie 11?

I don't think it does. I picked up a copy this afternoon after the keynote (I like the way that Apple stores have them in stock right away - and at $49 it wasn't really a painful experiment) hoping this would be the case, but it does not appear to be so.
After installing, I tried to import some loose .mts files, but they are greyed out. Some brief exploring turned up nothing to help.
This is really too bad. It would be so nice to be able to save the individual .mts file on my hard drive, and access them when necessary. I'm fine with the intermediate encoding iMovie does before editing, but forcing me to use the silly file structure of my camera's hard drive, or an iMovie archive (basically the same thing) is frustrating.
Allowing the import of naked .mts files would be a huge step forward.
Assuming I'm not wrong about this, what is the best way to work around this? What is the best way to bring loose .mts files into iMovie? (And I hope I'm not hijacking the thread by asking this.)
