Does iMovie use every beat marker?
I am new to using beat markers. I set up a song with beat markers and dragged in photos and videos. I noticed that iMovie didn't use every beat marker, especially ones that were close together. I also noticed that it didn't seem to line up the beat to the dead center middle of the transition each time. (I do have snap to beats selected) Is this the way it is supposed to work? Regardless, the result was pretty good. I'm just not sure if that was coincidental or if imovie is just that smart as to where to line up the transitions.
Just looking for this myself.
Project worked perfectly with snap to beats, and suddenly no further snapping worked.
The problem - I added a transition near the beginning. It didn't affect existing timing, they were still perfect, but it disabled all further "snap to beats" placements.
Just delete that one transition and "snap to beats" worked again.

If I'm getting this correctly, you can open Pages documents but not save or export. Are you certain that you are using a fully registered version of Pages? What you describe sounds a little like a Trial version that has expired. Sometimes we may have an expired trial version of iWork in addition to a more recently purchased fully-owned copy. Unless we eliminate this trial version we will continue to have trouble. Do you think this might be the problem?

Why does iMovie crash every time I launch it?
Everytime I launch iMovie it crashes a few seconds after it opens. I've never had any problems with it. Does anyone know why this happens and or how to fix it? I just wanted to make a video slideshow and set it to music but I can't get iMovie to stay open longer than a few seconds.

Bless the apple support community. I found the samre answer on a different thread.
In the Finder, navigate to the "Go" menu. Select "Go to Folder". Type in "/Library/Quicktime" without the quotes. This will take you to the "Library" folder which is hidden in Lion. If it's installed on your machine, you should see the 3ivxvideocodec file in there. Drag it to the Trash. Hope this fixes the problem!

Why does iMovie load every project when it opens?
The genius that I talked to in the Apple Store said that I needed to save my projects. But that does not seem possible.
It happens to me too. I think you might have to delete the footage that you are working on once you have completed and saved your movie. I noticed that whenever i deleted a clip, it would not load back with the other clips whenever i relaunched iMovie.

Trouble with beat marks in imovie 09
Must be me but here is my situation. The first 15 seconds of my project is an avi with audio to it. I want to insert 75 pictures to an audio file that plays after the first 15 seconds with beat marks. I am having trouble doing this. I can't find a tutorial that lets me do this. "An helpers out there?
I see this was a MP4 clip brought into iMovie from iPhoto. The encoder is given only as AVC. Was the original clip from a camera shooting AVCHD? I am surprised that the audio is good since often AAC is a problem and also the rate is 44.1KHz not 48 which is standard for video. What camera did you use? iMovie 10 should work with AVCHD but it is highly compressed and can be problematic depending on the power of your computer. You might try converting the clip to Quicktime movie with prores 4.2.2 encoder using MPEG Streamclip which is a free download.

I noticed on imovie ’09, my GPU isn’t used at all to import or encode videos...
Does imovie 11 use the GPU to help out at all?Some software use the computer’s GPU (addition to or in place of the CPU) in order to complete its given task in a shorter period of time. Photoshop is an example of one of these applications; it uses the GPU instead of the CPU to complete its tasks faster. 3DS Max is another example. It uses all available cores to render faster.
Now you might be thinking those all have to do with graphics... Well... Doesn’t imovie have to do with graphics, too? I mean utilizing the GPU to encode video is a good idea IMO. Even if you don’t associate iMovie with graphics, and somehow think it’s impossible for it to ever take advantage of a GPU, what about the other software that’s completely unrelated to graphics and video encoding? The legality or intentions of the software is questionable... (ie wireless network auditing) But regardless, it still takes advantage of the GPU to accelerate its tasks to incredible speeds. If stuff like that can do it, why can’t a program designed for processing video do it?
Anyway, I won’t be able to tell you if adobe makes NTSC discs or not. I already have toast 10 which I just discovered it burns NTSC DVD discs and even Blu Ray video discs without returning a demuxing error every other video. And to think it was only useful for burning data discs. It doesn’t use the GPU either, but it seems to encode DVD video considerably faster than iDVD. -

Are you actually having a problem with the new Lacie drive, or are you just asking is the Lacie drive somehow different from your old G-Drive?
From a connection standpoint, most Lacie desktop drives have both USB and FireWire connections, just like the G-Drives do. You would connect and use it the same as a G-Drive.
Regarding capturing to the external HD, if you are using a camcorder that has FireWire (iLink) connection, it is not advisable to have an external FireWire HD connected to your Mac at the same time as your camcorder; there are often communication conflicts between the camcorder and the hard drive if they are connected at the same time. The conflicts usually appear as either dropped frames or a complete freeze. This is more common with Canon miniDV camcorders but I have also seen this behavior with Sony miniDV camcorders. (The problem is the camcorder's FW implementation, not the hard drive.) The workaround is to capture to your Mac's internal HD and later copy the captured video to your external HD. -
I first added a song to my project and added beat marks using the "tap M" feature where I want a beat mark. Then I dragged in a number of still photos. The photos look great. Changing to the beat of the song. But now I want to add a Title Text window at the very beginning, have it on the screen for about 4-5 seconds, and then start my slideshow to the music. The problem is when I add that text window to the begining, the song wants to start there. I want it to start on the first photo. Can anyone help?

