Does iPhoto 5 still work fine with Snow Leopard?
I don't want to give up iP5 because it still let you print N-up on a page (e.g. 4, 9, 16 images/page) and that seems to be gone from iPhoto'08/'09.
I was going to ask how you found N-up printing and in checking through the print dialog I discovered you have to select a print size which is different from how it was before. So you pointed me in the direction that helped me find an adequate solution in the event that iPhoto 5 becomes unusable in the future. iPhoto'08 doesn't print quite the same as iP5 so I'll still hang onto iP5 for the odd job but '08 is definitely more usable to me for printing now.

My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1
I have tried everything, even buy new external disk from different manufacture.
If I cant get a fix soon, I am downgrading back to SnowL.Still no luck. I tried all the tricks, reconfiguring TM (remove selected disk option, and re-setting it, and trying different disks). Tried new combo updater, and the newer TM update after that. Tired two different disks too (one is my older firewire WD MyBook 1TB, and my brand new 3tb Seagate GoFlex USB... either one plugged into back of computer - no intermediary devices). I did get the TM buddy wiget and it produced the following log, from the last attempt, where I setup lots of exclusions so that backup quantity was small (under 10gb). Still it failed to complete. Here is that log, for what it is worth:
Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/TM-Disk/Backups.backupdb
9.56 GB required (including padding), 911.15 GB available
Waiting for index to be ready (101)
Copied 0 files (0 bytes) from volume Mac HD.
Backup canceled.
To prove a point, I will take these disks are run them on my other Tiger and Snow Leopard laptops to prove TM works fine on those with these disks. But I fear the only options are to either have my tech re-install LION... or just have him reinstall SL instead. Im at wits end. -
Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??
I recently upgraded to Lion and now cant see my Windows 7 laptop in network? Or see my macbook Air 2010 on my win7 laptop. Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??
You're not addressing Apple here, you are addressing a user based community. An Apple employee may read your post but he/she will not officially respond to it.
You didn't say if your networking is Wi-Fi or USB Dongle based so I'm assuming Wi-Fi in this response. If you do a search of the forums you will find that quite a few are having Wi-Fi issues with Lion--things that worked fine with Snow Leopard are flakey or don't work at all with Lion so your problem may be another instance of the Wi-Fi issues in Lion. If not, then perhaps someone with knowledge of your specific issue will post. I see my other Macs (MBP, 24" iMac, 27" iMac all running Lion) fine but I don't have a PC to test. -
I have a 2009 iMac and a mid 2007 Macbook. I also have an HTPC running Windows 7. I can connect fine to the HTPC from either the iMac or the Macbook, however, I am completely unable to connect to my Macbook or iMac from my PC. This was never a problem prior to upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard. Please be advised that I know how to set my network up and have tried everything possible. I upgraded my iMac to Lion first and noticed the problem. After checking my settings I was stumped. I noticed that my PC could still connect to my Macbook running Snow Leopard. I then, today, installed Lion on my Macbook and replicated the problem I was experiencing on my iMac. Any suggestions?
The same happens to me!!! Any help out there?

[Edit: It should be FF 3.5. I mistyped FF 3.15]
I have MAC OSX Snow Leopard. 10.6.8.
FF 3.5 [apologies; I mistyped 3.15] worked perfect with Snow Leopard. NO problems.
But '''everything''' after that, till FF 8, crashes left and right.
Facebook crashes the most within few short seconds.
And NO different language websites even open.
I read online to use Safe Mode and try. I did. No change.
I read online to reset font cache or or something using atsUtil from the Terminal. I did. Nothing.
It is super frustrating. Same problem in my wife's Mac as well.
Should I stop using FF? I heard Chrome is good.

Will the newest version of Safari Mavericks work properly with Snow Leopard?
Will the newest version of Safari Mavericks work properly with Snow Leopard?
Are you asking if you can install Mavericks on a machine running Snow Leopard?
Upgrade to Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Application Compatibility
You can also check which applications are PowerPC by going to the menu, select About this Mac, click on More info…, then click System Report and select Software/Applications.
If you do decide to upgrade, make sure you do a backup before installing. -
I have a MacBook White, early 2009 model, just downloaded/installed OS X Lion. Everything worked well with Snow Leopard - Mathematica, pogo.com games. Now, with Lion, I am getting a box that states I need J/Link, and/or java runtime. Software update feature states all software is up to date. Help.

