Does Indesign CS4 recognize missing fonts in links?

Could anyone tell me if Indesign CS4 (or any version of Indesign) will recognize missing fonts used in a linked image? We have a customer that is using Indesign CS4 they have linked images from photoshop (no fonts in the photoshop images) and .eps files that were created using Easy Barcode Creator. Indesign is not seeing that the font is missing from the eps file (easy barcode reader), nor is there an error when exporting a PDF or print a PS. Preflight in Indesign doesn't detect this either. If I open the eps in Illustrator then I get a font missing error. I don't want to open all the files (supporting links) to find out if I have missing fonts. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been playing with this a little, and I get what you see, too with .eps files. Find font will list the fonts used in the links, but for the most part woen't tell you if they are missing (seems to know they're missing in placed .indd files, though). Not a whole lot of help, but at least it puts the list out front where you can see the fonts, and check to see what doesn't look familiar.
Maybe the scripting guys have some clever ideas.

  • I cant place a pdf in Indesign because of missing fonts

    I am running into a problem with a pdf add I am trying to place in a booklet. When I go to export the Indesign  document it tells me it cant because the pdf I placed in it has a font I don't have. I always thought you could place and print pdfs without having all the fonts. I thought it was only if you wanted to edit the pdf that you needed the font. Isn't that the point of a pdf? Does any one have a good solution for this? I am using Indesign cc 201 on a mac. The pdf is secure so I cant run any sort of preflight or flattening on it( at least as far as I know).

    Is the export really failing, or are you getting a missing font warning and cancelling? The ad may not look good, but you should still be able to export, I think.
    But bottom line here is that you need to educate the folks who send in the ads so they always embed the fonts.

  • InDesign CS4 not packing fonts

    I'm using InDesign CS4. All of a sudden, a new problem has ocurred. When I package files, the "Fonts" folder is no longer being created with all the fonts used in the file. The "Links" folder is here, but no "Fonts"

    Are you sure you haven't converted everything to outlines?
    Not sure what else you could try apart from the standard trashing your prefs or cleaning by exporting but if those don't work post this question on the Indesign forum, you'll get far more people answering there.

  • InDesign CS4 Volume Licensing Installer Download Link

    Hello Folks,
    I'm trying to find the link to download my old InDesign 6.0 (CS4) as I lost the original CD, but there is no Link available on the volume licensing site.
    Does anybody know where I could find this?
    Thanks!

    @Peter Spier: Thanks, the Installer from that link you suggested worked. I thought I had tried that one previously for InDesign but it was for another adobe product (sorry for the confusion).
    I spoke to Adobe representative(s) before I posted on the forum, one suggested going to Other downloads and download the Installer and when I tried it my serial # didn't work, I called them back and another one said I should find the right Installer on my Volume Licensing site, and of course there was no link to download InDesign CS4...
    Anyway, it worked and that's what matters, I really appreciate your help.

  • InDesign CS4 / CS5 missing JavaScript Socket() object?

    If I do
    var mySocketObject = new Socket();
    socket.open("mywebsite.com:80", "BINARY")
    in Photoshop, it creates a socket object called mySocketObject, which is not null and opens the socket correctly.
    If I do the same thing in InDesign CS5, the same command fails.
    I know this works in InDesign CS3, so what does one need to do to make Socket() work in InDesign CS4/5?

    Adobe's own Javascript Tools Guide is your friend for snippets like these.
    This is from the CS4 guide, but it should work for CS5 as well:
    reply = "";
    conn = new Socket; // access Adobe’s home page
    if (conn.open ("www.adobe.com:80"))
    // send a HTTP GET request
    conn.write ("GET /index.html HTTP/1.0\n\n");
    // and read the server’s reply
    reply = conn.read(999999);
    conn.close();

