Does itunes restore deletes everything permanently?

I had an iPod Touch 5th generation 16gb for iOS 7.1.2, and sold it off to eBay. I used the iTunes restore option to restore it into a new device by downloading the core software from Apple's servers, and starting fresh. I am just wondering does iTunes restoring to a new device permanently deletes everything on that iPod?I see software that claims to crack the security of iPods and iPhones and retrieve lost or deleted data.

The erase all contents and settings effectively deletes all of your information.  I say effectively because if someone wanted to spend enough money they could retrieve information, but that will cost a very large sum.  Only alternative is to destroy the device or have access to a high security erasing system that will overwrite the storage multiple times.
You can feel comfortable that your information has been erased on the iPod you sold...retrieval would not be worth the effort.

  • Why does iTunes match delete everything off my iPad memory every time I connect to pc?

iTunes recently deleted all my music off my iPad so it was only available to stream, which is no use to me. I've just connected to my pc again and gone, just like that every song has that horrible little cloud next to it. I spent a full day last weekend downloading everything to the iPad memory, looks like I'll be doing it again tomorrow.

    Gavin,
From what I understand the first time you connect your iPad it should wipe out all cloud based music but after that as you stream music ( which is not real streaming but download and play) it should then keep the music in case you want to replay it and only delete it to make room for any more music you download subsequently.
If that isn't happening then it's probably a bug!
    Regards,
    Shawn

  • ITunes restore deleting new photos

I accidentally restored from iTunes backup, and deleted new (unbackedup) photos in my iPhone5. The data recovery tools I've tried (tenorshare and anymp4) are only able to recover from what was restored. Is there any other way to recover ?

Possibly if you had iCloud automatic backup turned on. The following has restore instructions: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud
Note that restoring from that will also delete any photos taken since it last backed up. If you have new photos you can transfer them to a computer before doing the restore: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Another possibility would be if you had Photo Stream turned on and the photos were transferred to another device. iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ

  • Does "Itunes Backup" Backup everything including photos and Music?

Well I started another thread saying that my Ipod touch keeps freezing asking if anyone knows how to fix it so I don't have to send it in but looks like I'm not getting an answer so before I do send it I was wondering...
Does "Itunes back up" back up photos, music, and apps? And if not how do I get that back?
    Thanks.

Yes iTunes back all of your listed types up.
iTunes will back up the following information
Address Book and Address Book favorites.
App Store Application data (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
    Application settings, preferences, and data.
    Autofill for webpages.
    CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
    Calendar accounts.
    Calendar events.
    Call history.
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
    In-app purchases.
Keychain (this includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with iOS 4 and later, the keychain information is transferred to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, the keychain can only be restored to the same iPhone or iPod touch. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.)
List of External Sync Sources (Mobile Me, Exchange ActiveSync).
Location service preferences for apps and websites you have allowed to use your location.
    Mail accounts.
Managed Configurations/Profiles. When restoring a backup to a different device, all settings related to the configuration profiles will not be restored (accounts, restrictions, or anything else that can be specified through a configuration profile). Note that accounts and settings that are not associated with a configuration profile will still be restored.
Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.
    Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
Network settings (saved wifi spots, VPN settings, network preferences).
Nike + iPod saved workouts and settings.
    Notes.
    Offline web application cache/database.
Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same phone that did the backup).
Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages.
Saved suggestion corrections (these are saved automatically as you reject suggested corrections).
SMS and MMS (pictures and video) messages.
Trusted hosts that have certificates that cannot be verified.
    Voice memos.
Voicemail token (This is not the Voicemail password, but is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card).
    Wallpapers.
    Web clips.
    YouTube bookmarks and history.

  • Why does iTunes keep deleting music from off my iPhone

Ok so my music from iphone keeps deleting itself. I keep having to restore this dumb phone only to lose my information days and sometimes hours later. This is the final straw for me. I've restored this phone 20 times in a week! Im tired of dealing with all of these technical issues so when my contract is up I'm done with this thing. Is there ANYTHING I can do in the meantime to keep from losing my music.

I'll continue the discussion. I find the item in question. There was an app that I had deleted from my iTunes but was still on my iPhone dspite numerous syncs. I deleted the separately from my iPhone and no longer received the warning message described above.
Now however, when I delate an app in iTunes not only does the app stay on the iPhone but I do not even get the warning message.
My next step is to perform a restore. Perhaps this will clear up both this problem and a series of other issues like the wi-fi on/off randomly greying out on the iPhone and having all of my music on the iPhone disappearing after a sync.

  • Itunes has deleted everything i can't get it back :-(

    Hi,
I-Tunes keeps deleting all my music, apps, tv, ringtones. This has been going on since the recent I-Tunes update. It actually deletes the library and genius files and I find them in the trash try to restore them back but it won't have it. I've read a few posts on here and none of that works. I've noticed the music is kept in the music folder so I guess I'm going to have to drag it over and do it that way. I have 100,000 songs. I've even gone so far as to do a full restore on my laptop to clear everything off and start again.  I don't even get time to back up all my new stuff I got yesterday. Its like there's a little person in my laptop wiping it all.
Is it actually a glitch with the new i tune update, if that's the case I won't fully add all my music as its a lot of music to have to add every other day.
Any help would be most grateful.
Oh also when I go into performance to make the new changes the box is un-ticked where it keeps music copied in the library and I always have this ticked.
    thanks again,

  • Why does itunes match delete all songs from my iPhone leaving me music less in the mountains! :(

i went through a drive through the mountains recently needless to say with out radio, only sourse of music... my precious iphone. well aparently after i had subscribed to itunes match it felt the need to go behind my back and delete all the songs i had previously on my phone! *** apple? i had to do an emergency pull over and yank out my macbook and when i pluged it in sure as could be no music stored on the phone so i was apparently streaming music chewing up a huge chunk of my data in little over two hours!i had to shut off itunes match on the macbook and the iphone and sync again just to get some music!!!
There has to have a solution!! why did it do this? Did anybody else have similiar issues?

