Does iTunes now need to keep apps on my iMac?

I have an iPad (used to have an iPhone), and obviously have loads of apps on my iMac.
I use iTunes for music, movies, apps etc and like it. However, every few days there are loads of app updates, as tbh iTunes is now used for streaming, to my Apple TV, iPad etc. I update the apps on my iPad direct, buy more on my iPad etc.
With all the apps available for re-download from iTunes store, why does iTunes in my iMac need to download and store them on my HDD?
eg if I needed to re-download an app, Its quicker to just get it direct from the iPad, than sync. Why does it need to stay on my iMac, could it not just have a link to the apps, rather than the full apps stored on there?
For music, yes I agree, it better on my iMac, as I can listen while I work, etc, but I cant use the apps on my iMac anyway so why should they be stored on there and take up space, when they are available in the cloud?
anyone?

Now I've thought about this, it does just take up space on HDD for no reason, my iTunes is on an external HDD, but HDD space is HDD space, when there is no need.
this is stated on the Apple site as well
http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/#backup
I dont really sync anymore as there is not much need (for me personally), any music bought is synced if I buy on iPad or iTunes on iMac, apps they ant run on iMac so they are pointless.
Does anyone else run like this?

  • Does iTunes Connect Christmas break mean apps won't update with new folios over Christmas?

I have 2 folios that are due to be released to my app this Christmas - both fall within the 22nd-29th window iTunes have chosen to close down.
So even though I can publish my folios through DPS over Christmas and pre-plan my app description in iTunes accordingly - before the 22nd - will those published folios not appear in my app?
    Thanks.

You mean updating a paid folio... don't know if that needs approving, too.
Maybe someone else can chime in here (I have no exp in that)

  • Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia.

Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia. Can I start using itunes music match while I am travelling without the actual music files attached to my itunes?

In your situation I strongly recommend you read over that KB article. The international iTunes Stores are not cross-compatible.
My understanding of how it would work is that when activating iTunes Match on your US Store account, any songs you have in your iTunes Library that were purchased from the AUS Store account will NOT be matched. As I understand it, those files will be uploaded (which means you need the files on a local HDD). I also do not think it is possible to have iTunes Match active on more than one store ID on the same computer. But since iTunes Match is not available internationally yet, that point is moot for the moment.
To be honest you might want to wait until the service is available internationally so you can guage how will it will serve you.

  • I need to sync my old iPhone to a new iTunes but need to keep the data?

    Hi,
I have got a new computer, and so obviosuly have had to download a new verison of iTunes to go with it, however, I now cant sync my iPhone (which was linked previously to an iTunes account on my old computer) without it wanting to erase allll my stuff. Any help??
    Thanks so much.

You will need to move your iTunes library (and "all your stuff", like contacts, etc.) from your old computer to your new computer. When you Have it all set up, you can set up your phone to sync with the new library. This will erase the phone, but you can re-sync your media, apps, etc. from the iTunes library you've moved to the new one.
You can NOT use the iPhone to move your library from one machine to another. It is not a backup device.

  • Why does iTunes 11.1.1 keeps resyncing all my songs?

This problem really startet with iTunes 11.1 some days ago, before 11.1.1 came out, but it seems to be a bug that keeps my iPhone 5 from finalizing the sync with iTunes. I have restored too, but the same thing keeps happening:
    1. The phone syncs, but cannot finish step 7 and I have to manually stop the process.
    2. The next time I connect to iTunes, it starts syncing 1400 songs back from the beginning, even though they are on the phone already.
And iTunes steals A LOT of CPU when syncing, I have to say.
PS! I have an iPhone 5 64 GB with iOS 7.0.3 and an iMac 21.5 (Mid 2010) with Mavericks 10.9 (this discussion will not let me edit the product I use, somehow)

Thanks, Lost in Asia.  I'm hoping Apple releases an update that makes this behavior go away.  I felt like punching at walls, it's going to be tedious refetching those gigs of reference podcasts.
Anyway, have just now enabled backups on my iTunes folder as well.  Time to get a terabyte drive, I guess.

