Does it matter who i use to register a domain name?

thanks.

"How well do you know Bill Gates or Bruce Chizen or Michael
Dell or whoever
and their values?
Do you use the software or hardware that their companies
produce?
My point is merely that we all tend to pick and choose rather
randomly at
times. We live in an imperfect world."
that's a completely lame cop-out... that's like saying
'what's the point in not cheating on my taxes when i'm not 100%
honest in other parts of my life?". it need not be so all or
nothing.
do i use microsoft products? yes – i'm not happy about
it, but i do because i know of no realistic alternative. do i shop
in walmart? no, because living in nyc affords me many other
options. i've turned down lucrative projects for gun magazines,
divested myself of various mutual funds when i found out that one
of their holdings was sinclair broadcasting, changed my credit
cards to ones that give a percentage back to progressive causes,
etc., etc., etc. furthermore, if you told me that i could triple my
investment by putting money into philip morris, exxon, or pretty
much any prescription drug or insurance company, i'd tell you to
shove off.
true – we do pick and choose. but just because you make
one choice, it doesn't mean that you can't push yourself to make
better choices elsewhere.

Does it matter if I use a different computer that than the one I set up my iPad with.

Depends on what you mean by "use". An iPad can only be synced with one computer. If you attept to sync with another computer, you may lose all of your data.

I have registered 2 domain names . can I have more then one domain name on mobile me or icloud?

MobileMe ends here at the end of the month so you will need to look into hosting your website/websites with another webhosting service.
I personally use IX Webhosting for a couple of reasons:
Fast reliable personal tech support by phone, instant chat, & email
They allow unlimited domains "www.yoursite.com", unlimited email accounts, unlimited bandwidth
And, price they are very reasonable plans start @ $3.95 USD a month

  • Do I need to register a domain name?

    Hi,
I'm new to iWeb and have a simple question. Do I need to register my website's name or do I just type it in during the "Publish" stage?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You don't need to register your site name. If you want a domain name like www.mydomainname.com, then you'll have to purchase it and forward it to your site wherever it may be hosted. Where are you publishing to? If you're publishing to MobileMe there's nothing to do in iWeb but click use the File->Publish Entire Site or Publish Site Changes menu option.
If you're publishing to a 3rd party hosting service you will need to put in the relevant site and server information for that host.

  • Registering a domain name with google

I have created a website on iweb and use iweb to update the site.
I have my own doamain name www.anthonyheller.com and it is linked via CNAME to my iweb site.
My question is when I registered with google, should I use my personal domain name or did you use the iweb.me.com? I am hoping it will work with my personal domain name (obviously)
What I'm trying to ask is if I put the google verification code, sitemap file and a robot.txt file under iweb servers, can I register anthonyheller.com with google and all will be good?
Alternatively I would have to put those files where anthonyheller.com is hosted, which is not really being hosted, just acting as a re-direct.
I hope someone can answer this.
    Thanks a lot.

You use "web.me.com" and that will let your domain name point to the site in your MobileMe account. This document explains much of it: MobileMe Account Help

  • Does it matter if i use a Snow Leopard 10.6 or 10.6.3 disk?

is it possible to upgrade from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard or do I have to start from 10.6? I want to borrow a friends family disk but I want to make sure this will work with my older macbook.

As others say, buy your own.  The friend can only sell, or give you the copy of the operating system if they never made a copy of it for themselves, or for anyone else, and it is the retail release.  Neither 10.6, nor 10.6.3 gives you any operational advantage over the other, since neither has the Mac App Store or Lion upgradeability yet.    System Specific 10.6 or 10.6.3 discs should only be sold with the computer they shipped with, or to someone who has the exact same model/vintage, so long as the seller does not have a copy of the same disc for themselves and has not given it to others.    The point is, do you know the honesty of your "friend" when it comes to this?  The discs are very specific about the license that is carried with them.   For that matter, neither can you give it to anyone else, so long as you have the copy of it.  The basic gist is that the disc follows its only installed copy, and that's it, once it moves all other copies must be destroyed.  Here are the upgrade options for users going to 10.6:

  • Does it matter if I use Wi-Fi or Ethernet?

