Does iMovie require a monitor gamma of 1.8 ?

Does iMovie require a monitor gamma of 1.8 or does it use ColorSync (or some other form of colour management) to take account of th efact that a monitor might be using a different gamma from a custon profile?
My monitors are set to 2.2 gamma, 6500°K fo rphoto editing and I'm still trying to work out if this is ok for iMovie or if I should reset to a 1.8 gamma profile when I'm using it.

I don't believe that iMovie has its own gamma settings ..it just sends video to your display, whatever that is.
But maybe you need to consider how the final, edited video will be seen, and what will be the gamma setup of the final display device.
Dan's "Unofficial" iMovie FAQ shows a bit of old-style gamma correction, noting that PCs generally are set to 2.2 and Macs to 1.8 ..but is the result going to be shown on a TV, or via a projector, or transferred to film, or what?
Decide on the final delivery device's gamma, then set your editing monitor(s) accordingly, so that while you edit you're looking at a similar style display to that of your final delivery.

  • Does Apple TV require a monitor connection for boot up?

I'm trying to use ATV as an audio server only (no video) controlled via the Apple remote application on my iPhone for connection to a distributed audio system in my house. I have connected the ATV to a Plasma TV via HDMI for configuration and connection to my wireless network and everything has synchronized and is working properly. I then unplug the ATV and move it to a new location for distributed audio purposes only and the ATV is not connecting back to the network. I have no monitor located anywhere near the new connection point so I only have RCA audio capables attached between the ATV and my distributed audio system (Russound CAV 6.6) My question is this: Does ATV require a monitor be connected to complete the boot up process and connect back to the network?

yes multiple libraries (the file that has location of content) but a single centralized storage location for content... but i thought that's what you wanted in each zone? if not you could just have multiple accounts, enable iTunes sharing to the other accounts and then airTunes from those accounts to the appleTVs (if that works haven't tried it)... could only do audio this way since video iTunes sharing only works from computer to computer.
me and my wife have separate accounts on our G5 desktop. so we each can have our own playlists, podcast etc but as far as actual content... thats on one location that we can both access and we share that. music for both accounts is in a shared folder on an internal drive and movies are on an external drive that we both have access to as well. we have nothing in our iTunes folders except our podcasts that we subscribe to. this way there is no duplication of content. we also have a mac mini in a bedroom that has nothing on it... everything there (movies, music etc) is access via iTunes sharing from my or my wife's (usually mine... since all the movies are added on my account)... so in this way you do have centralized storage.. and you also have the flexibility of having different content if that's what you'd like. i think people have gotten into trouble when they've tried to use the same library and iTunes folder for multiple account and ended with corrupted library file..

  • Does imovie really require a G5?

Hey, so i was looking at ilife 08, and it says that imovie requires a G5, is that true? i'm getting a Powermac Dual 1GHZ G4 MDD, and i was really hoping i could use it for imovie, but does this crush my plans? Imovie 6 worked beautifully on my ibook G4 1GHZ, 512MB Ram, it is sounding like imovie, the small, simple movie program is turning into Final Cut Pro. I don't get it.

Unfortunately, iMovie-7 (aka iMovie '08) doesn't work right on my G4 and I am back to using iMovie-6.
Just thought I would share the details of this experience with you all. iMovie-7 appeared to run fine at first - until after I hooked up my camera. I chose manual import mode and just tried to find the beginning of a clip to import. I noticed right away that the video was skipping frames and there was no sound. I thought it might be tolerable and just went ahead and tried to import plain old NTSC DV. Then I noticed that the clip Event date was today when it should have been pulling the date from the DV. Finally, when actually attempting the import after 30s resulted in a crash of iMovie and no usable video clip. Instead I got a bunch of clips that each seemed to be a single frame with all objects obscured by random digital artifacts. They looked like something you'd see in a modern art museum - containing no recognizable objects in the frame at all.
Too bad. My experience until now has been that my Dual G4 with the latest version of OSX (Tiger in this case) never missed a trick. I would be willing to spend the $300 on a better video card for the G4 if someone else could testify to their personal success in using iMovie-7 with it. I doubt the camera has anything to with with the problem, since it is a Canon GL1 (and works fine with all the previous iMovie versions).
I may try again under Leopard but I suspect it won't matter because it is the old GeForce4 Ti 4600 video card with 128MB of RAM that is holding me back. I wish the guy who shared the iMovie-7 for G4 tweak (http://www.teksanity.com/iMovie/iMovie08_onG4/Fixed.html) would have listed his detailed machine specs. Oh well, the 5 year old G4 had to start becoming obsolete eventually. Still I prefer it far more than a 5 year old PC!
    Regards.

  • IMovie required an update, now it is shutting down automatically. Please help.

iMovie required an update, now it is shutting down automatically. Please Help.

