Does iTunes 11 behave differently in Snow Leopard?

The reason I ask is I see no option for toggling the status bar on or off, and Enter Full Screen is grayed out. I'm guessing that Enter Full Screen works with Lion/Mountain Lion only. I'm less certain whether Hide Status Bar is excluded from Snow Leopard. Oddly, status bar and full screen get different treatment in my View menu. Status bar options simply aren't there but full screen exists as a ghost.

But of course! I hadn't even thought of video. The only time full screen would be useful.
Thanks.

The Mac running Snow Leopard should be able to configure virtually any version of the AirPort Express.
Tell us what steps that you are taking to configure the Express and what happens after each step.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. If your 20 users had 500GB hard drives, then your total HD capacity would be 10,000GB, or 10TB. Double would be 20TB, which is more than I recommended. The 15TB (1.5 x the amount of data you would theoretically be backing up) would be plenty.
That said, the DroboPro has a maximum of 16TB using currently available 2TB drives, so I would feel confident in recommending that to you. Realistically, your users probably aren't all going to fill their hard drives to capacity, so you might find you need even less.
If I were you, I would look at how much data is on each hard drive right now, add it all up, multiply it by 1.5, then throw in an extra TB for good measure. I would only purchase enough drives to handle that capacity. As your users take up more space, you can order more drives and add them to the DroboPro.
For example, if each user was using an average of 200GB currently, then for 20 machines you would have a total of 4,000GB, or 4TB. I would put 3x2TB drives in the DroboPro, giving you a total of 6TB (minus overhead) of backup capacity. From there, you can add more 2TB drives as you need them. This is almost identical to a system I manage for a client and it works very well.
    I hope this helps!

  • Home sharing does not work after update to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9

I am using home sharing since about a year without any problems. After updating to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 it suddenly does not work anymore.
On my iMac and my Mac Book Pro I get error code 3259 and it tells me to check my firewall and to enable Port 3689.
I did not change anything in the firewall settings, itunes on both allows data traffic in both directions. I also do not find any option to activate a port ( also wondering why this is suddenly now necessary)
I deactivated home sharing on both machines and enabled it again. It still does not work.
On both machines iTunes displays the the library on the left side but like said it is not accessable
With Finder I can access the other computer from both machines without any problem.
Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated

first of all, if you are behind a router firewall, and have your network secured (WPA2 and a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers), you don't need the software firewall on your Mac(s).
@ least turned if off for troubleshooting purposes.
turn home sharing off on both computers, and make sure
    (a) both Macs have access to the internet
    (b) iTunes on both machines is authorized for the same iTunes account.
turn home sharing back on on both Macs.
    does it work ?

  • ITunes will not open in Snow Leopard

For inexplicable reasons, iTunes will not open. I am using an Intel iMac with a 2Ghz chip and 3 gb of ram. I have tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling, deleting plug-ins, and running Disk Warrior 4.2. Nothing works, and Apple wants me to pay $29 to talk to someone on the phone. Since this is a Snow Leopard issue that seems unfair. Is anyone else running Snow Leopard unable to open iTunes, and if so, how is the condition fixed?

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • Does anybody know how to install Snow Leopard on an external HD with Lion?

My MacBook Pro came from apple with Lion OS X 10.7.1 installed and it doesn't operate with Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 (or any other version for that matter and PT 9.0.5 is only in beta) So, I'm looking to partition Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 to my external HD so I can bypass the issue without compromising and downgrading my MacBook Pro (which I've been told is not possible anyway but I'm sure there is a way) and having to A) Pay out more money to avid and get PT 9 ( BETA) or B) Run a different DAW (Also costing more $$$) Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Yes it's possible, you need another Firewire capable Mac#2 that can hold c boot off the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Retail Disks and a Firewire cable and if necessary a FW 800 to 400 adapter.
First you boot into Lion on Mac#1 and use Disk Utility to Erase Free Space, this will take a few hours.
Then backup your data off the Mac#1 Lion partition to a external drive and disconnect. (for safety sake)
Then you create a second partition on the drive in Disk Utility, formatted OS X Extended (Journaled) under the Partition Tab.
While that is all going on, on the other Mac#2 that can boot off 10.6.3 disks, you do the same thing,
First you boot into Snow or Lion on Mac#2 and use Disk Utility to Erase Free Space, this will take a few hours.
Then backup the data off the Mac#2 main boot partition to a external drive and disconnect. (for safety sake)
Then you create a second partition on the drive in Disk Utility, formatted OS X Extended (Journaled) under the Partition Tab.
Hold c and boot Mac#2 off the 10.6.3 Retail Snow Leopard Disk (won't work with grey disks unless it matches the target machine model) and install onto the new partition on Mac#2, reboot holding option key and select the 10.6.3 partition, once in, use the Combo Update to get to 10.6.8. (must do)
Reboot holding T this Lion Mac#1 so it's in Target Disk Mode, connect the Firewire cable to the other Mac#2, then hold option key and reboot into the second partition on Mac#2. Download and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the new partition of Mac#2 to new partition of Mac#1
Reboot Mac#1 holding option key  to boot into Snow partition on the factory Lion Mac#1.
If that doesn't work, you need to combine the 10.6.3 and the 10.6.8 Combo Update together in this process at the link below, and apply the 10.6.3 + 10.6.8 combined image in the same Target Disk mode fashion
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3264421?start=0&tstart=0
Another method is if you can convince Apple to send you the 10.6.6 install disks for your machine, then use the Target Disk Mode approach to circumvent the firmware which is preventing you from booting off install disks from any previous version of OS X.
For example, my new 2011 MBP came with 10.6.6 grey install disks, but can't boot off the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Retail Disks.
Another method would be to find another same exact machine as yours, came with 10.6.6 from the factory (even if upgraded to Lion it should still boot 10.6.6), thus will boot off the 10.6.6 install disks and install it onto your parttion.
Needless to say, after going through all this, you really need to make a clone of the partition once it's successfully installed.
Set the startup disk in system preferences to Snow.

