Does it cost me to RECEIVE sms?

Hey,
I just signed up for the unlimited US & Canada subscription. I am aware that it will cost me to send sms. Does it cost me to RECEIVE sms? I would like to know before I give the number out to everyone! Thanks a lot!
Mena

I have had to contend with this issue before. You cannot recive messages to to your online number, you can set in tools>options>sms options to set your mobile number for the caller ID for texts. You should not be charged for this but your deal with the service provider might charge you for this.

Should I purchase an online number, how much does it cost to receive incoming calls from landlines or mobile to my Skype online number?

    Hello,
It costs nothing to receive a call to your Skype #. As it is simply a regular landline # the caller pays whatever his/her carrier charges to call that #.
TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

  • Why does skypein numbers not allow receiving sms?

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why skype has never done this, very useful function.
I AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS WOULD LOVE THIS SKYPE. WHY CAN YOU NOT PLEASE DO IT FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!!
SMS IS EASIER THAN VOICE !!!!
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why skype has never done this, very useful function.
I don't have the definitive answer for your question.  It is possible that Skype is not able to receive SMS messages because Skype does not operate a mobile phone carrier - or does not partner with mobile carriers in different countries, as Skype does with other non-mobile carriers for services we currently have.  I was told in another part of these community forums that SMS messages can be received on German landlines, but this appears to be a rare thing compared to most of the world.  Skype's numbers are usually set up to work like regular landline numbers or - in some countries - may be a special class of number (nomadic or VOIP, for example).
Subject to government regulations in the different countries, Skype would have to partner with mobile phone carriers in different countries, and then have the ability to issue Online Numbers that would appear to the telephone network to be either mobile numbers or special numbers that have the ability to receive SMS.  Between the technical and legal hurdles Skype would have to go through, it is possible they are very happy with having the online numbers that work for receiving voice calls.  (For some posting all over these forums, there are some countries that Skype users would be very happy to get an Online Number for voice calls - Canada comes to mind)
Approaching Skype Customer Support, instead of these community forums frequented mostly by other Skype users, may be a good thing.  Then you might be able to get an answer from Skype directly.  No guarantees, of course, but you'll never know if you don't try.
    Good luck!

Hi There, I want to know if it costs money to receive video calls from other skype users? as I have an important call in two days and I need to know if I have to pay to receive a call via skype? I will be using my computer on my home wifi network. Thank you

you will not be charged for receiving video calls (the same goes for initiating one-on-one video calls).  Unless your ISP charges it's users for incoming traffic.

Have you tried the VoiceAssist utility? I don't know if it does texts...you may just want to get the new 4S, since Siri can send texts.

  • I have just received a new phone how much does it cost go on internet

i have just recieved a new phone how much does it cost to browse the internet on pay as you go on the old orange monkey tariff?

You actually have to go through extra steps of setting up your phone as new, updating and then erasing and restoring from that back up.

  • HOW CAN WE GET SKYPE TO ALLOW RECEIVED SMS?

hey yall friends, moderators, and hopefully someone from the actual skype company.
what is the deal? why are we not able to receive sms texts (except from people with smartphones who can do mobile to landline text to voice features)?
can we somehow come to a compromise, a creative solution. it is just stupid to be able to send sms messages but not receive them. people even send them back and they go nowhere, thinking they communicated but we never receive anything.
if we have bought an online number and a subscription doesnt it make sense we should be able to receive text? that was one of the first features of skype original.
what is the blockage that is stopping this easy feature from being included? is it that phone companies charge the recipient company (skype) for texting? and skype doesnt know how to deal with that, or want to? i think even if you charged us .11 cents to receive, we would all do that. you could even make an SMS subscription to pay for costs.
if skype is going to continue to grow as a company and as a useful feature. this is the next step. i hope we all understand and appriciate that.
again, 1 way SMS is just non-functional and barely-useful. communication is a two way street. please let us make something happening.
here i am planting the seed.
    ~e

That is also my request.  I'm using TextPlus on my Android phone to send and receive free SMS messages. (Yes, it gave me a free phone number.)  However, I would rather just use Skype with an online number to send and receive SMS messages.  And SMS needs to be free.  With Skype's other paid services, free SMS should be possible.

