Does interactive form need acrobat 9 in EP 7 version ?

Hi,
After the portal was upgraded to EP 7, the adobe form stopped working for one of the components.
Its about opening PO details in adobe form and when the link is clicked, a red cross is seen instead of form or there is pop up to install adobe software. Interactive form is used in this web dynpro component.
This issue is not for users having acrobat 9 version.
I am looking for.
1) what is the difference betw interactive forms in web dynpro and non-interactive forms?
2)Is there any way to make this work without having to upgrade the adobe version for all the users ?
thank you in advace for any help

Dipti,
There is no separate UI element in NWDS. When you do a  right click and edit the Interactive Form element, you open another Designer which is called Adobe LiveCycle Designer, just wanted to clarify it so that you don't gfet confused between Designer and NWDS.
Now in Adobe Designer, after the form is opened, from edit menu option --> Select form properties --> Goto Defaults tab --> See what's the preview type. If its Interactive then that means your Form is Interactive and if its Print then it will be a Print Form.
Also as per my knowledge Web Dynpro is recommended for Interactive Forms, so whenever you develop a form in WD (JAVA or ABAP) it will most likely be Interactive.
Coming to your other questions, at least I have seen on Adobe Forums @ SDN that people have had problems with Adobe Reader 8.0, Reader 8.1.1 is probably the best bet.
Adobe 9.0 is also working as you mentioned but can you let me know what's  the version where the form does not work, as long as they have Adobe Reader 7.0.5 and above they should be good.
Just remove the ACF control as mentioned in note 846952 on the user's machine. Try opening the form once again, see if you get the prompt to load AcitveX installation and verify if you have done the necessary settings as per 1150277 and 766191.

Seriously, does it really need to be a new version EVERYTIME I launch Firefox? Is it that buggy? It's super annoying.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Asks me to update FIrefox.

Some different bugs do get fixed with every update, but most of the time you see an update it's because a security exploit was found.
And rather than wait a month or 2 months like Microsoft does, the Firefox team measures how bad the security exploit is and then based on that decides whether to release an immediate update or wait til the next scheduled release of Firefox, which is usually a month or more away.
This way you're protected from whatever the security problem was. And they usually group a couple of security fixes together before giving the new update. So you just don't get 1 fix per version.
So it's not like: Oops, found a security bug! Let's give everyone a new version now! Uh-oh found another one. Let's give a new version again right now!
Yes, it is a bit annoying to be asked to update so often but you can turn off updates if it really bothers you that much.
Although of course, there's like hundreds of Mozilla people that would advise against doing that. You know, security risks, and all that stuff. ;)

  • Creating an interactive form in Acrobat Pro 9.5.5

Can anyone advise if what I am planning is possible given the version I am using. I am using a Mac.
I am trying to create a briefing form for a design studio that will allow people requesting artwork to enter the relevant information (dates, page count etc.) and then for the form to calculate the number of days that it will take and the cost (based on a daily rate x number of days).
The form will initally be produced in InDesign CS5 and exported as a PDF and then edited in Acrobat Pro 9.5. Essentially, the form needs to be able to calculate date ranges (i.e. number of work days between two dates) and then calculate prices based on a daily work rate (which would be hidden to the user). I would also need it to calculate totals say based on the following example:
1-2 page document - allow ten days.
For every additional 2 pages add a day
"Is photography required?" If yes, add a day for up to 5 photos. etc.
Before I even attempt this, I need to know if it is even possible given the version I am using. If not, I will explore doing it in Excel, but I would far prefer using Acrobat.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible to do the calculations using JavaScript. The hardest part may be determining what's a working day and what's not. If it's certain days of the week (Mon-Fri) it's not too much of a problem, but it can get complicated if you have to contend with holidays or other irregular non-work days.

  • Editing online interactive forms using Acrobat XI Pro

Our organization recently purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro in hopes of using it to create and convert many of our forms to electronic format.  We recently tried opening an existing online interactive form to edit it and it says "This form cannot be edited in Acrobat.  Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form".  Did we purchase the wrong product for what we are trying to do?  I'm in panic mode because we are very new to this type of editing and I hope we didn't purchase the wrong thing.  Any suggestions?