I have the same problem and I'm not sure this addresses it.  I want to subscribe to iTunes match using my Mac; the intention being that I can then remove all the subset of my tunes from the ipad mini, and when travelling listen to music on the iPad mini via iTunes Match.
So the question still remains, does the music stored on my iPad mini get automatically removed when i subscribe to iTunes Match, or do I have to remove it??
Also, my iPad mini is showing that 1.8GB of storage is taken up by music at the moment, will all of this be freed if I subscribe to iTunes match and delete the music (irrespective of whether this is done manually or via an automatic delete).
    Thank you

  • IPhone sync restore deleted everything !!

Okay, I need some seriously help. I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can explain how to fix this problem to me in "iphone for dummy" terms please let me know.
So my old laptop with everything on it crashed so I got the harddrive completely replaced and everything has been moved to an external harddrive. So on this "new" computer it has nothing on, and when I go to put all my stuff back onto my iphone is says, "This iphone needs to be restored" or something like that.
So I synced  my iphone to my new computer and it says, "This computer has been previously synced with an iPhone or another iOS device." and it's saying to restore it as if it was a brand new iphone. I didn't choose the option yet, but since it restored it, my phone is basically on factory mode. I have nothing on it. Does that means that all my contacts, notes, pictures, etc is being removed forever?
I mean I don't mind the music or apps because I can always reupload it from the external harddrive, but now I don't have my contacts, notes, voice memos, pictures that I have had on my phone for almost 2 years now! I don't know what to do and I am freaking out to be honest. Is there anyway I can fix this??

If you reloaded everything to your laptop from your back ups, you shouldn't have a problem.

  • ITunes 7 deletes everything bug

Its a great feeling when you buy a iPod 80Gig video and download iTunes from the apple website and start synchronising content only to find out the last 10 gig of photo's you uploaded are now deleleted when you try and upload one video file. Enabling manual synchronisation seems like it is getting ignored and before you know it all your iPod content is gone. Is there a fix available for this issue?
    iPod Video 80gig   Windows XP

This might actually be an issue with your firewall and/or anti-virus software. I'm using 7.5 and don't have any issues with it, and I'm also on XP SP2. Did you try closing your firewall and/or anti-virus programs before opening iTunes? You might find that another program was interfering because it thought 7.5 was a new unauthorized program - I think this might esp be true for Norton users.
However, if you want to go back to 7.3 I can help you restore your old library:
    1. Uninstall 7.5 and reinstall 7.3 but don't try to open it yet.
    2. Go to My Music>iTunes>Previous iTunes Libraries. You should see a file called 'iTunes Library 2007-11-11' (or dated whenever you upgraded). Copy this file into the 'iTunes' folder in your 'My Music' folder.
    3. Open the iTunes folder and move the 'iTunes Library.itl' file onto your desktop. Rename the file you just copied to 'iTunes Library.itl'.
    4. Open the 7.3 version - it should look just like it did before!
If this worked you can delete the 'iTunes Library.itl' you moved onto the desktop; if it didn't you'll need to close iTunes, move that file back into the iTunes folder and go back to trying something else with 7.5. The only reason it might not work is because you've reinstalled several times.

  • I'm scared I (iTunes) might delete everything on my iPod!

I recently had to restore my computer so right before I did I enabled the iPod for disk use to save all my songs and pictures. I then re-installed the iPod software and iTunes (4.7.1) using the cd that came with the iPod. So now there is nothing in my iTunes library, which is fine with me because everything is still on my iPod but I'm scared to connect my iPod to the computer and iTunes because I don't know if the iPod preferences are set to manually manage library or automatically synch. If it automatically synches then I will lose everything with no way of getting any of it back. And I know I can't check in the preferences menu because the iPod tab doesn't show anything if it's not connected.
I'm very anxious about what might happen. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • ITunes will delete everything on my phone during upgrade?

I want to upgrade my phone's OS thru iTunes but when I do, I get a popup that says that there are purchased things on my phone that I should transfer to iTunes before I upgrade. Ok. So when I go to do that, I get a popup that says that by syncing I will replace everything on my phone with the data from my iTunes. I have like, nothing in my iTunes. Just music. So it will essentially take everything on my phone and replace it with nothingness from my iTunes. What am I doing wrong?

  • Itunes restore deleted icloud restore

    Hi,
I'm facing a bit of a problem here.
I had two separate backups, each containing different data, one using itunes and one using icloud.
Once I had my new iphone I restored using icloud first, faced no problem there. I then restored using itunes, you know to get the other data. this deleted the data from the first icloud restore.
I beleive I did this they wrong way, any way I can fix it?
Any way I can get the data from the icloud back again?
help would be very much appreciated!

Next time do backups on both (iCloud and iTunes) so that the data is the same.
Or not ... sometimes it is preferable to have a different backup in case something goes awry.  I do my daily backups through iTunes, but once a month (or more frequently) I will do an iCloud backup which can not only serve to rescue me if I need to restore while away from home, it can also get me back to a known state in case a corrupted state gets into my daily backup.

  • Can someone help, i contracted a virus on my laptop that took adminitrative control as a antivirus protector, i could not remove it so i restarted my computer to the factory setting. In doing so I deleted everything on my laptop including all of my songs

I have all my songs on my iphone how do i get them back to itunes library. until that happens i cant sync the phone ot itunes because it will erase all of my songs and i'm trying to preserve them not all my songs were purchased i uploaded cd's and i dont want to have to do that all over again.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
