Does iTunes run better on a Mac than a PC?

I have a PC with Vista on it and I am experiencing a host of problems with iTunes. It's to the point where I'm considering buying a Mac mini. I know all you Mac die-hards will probably tell me that's the only way to go, but does iTunes REALLY run better on a Mac than a PC?
I'd really appreciate an honest opinion before I make the $ investment.

Almost never Jill.
Windows connects iPods as external hard drives. iTunes sees it as an iPod, but sometimes Windows doesn't. In order to disconnect, you have to use the Remove Hardware function in Windows. Apple stuff doesn't really work like that, though you do have to "Eject" drives. It's a little more straight-forward than Windows.
Software on any system can get funky and freeze or close unexpectedly. However, on a Mac, it tends to not happen as much. Again, the software and the system are made by the same people - so it just works together.
I would recommend heading in to an Apple Store if you can and checking out some of their free workshops about iPods and iTunes, talk to a Specialist or two on the sales floor about why they love their Macs, and then test one out. You can set up a Personal Shopping: http://www.apple.com/retail/personalshopping/
They'll have someone waiting for you (and it's often one of their best).
Also, sign up for One-To-One training at the store. You get up to an hour each week, up to 52 weeks and you'll be able to get self-paced, personalized learning out of it. Only $100 too, so it's a great deal. (and let them know that some guy on the Mac forums told you about it .. haha).
Hope some or all of that helps!

Does iTunes offer a restore from other than current data on my pc?  I've lost all my pictures because of lack of disk space on my pc.

Are you talking about restore of the iPhone from its backup, or something else? The first time you sync an iOS device on each calendar day iTunes will update the backup set for the device. If you remove data from the device and backup, then the backup of that data has gone. For this reason it actually makes sense to restore an iOS device periodically as, once used for a restore, the backup set is archived and a new one created.
Ideally you would have backed up these pictures somewhere. If you enabled it, you may find pictures in your Photo Stream.
In general you need to keep a backup copy of all your important files. iTunes will let you download most past purchases from the store but backing up other content is down to you. The user  Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy suggests a way to do this for iTunes, but the same tool can be used to preserve other folders of data.

  • Will os9 run better on older macs

    will it run better

The fastest machines for OS 9 (9.2.2) are those early G4 machines that can run it natively. I had one of the first G4 iMac flatpanel and had two partitions on the drive for OSX and OS9. The fastest would be one of the PowerMacs capable of running OS9. The links detail the specific machines and the Mac OS they are capable of installing.

  • Does iTunes on phone access different store than iTunes on Computer?

I download several daily podcasts directly on my phone and I have noticed, lately, that a podcast will not show up on the phone's iTunes app but DOES show up on the computer's iTunes app. Do the two versions of iTunes actually access two different iTunes Stores?
The podcasts in question eventually show up on the phone's iTunes Store (maybe a day or 2 later).

1 - from what i've seen, it does not look like apple reads these forums. they are all user driven.
2 - i remember reading about this a long time ago that the iPhone store is a little behind the computer store. i would like to think that a company as big as apple is smart enough to create code that can access a single database from anywhere, be it iTunes, and iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, etc, to return results, but there may be considerations that we don't know about, so...

What type of DVDs are you trying to burn?
What are you trying to burn?  As far as I know, iTunes only burn music CDs.  Check iTunes CD settings in Preferences>General
For DVD settings go to System Preferences>CDs & DVDs

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. I have the same problem, they never told me that, just that the newest version of Java "locks" up streaming quotes.

  • Installed RT2500-Replug and now my Mac runs better than ever?!?!

I've been using a Netopia USB wireless Card to side-step my airport issues for about 2 months now. There is a glitch that causes the USB card not to be detected on start-up so someone recommended I download this http://mitglied.lycos.de/thomsmac/RT2500Replug.html but before I did the problem rectified itself for some reason and the card started being detected.
Today I unplugged the Wireless card and started up airport to see in the airport update fixed anything for me. It didn't so I plugged the USB wireless card back in but unfortunately the detection problem returned. I download and installed RT2500-Replug and was shocked. I have no idea why but my Mac is now running better that it ever has in the 3 months I've had it. Webpages are loading instantly, Google earth is silky smooth. Not only that but applications are launching faster! I've checked my states and for some reason my Macs RAM usage has been cut by one quarter.
Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? The difference is so noticeable its almost worrying. Might I have had some kind of conflict that the downloading RT2500-Replug might have solved?