There are two kinds of PDF forms: Acrobat forms and LiveCycle Designer
forms. The latter are actually XML files and can only be edited in
LiveCycle Designer, which used to be bundled with Acrobat Pro but is not
any more. If your forms were created in LCD then you need to purchase that
application as well if you want to edit them.

  • Is there a way to create an interactive form without Acrobat

Bottom line, is there a way to create an interactive form that can either be filled out and saved, or "submitted" with a mailto: button without having to buy a copy of acrobat too.
I have found numerous tutorials and examples, but everytime I try I run into the "action is not supported" error from adobe reader. Ironically, I have not problems saving a filled out form with OSX preview, but that won't work for PC users.
It seems like Adobe missed a step or is just forcing users to buy a secondary product to "re-save" a file with a form.

It’s not a failing at all. It’s just the way it is.
If you’d like to file a feature request you can do so here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Does a client need Acrobat 9 Pro, to use a form created with the program?

Do you need to have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, in order to use and/or view forms and portfolios created with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
If so, is there a free version that I can direct clients to download, so that they will be able to use and or view documents I am creating with Acrobat 9 Pro?

Will the user be able to save the form with the data he/she entered?
That depends upon if the file is specially Reader enabled. For some forms Acrobat Standard or higher is needed to file and save form data.

  • Using Adobe interactive forms in CAF

    Dear,
We're setting up the following flow :
1/ Adobe Interactive Form -> Enter data, press button, triggers webservice, starts GP.
2/ GP -> Does RFC call with values from form, returns different values
These steps pose no problem at the moment, but we're unsure how to proceed with the next steps. A new interactive form needs to be sent with the new data, which should then trigger the next step in the GP upon completion.
Is this possible, to do this and still stay in the same GP?
We can generate a form with an RFC call if necessary, I'd even prefer this, but then how do we know what to send back to the GP to stay in the same GP? Can we call a specific step in an existing GP to trigger the next one?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frederik-Jan

Basically this example described by SAP itself :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/c4/8d4a4273bb3830e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
The problem is, I haven't found the description of how to do this. Only that it's possible, which is little help sadly enough.
Example 1: Offline Form for In-Process Use
You can use such form to execute certain process steps offline and get data required for the next steps in the process.
For example, you can create a form that is sent to the processor by e-mail. The recipient enters the required data in the form offline, and submits it back to Guided Procedures (GP). The input data is then passed to the relevant parameters of the next action in the process.
To implement this scenario, you must:
    ·        Design an appropriate interactive form with input fields for all required data, and a Submit button that sends the information back to the GP framework.
    ·        Create an interactive form callable object with the following configuration parameters selected:
¡        Enable Use in Guided Procedures
¡        Create an Offline Interactive Form and Send it by E-Mail
    ·        Add the callable object to an action, and insert the action into the relevant block and process.
    ·        Consolidate the parameters, so that the output of the interactive form is mapped to the input of the next action in the process.
The predefined Check User block implements this scenario.

    Hello,
    As mentioned in other postings
in general the "usage rights" exception is caused by one of the following reasons:
    1) the needed credential file is not copied in the correct location
    2) you have registered the wrong password
    3) you didn't restart the engine after registering password
The correct location for your credentials depends on the SP of your ADS/WAS. Make sure, you have a matching configuration guide to your SP.
If you have deployed SP-12 or higher, it should be
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/AdobeDocumentServices/TrustManagerService/trust/credentials
Try these it should solve your problem.

  • Unable to submit an interactive form

    Hello Experts!
I have a problem submitting an interactive form, because I only get a <i>wait</i> message for minutes and minutes and nothing happens. There is no error message or something else.
The same problem starts if I want to upload a local saved interactive form.
I have checked my versions of:
    Adobe Reader (7.0.9)
    Java Runtime Environment (1.5)
    IE (6)
and every thing seems to be fine.
FrontEnd and ADS are integrated. ActiveX is activated.
I think it is a local problem with my PC, because the same interactive form is submitted instantly on my colleagues PC`s.
What can I do to fix the problem?

Most likely your local Reader or xACF installation.
SAP advises to use Reader 8.1 as several bugs are fixed in this version.