  • InDesign CS4 packages multiple copies of links from book

    I use the Book feature to package the 20-some-odd newspaper ads we create weekly at our in-house art dept for a grocery chain. These ads consist of placed JPEGs of products surrounded by supporting copy and prices. Each ad is a different size and sometimes the products vary from ad to ad, but most use links common to eachother.
    The trouble I'm having with ID CS4 is that when I package the book containing all these ads, each common link is copied separately for each ad into the Links folder. For example: File.jpg, File_1.jpg, File_2.jpg, etc.
    I've experienced this in CS3 only when the links have had the same file name but were linked from different paths. In CS4, even when the .indd files are all linking to the same files with the same paths, extra copies are created.
    I've found it tedious to use the Finder to delete all the extra copies and then re-link everything in InDesign.
    Is this a bug or am I missing some setting somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Amanda

    I recreated this problem using a single PSD file that I placed in a 6 page Book file. I found that when you resize the image and/or re-crop the picture box, the book package with create copies of the image.
    So, my vote is that this is a bug too.

  • Why does InDesign sometimes NOT package fonts?

    Hi. I'm using the latest version of InDesign and lately, when I package files, I've noticed that the 'document fonts' folder is not always created in the finished packaged folder. There seems to be no pattern to when it does or does not include them. For instance, on one job it did include them, then on the same job when the artwork had been updated, it did not. Same typefaces etc. Any ideas?

    Okay. So you do not have the latest version but you do have the most recent patch for CS5. I know there were some issues with Type 1 fonts but I’ve heard nothing about issues with Opentype or TrueType especially on Windows.
    Sorry, but I really don’t what to tell you.

  • Why does Indesign CS4 stall on my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard as soon as I load a file?

    I recently bought a Mac Pro (operating system: Snow Leopard) and installed the latest versions of Photoshop and InDesign (both CS4). I also installed those programmes on my older MacBook Pro with the former (Leopard) operating system.
    Photoshop works just fine on the Mac Pro, with the machine's new Snow Leopard operating system. However, there is a problem with InDesign. Everytime I open a file, even opening a new file, the programme is stalling and I have to force-stop it.
    Does anyone out there in the Adobe Community have a similar problem and could suggest a solution?
    Looking thankfully forward to interesting replies!  Emil

    I first installed the next to last version; the problem appeared there
    (programme stalling as soon as a document is opened). I then updated to
    6.04, hoping for a solution, but the problem remained unresolved. I still
    cannot open a document without stalling InDesign. When installing InDesign
    in my MacBook Pro (which runs Leopard), the problem does not arise. I am
    able to open documents there and work as usual. The operative system was
    installed by the supplier of the machine. Since I was not able to access it
    (Password issues), I reinstalled it by booting the MacPro from the disquette
    that was delivered together with the machine.
    HELP! I am getting desparate!

  • Missing Fonts and links

    I lost all my fonts after the updates how do I get my fonts and missing links back?

    I have this issue too.  I am missing handwriting dakota which is only leased to Apple.  According to the information researched all other download applications from the web are corrupt.  I have these in the photobooks that I sell.  I have just received an additional order for both a bride's and groom"s Mom.  They want the same Font.

  • Why does InDesign CS4 crash when exporting to PDF?

    I have a 72 page document and when I export to PDF, it gets to the end and crashes. I can export to pdf in 10 page chunks successfully, but with 30 or more pages it crashes. Could it be temporary file or memory problem. Appreciate any help as I am new to InDesign and need to get this document to print soon.

    This may be of no help to KodiKodi, but it may be of assistance to someone else trying to export large files to PDF.
    I was attempting to export a large CS4 document (800 pages, 200 MB) on a G5 iMac (2.5 GB RAM), to a 3GB single-page PDF file. The export worked in one go.
    Then, for a particular reason, I placed the entire PDF back into a new InDesign document which turned into a 800-page, 400 MB file, double the original size even though it was really the same file but in a different format. I exported that single-page InDesign file to PDF using the spread format, but it wouldn't export in one pass. Wouldn't do it two passes either. I noticed as the export progressed it got slower and slower. The export started at the rate of about 1 page every two seconds, but by about the 400 page mark was down to 1 page every 10 seconds or longer, but would never come to anything.
    So, I tried exporting as 100 page chunks (2-99, 100-199 ...). Took about 2 minutes for the first 100 pages, but I noticed the export rate was slowing down. The second hundred pages took significantly longer than 2 minutes. I found I could get back the export speed if I closed the file after the first hundred, and reopened it (even though it was 400 MB, it would open in a few seconds), and then export the second hundred pages; and so on all through the file.
    For some reason, closing the InDesign file must reset memory allocation or something like that, with the result that exporting to PDF retains it's normal speed.