You're going to have to give us a LOT more details than that!
Specifically which OS did you install? You say "latest version of Leopard", but that was 10.5. 10.6 is "Snow Leopard". Go to the Apple menu, click About This Mac. That tells you the exact OS version. Give us the processor speed that's there, too, and let us know the approximate (or exact, if you have it) age of your Mac.
How much RAM (memory) do you have installed? Again, it's under About This Mac.
How much hard drive space do you have available? Click on the "Macintosh HD" on your desktop, click cmd-i and look for "Capacity" and "Available".

  • Is one brand of printer better doing photo work on Macs than the others?

    Hi,
I'm still having issues with trying to print photos. Text is fine - photos are an endless source of frustration.
The only program that I seem to have that will allow for printing one sheet of photo paper with 4 different photos on it is PhotoShop Elements. But its print program is telling me that my prints may not be as good because my printer isn't a "PostScript" printer. It's right, my prints are awful. When I pull up my info about my Mac and look at the printer info, it lists a version of PostScript [version (3010.000) 705] so it must be a PostScript printer - but the computer or PhotoShop isn't picking up on that.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX620 all in one. A tech guy at Apple told me that all in ones can be touchy.
Those of you who do photo work; Have you found that there is a brand of printer that works better with your Mac? Should I get a photo printer and scanner seperately, instead of the all in one?
I have old photos and slides that I'm wanting to work with so I need the scanner.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Pearl

  • HT4783 It does appear that compatiblity between different Macs is a problem. On my 2008 iMac Aperture is still OK but my MBAir of 2011 reports it won't run! The iMac seemingly won't run Airdrop because it is "old". Huh? Now the better DropCopy fails on th

Sorry for the lengthy title, I wasn't clear what I was doing.
Anyway I have two Macs. iMac from 2008 and 2011 MacbookAir. Airdrop I thought really poor when it appeared and no competiiton for DropCopy. My iMac, I'm pretty sure ran Airdrop to begin with but now at just over 3 years old is effectively obselete. Then to add insult to injury DropCopy is OK on the MBA but crashes repeatedly on the iMac.
So, I removed the Dropcopy and went to the App Store to reinstall it but it showed as "installed". That's it. What's Windows 8 like?

Go and have a look but you are nit gonna like what you see.
You have not mentioned what systems you are running on the two Macs, if they are on a network etc. That info would help a fair bit.
    Thanks

Adobe Creative Cloud - has anybody had any luck running Adobe CC on a new mac mini? Does it run slow for Photoshop?

Adobe CC applications are very large and the base Mac mini isn't a good choice because it has only 4GB of RAM and has a slow standard hard drive. To get the most out of ACC you should upgrade the mini to at least 8GB. I'd also choose an SSD or Fusion drive for better performance.

  • Does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?

does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?
    Background:
    * just trying to decide what to go for re video editing app with more features than iMovie
    * last time I'd tried Adobe Premiere Elements on my MacBook (but it was before I had an SSD) the performance was not good - it was sluggish to the point I really didn't want to use it
    * so this question is just about whether in general FCP X performs better on a Mac (you'd think it would no, as it's made/optimized for a Mac)
    My MacBook:
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Elements is essentially an amateur app and Premiere a professional one similar to the discontinued Final Cut Pro 7.
FCP X is a radical new approach to editing which like Marmite, you either love or hate.
It is probably between the 2 in capabitlity but much closer to Premiere.
Some might say it was better than Premiere, whilst other long standing broadcast editors would disagree.
It all depends on your standpoint and I am trying to give an unbiased appraisal.
Some of the techniques it uses are way ahead of all other apps and this is what worries people who have an established way of working, though as I mentioned in another post, there are a few omissions which have upset those editors.
Some might say (echoes of Jeremy Clarkson) that FCP X is the most advanced editing app on the planet albeit with a few teething troubles.
