Does iPod recycling discount apply to iPhone purchase?

I have two older iPod Touches that I plan to upgrade to iPhones. Has anyone else tried to get an Apple store discount on the new purchase of an unlocked iPhone 5 when trading in an older iPod touch?
Per http://www.apple.com/recycling/ipod-cell-phone/,
"Bring your old iPod to an Apple Retail Store and receive a 10 percent discount on the purchase of a new iPod.* "
The little asterix states:
*Restrictions apply. Please see http://www.apple.com/legal/sales_policies/retail_us.html for more details."
But the linked sales policies do not provide any detail about products elgible for the discounts.
Searching the web, I discovered that iPhones are excluded from the Australia store recycling program:
"*10 percent discount does not apply to iPod shuffle or iPhone."

Sorry for the non-tech related question but I received a 10% off discount card from Apple a couple of months ago and I was wondering if I can use it to purchase an iPhone 3G at the Apple store?
I've heard that you can't, so I just wanted to confirm.

The fine print on the card should detail how the card can be used and what the exclusions are.

Why does iPod play without prompting on iPhone?

This happened to my previous iPhone (3G) and now to my new one (version 4.2.1 14GB). Also happens to my friend's older iPhone (3G).
Here is what happens: iPhone is sitting on center console - not connected to bluetooth (n/a in my truck). I faintly hear music playing, look down and the phone is playing music via iPod. This happens inconsistently, but has happened a number of times. I was shocked to see new iPhone do this too! All iPod settings are set to "off".
Anyone know why this happens?

My sister's does the same thing and none of the usual steps stops it. It does not do it enough to bother her, so she just quits the iPod app or if she hears it presses play, she did not think it serious enough to replace her phone.

If yours is in warranty, and this is causing battery problems for you, I would make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store.

Does ipod nano automatically pick up new purchases when I plug it in to the computer?

When I bring new music into my itunes library the song is checked. will the nano automatically pick up new purchases when I plug it in again? Or do I have to start over? I hit sync again but not sure whether I have to do that every time I charge it.

Depends on how you have your iPod set up to Sync. For example if your iPod is configured to sync only checked songs and videos, make sure each new track you add to iTunes has a tick mark next to it. The next time you sync your iPod (assuming it set up to automatically sync), the new tracks will be added.

For example, if I have deleted an app off all my devices, do I need to go into purchase history on each device to download it again, or is there a way to automatically download it to all devices?

Thanks for the question. It sounds like most of your music was purchased from the iTunes Store. If your country supports iTunes in the Cloud, you can download your past purchases using this article:

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

Go to Edit > Preferences > Store, and uncheck the box for "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases."

It should. I don't see why it wouldn't. It all depends on the quality of the headphones though. You should borrow one from someone who has it and test the headphones itself (music, calls, and other features)

How recently did you switch? If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account. The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices. I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...