  • Safari does not start after upgrading to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I just updated my iMac to Snow Leopard. Everything works fine except for Safari.
If I open Safari, it says: You cannot use this version of Safari with this version of Mac OS X. You have Safari 4.0.3 (translated from Dutch).
In About my Mac I see that the version of OS X is 10.6.1.
Software Update says my system is Up to date.
So I downloaded Safari from the Apple site with Firefox and ran the install.
The install of Safari says in the Select Target Volume screen: Safari cannot be installed on this Disk. For this update Mac OS X 10.5.8 of higher is needed (translated from Dutch). But I have 10.6.1! Does anyone have a clue how to resolve this without loosing all my settings?
    Thanks in advance!
    Daniel from Amsterdam

    Greetings,
Don't waste your time downloading Safari from the Apple web site; it won't work, no matter what you do, since it's not for Snow Leopard.
From what you describe, it sounds like you (or someone else) may have moved Safari from where it belongs, and therefore it wasn't updated when you installed Snow Leopard, which would cause the current version it sees to not run.
Where, exactly is Safari located on your system? Safari must be at the top level of the /Applications folder; it cannot be anywhere else or it won't work properly when updating the OS.

  • ITunes 9.0.1 and Snow Leopard are not displaying video

upgraded to Snow Leopard and applied the 10.6.1 patch yesterday, and tried to watch video in iTunes today.
I get audio but no video.
Tried all the obvious (making it full screen, moving the window around) all with no resolution.
looking for pointers on how to resolve this.
    cheers,
    David

no remote speakers, just trying to play the thing on my iMac.
have gone through the preferences to see if anything there. tried the setting to force video into a new window - whatever option I try results in the same audio-but-no-video problem.
I am also able to view the files within QuicktimeX outside of iTunes.

  • Word attachments does not work in mail with Snow Leopard

I have installed Snow Leopard - and now I cannot attach word files to my mail (it seems as if word files in 2008 format work but not the .doc). I click the file just to find out if it is the right one I have attached - this leaves me with a message tat the file cannot be opened by Mail.
    What can I do?

It is a known problem, and bug report has been filed about not being able to open some files in the Compose window while preparing a message. Hopefully will be fixed by the next update. Is there another dimension to the problem you are reporting? If you save the message as a Draft, close, and then reopen from the Draft mailbox, does the file then open?

  • Does Sims 3 Pets work with Snow Leopard and NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics?

So I recently purchased Sims 3 Pets, because as I'm sure someone has heard, my computer met the tech specs published on the game box. But I have the problem in the game that whenever a horse appears, the game freezes. I've heard that updating Leopard (I have 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard fixes the problem. However, I've also heard that Sims 3 does not work with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics. (But apparently Snow Leopard needs this graphic card to run?).
So my main question is does anyone know if Sims 3 Pets works with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 card and Snow Leopard?

*** Just a Note: I've been playing the original Sims 3 game on my mac since it originally came out. I haven't had problems until this particular expansion pack.

  • Why does "Link Media" behave differently when used as a keyboard shortcut vs when right clicked???

Not sure whether anyone else is encountering this, but the "Link Media" command behaves differently when right clicked as opposed to when used as a keyboard shortcut.
When you right click to select that option for an offline file, you get only the corresponding disconnected source media. But when you execute "Link Media" via a keyboard shortcut, PP brings up a huge list of all other offline media. Why does it only do that when you use the keyboard shortcut for "Link Media" but not when you right click "Link Media".
I'd like to get the Link Media command to behave via the keyboard shortcut the same way it behaves when right clicked. I don't want to have to deal with relinking a hundred other files, but just the single offline file I'm working on.

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • New iPad with iTunes 10.3.1 and Snow Leopard?

Just got a new iPad (iPad "3") and want to transfer a bunch of photos from my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.3.1--
CAN I DO THIS using the cable connector (not WiFi)?  I do this every day with my iPod Touch (Gen 1, Dec 2007 running iOS 3.1.3).  I will be moving to Mac OS Lion (10.7.3) soon - but not immediately.
    Thanks for any feedback here.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte
    Friday 23 March 2012

The new iPad needs iTunes 10.6+ (from here). You could use a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos over via your wifi network, but they will only go into the Camera Roll album - though you can then 'copy' them into new albums.
