Does it make a sense to buy  a new ipod touch now?

Is ok. to buy an ipod touch now or should I wait until some "software update" comes? I wouldn't want to pay additional 10$ or 20$ next month to be able to access some new features.

At first glance, I said whoa! But then I thought, I have my BlackBerry Pearl with T-Mobile and realized, well, since I got the phone for $0.01 in November and was required to have a data plan, hmm... I think Amazon had an agreement with T-Mobile on requirements of keeping the data plan for 6 months. And after reading the Wall Street Journal this morning, I further learned of the subsidizing AT&T is doing with this version for a change. That means that AT&T might one day allow the phone to be unlocked in contrast to the first generation iPhone. But come on folks, why would Apple or AT&T price the 2nd Generation iPhone at $199 up front? Hmm... Let's think logically. It's to attract new customers agreeing to a two year commitment! Do you really think you can buy the BlackBerry Curve with AT&T for $99 outright? No. Logic tells us that Scott's math is truth. So I give kudos to Scott for this. Those who don't understand this are the same people who think that if they lose their phone after 5 months, they get mad at the cell phone provider for not replacing the phone at the initial "cost".

  • If i buy a new ipod touch now, can i exchange it for the new version?

I am gonna get a new ipod touch 8GB as part of the education deal when buying an imac before the 7th sept. I am wondering if i can exchange it for one of the new ones when they are announced and in stores a week or two later? If i bought a macbook pro in store or online i know i can exchange it within 30 days (by paying a price difference to the new model) or get a discount (if the prices for the old model went down within 30 days of me purchasing).
Would this apply to the ipod touch too, if i get it through the education store?

Sorry, but the iPod touch from the Back-To-School promotion could not be returned nor exchanged. The promotion is actually a rebate (unless you're referring to a promotion other than in the US); you choose your qualifying iPod model and purchase it, and will then get a rebate back of up to $199 (it varies depending on the model of iPod you choose).
The US promotion applies only to specific iPod models and expires on September 7th, so it would not apply to any iPod model released after that date. For the full terms, see:

  • I would like to buy a new ipod touch; will I be able to transfer my smurf village from my old ipod to my new one?

I would like to buy a new ipod touch; how do I transfer my smurf village from my old ipod to my new one?

Yes.  Just make one final sync (it includes a backup) of the old iPod,  Then connect the new iPod to that syncing computer and restore the iPOd from that backup.  Also see:

  • My ipod touch has software 2.2.1 but all the apps now require newer software. It won't update because it says it's the up to date software. do i need to buy a new ipod touch?

I can't update my ipod touch software because when i check for updates using itunes it says the software is up to date. Does this mean i have to get a newer ipod touch or is there a way to manually update the software to the newer versions?

You probably have a 1G iPod.  See here:
    Identifying iPod models
The 1G can go as far as 3.1.3.  You can purchase that update here.  You may have to use another browser to get the sublink to work correctly.

  • Should I buy the 4g iPod touch now? April 2012

Hello. I am looking to buy a new iPod touch, but I need the latest and greatest. Now, here are my speculations:
The New iPad just came out, so I don't know when Apple is going to have their next event. I assume theier next even will be in about 2 months, and the invitation for this event will be about music. In the event they will announce all new iPods, including the new iPod touch, Nano, Shuffle, and maybe even the iPod Classic. (By the way, if they don't release a new Classic, they will end it's production line.)
The iPod touch will include a new 5 MP camera as seen on the New iPad, No A5 X Chip (The reason I think it won't get the A5 X chip is because Apple usually wants the iPhone to get the upgraded specs before the iPod, and the iPhone has not recived the A5X Chip yet.), and some other features like keyboard voice dictation. This new iPod will NOT have Siri. Thats all I can think of for speculations of the new iPod touch.
Can someone tell me if these speculations seem correct, or I'm speaking nonsense, and should not wait for the new iPod touch. The only thing I'm intrested in the new iPod is the upgraded camera, otherwise I would get the current iPod now. I want your thoughts, opinions, rumors, whatever... What do you think?

It's against the Terms of Use of this forum to speculate about future products and you agreed not do it when you signed up to the forum.
So even if we wanted to, we cannot add to your discussion. Quited frankly, what would be the point? If - and I stress if - a new iPod is ever announced, and it is missing any or all of the features you've expressed an interest in, you will simply be disappointed with it.
Feel free to post your thoughts in a non-Apple forum, but it's a waste of your time to do so here.

  • What to buy a new iPod touch, what about the bought apps?

I am thinking about changing my iPod touch first generation to a new one.
Can I transfer all my apps to the new item or do I have to buy them again?
    Who has experience here?

i've just done this. you just need to make sure you backup your old ipod touch first, then when you plug in your new ipod touch, rather than setting it up as new, restore it to the backup. as previously pointed out, as long as everything is in your itunes library on your computer it will just replace it all and your new ipod will look just like the old one.

  • Should I hold off on buying a new iPod Touch right now?

My 4+ year old first generation iPod Touch completely died about a month and a half ago. I am planning on buying a new one but I need some advice. Should I buy one now or is it worth it to wait another month until the new iPod Touch 5th gen comes out?
I don't particularly care about buying the 5th gen, I just am curious if you guys think there will be a big price cut in the 4th gen next month when the newer model comes out. Is there usually a price drop on the older gen models right when a new one comes out? I'm all about saving money lol

Seems 4g is going to stay the latest model for years to come kidding, coz u know they just keep mum about it. All they care is about their iPhone & iPad.