My iMac is right next to the modem for my internet connection.  It has Wi-Fi and an Ethernet so I plug it in.  Is there any benefit, improvement in speed or otherwise to plugging it in with the cable?
    Thx!

If a wired connection is available and convenient, as it can be with a desktop Mac, use it. Doing so will avoid all the potential problems with wireless networking.
Leave Wi-Fi enabled if your hardware is capable of AirDrop and you need it.
To give precedence to Ethernet, open System Preferences > Network, click the "gear" icon and select Set Service Order... Drag Ethernet anywhere above Wi-Fi, click OK and then Apply.

  • E72: Does it matter if I use MicroUSB or Nokia cha...

    Is the E72 indifferent ?
Obviously a nokia charger is included in the box, but is there any downside I should know about of using microUSB ?
My motorola microUSB charger seems to work fine

It takes more time to charge the battery with USB - thats all.
USB is specified for a maximum current of 500mA (Current) at 5 Volts.
The Stock AC-8E Charger produces 890mA at the same Voltage.
Considering the respective maximums charging with USB takes about 1,8 times longer than with the AC-8E charger.

  • Change hostname to registered DNS domain name in URL

    Hi all,
We have just new install of IAS 1.0.2.1
Now server is responding on the hostname fe: http://myserver. We have registered name of the domain fe. www.ourdomain.com and we want to apply it for our application server.
I know that I have to change httpd.conf file. What are next steps?
    Thanks Marcin

    Marcin,
Run the ssodatan script from the OS command line to associate your new domain with the portal and login server. Too see the paramaters/options required by ssodatan, run ssodatan without any options. A slightly more detailed explanation of ssodatan is in the Oracle Portal Configuration Guide.

  • Ram Upgrade Does it mater who makes the memory card?

    I have a 2007 20" iMac wtih at 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I am going to upgrade from 1 GB Ram to at least 4 GB and maybe as much as 6 or 8 depending on pricing?
Does it matter who manufactures the memory card?
    Thanks

The mid-2007 and Early 2008 iMacs officially can accept 4G of RAM (two 2GB modules); with newer modules made since Apple engraved the specs in stone, you can go to 6GB RAM (one 2GB +2 4GB) but no more.
The only brand issue I've encountered is that some Intel Macs using PC2-5300 RAM were rather unhappy with Kingston "Value RAM." The regular line fo Kingston was fine.
For the past decade, I've web-ordered all my Mac RAM (and we have 16 Macs in the family) from only two vendors. I have never had RAM go bad or received the wrong RAM from these firms. Then there is the added pleasure of their being among the lowest priced. Here are their listings for PC2-5300 for your iMac:
    Other World Computing:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo
    Data Memory Systems:
    http://www.datamemorysystems.com/_apple_info/Apple_Aluminum_Intel_Core_2_Duo_iMa c_20_2.4GHz_Memory_1467.asp
You don't show a geographic location in your profile (a very useful thing to include around here ) so I've listed US firms because that's who I use. If you are somewhere other than North America, let us know and someone may be able to provide resources local to you. The first firm I linked ships internationally with only a very "can't do" countries, but shipping and VAT may make it less attractive than a local source.

  • IWeb and using my personal domain name.

I have never published a web site before and this is a first time for me.
With having iWeb version 8 installed I have created a website with photos etc.
I have also registered a domain name to use my personal name. This is the one and only web-site I have published.
The name has been set up for forwarding with the CName as web.mac.com with the host site in the section of ‘Masked forwarding’
And in my personal settings in the account manager on .Mac the correct name has been entered to use for my iWeb site. For example www.anthonyjhowe.com which is my registered name.
In the iWeb application under file I have published all my pages to .mac.
In my iDisk folder on the Internet there is a folder named “web/sites and inside this folder, there is my gallery but also a folder named AnthonyJHowe, this has all my pages I created in iWeb.
There is another folder named “iWeb. But inside this there is one file named sites.rss, and that is all. This is replicated on my iDisk on my desktop.
Now in iWeb when I publish all to .Mac I receive a message that my site can be visited using my domain name and would I like to visit or announce the site. This lists all the pages I have published.
When I click on visit, it takes me to the .Mac welcome screen and not my site.
That’s how far I have got. It’s been over 72 hours since I registered the domain name.
I have searched and read some posts about this but I don’t seem to go any further with this.
Could you give some suggestions please and perhaps point me in the right direction?

