Does iPhoto 11 upload high resolution Facebook pictures?

When uploading pictures from the Facebook website it gives you an option to upload pictures in high resolution.
My question is does iPhoto 11 upload pictures in high resolution or does it use the 'normal' Facebook resolution option?
Thank you

Hey I have the same question.
I uploaded an album using iPhoto images although I uploaded them using Facebook.com and they look wonderful. Now I went the lazy route and used just iPhoto to upload to facebook and the images all look blurry and distorted. I think it doesnt upload it the way it should which should be High-Quality. When you use facebook.com it allows high quality but iPhoto doesn't even mention it sadly.

Does iPhoto '11 post to Facebook using its new High Resolution feature?
    (I haven't bought '11 yet so I can't test it myself.)

In my test, yes a larger file was uploaded. However, if you call this "high resolution" when it's still compressed smaller than it was, and almost all the metadata - including colour information is stripped out - then you've a pretty low setting for "high" resolution. Put it this way, it will still print very poorly.
FWIW, I had none of the issues described above.

  • Aperture has not been updated to support new higher-resolution Facebook images

In August facebook changed the maximum dimensions of a photo from 720x720 to 960x960 (http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=10150262684247131). Much like the last time they upped the resolution of photos on Facebook, Aperture didn't get updated to accomodate this change for months. As I understand this isn't some long gradual rollout -- all FB users can now use 960x960 images, and seeing as this is probably like one line of code to change, I'm just wondering if we'll be waiting months and months again to take advantage of this. In the meantime there's little reason to create FB albums through Aperture since you're forced to use lower resolution images.
Anyone know how to perhaps modify Aperture to make this change while we wait for a proper update?

Totally understand your first point. Some photographers want to protect their work. Thing is, some don't. It's just a hobby for me and I know I won't be making any money on it. People like me just want to put up the best version of a picture FB will allow us to. Perhaps Aperture should allow the user to CHOOSE the resolution of the image that gets uploaded.
Facebook has, for the past while (long before the 960x960 change in August) allowed users to "download" the image, typically at a much higher resolution than what is displayed. The difference is that up until August, images viewed on facebook only displayed at 700x700. Now that's been upped to 960x960.
Upon some re-testing I do have to eat my own foot. I just created a new FB album through Aperture and they are showing up as 960's instead of 700's. However all my older albums still show the images at 700x700 (something FB said would change automatically, since they technically already have much larger versions of these photos to resample to 960x960). It seems you have to force an update by editing the image so it gets reuploaded.
So in conclusion, foot has been inserted into mouth.... though it'd be nice if I could simply "re-sync" my older albums to have them display at 960 without having to fool aperture into reuploading the whole thing....

  • Need help : how to upload high resolution pictures

Hi, can anyone help me out with this. whenever I'm adding any pictuers to my site they looks kinda cr*py. the reason it because it's resizeing the image to a much smaller resolution.
    question :
    1. how do I upload a full res. image?
    2. also if anybody knows how I can prevent people from downloading those images?
    - thanks in advance
    Maruf

Maruf ~ Welcome to the discussions.
    1. iWeb > Preferences > make sure +“Optimize images on import.”+ is deselected.
    2. It may not be possible to prevent people from downloading your images — but you can watermark them. Let me... Well, see for yourself by clicking here.
Another trick is to place a transparent, borderless Shape over your images.

  • How can I upload high resolution photos to MobileMe Web Gallery

Since upgrading to the latest iPhoto edition when I upload photos to MobileMe many of them appear as KB rather than their original MB, even though I choose the highest setting in Advanced before publishing. I did not have this probelm with earlier versions of iPhoto. Paul

Further to my last post, when iPhoto commences uploading, it says uploading thumbnails, despite me checking the "actual size" option. Can anyone advise how to get full resolution photos on MobileMe Gallery using iPhoto '11?

