Does itunes support .flac?

Can iTunes play .flac files? Can it do so natively or be modified to do so? Can it import .flac files, converting them to .mp3 or .mp4 or .aac or something?
Thanks!

yes.

what you can do is convert the FLACs to Apple Lossless files.  either of these free apps can do that for you.

  • What Audio Formats Does iTunes Supports?

is there a way to find out what formats iTunes supports?
for example, does iTunes support OptimFROG Loseless or FLAC Loseless?
    thanks.

iTunes uses Quicktime for audio playback and plays Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF, MP3 and AAC files. If you want to play other formats, you generally have to convert them to a format iTunes supports (I use Apple Lossless myself). iTunes to FLAC is a group of Applescripts enabling FLAC file conversion in iTunes. For a guide to enabling OGG support in iTunes, see here. Other file conversion tools I use are Max and xAct.

  • What files formats does Itunes support

what files formats does Itunes support???
Been trying to load some anime into Itunes and they wont play on my Apple Tv, though they play on the computer. Why is that. I've got codes and all that other jazz. What gives....

iTunes 11 can currently read, write and convert between MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC and Apple Lossless (.m4a).
iTunes can also play any audio files that QuickTime can play (as well as some video formats), including Protected AAC files from the iTunes Store and Audible.com audio books. There is limited support for Vorbis and FLAC enclosed in an Ogg container (files using the Ogg container format are not natively supported) or Speex codecs with the Xiph QuickTime Components. Because tag editing and album art is done within iTunes and not QuickTime, these features will not work with these QuickTime components. As of Snow Leopard, iTunes 9 (Mac) will play HE-AAC / AAC+ internet streams. The latest version of iTunes (Win/Mac) supports importing audio CDs with the default iTunes standard file format of AAC at 256 kbit/s, but users can choose from 16 kbit/s to 320 kbit/s constant bit rates (CBR) in either AAC or MP3.[citation needed] Importing of audio CDs into MP3 or AAC formats can also be accomplished using variable bitrate (VBR) encoding.
The Windows version of iTunes can automatically transcode DRM-free WMA (including version 9) files to other audio formats, but does not support playback of WMA files and will not transcode DRM protected WMA files. Telestream, Inc. provides free codecs for Mac users of QuickTime to enable playback of unprotected Windows Media files. These codecs are recommended by Microsoft.[34]
In addition to importing CDs into the iTunes library, the user can also import non-Apple mp3 files from Amazon.com and other sources. This can be accomplished by either right clicking on the file, selecting open with, and then selecting iTunes or dragging the file into the open iTunes window. Alternatively, for Amazon.com mp3s, the Amazon MP3 Downloader application will automatically import the mp3 files into the iTunes library.

  • Does iTunes support Windows 8.1 yet?

Does iTunes support Windows 8.1? The last time I downloaded 8.1 I had problems working with iTunes and when I called support was told it did not support 8.1 yet.

  • Does itunes support divX?

Does itunes support divx? or do i have to change the format in order to play it? if so what's the best format?

According to the Specification it won't support Divx.
And apparently the USB is only for servicing purposes at this stage, but I suspect it could be for a future Tuner add-on to allow PVR capabilities?

  • Itunes support deauthorized myaccount and ignores all emails for 5 days. 6 emails have gone unanswered except for automated responses. Does ITunes support exist anymore? Calls to apple support tell me they can only chat with ITunes which is down for 4 day

My ITunes account had an unauthorized charge. I changed my password and notified ITunes support. They disabled the account, told me to chnge the password and then they would re enable the account. I emailed back that the password was changed, they have not answered or re enabled the account. I have emailed the non-existent person who disabled the account and ITunes support 5 times but the only response has been an automated one. Calls to Apple support only and I was told the ITunes chat for them has been down for 4 days. No answers and no way to get a human respond and no way to get the ITunes account turned back on. Does anybody actually work at ITunes support? Is there anyway to get a human on the phone or chat directly at ITunes support to re enable the account? I am totally fed up with this complete lack of support or response.