  • InDesign CS4 is missing!

    Got a new macbook. Migrated everything from my imac. Lots of apps don't work, it's all a mess. I tried to clean it up, deleted stuff, and reintalled 10.7.
    Then I inserted the original Creative Suite CS4 Design Standard install CD, and InDesign is not even in the list of items to install! It doesn't show up at all, but photoshop and illustrator are fine. Help?

    Well if it isn't on the CD/DVD then just how did you install it in the first place? I only use PS and Lightroom but is Indesign included with the Standard version of any CS version. You may of bought it separate and should have either a DVD for it or the Download (Always SAVE Program Downloads) and if you downloaded it you should of gotten an Email with the registration code (Always make a Text of Word processing file of all your Program license coded and print it out to have a hard copy and save it to all the computer you own. I also have mine on my phone).
    Or simply you didn't have InDesign installed.

  • Indesign CS4 Problem with Fonts

    Hello,
    If I select to edit a font from anywhere other than the top menu (the bar) the app crashes. If I go to the tabs click the font menu, it scrolls for 2 seconds then bombs.
    What can i do?

    You have not provided any proper system info or other details. The obvious answer is that you have a "bad" font on your system that causes the crash when rendering the font previews and need to remove it...

  • Why isnt Indesign CS5 showing "missing" fonts in the same way as previous versions?

    A font in our layout is not displaying as italic (this is one of those situations where there are several weights in a font family and the italic is called Gotham Book Italic and not just Gotham Italic) and not highlighting at all in the layout with the pink box.
    When you select the problematic type, the window shows it as [Italic] which would be fine on its own but when I go up to FIND FONT to find and replace all instances with the proper Italic font, it doesnt show up at all as a font, let alone as an issue.
    So far, purchasing CS5 Design Premium seems to have been more trouble than its worth.

    I think maybe it would be a good idea to run the file through .inx or .idml. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Where does InDesign CS4 get the name for the .icml file when using "Add to Assignment"?

    I'm trying to figure out a larger problem with InDesign and InCopy files and was curious about where the names comes from. When I add a story to an assignment it doesn't ask me for a name. It seems it is using a name from sometime in the document's past.

    Found it...
    ${bindings.XXXXXX.path}Found it when trying out LOV's... The messageLovInput node uses it to populate it's id.

  • Fonts in linked eps-graphics show INCORRECTLY in InDesign, but show CORRECTLY in Illustrator

    Hi,
    I'm using Creative Suite CS4 on pc.
    When I open an InDesign CS4 file, the fonts in the the linked .eps graphics, in this case numbers,
    are shown as tall rectangles. If I open the source eps-graphic in Illustrator CS4,
    all numbers are shown correctly. Resaving the eps-file and updating the link doesn't help, neither does
    exporting to PDF. Fonts are still shown incorrectly in InDesign.
    Both the InDesign-file and the eps-graphics were originally created with CS2.
    Opening the InDesign-file in CS2 results in the fonts showing correctly.
    Does anyone know what is causing this and how to solve the problem?
    Quite perplexed!

    Hi again,
    Unfortunately, I am still stumped with this problem. I've taken a test document with 8 graphics and done the following:
    1. saved all .EPS graphics to .AI > relinked in ID to .AI
    2. used distiller with PDF/X1-a > relinked in ID to PDF
    3. used distiller with PDF/X1-b > relinked in ID to PDF
    4. used distiller with PDF/X3 > relinked in ID to PDF
    5. saved .EPS graphics to .AI > resaved .AI to PDF/X-4 in Illustrator > relinked in ID to PDF
    Results in all cases were "consistent" i.e. identical:
    6 out of the 8 graphics were resized AND repositioned in ID!!
    WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Any more ideas, anyone?