  • Will an Apple gift card (not an iTunes one) buy a new iPod touch?

I have an Apple Store gift card for $100 (this is not an iTunes gift card to buy songs with) and I would like to know if it could go towards purchasing a new iPod touch.

    Victor:
    Yes.  From http://store.apple.com/us/help/gifting:
There are three types of gift cards that you can purchase from the Apple Online Store: Apple Gift Cards, iPhone Gift Cards, and iTunes Gift Cards.
iTunes Gift Certificates are also available for purchase exclusively through the iTunes Store.
    Apple Gift Cards
Apple Gift Cards take the guesswork out of giving a gift. Your friends and family can choose exactly what they want from our huge collection of Mac, iPad, iPod, and accessory items at any Apple Store in the U.S. - online, by phone, or at an Apple Store.
How to Purchase Apple Gift Cards
Apple Gift Cards can be purchased from the Apple Online Store in any amount between $25-$2500 or over the phone at 1-800-MY-APPLE for any dollar amount.
Each card can include an optional gift message. Find out more in the Gift Messaging section of online Help.
How to Use Apple Gift Cards
Apple Gift Cards can be redeemed in any Apple Store, on the Apple Online Store, or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. Apple Gift Cards can be used only in the U.S.
In an Apple Store, simply present the card to the cashier at time of payment. If you are using your Apple Gift Card at the Apple Online Store or over the phone at 1-800-MY-APPLE, you'll need to provide the 16-digit card number and 8-digit PIN (to be scratched off). Remember to keep the card in your possession until your item(s) have been delivered.
You can use up to eight Apple Gift Cards at the Apple Online Store or if placing an order over the phone at 1-800-MY-APPLE. You can use up to six Apple Gift Cards for one transaction when you purchase at an Apple Store. You can combine your Apple Gift Card(s) with one credit card to pay for your purchase.
You cannot use Apple Gift Cards to purchase another Apple Gift Card, an iTunes Gift Certificate, or for purchases at the iTunes Store. To purchase music, TV shows, movies, and games, see the iTunes Gift Cards section of online Help.
Checking Your Apple Gift Card Balance
You can check your Apple Gift Card balance by visiting Your Account or by calling1-888-320-3301.

  • What if I buy a new iPod Touch?

Ok, So new ipod touch, I want to sell my current one on a popular online auction site,
    This is really 2 questions....
    a) What happens to the old ipod with software version 2, will the new person be able to use the software update or will they have to purchase it themselves, obviously I will restore the ipod to factory settings to clear my settings, music and apps?
    b) What about the apps I have purchased from the App Store, will I simply go to sync my new ipod and it will all sync over...easy as pie?
and in Advance, Thank You to anyone who has an insight to an answer.
    Cheers

    Hi tomuky2k,
Welcome to Apple forum, hope you enjoy being here!
    tomuky2k asked:
    a) What happens to the old ipod with software version 2, will the new person be able to use the software update or will they have to purchase it themselves, obviously I will restore the ipod to factory settings to clear my settings, music and apps?
As you bought the firmware, when you handle the iPod to other person, he will be able to use the version 2.0. But if sometime, he needs to restore, then this will remove the firmware 2.0. Also, that person won't be able to instal it again, 'cause he's not using your iTunes account and doesn't have the path file stored on your computer. So basically, he should need to buy it for himself!
    tomuky2k also asked:
    b) What about the apps I have purchased from the App Store, will I simply go to sync my new ipod and it will all sync over...easy as pie?
Yes, no problem! It will sync normally to your new iPod Touch, as it has with your current one.
Hope this helps and good luck on selling your Apple product!

  • Battery on brand new iPod touch drains when synced to a mac and now it won't charge. If you're thinking of buying a new iPod touch, don't bother. The batteries don't work.

The battery on my son's brand new 64G iPod touch drained while it was synced yo the mac. Now it says 100% charged when it's connected to a charger, but drops to zero as soon as it's disconnected. It would appear that, either the battery is faulty or the battery indicator is faulty. iPod batteries are not supposed to drain while syncing. And rechargeable batteries are supposed to recharge after they have drained. Maybe I'm missing something simple here, does anyone know what it is?

  • Should I buy the new iPod Touch?

So I've had my iPod Touch 3G, 8GB (considered 2G, though), for about 3 years now. It's still in good condition except for a few cracks in the screen, and a slower processing speed. It also quits apps unexpectedly, and other minor problems like that. My question is should I replace my old iPod Touch with the new one with FaceTime, HD recording, a camera, iOS 5, and iCloud, and other features?

the iPod touch 4th gen hardware ( the currently one is the 2010 model except for the new colour option ) is comparable to that of the iphone4 but with the major difference : iPod has 256MB of memory and the Backside camera has only 0,7Megapixels instead of the iphone4 which has 5MP. ( 4s = 8MP )
I have the iPod touch and am very very pleased with it. Aside from the "only 0,7MP" the camera creates brilliant HD Movies ( outdoors and in daylight ).  It runs the latest games and apps. I have yet to find a game that does not run on it. The display is the very same as in the iphone4 with Retina. Compared to the 3rd gen everything looks cripy and non-pixelated. You can even read small text without zooming into it.
It is also a perfect mini pocket computer for office use, if you buy the iwork apps ( Use them everyday in iPod ) .
It will also run iMovie and the new Cards.app and many many others.
And iOS5 is even faster then iOS4 .( to me it feels so ).
I recommend it. But it is up to you.
