Does Indesign have a text line tool?

I am thinking of moving to Indesign from quark, and I have been trying to find the equivalent to quarks text line tool, is this available?
Thx
Brad

Hi Rodney
Thankyou for your promt reply, I have since found the line tool and with the type in a path tool it seemed to work OK, the only difference I found was you cannot grab the handles on the line path and control it's length or angles after the fact? I had to use the propery manager.
Thank you again for your time
Brad

  • HT1596 macbook Pro 15" mountain lion does't have any Audio Line In/Out.

i'm macbook Pro Retina display 15" user. i realised that this macbook does't have any Audio Line In/Out. I really need this to record audio direct from instrument to GarageBand. Any other way to do this?

Maybe the music pros will pop in soon (late night GarageBand sessions and all). From what I've read, most of the musical types around here use some sort of Firewire devices for audio in/out so you'd at the least need a Thunderbolt>Firewire adapter.
You might want to take your question to the GarageBand forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/garageband - while a number of you musical types use MBPs, I would bet that you'd get more answers to your query in that forum.
    Good luck,

  • Does PM have a "Find Font" tool like ID does?

I have a newsletter that someone else created and Im having a problem converting to a PDF, I think its conflicting with a font thats being used somewhere.  Does PM have something like ID does where it will list all the fonts your document is using and lets you also swap them out for other fonts if desired?

You dont have to tell me about sticking with InDesign.  Part of being customer friendly is to work with whatever files they provide us with and unforutnately MANY still use Pagemaker....its so painful!
Where is "save for service provider" that you mentioned in Pagemaker?  And I dont know what you mean about edit mode, isnt it always in edit mode?
Save for service provider:  Utilities -> Plug-ins -> Save for Service Provider
PM is in Layout Mode by default.  Either select the text block with the master tool or put the Text I-bar  into the text of a text block and hit Ctrl+E for Edit mode.

I see the Service Provider option, dont really understand what its all about being it says this docment is ok for making a PS (which will not distill this way or not)  but says its not ok for the PUB option.  I did see where it says the fonts that are used though and the pages they are used on but do not see a way to swap all of a font to another font

  • Does photoshop have a healing brush tool like lightroom v5 ?

    Hi
i have photoshop cs6 , and i was watching a video about the new lightroom features
it was amazing how in this video lightroom v5 brush tool work
does cs6 have such feature ? or is included in cc only?
at minute 9:06 there is an amazing review about this tool
    thanks

You really should think about a CC subscription Hudders.  There is something very liberating about using Camera RAW as a filter in an opened image document, and you can do it on a Smart Object.   The new features in each new version of PS have a habit of creeping up on you.  You start out thinking , ‘yes this is nice, but is it really so very much better?’, and before you know it, you become utterly panic stricken at the very thought of not having those new features.
The new spot removal tool in ACR 8.# is like a Patch tool that automatically choses the best possible source pixels to fix a blemish, and I love it.

  • Does Illustrator have a Gradient Feather tool like InDesign?

CS4...I know it has to be here somewhere, I know the gradient tool in In InDesign but cant find one in Illustrator.  I see the normal feather but it seems to just feather the edges.  I need it to start full on one end and fade out to the other end

Illustrator can feather transparency just as well as InDesign. Better, in fact. But the interface for doing so is convoluted and has long been one of the most asked questions on the forum. Look up Opacity Mask in the help files. Basically, you first create a gradient, gradient mesh, or a number of objects with different grayscale fills, which are then grouped. This object or group is placed above the object, image, or group to be masked and you Make Opacity Mask in the Transparency panel.

  • Does InDesign have a CLI? Batch processing projects

    Hello all,
I think I already know the answer but I thought I'd ask anyway.
    A little background...
When I push my MadCap Flare source to our source control, we have a buildbot that automatically runs a shell script that compiles/publishes my Flare source (via Flare CLI compatible MadBuild) to pushes it to a latest build server.
Now I have a documentation project that is impossible to build in Flare, so I must use Indesign (it is a poster-style quick start guide). I am hoping that InDesign has a similar feature where I can push the InDesign source to our source control server and have the buildbot automatically publish via a shell script.
All I need is an InDesign batch file method (via Command Line Interface) of publishing. Is this possible? If so, someone please point me to instructions on how to use the command line options.
    NOTES:
    - I found some information about Indesignserver for CS3 but my installation only has "InDesignServerService.exe.metagen" - no other similarly named files.
    - I am using Adobe Indesign CC CS6
    Thanks!

InDesign can run startup scripts that you can build with Extendscript (comes with InDesign.) It might be possible to dedicate an InDesign installation to start up with a dedicated script that performs what you need, when your source-control application launches InDesign.
Another possibility might be to have an InDesign script periodically look for a file in a location and when it finds it, perform operations on that file. The source-control application would put the file for InDesign to find.
These are technically called "wild guesses" at solutions. You sound tech-enough to go further.
However, read the InDesign license agreement to see if this is permissible use. Some applications don't permit using a single-user installation as a service for other users.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that InDesign does have some XML smarts. Depending on your needs, it might be possible to output InDesign documents and/or templates in XML form, and process them with an XML processor that does run from a CLI. Worth a look, anyway. Also, look up the book XML for InDesign by James Maivald. You might find useful info in it.[/EDIT]

  • Does InDesign have Shared Content Like Quark?