What about the incredable lag time from clicking on a program to the time it opens (or the time till the loading screen starts)? I wish I could record it and play it so I could see if thats normal from other members... the icon just sitting there for over 35 second (I just counted 36 till the loading screen popped up) at first I thought it was me not clicking hard enought cuz the mouse button I have is real stiff (any ideas on that?) but no it takes that long just to get to the app loading screen... this happens every time same amount of time with the 3 programs I use the most, prolly more but I know for a fact world of warcraft, uTorrent, and Google Chrome. I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

Does iPhoto 11 works together with a NAS?
Hi folks,
does anybody know, if iPhoto 11 works together with a NAS, or does the iPhoto library still needs a MAC journaled HardDisk format?
Kind regards,
MichaelI'm going to say no, none of my libraries have worked over a network very well or at all (lightroom totally blocks it). depending on your format (RAW, TIFF, JPEG), a NAS isn't fast enough to work from usually, unless you have apple supported hardware running fibre channel.
best bet is to get a decent external drive & use the fastest interface you can (I use firewire 800). another option is to have or do it yourself hard drive upgrade.
I may try this anyway, my copy is to be delivered tonight. -

Printing problems with Epson R2880, works fine on Snow Leopard
I have 3 iMacs running Snow Leopard which comes with driver version 8. These can print just fine to the Epson but as soon as I connect it to my Mac Mini running Lion it refuses to print. I get this error "Printing has been canceled because the paper source selected in theprinter driver does not match the paper loaded in the printer."
This is nonsense, I only use A4 and A3 but both refuse to print, furthermore there is no paper setting on the driver.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Been googling like mad but while I have seen others with this problem I have not seen anyone with a sollution. I can print just fine to other printers. Have started from the emergency partition and repaired permissions, re-installed latest combo update, and even downloaded the whole epson update from Apple, no dice.
Help!First, the error message is probably telling you that the paper source or paper requested does not match what has been loaded in the printer and has been selected in the printers menu. That means you might have chosen the wrong paper when initially loading the printer. This printer relies on the user to chose the proper media when loading and then to match that when setting up to print through whatever software printing the file. Open the queue in System Prefs, Printer, Queue and delete the job that is stopping the printer; close tab. If the printer is stuck on the job, go to the printer menu and cancel job.
Be sure that you have installed the proper driver. If in doubt, remove the printer from the Printer list in System Prefs. Download the newest driver software from Epson, install and add the printer in the System Prefs, Printers. The correct driver should say something like "Epson SP2880".
PS.... have the printer's manual handy. It has most of this in there. -
IDVD not working right with Snow Leopard...a possible fix
I was having the following issue with iDVD and my new fresh install on a new hard drive of snow leopard 10.6.4:
iDVD would open to the screen where you chose what you want to do
I would click create a new project and get to name it
Nothing would happen but I knew the program was still running. I could see it in the activity monitor
I would go to quit iDVD and it would ask me to save changes and the beach ball would start spinning and I would have to force quit from the dock
Then I found this post after looking litterally all day for a fix....these instructions worked for me and my iDVD is now working normally...
(1) Go this folder:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Framew orks/
(2) There should be 3 aliases there:
ImageIO.framework
ImageKit.framework
QuartzComposer.framework
(3) In my case, the QuartzComposer.framework was actually a folder. I removed this and created a new alias to
/System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzComposer .framework
After making the new alias, iDVD now works just fine. Not sure why this frameworks folder had become damaged like this. I am hoping that there are no negative effects on any of my other applications, but I've kept a backup of the original folder just in case.
I moed the quartzcomposer folder to 2 levels back and made an alias and put it in the A/frameworks folder and viola...iDVD worked for me! I am a happy mac user nowThanks, had exactly the same problem.
Switched to administrator
$ su adminusername
Navigated to the folder
$ cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
Listed the contents of the folder
$ ls -le@
Renamed the folder QuartzComposer.framework
$ sudo mv QuartzComposer.framework/ QuartzComposer.framework.old/
Replaced with a symbolic link to the correct framework
$ sudo ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/QuartzCompose r.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GraphicsAppSupport.framework/Versions/A/Frame works
iDVD works!!! -
IWork is all white and doesn't work properly with Snow Leopard
Whenever I open Pages or Numbers 09, everything is displayed as white. The text colour is black but I can't see the blinking text mouse icon (which looks like I). I can open templates and can only see the text when I highlight it otherwise the screen is white and I cant even type in a blank document. It all worked fine until I installed Snow Leopard.
I had similar problems with iMovie and iDVD 09 with transparencies not working. Could this be a problem with the graphics driver for my Nvidia 8800 GT? Or is there another way to fix it?Apple's instructions are:
*Transferring files from one account to another on the same Mac*
*You can use your Shared folder:*
1) Log in to the account you wish to copy files from.
2) In the Finder, navigate to the Shared folder. It is located in the Users folder.
Copy any files or folders you wish to the Shared folder, such as items on your desktop, in your Documents folder, in your Music folder, and so forth. You may be asked to enter an administrator password when copying certain items. Note: To ensure that you copy items (as opposed to moving items), hold the Option key as you drag files to the Shared folder. Depending on item permissions, some files or folders will copy by default, some may move by default.
3) Log out of the current account.
4) Log in to the new account (that you are transferring files to).
5) In the Finder, navigate to the Shared folder. It is located in the Users folder.
Copy any files or folders you wish from the Shared folder to the desired locations, such as desktop, Documents folder, Music folder, and so forth. You may be asked to enter an administrator password when copying certain items.
And I'll add an additional step and a warning:
6) Having copied the files to the new account, Get Info, and change the ownership of them to your new account name. The easiest way to do this is to select each folder inside the user folder (ie Documents, Pictures etc). These should have the permission set properly to the new account owner. Click on the gear icon and select Apply to Enclosed Items
The Warning
It is safe to copy the contents of your Documents, Pictures, Music, Movies and Sites folders but since the problem is likely to be inside the user Library folder it isn't a good idea to copy it. You can probably safely copy your Safari bookmarks (not the entire Safari folder), Calendars, and Mail (but open the folder and delete the Bundles folder inside because it contains Mail plug-ins which might be the problem). I'd be very leery of copying any more than this since doing so might copy the problem into the new user folder. I often copy a one or two items from the Library folder at a time, restart, and then if all seems okay, copy a couple more. But I never copy the Preferences which means re-serializing a lot of programs and one or two programs might need to be reinstalled. The Applications Support folder is another one that may not be safe to copy over, but then again may be. It is one that I move into my new Library folder a couple folders at a time.
In short, moving items into the new account via the Public folder is, itself quite easy though you do need to be sure to that the ownership gets changed to the new account. As I said, the data is easy and safe. The Library is where the problems tend to be.
Incidentally it might seem easier to keep the old account and just moving the user Library elsewhere since that's where the problem is living. I've found that it isn't such a good idea for a number of reasons. Copying to the new account may be more time consuming but safer and in the long run better. -
Raid slice missing on mountain lion works fine in snow leopard
I am running fiber from a adtx raid directly in 2 machines one running snow leopard the other running Mountain lion.
on the mountain lion machine, when i go to disk utlity i only see one of the raid drives and the other one says missing. However when i use the snow leopard
maching i see the raid fine and it works correctly. We are using the same fiber channel cards and we use sanmp to mount the drives.Your problem is that your old HD is no longer blessed. if you can, connect both drives at the smae time, then
First, open the “Startup Disk” preference pane and select “Mac OS X” as the operating system to boot. This will re-bless your Mac OS X volume on the older install.
No need to delete or zero the drive at all.

