Does iPhoto import the pictures from those miniature cameras you see in sto

Hi,
I have seen the miniature cameras that are sold in a number of stores. They are small and cost $20 to $30.
Does anyone know if the pictures on those cameras are any good and if they can be imported into iPhoto?
Thank you

With those cameras you get what you pay for — really crummy pictures — if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, you get less, or nothing at all. At least some of them require proprietary drivers which are only offered for Windoze computers; Macs won't recognize such a camera or import pictures from it. My recommendation is to avoid the cheapies and buy a real camera. If you have access to a Windoze PC and want your seven-year-old to have a camera, and you won't mind if it's incompatible with your Mac, you're exactly who those cameras are for.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How does iPhoto treat the "Pictures" folder

I usually import my photos from my iPhone or iPad.  I plug them in, iPhoto pops up, i import the photos and erase them from my mobile device.  That way I leave space in my mobile device.
But I was recently sent a few pictures via email.  I have them in a folder called Estancia which I have placed in my Pictures folder (the one created by OSX automatically).
However when I open iPhoto, those pics are not displayed.  Obviously since I havent imported them into iPhoto.
My question is, how should I do that?  If I import the folder, wont I have 2 copies of the same picture (one in the Estancia folder and another inside the iPhoto Library-folder)?

Import the folder normally; by default, you'll then have two copies of the photos, and can then delete the copies in the Pictures folder if desired. You should back the photos and entire library up as well.

  • I have photos in a DVD. In order to visualize them in iPhoto, must I necessarily import them? Can't I see the pictures from the media without importing? If not, is there any application with this functionality? I dont't like pre-visualization for photos.

iPhoto is a Database. Before it can work with any data it must be imported to the database, so yes it is necessry to import them.
Can't I see the pictures from the media without importing?
    See above.
If not, is there any application with this functionality?
Hundreds. Any image viewer will do the job. On your Mac the Finder has QuickLook and there is the Preview app as well. Online you can download any of these:

  • Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

  • Does iPhoto update a gallery from the changes to the album?

When I create a web gallery I first create an album and drag photos into to. I do this in part because I also use my Apple TV to play a slideshow of albums. When I publish a web gallery of an album it uploads it just fine.
But when I add a photo to the album, it doesn't make the change in iPhoto to the gallery or online. Do I have to make the changes in both locations? That seems like extra work. Doesn't iPhoto update the galleries from the albums that created them?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Only photos added to the actual web gallery in iPhoto will be added to the online gallery when updated. The album you use to create the gallery is not connected in any way except as a convenient way to group the photos initially and start the gallery. You don't need an album to create a gallery.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I imported some pictures from my cameras memory card to iPhoto and now i want to transfer them back to memory card

I just got my iMac and I just wanted to copy some pictures from my camera's memory card to my computer. turns out 'importing pictures' meant totaly removing the pictures from my memory card. How can I transfer the pictures back to my memory card?
    More info:
I used Dynex Compact Memory Card Reader and put my memory card in it to connect to the usb plug
    I have a Canon Camera
    I am using iPhoto

    Hi.
FYI and future reference, importing pictures does not have to mean removing them from the memory card or camera.
When you plug in a memory card and open iPhoto to import your pictures, there will be a dialog box that opens and asks if you'd like to "Keep" the imported photos on the card, or delete them.
Apparently you selected the option to delete them.
In any case, in order to move them back to the card, you *should* be able to plug the card into your Dynex reader, after which the card should mount and display on the desktop. Then, open iPhoto and simply drag the photos from there and into the memory card.
You may need to recreate the file and folder structure on the card so the camera can find the files when you wish to view them.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • I uploaded pictures from a second camera and my iphoto created a second library, how do i get back to the first library?

I uploaded pictures from a second camera and my iphoto created a second library, how do i get back to the first library? Can anyone help?

I have no idea what you did or what happened - but I can assure you that loading from a different camera does not create a new library
So you need to supply information and someone here will assist you in sorting this out and figuring out what you really did
What version of iPhoto do you have? What version of the OS? Why do you think that a second library has been created? What do you see when you launch iPhoto with the optipon kep depressed and use the select library option? Where is your iPhoto library normally?
Anything else you can tell us that might help?

  • Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my address book after importing the files from my Power mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • My Photoshop Elements moved my pix from iPhoto but the picture names have been lost???

I installed  a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 yesterday.  I had been using iPhoto and had literally hundreds of pictures, each with an aphpa-numeric names.  I imported the photos from IPhoto into Elements 12, but there are no longer identifying names on any picture.   Where are the names?  There is a column of numeric file names in [Organizer] along  the left sides - which mean nothing to me.  I have tried every button I could find and searched the Photoshop Elements for Dummies for a possible solution.  I asked two friends familiar with full blown Photoshop and they are perplexed.  So am I.  Has anybody any useful suggestions?  Thank you

If you used the "from iPhoto" command, you made duplicates of your iphoto library photos. Just delete them and then decide how you want to proceed. "From iPhoto" is to be used if you decide you want to use the elements organizer exclusively and not iphoto anymore, but you don't have to do that. You can make a small test catalog with just some photos from iphoto, or you can set up PSE as your external editor from iphoto, or you can export photos from iphoto to the desktop, edit them in PSE and then reimport them back to iphoto as new images.
Which would you like to try?

  • HELP   Upgraded to IPhoto 11 from IPhoto 8 and none of the pictures from the old library are showing in the new one.

I upgraded my IPhoto 8 to IPhoto 11 and now none of the pictures from my previous albums are showing in the new version.  I hope someone has an answer to help!

Since the iPhoto First Aid didn't help try this:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