We soon will be working on our new catalog that was originally done in Quark. When I and the other designer did this catalog we used Content Sharing in Quark to do the catalog. We had the catalog stored on a server drive that we both could access. This eliminated much of the catalog being tossed back and forth between us to do work on and kept the document clean and up-to-date.
We are now going to switch it over to InDesign. We both use CS3 on a Mac (I also use a PC) and want to use this same type of document sharing in InDesign. Is InCopy the way to go? Is this the same as Content Sharing in Quark? We also did the product graphs using Content Sharing which worked out great. Is this possible in InDesign?
I will be using Q2ID Quark to Adobe plug-in to convert the Quark document ti InDesign. I have used this plug-in for one or two page flyers, but not for a large document like our 128-page catalog. Is there anything I need to know when converting the catalog over? Our catalog consists of images, product graphs (done as text not tables) and style sheets.
    Thanks everyone for your answers.

Not really sure what content sharing is in Quark, but yes, it sounds like InCopy would be a good solution for you.
Q2ID is an excellent product and does a great job of converting ID files, but as the old saying goes, GIGO.

  • Does InDesign have any security features that can be used in a design?

Our client would like us to create some certificiates which are to be printed using holograms, guilloche and security design patterns, micro text, etc, etc.  I'm of the understanding that this is a specialist field and we would need specific software are there any plugins available for InDesign?

    It's specialised printing equipment.
You should source your printers first and talk to them about any concerns and design requirements.

  • Does Mac have a text editor?

I need a text editor in Mac similar to Notepad or Wordpad in the PC. Is there such a thing?
    Thanks

Use Pacifist on your original Install disks (DVD or CDs).
I assume you know what you are doing editing an .ini file; never done it on a Mac but common practice in Windows world. What you could do is copy the file to a separate folder, then rename the original "profiles.txt", work on it, then rename it when done back to "profiles.ini" - that sort of "trickery" has worked for me in the past.

  • Does RESMAN have any command line parameters?

I've written a program that launches RESMAN on startup, but after RESMAN completes successfully, the RESMAN progress dialog doesn't dismiss itself, it waits until somebody hits the "close" button. I noticed that the T&M Explorer automatically dimisses the window when it's done, so I'm thinking there must be some command line parameters or switches that I can specify.

    ep138:
You can give RESMAN the parameter '-o' and it will run silently, and the user will not have to press the "close" button.

  • Does Indesign have a Split to Grid feature like Illustrator does?

Hi, I'm trying to split a rectangle into several boxes w the exact same dimensions. I can easily do this in Illustrator using Path>Split into Grid. How can I do the same thing in Indesign CS3?

You might get what you want by dragging ruler guides into approximate positions, being sure that the outside ones are snapped to the rectangle edges. Select all of the horizontal or all of the vertical guides at once, then open the align panel and use the distribute objects options to space them evenly. Be sure you have "Align to selection" chosen in the drop-down.

  • Mail rule to modify e-mail header (via external command line tool)

    Hello,
Apple Mail lets me add AppleScripts which will be executed whenever this rule is being called.
I have some command line tools that lets me add some information to the e-mail's header. For example, spamprobe (a anti spam tool, which works perfectly for me) would add an e-mail header like
    X-SpamProbe: SPAM 0.9999749 8aba943058c55bb20bd974fc534b71cc
or clamdscan would add (in combination with the command line tool formail) add information about viruses into the e-mail header, such as
    X-Virus: [clamscan] Heuristics.Phishing.Email.SpoofedDomain FOUND
After marking the e-mails, spam can be easily filtered out. Currently I'm using procmail to call all those external tools. They work much more accurate for me than Apple Mail's built-in spamfilter.
Now, however, I want to keep my mail on an IMAP server, thus, procmail does not work anymore. (procmail works only on local e-mails.) Is there any way to "stamp" incoming mails with Apple Mail by an external command line tool, leaving the mail at the end on the IMAP server? It should be the following workflow:
Apple Mail checks new mails and calls a rule on any e-mail which sends a copy of the mail to an external command line tool
The command line tool adds information to the given e-mail (e.g., virus or spam information)
Apple Mail "replaces" the e-mail on the IMAP server with the altered e-mail
Apple Mail calls another rule which filters all detected spam e-mails
Is Mail + AppleScript that flexible to include the use of external command line tools?
Certainly, an even better alternative would be to have a tool like procmail which could work directly on messages on IMAP servers. However, I'm not aware of any that could do that.
    Thanks for any comment.
    Claus

If you want to execute a command line as a mail rule you could define an apple script that executes the command line,
    for example
    tell application "Finder"
      do shell script "ls"
    end tell
    executes the shell command "ls"
For "ls" substitute your command line command.

  • Text Line Item to Quality Inspection

    Hallo,
Is there a way to have PO Text Line Items posting to Quality inspection by default?
    regards,
    Marco

    Dear Marco,
    Following Options are available
1)If you want to put the item always in Quality inspection irrespective of supplier , go to material master purchasing view tick the block for " Post to inspection".With this whenever material will be received it will go into inspection stock
    2) If you want to put a material for a particular vendor then in PO tick "post to inspection stock"
    3) You can also at the time of GR put the material in inspection stock with Movement 101 & in Drop down box select - Quality stock
I hope this will solve your problem.
    If useful pl. reward points,