To stop Auto updates use: '''Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Update Tab ''' <br> select the options you require ( see [[Updating Firefox]] )
As for why your version does not work I do not know but suggest you look at:
    * [[Safe Mode]] Note when using safe mode do not make changes on the first dialogue Window you see; click the Continue button
    * [[Basic Troubleshooting]]
You may also need to review the versions of Java see
    * [[Using the Java plugin with Firefox]]
    * "Why do I need Java 6 Update 10 and above for Firefox 3.6 and later versions? " - http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/firefox_newplugin.xml
Your System details show you as using version 3.6.12 of Firefox, that is not the latest version, it would be normal practice to update to the latest version, which is why you are being offered the updates. See also [[Software Update Failed]]

  • Does imovie 09 support mpeg1 muxed?

Anyone know if imovie 09 naturally supports mpeg1 muxed or do we still have to go through the streamclip conversion BS?

If your camera creates MPEG-1 files you'll need to convert them prior to use in any version of iMovie.
MPEG-1 Layer 3 (the audio portion known as .mp3) does not require conversion.

  • Does iMovie 11 Support Editing AVCHD natively?

Does iMovie 11 support editing AVCHD files natively or conversion to an intermediate codec is needed?

    Not to the naked eye.
AVCHD is a highly compressed Group of Pictures format. iMovie does all its rendering at the end when you share the project, so to edit AVCHD natively requires that it would do all rendering plus translate the compressed frames of AVCHD on the fly. This would take a very powerful Mac, so Apple does not offer it.
Final Cut Pro does rendering in the background and does not wait until the project is complete before rendering, so it can edit natively. However, ProRes422 is a very advanced codec, and most people claim that you lose nothing in using ProRes. It also uses 4:2:2 chroma sampling (rather than iMovie Apple Intermediate Codec which uses 4:2:0) which should mean higher color fidelity.
    So iMovie = very good.
Final Cut Pro X = Best
For consumer level equipment, (like mine) you probably will not notice.

  • Does imovie supports avchd files

does imovie 11 supports avchd files?

Yes, Maybe and No.  For iMovie '11, the answer is spread across a number of support responses and in the details of the technical requirements of the related products.
Yes.  It appears that if you keep the SD card in the camera and direct connect it to your Mac you may import and it will allow you to select the clips (as shown in the iMovie '11 import video -- Artcile VI104).  (But see notes below under Maybe and No.)
Maybe.  If you don't have the camera anymore, but you can copy the entire directory structure of the SD card over to a drive and copy it to a disk image then you should be able to import using an import command and choose the mounted disk image.  (But see note below under No.)
No.  If your resolution is set too high for iMovie then it will not import.  For example, using the disk image workaround I was able to get iMovie to show that clips were present, but it would not allow importing because they were originally done at 60p (Panasonic SD90 1080p).  The clip import window (as shown in Article VI104) shows different clips, but they show up as black with red "no" line across them with a "60."
If you want to import then make sure your resolution and frame rate is supported by iMovie.
The other options seem to be:
Buy a software transcoder specific to the purpose of converting .mts file to some other format for iMovie.
Transcode via Handbrake or Toast (results were not great in my opinion).
Toast workaround.  Create a DVD image in Toast and mount and import the image.  This works great.  There is a video on YouTube for it.  The one problem is that Toast will break large clips into smaller DVD files.  It did not seem to lose data, but now one large clip was three our four smaller ones and the time/date data was lost.  You have to reorder them in iMovie.  Quality was fine.  Time needed was OK.  Workflow was awful because of the larger clips being split.
Rewrap the .mts file in something iMovie can handle.  Seems to work fine and is the quickest so far.  There are pay-for wrappers and free wrappers/automator files available.

  • I have recently upgraded my iBookG4 from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.8 and find my Bluetooth USB adaptor no longer connects. The Bluetooth pane says inactive. Does Leopard require  USB 2.0. I've had the adaptor for some time so may be USB 1.0

I have recently upgraded my iBookG4 from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.8 and find my Bluetooth USB adaptor no longer connects. The Bluetooth pane says inactive. Does Leopard require  USB 2.0. I've had the adaptor for some time so may be USB 1.0

Bluetooth icon on menu bar shows bluetooth off. When opening bluetooth preferences it shows the devices I've connected previously,( my mobile phone), and other devices I've attempted to connect but not very successfully: my iPhone and MiniMac.  The bluetooth dongle in the USB port shows a continual blue light but does not react and the iBook does not recognise that it is there. There is absolutely no reaction when I try to pair my mobile phone, which I've done successfully before upgrading to Leopard, either by the iBook or the mobile phone.
I assumed that Tiger was not bluetooth compatible with the iPhone or MacMini running SnowLeopard and hoped by upgrading to Leopard I could achieve some file transfers between the three devices (iBook, iPhone and MacMini)

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

  • Where can I get a digital certifcate that does not require a USB key?

Where can I get a digital certificate that I can use with Adobe Acrobat that does not require a USB hardware key?
I have been able to sign PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat versions 6 and 9 with my code signing certificate. When I use my code signing certificate Acrobat says the validity of the document certification is unknown.

Per existing standards (RFC 5280) code signing certificates may not be used for signing. For a number of versions Acrobat had a bug that ignored this requirement. Starting with version 11.0.07 Acrobat (and Reader) enforces this requirement.