  • Problem sending/ receiveing SMS on a particular port in an intercarrier n/w

I am using JSR 120 to send & receive SMS on a particular port. This works perfectly between 2 devices using the same carrier.
if I try sending & receive inter-carrier SMS, like from T-Mobile device to Cingular device (or vice-versa), my j2me app does not receive any SMS on the port it is listening to.
When the SMS with a port is sent from my app, I get the prompt for permission to send. On pressing OK, the SMS is sent. On the receiving side, the device on the another carrier network receives the SMS in the default inbox, & not by my app.
I am not sure if this is a inter-carrier SMSC issue or something to do with my app.
    Pl help.

Has anyone come across the above mentioned problem? Pl let me know if there is any solution.
Question simply put : When a j2me sms midlet sends an sms on a unique port to another j2me sms midlet listening on the same port, but served by a different carrier (cellular operator), why does the sms go to device inbox & not to my midlet?
    Thank you

  • HELP - not receiving sms on android after using ichat

For the past 3 months, I have lost the ability to receive SMS texts about once a month.
The first time it happened right after I sent somone an ichat on my ipad. Up until then, I had not used ichat for about one year, which is when I went from an iPhone to an android (and I have not used it since then either). I did some research online and found some suggestions on how to fix the issue. A few forums suggested removing my cell phone # from my Apple Support profile. A few others said to change my apple password. I did both and my messages started coming in about 3 days after they stopped.
About 3 weeks later, I stopped receiving them again. I looked at my Apple Support profile and found that my cell phone # had been added back in. Thinking that maybe Apple has some job that runs every so often and repopulates information on blank fields, I removed my cell phone # again and entered a bogus #.
Couple days ago I stopped receiving texts again. I looked at my Apple Support profile and found that the bogus # is still listed so that was not what fixed it the first time.
I have called ATT (my carrier) repeatedly and they have tried to trouble shoot my problem with no success. They suggest that it's only something that Apple can fix. I have also called Apple and they suggest that it's an ATT issue. No one has been able to help me. It really surprises me that this is not a known issue with a fix.
So here is the problem in a nutshell:
I am not receiving sms texts on my android, from anyone at all.. doesn't matter what kind of phone they have or who their carrier is.
    I DO receive mms texts.
All of my texts are going through no probelm.
Does anyone have any clue how I can stop this from happening every few weeks? I want to stick with my current phone until the next iPhone comes out. Any leads on this issue are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!!

How much does this cost? & I still can't understand how this work

    Hello mkopti,
ePrint is a free feature include on most of our wireless printers that are e-all-in-one enabled. It allows you to register your printer on HP's website http://www.eprintcenter.com and create an account. Once an account has been created you can enable the web services feature, after connecting to a valid network with internet access, which will print off a registration code you can use to add the printer to your account and customize an email address for the printer. This allows you to print to the printer from virtually anywhere simply by sending an email to the printers email address and when it is received it will print.
Most of these printers are also Airprint enabled meaning you can print locally from the same network on the iPad, iPod, and iPhone (version 4.3.2 and higher) by using the built in "Print" command in the idevices.
If you have any other questions or need clarification feel free to reply to this post and I will try to answer any questions you have.

  • Does it cost to send ...

I'm using my computer to send a sibling a text message and then he sends the text message back to my email address. He has the Unlimited Text plan....does it cost him anything to send that to my email or receive it from my email?

Is it also no charge if you send a picture to an email address? I have unlimited text as well but I am not sure if that applies to sending photos to an email address too. In this case, I'm sending pictures to an email address so they will upload on facebook...
    thanks!
Nope since a texting plan is text, pic and videos it's all under texting as long as you have a plan comes out of your texting plan and if you have unlimited even better.    To send back from computer to phone you use [email protected]  You can also make and send 30 sec. ringtone clips to your phone that way to use.  We have  data blocks on our phones anyway so we can't use the internet. if we wanted too but it still allows us to send and receive pictures.   Mary

    Hi
There is no need to develope mobile application for
    sending SMS from the PC.
n general, there are two ways to send SMS messages
from a computer / PC to a mobile phone:
Connect a mobile phone or GSM/GPRS modem to a
computer / PC. Then use the computer / PC and AT
commands to instruct the mobile phone or GSM/GPRS
    modem to send SMS messages.
Connect the computer / PC to the SMS center (SMSC) or
SMS gateway of a wireless carrier or SMS service
provider. Then send SMS messages using a protocol /
interface supported by the SMSC or SMS gateway.I would like to know how do you set up the whole thing. What are AT commands and Where do i get thm and how do i use them. i am sorry for asking so many question but i am really interested in knowing this. I am doing my school project which requires me to send sms from my PC.
    Please help!!!!
