Does it always take hours to download a movie through apple tv when renting a movies through itunes?

This is dependent on your network connection. Check www.speedtest.net
6mbps is required for instant HD rentals
You can switch to SD in the settings if on a slower connection

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netfix uses adaptive streaming, if you have a slow connection it will reduce the quality of the video, iTunes ensures you get the quality you pay for.

VangieChuck the problem is definitely not iTunes it is your ISP download provision. Either your ISP needs to make a service call and solve your bandwidth issues or you need a better service, granted it all depends where in the world you are located. In Kappy's and my neck of the woods we are use to 5 - 250 Mbps download rates with an average of about 25 mbps for most city dewellers. Upload will vary depending on your service.

1080P has a large file size but are there ways to get it to start to play faster?
Hard wiring it into the LAN helped a bit but what is really slowing it down? WPA2?
    Thanks,

could be the wifi speed as in 56Mbit vs. newer 300Mbit version
or interfearing from other wifi networks which use the same channel
or microwave or dect phones which also operate on the 2.4Ghz band

  • My itouch is gone, 2g, so no locator.  Can it be tracked by checking to see if apps or music have been downloaded on it through the apple store or itunes?

My itouch is gone. 2g, so no locator.  Can it be tracked by checking to see if apps or music have been downloaded on it through the apple store or itunes? Does Apple know what specific device is downloading an app, etc. or by IP address?

Apple will not help you track/find your Pod or report anything special to you. If you get an email saying that something was purchased with your iTunes account then that indicates someone is using your account.  You should report it to the police and change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.

  • Why does it take hours to download a movie on Apple TV?

Recently I rented a movie on Apple TV, but it took ~5 hours to download it to my chagrin. Is that normal? Later, I down loaded my second movie rental (3-hours), watched a portion, came back to resume viewing, and had to slowly down load it a second time. Wha' hoppened?

What is the actual speed of your conection (www.speedtest.net)
    8mbps required for instant 1080P
    6mbps for 720P
Check istumbler or netstumbler for network interference
Make sure you're on your ISPs DNS

  • Why does Apple.tv take hours to download a movie rented through iTunes

I have rented a movie from ITunes and have changed the video resolution in iTunes Store to 720p HD but taking over 5 hours to download.  Is this normal as I am finding it very frustrating?  I have a Telstra Bigpond ADSL wireless connection.

That would be dependent on your network

  • Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie

Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie on apple tv?  Is there a solution??

What kind of internet connection speed do you have?
If you have 3Mbps DSL like I do, and are renting movies on either Apple TV model in HD Format, then it will take quite a while. Actually 3 Hours for an HD Movie would be failry fast here at my home. They are just large files. If I'm going to rent an HD movie, I will usually rent it earlier in the day and watch it when I'm ready.
If you have an adequate internet connection, and just want to rent movies on the fly and don't care about HD, on the AppleTV v2 you can go to Settings / General / iTunes Store / Video Resolution... and select Standard Definition. With our 3Mbps DSL connection, when we rent a movie it is generally "Ready to Play..." within about 2 minutes at the most (enough time to grab a beer and get comfortable)
As far as I know, Standard Definition movies still show on the same menu as the HD version with the ATV v1. I preferred that menu format myself because you didn't have to change the option in settings when you wanted to go back and forth.

I have an 80 Mbps internet download connection and it took 5 hours to download a movie with standard definition from itunes with my apple tv.  It took 3 minutes when I used netflix on my ps3.  Where is apple supports response to these issues?....there are thousands of posts of people with the same problems!  Speedtest.net confirms my download speed is 80 Mbps!  I have reset and restarted my apple tv and download speeds of movies are still unacceptably slow!  What is the point of these discussions when Apple techs don't even read or respond to our posts?
Not using OpenDNS by any chance?  Using OpenDNS has caused issues as some Apple server access gets re-routed to slow servers (Akamai servers from memory).

  • HT4623 How long does ios 7 take time to download ?

How long does ios 7 take time to download???
For my ipad mini it says 28 hours and my iPhone 4S it says 68 hours!!!
    Why???

    Diavonex:
My apologies.  I meant to say iOS 7.02, but I guess my wishful thinking for 7.03 being out there got in the way.
BTW, it took me the better part of 1/2 hour to install 7.02 over top of my existing 7.0 iPad 3rd-gen installation.
Some suggestions (if not outright hints and tips) for everyone when you upgrade your iPads:
Make sure you keep at least about 1-2 GBs of free space on your iPad AFTER installing iOS 7 or later, otherwise you may risk seeing your performance suffer big-time.
I like filling my 64 GB iPad bucket with apps, and shortly after I finished downloading a couple of really HUGE games to fill that remaining 3.5 GBs of space that I had after upgrading from iOS 6 to iOS 7 (notably, Asphalt 8, Megapolis HD, etc), things REALLY started to slow down, and, most importantly, SCREW up, leading to crashes if I opened apps, crashes and restarts just updating apps, even crashes if I swiped to unlock and change a few basic settings
Hoping some of these performance issues will be addressed in a future iOS 7.1 upgrade, or, at least, we see recognition and guidelines of where this water line should be from Apple.  My guess is, if they do this, they will get about one gazillion articles from the Apple journo community, not to mention a boatload of complaints.
My gut instinct is saying at least about 1-2 GBs is where this presumably critical operational waterline is, but depending on your iPad, your mileage may vary, so this is just a heads-up and to keep an eye on your usage and storage stats if you see your performance take a hit without warning.
My current solution: Start deleting apps until you get back to that 1-2 GB free zone level.  I didn't even need to restart to see my performance improve to something approaching enjoyable, if not tolerable.