Iphoto not working after installing snow leopard
My hardrive crashed while I was living in South America so I got the authorized mac dealership to put in a new one. Once I got back I was able to get all my photos and files from an external hardrive but I realized that my computer software was still 10.5.8. So I put in the Snow Leopard disk that I had bought because I realized that when they put in a new hardrive they didn't install Snow Leopard. After I installed Snow Leopard my iphoto now says "Caution The iPhoto Library folder is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." How do I fix this? I called Mac and because I bought the computer in 2007 I do not have any applecare so that will cost me $60 and the mac authorized dealership told me to call them or buy the new iLife in hopes that the problem will be fixed.
See if one of the fixes in this topic helps: iPhoto becomes locked volume: Apple Support Communities

Epson R800 does work well with Snow Leopard
Three machines.
MacPro and MacBook Pro worked from get-go after installation of new Epson drivers (check Epson site for new drivers) with Epson R800 and R1800 on firewire.
Old Intel iMac did not work until I disconnected firewire and tried USB. Then all became sweetness and light. Thanks to a suggestion in this forum. Some of the previous users had success when they restarted after deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Caches/Epson folders. You might also try deleting the /Library/Cache folder. There is a solution posted from someone at Epson:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10909012#10909012
Substitute 2880 for RX580:
Make sure that you have completely removed the Stylus Photo RX580 driver, then install the new driver from System Update:
1. Power off the printer
2. Open System Pref. and Print/Fax
3. Highlight the RX580 printer
4. Click on the ""-"" sign
5. Close Print and Fax
6. Open your Mac's Hard Drive
7. Open the Library Folder
8. Open Printer and delete the EPSON Folder
9. Open the PPDs folder find the Epson Stylus Photo RX580.gz and delete the file
10. Close the PPD and the Printer folder
->11. In the Library folder, open the Caches Folder
->12. Delete the Epson folder
->13. Restart the Mac
14. Power on the printer
15. Click on the Apple Icon and System Update
16. Follow the directions to install the new driver
Hope this helps.