Find another app to make an inexpensive purchase from.  I know there's stuff for like 99 cents.
If you can make that purchase, but not one with Blood Brothers, then what does that tell you?

  • When does iTunes supports  AAC+ / MPEG4 radio live streams?

I like listening radio live streams thru airTunes on my stereo. Unfortunately at the moment the swiss national radio station does not support iTunes as e.g. www.kcrw.com. They answered they will jump one step further to AAC+ / MPEG4 as new standard formats. But of course iTunes does not support this new standard either. Has anyone a clue if iTunes will support these new formats? thanks

  • Does itunes support m4a files?

I am running latest itunes and have some music. The music is m4a and windows doesn't seem to recognise it. If I link it from my documents to itunes, like I do with all my music,  will itunes support/accept/play it?
    Thanks
    Josh

.m4a can be AAC (lossey) or Apple Lossless aka. ALAC which as its name suggests is a lossless format.
Both use the same file extension and tag format. Any .m4a file is not protected by DRM.
Windows Media Player since Windows7 has supported AAC as standard but still does not support Apple Lossless as standard. However it is possible to install a directshow filter which can play both in WMP.
Unfortunately in their stupidity, Microsoft even though they are the same file extension, file format, and tag format and even though both can be played by WMP with this directshow filter, WMP specifically checks to see if it is Apple Lossless and then puts it in 'other' instead of 'music'.
Fortunately a developer has written a plugin for WMP to trick it to thinking Apple Lossless is the same as AAC and it then ends up in music as desired. As a result it can be played, can be put in the correct section and WMP even automatically recognises the meta-tags including embedded album artwork!
I have all my music in Apple Lossless and shared between iTunes, WMP and even Microsoft Media Center.

  • How many currencies does iTunes support?

Im trying to understand how many currencies iTunes supports?  And which ones?

    Robin,
I have never seen that number published anywhere.  However, you may be able to infer it by reviewing the list of countries in which there is an iTunes Store.  You can find the list here:

  • [FEATURE REQUEST] - dlna client in Xperia WALKMAN Android app does not support flac or ogg files

Hi, I have found a pretty bad bug in the dlna support in the WALKMAN android app for Xperia phones.
Please could a mod or a community person who is in contact with the developers, pass this info on to them and ask them to please work on it.
I have the latest updated Version 8.3.A.0.5 of the WALKMAN android app installed on a SONY XPERIA Z mobile phone and I have a dlna server set up and running on my local network.
If I download, install and use the DNLA Total Media app available in the Google play store instead of the WALKMAN app, I can play flac and m4a files; no problem.
However, if I use the WALKMAN app to browse to my dlna server and try to play flac or m4a files, I get a small black box on screen that says "Content not available."
If I browse to and select an mp3 file instead, the WALKMAN app will play (stream) the mp3 file and no small black box will appear.
So it looks like the dlna part of the SONY WALKMAN app is missing support for some audio file container types which are supported by default on the Android operating system and work natively in the WALKMAN app (I tested play back from internal storage.) I believe ogg format playback is missing also. Because it is not required by the dlna specification.
Please improve file type support in the dlna client part of the WALKMAN app for XPERIA phones. People working in professional audio environments don't use mp3 anymore (And haven't done for over five years.)
    Thank You

    Thanks for the feedback!
As you say, i believe the DLNA standard doesn't have any support for flac and ogg but i've seen some 3:rd party apps that can do it but i'm not sure if those uses DLNA in that case or just UPnP. I will forward your feedback though.
The only solution for this that i know of today is to use a 3:rd party app or perhaps mount the share using SMB instead from Settings -> Storage.

  • Does itunes support intel x3100 graphics  for watch video and tv shows in itunes:  not working

Hi I have a asus p5k-vm motherboard with intel 3100 onboad graphics accelerator. I had a gtx 570 video card install and was using itunes
to watch video and tv shows. I sold my gtx 570 and I am using intel x3100 onboard graphics accelerator as my video card. Everything works
fine until I try to watch video or tv shows in itunes. When it tries to start, the screen starts and then right awat it stop and shuts down becuse of some error. I don't know what the problem is.
    Please help.