This iWeb’s Domain Forwarding feature that has you publish the site to your .Mac account and then uses your domain name as an alias for your Web site should be relative simple procedure, but with quite a lot of posts on this subject, including myself is not easy to set up and it should be as iWeb 08 is a consumer product. There is little information about this at present.
Getting in touch with the registrars can be quite daunting and eventually you may get one person in the office that may be able to help you. Apple's information to suggest you contact the Registrar of you domain host to create a CNAME does not help an ordinary consumer either.
My issue with the Personal Domain feature is that it places the burden of making the switch on the user, and it is far from a straightforward process and my unfortunate lack of experience has led me to ask the question in the first place.
This discussion forum seems to be the only place that gets close to helping you out.
As it stands, the instructions from Apple are extremely vague, mostly advising you to contact your domain name registrar. They give no indication of what to expect or do if things that aren’t working correctly. And that's why a lot ask the question in the first place in this discussion forum. However those who have experience in dealing with these matters may not always see your post.
I can usually work out problems to do with computing, but to be honest this one has me beat and yet it should be and probably is a simple procedure to carry out. But there is either very little information to carry out the procedure or confusing information elsewhere that makes the mind boggle.
The link below is the only information I can find from Apple to help you, unless someone knows of other information.

  • How to I get my iWeb website online without a domain name and using iCloud or .mac....

I want to publish my iweb website online.  Since we no longer have mobile me do I use icloud, and if so how do I do it?

No, you don't and you can't do it because iCloud does not offer any web hosting facilities, so if you want to publish your website online, you'll need to go to a web host and register a domain name along with a web hosting account. Take a look at http://www.godaddy.com and http://www.hostexcellence.com.  Both these companies offer domain name registration as well as hosting accounts and there are lots of others too.

  • DNS Server does not resolve new generic Top Level Domain names- CNR configuration issue?

    Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the correct community to post this question, but I will give it a try. I noticed that the users of my network cannot resolve web sites using new top level domain names, like ".education", ".international", etc. I have an internal DNS server made by Infoblox and a Cisco CNR v6.3.3.1 as an external DNS server. Infoblox uses CNR as its forwarder and CNR uses the root DNS servers for queries.
I would think that CNR was the problem because it is an obsolete product but after speaking with a fellow engineer at another organization where they still use an older version of CNR than mine, they have no problems at all. So now I am thinking it is a setting either on Infoblox, or on CNR I need to change. I can see Infoblox is forwarding the requests to CNR but that's about it. I am not sure if CNR is discarding the request. When I do an nslookup from a PC in my network it does not matter if I set my DNS server to be the Infoblox or the CNR. Neither resolves the URL.
Then again, no matter what I lookup using the CNR as my DNS, I only get a response with the root DNS names and IPs!
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Constantinos,
Have you taken a look at the infoblox community site?  We've just reposted your question there and alerted some internal SMEs that should provide a solution soon.

  • Domain name does not link to index page.

Having a lot of difficulty publishing to FTP, have researched many forums and unable to find answers. Whether I publish to FTP via iWeb or Cyberduck, my domain name danbaileymusic.com shows a 403 Forbidden Error. However if i type in danbaileymusic.com/index or /music, ect it loads. The whole site functions fine, but the domain name does not link to the index page.
In Cyberduck all permissions have been turned on. Also I noticed that when publishing to a local folder, iWeb creates a folder "danbailey" and an index.html. This index page does not work in Cyberduck, however the index page that is WITHIN the folder "danbailey" does work, but it doesn't link to the domain name.
Please help! I've been working on this for weeks and cannot figure out why the domain name is not working!

It only creates the page names with first letter capitalized (as in Index not index) I have tried changing it from the sidebar and from the Page Name in the Inspector -- typing "index" comes back as "Index" It's easy enough to change the "I" to an" i" at the file level (which did fix the problem) but doing this also breaks all the links I have to "Index.html" Fixing this on the creation side would be ideal. Thoughts?
I am using iWeb '09 v.3.0.1 if that makes a difference
