Does iweb 06 reduce image size, or only compress it?

my concern is the final file size of my site, and the time it takes for people to upload pages with my artwork photos. when I drag an image from photoshop onto my iweb site, it automatically shrinks the image, and then i expand it to fit my formatted pages.
but when i click on "original size" in the inspector, it shows the full size image, which is much larger than what i want,... and I assume this is the actual pixel size on the site. so, do i have to shrink the image BEFORE i drag it into iweb, or.....not?

Hi Roddy,
I checked out your website for PhotoStuff. How did you make the "Don't steal...Get your own" message appear when you click on the photo? I am intrigued! I am new to making my own website (with iWeb) and I am trying to prevent "click & steal" downloads. I'm also having trouble figuring out how to configure file sizes in iPhoto...etc. I don't have Photoshop ..yet.
Thanks!
Sweet Sis

  • Does iweb reduce file size photos automatically?

    Not sure if I need to do this. I have created a a slideshow page, and was dragging my photos from iphoto and was wondering if I need to make them smaller in "file size" before uploading or does iweb do that automatically?

    This Apple doc may help:

    Select the photo(s) and export (file menu ==> export) them. You can change the size there setting a maximum pixel dimension and/or reducing quality

    Hi Frank: After you have selected the photo for the email and started to compose the email, check on the right  side of the window. There it will show the image file size, tap there and it will give you options for the photo size. Hope this helps.

  • Does reducing image size reduce image quality?

    i 'm new to AI and also to this forum.
    I know that enlarging and image can reduce image quality.
    I'd like to know if reducing the image size (not in pixels, but in actual size),
    will reduce the quality?
    i have a Ai file that's 600x300, and need to reduce it to 300x120 my websie.
    Before I convert it to a web format, I want to reduce this large Ai file to 300x120.
    Will i still lose quality even if it's still an Ai file, before converting to web format???
    thanks!!!!!

    No it is however best to use save for the web to do so for the best optimization.
    keep in mind the only lose in quality will be if some one grabbed it off of the website and tried to enlarge it or view it at a larger display size.
    What you want to do is the best way of reducing the size.

  • Reducing file size #1...what exactly does file, reduce file size do?

    Questions on reducing a pages to pdf file size…I will post each question seperatly.
    1) I was surprised to see page reduce file size take it from 50 megs to 20 megs…when I looked at a large jpeg file, its size went form 230k to 70k, but the entire image (not just the visible part after the mask) was there (I was hoping it would crop to the mask).
    I am curious, what exactly is reduce file size doing?
    Is it applying a quartz filter that I can control through colorsync (I think not)?
    Thanks, bob

    You will need to test the results, but I suspect it is definitely lowering the resoltion to either screen resolution (72dpi) or double (150dpi) and upping the compression of the .jpegs.
    In contrast to the Quartz filters, the results from file reduction in Pages is disappointing with a hefty loss of quality for not so much file reduction.
    I would work with known distiller settings in Acrobat Pro for a better result.

  • Quicktime Pro: When Exporting for Web, how much does it reduce file size?

    I'm considering purchasing Quicktime Pro so I can reduce the file size of Quicktime movies so they load quickly to be viewed on my website. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be able to reduce the size of a Quicktime file?

    I will try some. 50-100 kB for a 4-color PDFs sounds high if any compression at all is used in the graphic. I would suggest that you look a bit at the graphics. They may not be "16-color" graphics (you may have used 4 colors, but the graphic storage would have to be 16 color, 256 color, or millions of colors and I suspect the storage is millions of colors that a lot of scans default to). You could use PhotoShop or simply IrfanView to check the properties of the colors of the images. That would be the first step I would suggest.
    Once you have the colors set, then save them as TIFF to minimize loss in the graphic. TIFF has several options for compression and I really can't advise you there. Just select whatever is the default compression. I created a 8.5X11 image with 72dpi and 16 colors, getting a 55 kB file. The corresponding PDF was 60 kB. There is pixelization and such, but that is something for you to test.
    Once you you have reasonable graphics, then consider the PDF. As I said, I ended up with a 60 kB PDF. A segment of the PDF is shown below as a JPeg:
    When you put the files together, use Save As to finalize the PDF. Working on the graphics first is probably the best way to fix the issue, rather than dealing with the PDF directly. This allows you to clean up the PDFs and be sure that you have the level of colors (not millions, even if you only use 4) etc.