  • My Aperture 3 library menu shows me that some photos, which are high resolution professional pictures, are less than One Mb file size. Are the full size masters held elsewhere, and if so how do I get to them ? You've guessed I,m a newbie - please help.

In Aperture 3 and using File>Get Info, I'm told that many photos, which are 7+ Mb's are only One Mb or less. Are the full-sized masters held elsewhere, and if so how can I get to them. You've guessed I'm a newbie - just 2 months with Apple and I'm very confused - any advice would be gratefully received.

You should probably have this thread moved to the Aperture Discussion group and you’ll find lots of useful tips in the threads there:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/aperture
Are you looking at these sizes within Aperture using the metadata view or inspecting them outside using the Finder and Show Package Contents?
I am wondering how you are importing the pictures from your camera?  When you import from your camera, the right side of your display window will have a lot of options that you can select to grab your images from the camera.
Does your camera shoot RAW+JPEG?  If so, you may not be importing them correctly and only picking up the JPEGS.  You can import them so they stay together or separate them.  The master images are all at the Project Level whereas the views you see in Albums for example are aliases that point back to your Project.
Here’s a good Aperture web site (I have no financial or other interest in this site) to help you using Aperture:
    http://aperture.maccreate.com/
This article talks about RAW and JPEG images:

  • Why does iPhoto create multiples when importing pictures?

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    iPhoto version 9.6
I have a new MacBook and I am attempting to import pictures to iPhoto that were created by various devices - old digital cameras, scanners, iPhones.  The original images import without trouble, however iPhoto is creating an extra THREE pictures for each ONE that I import.  Please see the attached screenshot of my iPhoto after importing a few folders.  Take for example the Bowl for Kids folder - you will notice that the original folder has 20 pictures, and it is followed by an additional folder with 60 pictures.  The same situation is repeated for each folder.  The additional folders all share the same name - "d312a08daf7d..." and have EXACTLY three times as many pictures as the previous folder.  I have verified that the pictures contained within are indeed triplicates of the originals.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I did not import an existing iPhoto Library.
Starting with a completely empty Photo Library, I navigate to File > Import to Library and select a single folder (Bowl for Kids).  This folder has 20 photos in it, however iPhoto imports 80 (20 originals and 60 multiples, as evidenced by the screenshot).  I then repeated the process for the other two folders.
The photos shown in the screenshot were taken from various devices many years ago.  None of the above were taken on an iPhone.
The photos reside on my MacBook hard drive under Users > Worgowan > Documents > Pictures and Videos.  I chose to place them here to keep them separate from the native Pictures folder.
To answer an inevitable future question, here are some settings from my iPhoto Preferences.
    > iCloud > My Photo Stream (OFF)
    > iCloud > Photo Sharing (OFF)
    > Advanced > Importing: Copy Items to iPhoto Library (OFF)
    > Advanced > Edit Photos (In iPhoto)
    > Advanced > Use RAW when using external editor (OFF)
    > Advanced > Save edits as 16-bit TIFF files (OFF)
    > Advanced > Look up Places (NEVER)
    > Advanced > Include location information from published items (OFF)

  • Does iPhoto export original or edited picture

    Hi gang,
This is the kind of question that can be figured out through experimentation, but I would rather just hear the answer than mess with pics, etc.
I know that iPhoto keeps a copy of the original pic if you make alterations. When you export a photo (using the Share .. Export command), does it save a copy of the original to the selected location, or does it save the edited version?
    Cheers,
    Phil

To make sure run a test by converting a photo to sepia and export that, both by dragging out of iPhoto to the desktop and by the Share->Export menu route. I get only the edited versions with either method.
However, rotations do not get exported if dragged from iPhoto to the desktop but will if exported thru the Share->File Export menu option.

  • Does iPhoto 5 Work With TIFF Pictures ?

