Does iTunes Match replace Music syncing?

I was just wondering if I buy iTunes Match will I no longer need to sync my device with my computer for music?

Just be warned, though, that syncing of metadata (such as Play Counts, Last Played) in iTunes Match is still pretty erratic. Just yesterday, I played all the tracks with Plays = 0 and updated iTunes Match afterwards. When I opened iTunes again this morning, the tracks are back in the playlist with Plays = 0 again. All my iOS devices did not update as well. If you care about your metadata, do not subscribe to iTunes Match, at least not yet, until they sorted this thing out.

Music in your iTunes library that isn't available at the iTunes Store is uploaded to your iCloud account.

  • HT204406 iTunes Match replacing music with censored versions

Has there been a solution found for iTunes Match replacing music with censored versions?  Everything I read has been old and no real solutions.  This was unexpected and an unacceptable result of me paying for a service.  At minimum there should be a question prompting the user to agree to censored replacements or the use of original music if a match cannot be found.  Thanks in advance to anyone that can help and sorry if this is duplicated info.

You're files are not gone. They are still on the HDD of your computer. Apparently, at some point you've created a new, empty iTunes library. Go to ~/Music and tell us what folders are there. At minimum there will be a folder named "iTunes" where all your files will be.
If you have backups, you can restore the iTunes library files from immediately before the problem happened and be back to pretty close to where you were.

  • Does itunes match replace home sharing's purchase check for music?

If I've got iTunes Match set up on all devices, is there any reason to automatically have each computer scan every other computer for new purchases, if music is the only media I'm interested in moving around?
For the odd movie or TV show that I buy, I'm happy to do a manual transfer. It's not very frequent.
Here's why I'm thinking of doing this. I think that when my main server tries to find purchases on other computers, it becomes unavailable to serve its media to my Apple TV devices. That means that when I try to load tv shows for my daughter, if it's busy looking for other purchases on another computer, you get the spinning wheel ... for a looooooong time. Only thing I know to fix it is to restart iTunes on the server. Royal PITA.
So, if I have iTunes match enabled on all computers, wouldn't that take care of ensuring that any song I buy from any device should automagically appear on all computers -- thus rendering the music part of music purchase checking moot?
    Thanks!

Yes, that's just for the US at the moment.
Just to clarify, by the way, that the ability to redownload music and TV programmes isn't anything to do with iTunes match. Match is a separate paid for service that puts your music collection into the cloud.

  • Itunes match replacing music libraries

    does it actually do that?
an article in Macworld said that it did not

It does and it doesn't.  =)
If you have music on your phone and you turn on iTunes Match on your phone, any songs that have not been uploaded to the iCloud will be removed.  But any songs that are already in iCloud will remain on your phone as they were, rather than being deleted and re-downloaded again.

  • HT5637 How does itunes match sync playlists?

How does itunes match sync playlists between my computer, ipad and ipod?

It will tell you that the library exceeds the limit and will not proceed. So if you have more than the 25k limit (and keep in mind that iTunes Store purchases do not count against this limit) the only way you can use iTM is to move some music out of the library to get under the limit before signing up for the service.

  • Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia.

Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia. Can I start using itunes music match while I am travelling without the actual music files attached to my itunes?

In your situation I strongly recommend you read over that KB article. The international iTunes Stores are not cross-compatible.
My understanding of how it would work is that when activating iTunes Match on your US Store account, any songs you have in your iTunes Library that were purchased from the AUS Store account will NOT be matched. As I understand it, those files will be uploaded (which means you need the files on a local HDD). I also do not think it is possible to have iTunes Match active on more than one store ID on the same computer. But since iTunes Match is not available internationally yet, that point is moot for the moment.
To be honest you might want to wait until the service is available internationally so you can guage how will it will serve you.

  • Does iTunes Match need a computer to sync what's already on your iPhone?

I recently lost all of my music on my computer that I have. It got wiped and reset along with iTunes. I do, however, have some music on my iPhone that I want to try and keep. Would it be possible to get iTunes Match and somehow sync the music I already have on my phone to the cloud? Or will I have to buy all of that music all over again?

    Hi,
You need a computer to use iTunes match. If you did not have a back up, you will need to buy the music again.

  • How does iTunes Match work - do I keep the music?

Hey guys! With iOS 7, I can finally stream my music that I downloaded/bought on iTunes directly from iCloud, which is really amazing because I can finally free up my storage on my iPhone. Now, the only songs I have to store are the ones that I bought from places other than iTunes and I'm actually thinking about subscribing iTunes Match for several reasons:
    1. I don't just download music from iTunes, I sometimes also buy music on Amazon and Google Play.
    2. The music I bought on Amazon somehow  has lower volume(intensity level, i.e. not loud) sometimes.
    3. I did rip and still rip some music from CDs and it would be great if iTune can match it and then I can just stream them from iCloud.
    4. The quality of some of the music I ripped was not the highest quality and I would love to upgrade them without having to rip them all over again.
Now, here is my question. Will the songs stay if I only subscribe iTunes Match for a year only and then cancel the service? That means if I cancel the service a year later, can I still stream my music from iCloud? So the music I bought elsewhere is equivalent to the music I bought on iTunes (the music stays with my Apple ID). One more question, I heard that sometimes iTunes can't match your songs because the artist name or album name in your library are spelled or showed differently (',' rather than '/', "The" rather than "the"). If iTunes can find the right album artwork for my music, can I also assume it will match my songs without any problem? So all I have to do *if* iTunes can't find the music is to modify the artist name or/and album name?
That's it! Thank you in advance!

