Does it Pay to be Loyal

My telephone line was installed nearly 40 years ago by Post Office Telephones (original name for BT), and since that time has only been replaced once, if my failing memory is correct.  We have always paid our bills when due, and I cannot remember a time we caused the company any added expense by needing a reminder.
My reason for this query is in the title,  after all this time my charges for broadband, ignoring line rental and calls, will be £287.82p for the next 18 months, whereas if I was a new customer the charge for the same period would be £230.72p, AND, BT will supply a free Home Hub valued at £89.99p!
We use the telephone when needed, but not to excess, and do not require BT vision or other services from BT, all we want from is our telephone service and Option 1 broadband, but it would appear that the only way to achieve a better deal is to forget your loyalty and change supplier regularly.

Damned right chap, you have to be bold and screw them down to the last penny. Once you're 12/18 month period is up, you're in the box seat. It does mean that you have to keep up to date with what expires when and do some research, which, and I mean no disrespect, the older generation (60+) don't do very often as they live by the code that existed years ago when loyalty meant something and a provider would look after its customers.
Now it's a dog eat dog world and any company, no matter what they sell, car/home insurance, telecoms, breakdown cover, gas/electric, will never tell you that you could have their services cheaper than you currently pay, it's up to you, the customer, to negotiate a better deal.
Some would argue that this is the way it should be, but then again, many such people are used to dealing in that fashion but you'd be amazed at how many aren't and just carry on paying.
So to answer your question, "does it pay to be loyal" - NO, unfortunatly not

  • How does Apple pay you if you sell your book?

As many of you I'm thinking to set and sell a book through the apple Books store, so:
I need an US tax ID, even if I'm not living in USA,
    and an ISBN.
Then, suppose you sell some books.. How does Apple pay you? Do you have any options (i.e. Paypal, bank transfer..)?
    Thanks!

Apple pays via electronic bank transfer to your designate bank once a month.

In the future, you'll want to post in one of the iPod forums.
If you live near an Apple Store, stop in and you should get a new pair of headphones.
Otherwise, go here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod and fill out a request for a new pair.

  • How does one pay their bill

I have been a Verizon wireless customer for10+ years and switched to FIOS internet and TV a few years ago.  When I first switched I set up the one bill account, where it then took me over 8 hours on the phone to finally get FIOS and wireless Verizon to acknowledge each other exists.  All went well until thismonth's billing cycle.  When I went to log into my account, the system decided to make things more convenient for me by no longer taking my old user ID and password, but giving me the opportunity to get a new user name and password.  All I needed to do was enter my home phone land line number, which I don't have a land line, or my account number with the new user ID which I can't get because I can't log in to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.  After spending over an hour on the phone listening to the electronically generated drone of the voice telling me all agents were busy, mind you this was starting at 8:45, 15 min prior to the go time, and listening to the wail of the Kenny G music, the agent told me that it wasn't their department.  After another 40+ minutes of aural torture, I gave up, went out and shot several furry creatures and contemplated the meaning of life.  How does one pay their bill under these circumstances?  I even tried to use the 969 phony home phone  number they gave me.  What are my options and yes, in one month I will be canceling anything to do with Verizon TV and internet.

Sorry you are having difficulty, an agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information to help you resolve your issue.

  • Does it pay to upgarde my MBP

    Hi,
I have a MacBook pro. One of the early Core 2 duo models. 2.16 core 2 duo. Does it pay at all to sell this and upgrade? What do do you think it would be worth?
IT is a 15" model excellent condition matte screen.

Not knowing what you do with your MBP it's hard to say. Rather than go up and back with you asking questions why not just state what you need it for, what programs you run and what makes you think that a new model would be that much better.

  • Help:My MBP died. Does it pay to fix it?

