Does iPad 2 WiFi Really Have No GPS???

The tech specs page shows no GPS on the Wifi model, is this true? If so that is absolutely ridiculous, why would they leave out the GPS from the WiFi model???

iOS devices with GPS use what is called assisted GPS because there are situations when GPS devices cannot connect to a satellite. A-GPS uses cellular towers as part of the system. A wi-fi only iPad does not have this capability.

Does Ipad-2 wifi  model no MC769LL/A Support Sim card ?

No, none of the wifi-only iPads can have a sim card inserted. If you have an iPhone then (if your carrier supports it) then you use that as a personal hotspot for the iPad, or you could get a mifi device and use that as a mobile hotspot for it.

  • Does iPad mini Wifi come with GPS

GPS is very important function of device like iPad but it is not listed on tech-specs of iPad mini wifi version. Is it true that it does not come with GPS?

    A mini-education...
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide signals that allow GPS receivers to calculate latitude and longitude information.  Navigation software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once every two years).  The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver.  The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.

  • Does iPad mini with G3 have GPS?

My iPad 2 doesn't have G3 and that means it doesn't have GPS either (I guess the two features were on the same chip). Looking at the spec for the iPad mini, I can't work out if I can get GPS at all as it doesn't seem to be mentioned. Does anyone know?

Technically speaking Assisted GPS tends to be more accurate in locations with lots of obstacles between the device and the satellites, such as buildings or tall trees etc. In wide Open areas the line of sight to Satellites makes this not necessarry.
    Wikipedia wrote:
"Standalone" or "autonomous" GPS operation uses radio signals from satellites alone. A(ssisted)-GPS additionally uses network resources to locate and use the satellites in poor signal conditions. In very poor signal conditions, for example in a city, these signals may suffer multipath propagation where signals bounce off buildings, or are weakened by passing through atmospheric conditions, walls, or tree cover. When first turned on in these conditions, some standalone GPS navigation devices may not be able to fix a position due to the fragmentary signal, rendering them unable to function until a clearer signal can be received continuously for a long enough period of time. A fix may take as long as 12.5 minutes (the time needed to download the GPS almanac and ephemeris).[2]
An assisted GPS system can address these problems by using data available from a network. ...
    Assistance falls into two categories:
Information used to acquire satellites more quickly [Mobile Station Based(MSB)]
It can supply orbital data or almanac for the GPS satellites to the GPS receiver, enabling the GPS receiver to lock to the satellites more rapidly in some cases.
The network can provide precise time.
Calculation of position by the server using information from the GPS receiver [Mobile Station Assisted(MSA)]
The device captures a snapshot of the GPS signal, with approximate time, for the server to later process into a position.
The assistance server has a good satellite signal, and plentiful computation power, so it can compare fragmentary signals relayed to it.
Accurate, surveyed coordinates for the cell site towers allow better knowledge of local ionospheric conditions and other conditions affecting the GPS signal than the GPS receiver alone, enabling more precise calculation of position.
    You can read more here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS
Techncially speaking A-GPS is the kind you want if you need very fast and accurate positioning in places where obstacles may inhibit or reflect the signal causing noise and location distortion.  Again like in a big city with very tall buildings.

  • Does iPad 2 WiFi /3G (AT&T or Verizon) have a sim card slot?

I wonder if iPad 2 WiFi/3G (AT&T or Verizon) has a sim card slot?
As already i have my sim card that i use in my current ipad WiFi/3G & would like to transfer it to the new iPad 2 WiFi/3G (AT&T or Verizon).

I've been having the same yet different issues... I can connect to WiFi at home no problem but I come to work and the iPad 2 can see the WiFi connect but only get the IP address and subnet, nver the router or DNS require to get on line. I have a iPad 1 andhad the same issues but the last iOS update fixed that issue but when I got the iPad 2 same issues arose. I tried for a couple of days getting on work WiFI (WEP encryption for quest/employee web access) and I noticed I had my iPad bluetooth active, no connected. I turned it off and immediiately got online. I doubt most users are having the EXACT same problem as me but this was a very simple solution that fixed my WiFi woes.
    Cheers!

  • Does ipad 16gb wi fi have internet or do i have to get the 3g one?

hello does ipad 2 16gb wi fi  has this got internet connection? or do i have to buy the one with 3g? this is for my father who is going blind and he could use this to check his emails and ebay etc
this is for a fathers day present

I'm sorry to make this confusing. you are in Australia I assume? If your hub is a wireless hub the WiFi iPad will work. From what you are telling me, both of computers have to be connected to some device in order to access the internet. With a WiFi connection which is the way the iPad works - you need WiFi.
I can take my laptop anywhere in my house and it is not plugged into any device and I pick up the wireless internet signal from my router which is connected to my cable modem. Same thing with the iPad. No wires - no cables - nothing plugged in and I get the internet. Unless you can connect to the internet without being plugged into some sort of device, you better ask before you buy the WiFi only iPad. I just can't determine if you are using a WiFi network in your home with the information that you have given me so explain your home setup to whoever you talk to before you choose your iPad.
If whoever told you that you need 3G is someone that knows your home internet setup, then they are probably correct about which iPad you will need.

  • IPad 2 wifi, can I get GPS from my iPhone 4 to tether?

    I have a new 16G iPad 2, without GPS.
I'd like to use GPS for maps and for flying. My iPhone 4 has a GPS and I would like to tether the iPhone to the iPad for GPS information.
No, my hotspot does not communicate GPS co-ordinates, regardless of what people think.

Are these photos which you have taken with your iPhone? Do you have iCloud? PhotoStream, which is a feature of iCloud automatically shares up to 1000 photos between all of your devices without you needing to do anything....
I am not aware of a way to transfer photos from an iPhone to an iPad via Bluetooth.
    Cheers,

  • Do all iPad Wi-Fi + 3G have the GPS Card?

Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but I'm looking at purchasing an iPad for many different uses and a big one would be as a navigation aid since my old GPS was stolen when the truck was stolen. I got the truck back in 24 hours thanks to Lo-Jack but the GPS was gone so I figured instead of getting just a GPS I'd get an iPad for work and other uses, like to entertain myself during my weekly 4 hour chemo treatments.

  • Does IPad 2 have a GPS

Does IPad 2 Retina Desplay have a GPS?

The 3G/4G iPads have a built-in GPS chip, the wifi-only models don't (though there are some third-party GPS units that will work with them).
The iPad 3 and 4 have retina display, the iPad 2 doesn't.

  • Add movies to iPad over WiFi that are already purchased

Hi - I am considering whether to purchase a 16gb or 32gb. I do not plan on have more than 4 HD movies on the device at a time, with a dozen or so plus apps, and a few books(mostly Kindle books). I was wondering if it is possible to download movies from iTunes wirelessly via WifI that have already been purchased. For example, if I am away from my computer for a few days is it possible to delete movies off the iPad and then install new ones that have already been purchased over Wifi. Additionally is it also possible to purchase movies on the iPad over WiFi that have not already been purchased.
Thanks in advance for the comments and advice.
    -J

For example, if I am away from my computer for a few days is it possible to delete movies off the iPad and then install new ones that have already been purchased over Wifi.
Not without paying for the movie again, and the same applies to music.
An exception to this is with 3rd party apps. You can re-download a 3rd party app from the app store with your iPad or with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.
Additionally is it also possible to purchase movies on the iPad over WiFi that have not already been purchased.
    Yes.