Since updating to 5.0 numerous people have had an issue with optical out. . Try Restart your ATV & computer. Also cycle the power on the ATV and TV (unplug it for 30sec). You should also submit a bug report directly to Apple since they DO NOT read these forums

  • ITunes and FLAC, SHN Files?

Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to make iTunes support .FLAC files and/or SHN files? How come apple will not include these codecs?
Hello apple! Please support .FLAC and .SHN in iTunes!!!
    Thanks!

As long as you're only going to be using the files in iTunes or an iPod, there's nothing wrong with Apple Lossless, and it'll give you the same quality as AIFF in a smaller space.
You can always convert to AIFF if you change your mind at any point.
Have you heard iTunes' AAC encoder recently? I revisited it awhile ago, and was pleasantly surprised. Since then I've backed up all my Apple Lossless files onto DVD, and converted my iTunes library to 160 kbps VBR AAC. It gives a very passable quality in a much smaller file size.
If you're intent on preserving the original sound of the CD though, Apple Lossless is definitely the way to go (on a Mac anyway).

  • Future support flac in iTunes

    Hi,
Since April 2004 I'm a very satisfied user of the iPod Photo 60GB and iTunes and ripped all my 1200 cd's into 320kbps AAC-files. Because I loved the way iTunes works with the iPod I was planning to buy a Macbook for next year!
Some weeks ago I bought myself an Onkyo AV-receiver with Phonar P5.5 speakers though... And now I need a lossless audio codec that is supported by iTunes, the AVR and Synology DS410, but unfortunately only WAV is supported by all 3. But the lack of an ID3-tag makes it no option for me and ALAC or FLAC got my attention.
ALAC, however, is not supported by the Onkyo-receiver and Synology-nas and I emailed them both if this will happen in the near future. Onkyo responded that they are working on it but don't know when this will be solved.
    Now my questions:
    1. When will FLAC be supported in iTunes?
    2. And will an update for my iPod add support for FLAC (or will future iPods have it...)?
FLAC in iTunes or ALAC in receiver and nas will solve my problem and I would hate the idea of uninstalling iTunes when none of these 2 solutions will possible.
PS: It goes without saying that I'll lose the interest I have in buying a Macbook if my future lossless audiofiles are not widely supported.
PPS: I also filled in the Apple feedback form about this, but hopefully somebody here can help/inform me sooner :-)(http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html).

I'm just saying I'm just ONE user who is enough satisfied with iTunes/iPod that I'm considering buy a Macbook in stead of computer with Windows like I always did. By coincidence I received a popup on the Apple-site to fill in a survey, so if Apple is not interested in my view (or of others) then why bother asking people to fill in surveys.
Besides, I don't think I'm alone in this: With the increased bandwiths, cpu-power, almost unlimited datacapacities and increase of the popularity of DLNA I think it's time Apple start seeing that (even MS does with their support in W7)!
To say it just plain and simple: If Apple doesn't give a rat's *** about it's potential customers and their demands from a marketing point of view then they aren't worth me and others having as a customer. But I hope it never ends up like that and I can keep on using iTunes (with FlAC-support or ALAC-support from other makers).
The following reasons keep me from ripping my music into FLAC are (hopefully the marketing people of Apple take notice ):
    1. Within short notice Apple implements support for FLAC in iTunes (and their iPods);
    2. Within short notice Onkyo and Synology implements support for ALAC in their products.
    3. I lose hope 1 or 2 will ever happen and when my 6 year old iPod dies I have no reason anymore to not start ripping my music into FLAC. The consequence though, is that the only (forget WMA-lossless!!!) lossless codec that works with DLNA doesn't work in iTunes so this program becomes unuseful. But I still want a notebook but why buy a Macbook if the audiofilesystem isn't widely supported???
PS: Again, I know I'm just ONE person, but I hope somebody important will read my comments here and starts thinking about the consequence if more people agree with me....