  • Reduce image size and print it out?

    I scanned an image (coloring on a postcard). This size is too big to fit into a 'album' picture in MS Picture It! All I want to do is REDUCE the image and save it so that it will fit into the computer photo album I'm creating.
    I've tried Image/Resize/Image Size and changed the sizing, but it still comes out the exact same size as the original. What am I doing wrong?

    > I want to REDUCE the image, not enlarge it.
    I understood that - what makes you think I didn't?
    > It's 948x645 pixels. I just want the image about an inch (respectively) smaller
    You can't think in terms of inches for screen images. You have to work in pixels and the actual size will depend upon the screen resolution on the machine being used to view the image.
    I'd reduce the pixel size by about 80 to get the effect that you want. Use Image/Resize/Image Size and make sure that you have "Resample" checked.

  • Iweb slideshow image size

    The "Play Slideshow" option in iWeb Photo pages actually shows my photos same size or even smaller than the photos on the page. They look tiny in the middle of the large black modern viewer..
    Why is this? If I chose to click directly on one of the photos, another "inline" viewer appears, and here the photos are larger - as I would expect them to be in the slideshow.
    I am very found of the iWeb fotopages that lets me make real photo albums with title text (as in the old "Homepage". I have tried to upload Large (high quality) photos, but this does not increase the size of the photos in the slideshow.
    What is wrong here? Can anyone give me some input on these settings please? Thanks!

    I believe the maximum dimension size of Photo Album Slideshows is 800 pixels. So anything larger will only display at 800 pixels.

  • How to reduce image size on account of disk space shortage?

    I import images from my camera to iPhoto on my MacBook. I want to reduce their size on import because hard disk space on MacBook is limited.
    Is there any smart way how to perform it? I have not found any presets on Import dialog to reduce size.

    If the photos are important then get an external FW hard drive and move the library to it and operate from there. Delete the library from your MacBook.
    Next create a new library on the MB and copy only the photos that you have an immediate need for from the external library with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will copy the metadata, keywords, faces, places, and edited versions between libraries. You will a lean, mean travelin' library for the MB.
    You you add photos to the library on the MB while you're on the road you can copy them to the main library in the same manner with iPLM when you get back home.

  • How to Reduce Image Size and show upload Progress Bar

    i need to capture an image from the camera and send it to the server. however to reduce the amount of data transmitted i want to shrink the image and lower its resolution.
    I have code that currently does the following :
    UIImage *testImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"image1.png"]; // this would come from image picker
    NSData * imageData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(testImage);
    // skipped code that showed URL string setup
    NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [imageData length]];
    NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] init] autorelease];
    [request setURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]];
    [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"];
    [request setValue:postLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"];
    [request setHTTPBody:imageData];
    NSURLConnection *conn=[[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
    1. need some way to shrink the image size to reduce data traffic
    2. need some way to indicate a progress bar as data is being transfered to the server

    1. The size is visible in the metadata panel, set the dropdown to EXIF. In addition, in the Grid, with Ctrl-J, you can set the options so that you will see the cropped size in the rectangle surrounding the photo.
    2. You cannot, in one action, upload to multiple galleries. Each upload is its own action. I don't know if there is a plug-in to let you upload from LR to 500px in one action; clearly there are plug-ins for Flickr and Smugmug and several others. There should be no need to re-import. Normally, the plug-ins I mentioned will take a TIFF, resize it according to your directions, convert to JPG and upload.

  • Reduce image size in pages by cropping ??