  • Why does itunes wipe out all my app groups?

I'm running Windows XP, iTunes 10.4.1.10, iOS 4.3.5.
After restoring my iPod to factory settings, then re-syncing the ipod with the data, music, & apps that was previosuly backed up,
all of the groups I had created for the apps are gone.
I now have to manually create those groups over again.
    Are others seeing this problem?

    What are you talking about?
    Please explain.

  • Does iTunes Match need a computer to sync what's already on your iPhone?

I recently lost all of my music on my computer that I have. It got wiped and reset along with iTunes. I do, however, have some music on my iPhone that I want to try and keep. Would it be possible to get iTunes Match and somehow sync the music I already have on my phone to the cloud? Or will I have to buy all of that music all over again?

    Hi,
You need a computer to use iTunes match. If you did not have a back up, you will need to buy the music again.

  • Why does itunes constantly need to update files?

I update my files manually on my iPod touch. Whenever it is plugged in, every few minutes iTunes says, "updating files," and takes a moment to update, I suppose. But while it is doing this, my iTunes becomes unresponsive if I try to do anything; play or change a song, or make changes to artist, album, etc on any song. As I am constantly updating my files to include album name, art, and other things, it seems to become unresponsive and need to be restarted almost every time I use iTunes. This is very aggrivating and I don't know how to make it stop??

Try posting in the iTunes forum.

  • Itunes now needs a mobile phone?

i just read an article in the age newpaper about apple now requiring a mobile phone to use itunes - is that right?  when are they then going to make it a requirement to own an apple mobile phone?  surely that isn't true...

The article doesn't explicitly say the service is optional, but it does say this:
Two-step verification is currently available for accounts in Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Ireland and the US. You can sign up for two-step verification on your Apple account now atApple's website.
Which strongly implies it is optional.

  • TS1702 I have recently sync'd my iPad with music previously on iTunes now none of the apps will open on my iPad and although I can see the apps on ritunes it's saying there aren't any what should I do?

None of the apps are worked once the music from iTunes was synced to the ipad

Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

  • I restored my computer to a time before an Itune update-need to keep songs

I restored my computer to a time befoe the last update to ITunes. Now I am unable to open ITunes at all. I am being asked to reinstall I-tunes when I click on the application, but I do not want to lose all my songs. I have all my songs on the i-pod. How can I restore the program without losing my songs?

    Dear Katrina:
    Greetings!
I backed up my files as you suggested. I tried to reinstall I-tunes from the disc, and it looked as if everything was installing correctly. I tried reinstalling it by putting in the disk and waiting for the prompts. I also tried through the control panel "add programs." I think the add program approach even asked me if I wanted old files to be deleted. I said yes with confidence since I have a back up. Nothing worked. When I click on I-tunes, I receive the message: "I-tunes cannot run because some of its required components is missing. Please reinstall I-tunes."
It seems that I am not even able to delete the program. Maybe I can manually delete the folders through "explore?" What do you think I should try next? At least, all my music is backed up, and other than not being able to operate I-tunes from my computer, the computer seems to be operating normal.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Christopher

  • Why does iTunes on my iPhone keep rewinding songs after pausing?

If I pause iTunes on my iPhone by either removing my headphone jack or pressing pause, if I then restart after about an hour later, the music jumps backwards several songs that have just been played. The longer I leave it, the more songs it rewinds. I find this very frustrating !!

Make sure you're selecting the iPod in the left-hand column, and then clicking the Settings column. It should be the second line under "Options" .. I believe it reads "Only Update Checked Songs."

  • Reinstall original version of OS X. Now need the included Apps?

Ok I'm putting my Mac back to like new with a reinstall of Lion, the original OS X version, but I don't have any of the iLife apps. How do I get them as there was no reinstall discs with my system.

if your macbook pro came preinsalled with Lion when you bought it - after you reinstall Lion - open App Store and you should be able to see it under purchases.
i own a late 2011 Macbook Pro - when I did a clean install - iLife was in my purchases - i just have to download it again.