  • Need help with Adobe Interactive Form Saving

    Hi Gurus,
I need your help with Adobe Interactive form saving.
I have written the code in pre-save event to prompt a message when user didn't enter any value before saving. The form data should not be saved upon clicking save (Just prompt the message and exit form the form). Can u please advice me how to do this.
    Regards,
    Srini

    see the link: http://forms.stefcameron.com/2008/04/
    it says:
preSave: Failed validations will not prevent the form from being saved however Acrobat/Reader will issue a special warning message, after issuing the validation error message, to inform the user that the validations failed. Iu2019m guessing this is because the user may be saving the form to continue filling it at a later time so the save canu2019t be completely prevented.

  • Does a person need Adobe Reader in order to use a fillable PDF form?

I have created a fillable form using Acrobat XI and I find that some persons are unable to use it  while others are.  Does a person need Adobe Reader to use the fillable  form?  If so, how easy is it to download?
    Thank you

    Hi kenmilw,
Reader is an excellent, and free, option for your recipients who need to fill out your form. It's easily downloaded from www.adobe.com/products/reader.html. You can also use the Fill & Sign service on Acrobat.com to fill any PDF form.
What troubles are your recipients encountering? And those who do have trouble--how are they filling out the form?
    Best,
    Sara

  • Reader-enabled form from Acrobat is retaining interactive form fields when user saves the form

This is an issue that has only recently come up. In the past it was not a problem to take a pdf, add interactive form fields to it in LiveCycle, then open the form in Acrobat and enable usage rights for Reader users.
This allowed Reader users to fill out the form and save the results. With the most recent versions of Acrobat and Reader the user saves the form and the data AND the interactive form fields are saved in the resulting file - meaning that the data is still there to be changed. Clearly not what we want and not what Acrobat and Reader were doing previously.
The form does properly display "You can save data typed in this form" when opened in Reader.
I have got no response to this issue in the LiveCycle forum, and nothing shows up in a search. I would very much like to fix this, as it is affecting our entire library of pdf forms.

In most instances the form is linked on the website, so the original form will cannot be overwritten.
In some cases we have to supply an interactive pdf for a department that they will then distribute by email to various groups who are expected to fill the form out on submit on an ongoing basis. That is what I was meaning by the user filling out the form, printing it, and then being prompted to save changes.
The bigger issue is that most of our users expect to take a form hosted on the website, fill it out, and then save a pdf copy of their responses for reference. The reference copy is retaining the interactive fields rather than printing as a static pdf.
If I could force the action of printing as a pdf (rather than saving as a pdf) on submission I think that would solve the issue. The script for most of the forms in the library is xfa.host.print(1, "0", (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); and I am not aware of a way to force the print to only be to the pdf print driver.

  • Interactive Forms within an Acrobat Portfolio--- why not??

    Hi,
I have a student asking why she isn't able to save a group of interactive forms within an Acrobat Portfolio, and have the Tracker recognize the responses to the form. Sounds as if this shouldn't be a problem. But...
I've tried it myself, and it appears that when working from within a Portfolio, I have no access to the "Distribute Form" command. Is this correct or is it a bug?
If I skip the Distribute Form option and instead upload the Portfolio to Acrobat.com, I *am* able to fill out the form and hit "submit". It *does* submit a reply to my email address, in the typical .fdf format. When I go to my email address I can download the .fdf file to my local machine, but after that the system seems to break down.
TheTracker has no clue that any response has occurred. And when I try to "compile returned forms", the .fdf  files are not recognized: I cannot import the response.
Is it because there was no "Distribute Form", that the Tracker doesn't recognize responses?
It would seem like the most useful thing to be able to send a variety of forms to new employees in the Portfolio format. Can it be done? And how?
Thanks! I hope someone can help, or at least clarify. The student will be back tomorrow and I'd love to have a reply for her.

Hi "critter_monster" It is by design that the distribute options is not available for files that are in a Portfolio. You can only distribute forms that are not attached to a portfolio. Since tracker only tracks forms distributed the the distribution workflow, it is expected that it would not recognize the .fdf from the submit button.
Adobe does have a "wish list" form that you can submit feature requests through. You can always submit a request for that functionality. The form is here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&promoid=EWQQL