My mid-2009 13" MBP died the other day. Was stuck on grey startup with circle and slash through it ( like international no sign that you would see for smoking but in grey). After posting about it all were in agreement that my Hard Drive was probably the issue. Received my new Crucial SSD today. Installed it no issue. Formatted it no issue. Tried to restore from Time Capsule and was told that my backup was corrupted. Not too worried as I had everything backed up and had the disc for the 10.5. Leopard that originally came with the computer. Thought I would install the OSX then go through the process of upgrading and installing everything else.
I had just successfully completed the new installation of the OSX (absolutely no issues). I then received an error message and the machine shut down with the darkening curtain coming in top to bottom. Now, it will power on to the Apple logo but no spinning time clock below. Cannot boot to recovery by Command-r.
Thoughts about what could be wrong? Seems like an issue bigger than my hard drive. Does it pay to put money into this computer at this point? I am sure just having someone diagnose the issue will be several hundred dollars.
    Thanks for all your thoughts.

First off you installed 10.5 on a machine that the firmware has been changed.
Believe it or not, you could have installed 10.6 from the disk too, it's a full OS X 10.6.3 minus the free iLife, just hold the option key to boot from it. This would have been better as 10.5 has been mothballed basically.
You can extract your free iLife from the 10.5 disks with Pacifist from CharlesSoft.
Thought I would install the OSX then go through the process of upgrading and installing everything else.
Does this mean you installed 10.5, then upgraded to 10.6, then upgraded to 10.7?
I then received an error message and the machine shut down with the darkening curtain coming in top to bottom.
That's a kernel panic. Could have come from third party software (if you installed it), or else it's bad OS X install somewhere along the line.
Now, it will power on to the Apple logo but no spinning time clock below. Cannot boot to recovery by Command-r.
Command r "Recovery Partition" only works in 10.7 and 10.8, so if 10.7 didn't get installed, you don't have one as it's a new boot drive.
If you only got 10.5 on that machine it could be because 10.5's time there was no SSD's.
You need to use the 10.6.3 disk, erase the entire drive and format OS X Extended Journaled, install 10.6.3 and Software Update to 10.6.8. before doing 10.7 or 10.8.

BTW Apple can't help you as it's your SSD. If you want them to take care of it, remove the SSD and have them place their own new hard drive in there, test the machine and install 10.7 or 10.8, then if the machine is fine, take it home and use Carbon Copy Cloner with SATA to USB adapter, erase and clone to the SSD and try that.
Also because SSD;'s are rather new, there might be some more tricks like enabling TRIM etc. on them or it could be a problem with that particular SSD and Macs.
See MacOwnersSupportGroup, they have more experience with SSD's.

  • HT201469 Does Apple Pay require an internet connection in time of purchase?

I'm curious Does Apple Pay require an internet connection in time of purchase?
For example if you are traveling outside of the country and you are in the roaming area and you need to pay with your phone in the store - what will happen if you don't have internet connection?

    Thanks for the response Chris,
I'm leaning towards that direction myself...  The last line of the log exerpt above is:
Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://123.456.789.0:8080/guides/framework_4.5.0.21746.swz
So it does seem it's trying to fall back to a local copy, which I know exists, but clearly can't be accessed from that machine.  What doesn't make sense to me if this is the case, is that the user can browse to Workspace on that IP, login successfully, manually start a process, but then it's the guide that fails.  So the connection between the browser and LC exists and is working, it's just this framework that wont fetch!
Anyway, still doing more testing on this - will keep you posted.
    Thanks,
    K.

  • Does Apple Pay setup with camera support portrait mode credit cards?

I have a credit card that the front face is in portrait mode instead of the traditional landscape view. I tried to used the camera to setup this card in Apple Pay but it would recognize it. I had to set it up manually so I could use that card. I was wandering if Apple Pay camera setup is compatible with those types of cards.