I always thought that iPhoto worked exclusively with jpegs and that if you imported any other format it would be converted to jpeg.
I was therefore surprised when I imported some TIFF files and they remained full size TIFFs.
Can anyone explain or shed any light on this?
Was it jpegs only in earlier versions?
    Ian.

    Thanks Niel.
I actually found a book with the answer a couple of hours after posting but could not use my computer to let people know.
I am now wondering where I got this firmly held belief that iPhoto only worked with jpegs - normally I use Photoshop, but have recently discovered that iPhoto does some things a lot easier!

  • Is there a way to take a high resolution image, and trace it in a lower resolution?

Layers appear to need to be all in the same resolution, so I'm thinking layers are out. Is there any other ways to do this?

    Hi Trevor, thanks for responding!
Basically, my goal is to use a higher resolution image as the basis for pixel art, but underlaying the higher resolution source picture under a much lower resolution layer, and "trace" out the basis for the pixel art on top of it. I suppose it would be a bit like onion skinning, but I'd need the two (layers? canvasses?) to be of radically different resolutions to accomplish what I'm trying to achieve. It's not a "size" issue, as I'd want the top to be the same physical size as the bottom, just have the top be, let's say 64 pixels by 64 pixels, and the bottom image to be 800 pixels by 800 pixels.
If that doesn't make sense, let me know, and I'll have another go at it!
    Thanks very much!

  • How to fix lost connections to original high-resolution pictures in iPhoto and how to import an iPhoto Book from one iPhoto library to another

    Hi there,
I am using a MBP Pro with 8 GB cache and 1 TB HDD from beginning of 2011 with OS X Yosemite and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
I created an iPhoto Book to print which contains my best pictures of 2013 and 2014. Then I got an error message when I wanted to print the book, saying (translated from German):
    Book could not be created.
With photo p233432343.jpg there was an error. The original version of that photo with full resolution could not be found or is damaged. Please replace the photo or delete it from your book.
When I enquired further, I found out, that many, many pictures in my iPhoto library have that problem - only the thumbnail picture is found by iPhoto, but not the one with the high resolution. When looking at the photos in detail one sees that they are not sharp because obviously the photo book only refers to the thumbnail. When I went into the iPhoto Library using Finder, I saw that the original high res photos are still there. As there are an estimated 3000 photos with a lost connection (some still have, it but about 1/2 of my photos don´t), it does not make sense to import those photos manually. This photo book is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say.
Then I looked for solutions in some forums. I had two lPhoto libraries, one on my HDD (120GB) and one on an external HDD (175GB). Assuming there might be problems, I have deleted (moved) the one on my HDD, because the "right one" is the one on my external HDD and started iPHoto again using the alt key. But that did not work either.
I then tried to repair my iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, and merged and rebuilt libraries. The library that came out was crap - all folders that had lost connections to the high resolution pictures now have zero photos in it. Also it is lacking the projects, including the photo book I created.
Then I went to find out if there is a way to import the iphoto book project from the old, corrupt library into the new, repaired library but could not find anything. It can only be exported as a file structure or website. As the file structure is missing the high res pictures, that does not even solve the "little" problem of the photobook.
I would REALLY appreciate your help on the two questions:
1- Can you advise what I need to to do to to get the connection to the high resolution photos established again  ? As it is more than 3000 photos, I use an automated way of reestablishing that connection. Probably an answer to this question would make question 2 irrelevant.
2- Do you know if there is a way to export and import a book project created in iPhoto from one library to another ?

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

You actually need to give information to get help - just stating an abstract problems (which is most certainly not a problem at all) gives the volunteers hearer nothing to work with to help you
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? What exactly is the problem (iPhoto does support the resolution of your camera so that is NOT a problem)? what exactly are you doing? What error messages do you get? why do you incorrectly think that iPhoto does not support full resolution?
At this time your question is like my car won't start - why not? Could be anything from you did not put the key jun to being out of gas to having the engine stolen - no way to tell anything - except that the problem you claim is not true (at least in my example I would know that the car did not start)