Do you know how iTunes match the music? For example, I ripped the CD "Rent [Film Soundtrack]" and there are actually two discs, so I have two album names Disc 1 and Disc 2 while iTunes version only has one album and with different name of course ("Rent (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)"). In this case, will iTunes Match work?If not, is there anyway that I can make it work?
As I mentioned, ID3 tags are not a factor in whether a track will match or not. The service uses a small "sonic fingerprint" of the file which it compares against an online database. So your ripped album having a slightly different Album name than what is is in the iTunes Store actually will not have any effect on the tracks matching or not.

Another thing is that I know I get to keep my music as long as it is in my HDD, but can I still stream my songs directly from iCloud after I cancel the subscription as if I bought them on iTunes?
    No.

  • My itunes match will not sync properly

    Mac User same thing
Hello there here is my problem. My itunes match will not sync properly. It shows a lot of songs over 100 with the icloud match status as "Waiting"
Here is what i have done
    1. Reinstall the entire OS delete everything and start from scratch
    2. Turn on and off itunes match.
    3. Hold down the option key
    4. Move my music out of the music folder clear everything out of my itunes and bing back my music.
    5. Use backup copies of my music in case the music files had been corrupted.
    6. Checked numerious mac community forms that report simular issues.
    7. Tried another macbook pro that I have
    8. My wifes account which has about 8000 songs did no have the issue. My account seems to have the issue sobeservices2. I beleive this to be account specific. My account has 11481 songs and about 100 to 100 show with the status of "waiting"
    9. I get no error messages
    10. I've tried multiple ISP - COMCAST - FIOS - I even tried multiple computers
    11. Redid the entire os
    12. My account has problems "*****s2" but my wife account does not
    13. Replicated the issue on more then one computer it seems only has problems with my itunes account. Suck waiting to upload
and its not always the same songs sometimes it's different songs that it gets suck waiting to upload.
    14. Removed the waiting songs and attempted again
    15. Started with fresh iTunes had the server match a blank itunes folder  to the point where it said "0 Songs Match" then re-added them
    16. Called Apple Care and spoke with a Senior Advisor who told me he would have to escalate a ticket and he to thought I had done all the tsing possible and that it was up to the engineers to figure out a solution.
I have been working on this for about 4 weeks now. All my trouble shooting has pointed it to be an account specific issue.
    Any advise from the community

    Hi
I have had a similar set of issues.  8000 songs, 800 in waiting.  All ripped from CD into Apple Lossless - mainly classical so most didn't match directly.
First I ripped all these 8000 songs for my father first on his laptop from his CD collection.  Eventually got them all matched or uploaded to his Match account (except one) by the usual tricks people suggest (e.g. recoding as AIFF or MP3 etc, deleting, re-adding blah blah). Though of course I shouldn't really have to waste my time doing this.  One song absolutely refused to upload. Tried everything - including buying a pristine downloadable version off the publisher's website.  Still resolutely refuses to upload.
Anyway - main problem is now with my PC. I copied all these 8000 tracks over. Re-installed everything etc.  800 remain in "waiting" (even though they uploaded Ok on a different account).  When I rip my own CDs even some common stuff (e.g. Bowie/Stones) gets uploaded instead or matched and often with one or two tracks stuck in 'waiting'.
If I then look at my IPad (with Match enabled), it will show these waiting tracks as if they were already downloaded to it (which of course they are not). If I try and play one of them it just skips over it.

  • How does Itunes Match work?

If I subscribe, does ITunes Match suck all of my songs off of my Imac and take them to the cloud, update them and return them to my hard drive - can I get the improved quality stuff back on my hard drive to replace the "inferior" stuff or does it stay in the cloud?
Next question - I have a bunch of songs in ITunes, more in a Music folder, and more in a downloads folder. I assume they should all be in ITunes to use ITunes match the best way. How do I get them out of the other folders into ITunes? Where should songs be on the computer (LION 10.75).

    First, Thanks.
So I couldget all of my musc into Itunes (still not sure how) including the music on my IPOD, transfer it by Match to the cloud.
To add music to iTunes either simply drag-n-drop it, or pull down File > Add to Library. For music that is only on an iPod see this user tip: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
    Rick Carlton wrote:
Then could I download them all to a seperate folder, throw away the older stuff, somehow transfer the new stuff back into ITunes, and have all new stuff on my HD and Time Machine Back-up?
There is no downloading, moving or "transfering" required. Everything is done directly in iTunes. Time Machine will then backup everything on the internal HDD.
    Rick Carlton wrote:
One more question - if they go to the cloud, do they sta there so my wife's Ipad and Iphone can play them?
You wife will have to be logged into your iTunes Store account to access iTunes Match.

    Hello Karen,
Yes, enabling iTunes Match the current music library on the phone will be deleted.
From: iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
When enabling iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and then replaced with your music in iCloud.
The music is stored on the cloud and streamed to your device unless you choose to download it on the phone.
Here is some additional info on how it works:

The only way to do what you want is to log into your wife's iTunes Store account on your iPad. Doing this will lock you out of your account for 90 days.