    Hello,
    I created a pages document with a lot of masked images in it. the resulting pdf file is massive. As described in the Pages manual, I tried the reduce the image file size (format menu) and the document file size (file menu). But instead of reducing the size by deleting the the parts of the images that are covered by the mask (as written in the manual), it reduces the image resolution, which I don't want.
    Question: How can I reduce the image file size by cropping and not by reducing the resolution.
    I learnt a lot today in other forums on how to edit quartz filters, so I know how to manipulate resolution afterwards for pdf's for mail and print. Cropping images before inserting them into Pages I don't find a real option. Thank's for yor help.

    I reported it to Apple via the feedback button. I also added a little wishlist for the next version.
    I think if Pages would crop the excess parts of an image covered by a mask during the pdf export would solve the problem already because imho these not visible parts are often the reason for the massive pdf file sizes. The images are completely embedded and masked in pdf's.
    Does anybody know a pdf tool that does that? I tried PDFshrink and PDFpen so far, but they both don't.
    Would also be cool to have an Automator action that adjusts resolution via edited quartz filters and crops the invisible stuff off ...

  • Reduce image size ( un-enlarge )

    I have a digital image of a house. I want to make a Christmas tree ornament that will have a picture of just the front door. The door in a 4x6 print is about 3x4. I want to reduce that to about 2x3. I am only able to print on 4x6 paper, so I want to reduce the image size then print a 4x6 which would orobably have a large white border.
    How can I do this?

    Cliff
    1. Open picture file
    2. Access rectangular marquee tool. In the options bar, select mode:fixed size, enter w=2", h=3". Position the box with the "marching ants" to include the door.
    3. Go to Image>crop
    4. Go to Edit>copy. This puts the door on the clipboard.
    5. Open a new blank file, background white, 4X6", the size of your paper stock, and set resolution the same as that of the picture. Note that for printing it is desirable to have a resolution of 240-300px/in
    6. Go to Edit>paste
    The parameters in step #2 can be refined to reflect the actual door size.
    If you want to have a background other than white, you certainly can to this. In step #5, you can select the foreground color of your choice. Just set the foreground color chip (lower left) to the desired color.
    It is also possible to paste the selection on to a texture background, etc.
    HTH. Let us know how you make out.

  • Camera raw reducing image size

    All of a sudden Camera Raw is automatically reducing my image sizes. I cannot figure out why. The images were shot with a Nikon 5100 if that has any value.
    The original jpg size is 15MB (jpg) and have a NEF extension.
    I've tried opening the image in Photoshop and then going through Bridge to Camera Raw, and opening the image through Bridge to Photoshop and the image gets reduced from 16 inches to 5 inches keeping 300 dpi.
    Thanks in advance.!

    The only important “image size” is pixel dimensions.
    JPGs have a JPG extension.  An NEF extension means it’s a raw file.
    Things that affect DPI/PPI and pixel dimensions are in the workflow options link at the bottom of the main ACR window, and only if you output the images to some other format in ACR.

  • Save As Does NOT Reduce File Size

    I have tried everything to reduce the file size of my Adobe Acrobat Pro X Form with Save As (Reduce File Size, As Optimized, etc...).  Unfortunately, the file size does not reduce.  I send to a friend who has Acrobat 9 and he is able to reduce the file from 45mb to 182kb...what gives?  He sent my original file to his co-worker who has Acrobat Pro X and he has the same issue that I do.  This appears to be a version issue. Any help would be appreciated as I have about 150 of these that I need to get down to a reasonable file size.

    Actually, I found something else. It's very curious.
    The form fields themselves are OK, and there is only one tiny copy of CopperPlate Light.
    There is a place in a PDF where there is supposed to be a copy of each font used a form field. This lists (presumably) every font you own and then some - over 500 fonts, all embedded. This is clearly not what you wanted and not what the software should do.
    It would be interesting to know the life cycle of this form (by which I mean how it was born and what happened along the way). It was made with Acrobat 10 from Word, but that (presumably) didn't do the bad thing. Can you remember what happened to the file in the mean time? Was it only EVER edited in Acrobat X, or were any other utilities used on it - even if they didn't seem to be related to form fields at all? Do you have any old copies before it grew in size?