WiseJD, that's a good way to test the theory, I agree.  But I'm not really blocked on doing anything here, this is more about technical curiosity.  So I don't plan to try that test, since signing out of iCloud means iCloud photos and docs get deleted from the phone and I'd have to get them downloaded again later.  The hassle exceeds my level of curiosity.
However, a co-worker pointed me to the iOS Security Guide (Apple Pay starts on page 24).  The second paragraph on page 27 says, "This allows iOS to instruct the Secure Enclave to render cards unusable by marking its copy of the AR as invalid under the following scenarios:
    When the passcode is disabled
The user logs out of iCloud
So there is some connection to one's iCloud Apple ID.  The connection appears to be quite minimal, but I accept this as sufficient circumstantial evidence that for users with two Apple IDs, one iCloud and one iTunes, the iCloud Apple ID is the one Apple Pay looks at when deciding whether to offer to include your existing credit cards.
I'll stick with that as my theory unless someone presents a counterexample.  That is, if someone says they use separate Apple IDs on their phone for iCloud and iTunes, they have no credit card in the iCloud account, and Apple Pay *does* offer them the chance to, "Use Card on File with iTunes," (from their iTunes Apple ID).
    Thanks.

  • HT6288 Does Apple Pay Support the Visa (Quicksilver) CC From Capital One

Sad to say that Apply isn't available for my GM Master Card from Capital One because it's has rewards features.
I'm planning to obtain a VISA Quicksliver CC fro Capital One.  It also has reward features, does anyone know if this card is acceptable for Apple Pay ?

It should work fine.  The rewards have nothing to do with not working.  I also have a GM Master Card from Capital One.  Only straight Capital One cards currently work ie: Quick Silver, Venture, etc.  These cards are directly from/by Capital One.  The Store/Company branded versions of Capital One will roll out later in the year or next.  GM could not tell me exactly, but I would assume it won't take too long as more consumers will be asking that the branded cards be added to the list.  Several new banks were added just this week.  Before then only the major banks ie: Chase, Bank One, etc. were good with Visa/MC, now my bank USAA has been added.  Hopefully the Store/Company versions of these cards will be added soon.

  • Does Apple care about their loyal users?

I've been using Apple products for years and years, why are you now trying to persuade me - and, as a result, - my friends and acquaintances to keep as far from Apple as possible?
Last Saturday I've bought and iPhone at an official retailer - Re-Store in Moscow. It's a specialized Mac store.
The phone was sold to me defective the touchscreen does not work. I couldn't check it in store, as they've asked 20 extra dollars for the service (!!!!!)
As soon as I've realized my new iPhone is of improper quality, I've contacted the store back for help and replacement. And guess what I've got back? NOTHING. No excuse, no replacement, nothing. A broken iPhone, that's what I've bought from Apple.
Apple products have a significant price premium, which, I presumed, deserve it's users at least decent support and service. I've got NONE.
All I want is an working device for quite a significant sum of money.I loved (please, note the tense) your products and solutions.
Will I ever buy ANY Apple product (and my MacBook requires replacement soon) - I doubt so!

So, you've been using Apple products "for years" and you've only just received a "dud", and now you want to avoid Apple products altogether??
No matter what you buy, from whoever, there is always a slight chance you may get a "dud" one. That's why products come with warranties.
A broken iPhone, that's what I've bought from Apple.
You said you bought it from Re-Store in Moscow. Not from Apple.
Apple products have a significant price premium, which, I presumed, deserve it's users at least decent support and service. I've got NONE.
Since you bought the phone from Re-Store, your contract is with them. They should be the people to replace the phone with a fully functioning one.
If they're not helping, have you actually contacted Apple directly to find out what to do? This is a user-to-user forum, and nobody here can do anything to help you.

  • LOYALTY DOES NOT PAY........

Just recieved an E-mail from Verizon stating my loyalty has "paid off" by offering to upgrade me to a smart phone.  Of course there is a $30 upgrade fee and an additional $30 a month tacked on to my bill for the data plan.  Really?  Seems that price applies to all customers, not just "loyal customers".  No thanks - might be time to take my business elsewhere.

Or you could always not upgrade and keep everything just as it is, thus not incurring $30 upgrade fees and not incurring an increase of $30 for a data plan. But it's ultimately your decision whether or not it's time to take you business elsewhere.
My guess is Verizon was just reminding you that you could upgrade to a smartphone at a subsidized price.
