Does it drain the battery to charge before completely empty?

No, actually draining the battery completely is worse for it. Batteries will only charge to what they need. You can see this for more answers. http://www.apple.com/batteries/

  • Does 4G drain the battery more than 3G with the iPhone 5?

Hi im due an upgrade and im thinking about getting 4G, but does it drain the battery more than it does with 3G with the iPhone 5?

the phone can handle it or else it wouldn't be supported. it can also handle LTE which is even faster than 4G in most cases

  • After it's first charge, does the battery need to be completely empty

I bought an iPhone4 today, and was told to use the phone and let the battery completely run out prior to it's 1st charge.
However, on turning it on, it has 3/4 full battery and says I need to connect it to iTunes before I can use it, unless I want to make an emergency call.
I don't want to ruin the full capacity, but then I don't want to find that I'm still waiting for the battery to die in 3 days!
    What can I do?

Ignore what you were told. The iPhone battery has no memory effect, charge whenever you like. You cannot overcharge, as charging automatically stops when your battery is full. Read more here:

  • HT4060 Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone to help the battery last longer?

Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone or iPod Nano to help the battery last longer?  I took a class at Verizon and they said let it drain completely and it would last longer.  Thanks

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

Power Adapter Does Not Charge the Battery and Charge Light Is On?
My power adapter doesn't charge my computer anymore. however the charge light is on.
Please help my battery is draining fas

So, with your power adaptor connected not only does the battery not charge but the powerbook is not running on ac power. Then I guess the power adaptor is faulty. In as much as you've verified this with a known good one a new one is in order. Try yours in another powerbook to make sure.

  • My iPod was updating to iOS 6 and i shut it off during the update because it was taking too long and now my screen in baby blue i've tried to drain the battery but when i plugged it in to charge the blue screen came back on.I dont know what to do

My iPod was updating to iOS 6 and i shut it off during the update because it was taking too long and now my screen in baby blue i've tried to drain the battery but when i plugged it in to charge the blue screen came back on.I dont know what to do

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Should I drain the battery of NEW iPad to 0 before fully charing it or not?

I am first time New iPad owner and I like to find out if i should complete drain the battery on the new iPad before giving it a full charge or just charge it right out of box for a better battery life in the long run. I think i read it somewhere that I should fully charge a NEW iPad for a better battery life, but I forget if i should drain all the battery (my ipad already has 92% battery life when turned on) on it before charing for the first time or just charing it right away for a full charge.

If it needs charging then charge it. Don't worry about it. There's nothing specific you need to do.

  • Does leaving the bluetooth on all the time drain the battery?

Does leaving the bluetooth on all the time drain the battery?

In my experience, the impact is minimal, especially on something like an iPhone 5S. Mine is on all of the time because I use it all of the time, mostly for my Pebble Smartwatch but also for headsets and speakers.
    Best of luck.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

Most USB port do not supply enough current to charge the iPad.

Wow. I have not seen that question nor a discussion. I agree with James. I don't think it will, and if the power drain is different, maybe it'll be less and not more.
With a 10 hour battery, you have plenty of time to test it and see. If the battery depletes fast, just go back to the other way.
If you do try it, let us know what you discover.
    Thanks ! !

  • Sleep mode draining the battery (Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013)

    Hi everybody,
I have the following issue. I have the newest Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) with 16gigs memory. When I put in is sleep mode then it drains the battery with between 6% and 20% in 8hours. Powernap is turned off, according the logs in Console it only wakes up sometimes for hibernating (it woke up for 3times from 10). So it goes to sleep every time I close the lid, nothing is using the CPU.
Apple states it has to keep up in sleep mode without fully draining the batteries for 30days, so it should consume only 3,3% per day. We all know it can be more or less but, if you do some math you can easily figure out for example: 8% drain in every 8hours is 24% per day. So I could only keep it in sleep for four days (don't tell me, I should turn it off, that cannot be the solution for this problem).
If the macbook is turned off there is no draining issue, just in sleep mode...
By the way, there is no performance issue regarding the batteries I can use it easily from battery for 5-8hours.
Do you have the same issue like me with this model and/or what are the average rates for draining in sleep mode, could you do me some tests for me (please do not start from 100%, use it a little bit before use put in sleep)?
    Balazs

I've been trying to work on a fix aswell to this issue. I have had my Macbook Pro Retina for a week now and in sleep mode I was losing between 30% and 50% battery drain.
To test, I was charging fully before I slept and then I would review in the morning, or when I reached work. One occasion I had 37% remaining after around 12 hours sleep.
For me, I think I managed to find a fix, that I haven't read up on yet.
I downloaded Battery Health app through the App store, so I could check what was happening under the lid and also Memory Clean (both free). Before I put my mac to sleep I cleaned the memory, on starting the app it was 9GB remaining, I cleaned the memory three times and reached 13.36GB free.
I then put the mac to sleep and I have woken it up 12 hours later and I still have 100% battery remaining (95.5% through the "Battery Health" app).
Hope this helps someone out there it seems to have worked for me.