Acrobat on OSX does not use printer preset. Every single time I have to print I have to click printer and then print to load the preset and then click print again from the main dialog. I am printing to a Xerox that has the copier code in the preset so if I don't do this it will not print. This has been broken for in every version I have tried. This extra clicks are taking years off my life. Did I remember to do the extra clicks? I don't know, I guess I will run down the hall and check. Please fix this.
What operating system are you running? I assume they had you install the latest BIOS. True? If it were mine, I would suggest forcing it to use integrated graphics (in the BIOS) to rule out a problem with the NVidia driver.

I purchased an IPhone 4 yesterday and I have already used 73.81 mb of my 200 mb. I have only read my emails and downloaded one game from App Store. Does it use MB everytime I play the game? does it use mb the whole time I am on my emails. What uses MB?
Playing a game probably won't use much, if any... Downloading all those cool games and apps could have easily used that up, however.
Use WiFi whenever you can or download apps to your computer, then sync them to the phone with the cable. -
Why does iMove '08 take so long to process video??
In iMove '06, I could record from my DVR into my machine, edit out what I didn't want, then immediately export the video to iDVD to burn it. The entire editing/burning process took about 1.5 hours. Now due to the fact that iMovie has to process the video for the media browser, the entire editing/burning process took almost 6 hours (for 1.5 hours worth of video). I find this to be very disturbing. My time is valuable & the new program is taking much, much longer to do the same things I used to do in about one fourth the time. I do really like the new editing feature, as it allows me to be much more precise than in iMovie '06. Is there something that I should be doing different?? I had iMovie use the 'medium' mode for the sharing preparation. Should I use the 'low' setting instead?? And, once I have finished my editing, is there a way to directly export the video to iDVD, without having to 'prepare' the video for sharing in the media browser?? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It takes longer because iMovie has to create thumbnails for the media browser. It captures thumbnails every few seconds so that it can divide up the movie in the media browser for easier skimming and clipping. On my computer, it told me it would take 15 minutes to process a 32-minute Keynote presentation video export.

Adding additional music tracks after beat-marking 1st track
I've begun a project by first adding a music track. I've beat-marked that track and now would like to add a second track.
When I drag the second song into my project, however, I find it completely obliterates the first track.
Is there any way to simply append the second without erasing the first?
Thanks!I have the same question with a little twist. I'm using the iMovie 11, last version before the new one. When I try to ad a second song behind the first beat marked song, it seems to just wrap around the first song.

Does iMovie 6 have AVCHD capabilities?
Look, I don't even know what AVCHD is, but I'm thinking of buying the new Panasonic GH1 DSLR camera and its supposed to have AVCHD. I assume that AVCHD is a great feature to have even though I don't know what its supposed to do.
My question is: I do all my digital movie editing in "iMovie 6 " ...Does iMovie 6 have AVCH capabilities and if it does, what's so good about it?.. Your answers will tell me if I should buy this new DSLR...

iMovie 08/09 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video. -
Is there any way to get a video clip to snap to a beat marker?
I have tried everything and cannot get this to work. The video clip snaps ONLY to the timeline and ignores the beat marker. It doesn't make any difference if "Snap" is on or off.
When "Snap" is on and I attempt to move the video clip to snap to the beat marker, I see a red line indicating the edge of the beat marker, but there is no way to get the clip to snap to it.
This to me is a bug and I hope this can be fixed soon because there is no way to truly synchronize your video to the beats of your audio track. Those of you who think your video is "beat" synced to your audio, please look very closely at the precise location of your video in relation to your wave forms.
Another way of putting this whole thing is that there is no way to position the start or endpoint of any video or audio track in-between any frames. The start and endpoints will always coincide with a frame. It would be real nice to be able to nudge a track left or right so that it's start or endpoint lie in-between a frame.I keep getting people telling me how it is possible to position the starting or end point of a clip in-between a frame. With all due respect I don't think these individuals really understand the relationship of the clip and the frame. At least that is my understanding.
So I assume that the following is true:
If you want to sync a video clip to an audio peak that lies in-between a frame, the only possible way that his can be done is to edit the audio so the audio peak falls precisely on a frame. This is because you can only place begin and start points of a clip directly on a frame and not in-between.
