Does iWeb can be used without .Mac account?

For example, on any server via FTP or any other methods.
Thanks

Yes, the problem is when the server forces the wrong encoding.
http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebchars.html
The page above does not fix the problem, it talks about the issue but does not solve it. And the pages that that page refers to talks about .htaccess file setup.
Many people are working on this issue and so far no solution.
IIS web servers may work fine, it's the unix servers using Apache that are not able to work with iweb. Line one of the code in all .html files is the problem. When I delete that line of code, the iweb pages work. This is not a good fix because everytime you update your website in iweb you would have to delete that first line of code again and again and again. The only fix is to figure out the proper .htaccess file encoding to get the server to read the files properly.
So far no one can do this.

  • Can't use my .Mac account in iChat

Does anyone have the server address and port for .Mac? My computer thinks I am trying to connect to the AOL server.

    Hi,
Umm, now we enter the muddy waters of what is an Apple ID and where can it be used.
You can create an Apple ID for Logging in here at Discussions, iTunes, the On line Store and a few other places like the Developers areas.
In most cases this ends up being an Email address that you have.
You certainly have to list an Email for contact and for retrieval of Passwords and such.
Using the iChat "Get an iChat Account" option in iChat 4 when set to the @Mac.com setting (And the MobileMe and @Mac.com options in iChat 5) will take you to this page to register for an @mac.com name
At this point some history may help.
@mac.com names were the email names that Apple gave when people registered for the .Mac Service that preceded MobileMe.
At that time a Trial accounts worked in iChat forever, as did Lapsed accounts.
MobileMe does allow Trial accounts but the name as a valid iChat Screen Name stops working once the Trial is cancelled.
Apple Email addresses from @Mac.com or MobileMe (@Me.com) are automatically Apple IDs
They are also automatically Valid AIM Screen Names (iChat Names)
So. You Apple ID if based on an Email that does not come from Apple is not likely to be an Valid AIM screen Name.
Therefore in the screen in iChat > Preferences > Accounts > + Button at bottom of list, you cannot use the @mac.com option (Or the MobileMe option) and enter the Apple ID as the Name. (If that is what you meant by "create")
If you go on to select @mac.com or the MobileMe option and then hit the Button "Get an iChat Account" it will depend which version of iChat you are using as to where you get Linked to.
All options including the AIM one lead to the Apple @mac.com name registration if using iChat 4
In iChat 5 the AIM one leads to the AIM Registration one and both Apple ones lead to the @mac.com page.
    Stated another way.
Any Apple Email ID is also an Apple ID (iTunes, Stores, Discussions) AND An Valid AIM Screen name - Logging in then need the password to be 16 characters or Less.
Any Apple ID not based on an Apple Email is NOT an Valid AIM Screen Name.
    <hr>
    There's more.
Any @Mac.com name will work in iChat. If this was registered before the MobileMe service began AND the account was paid for - at the start of MobileMe you got a @me.com and for Email Purposes these could be linked and you could effectively still use the @mac.com ending one with the MobileMe service. (They are somewhat interchangeable in Mail)
On the iChat front though, this gives you TWO iChat Screen Names. (They are not Interchangeable here)
I hope all this lets you see where you are at.

  • Can i use my mac account to go online or check emails if i'm in italy?

or do i need more software or bluetooth devices? please email me

Most of the documentation I have seen regarding 802.11b or g WiFi wireless access in Italy indicates that hot spots are commercial operations, requiring pay-as-you-go or subscription fees. There appear to be many such providers in a crowded market, and short term connections are liable to be expensive under such circumstances. If you are planning to travel in Italy extensively, it may prove much easier for you to routinely connect to the internet via a T-Mobile HotSpot account, or a similar subscription program with another single provider offering many connection points.
This link shows the location of all T-Mobile HotSpots in Italy, and provides information about creating a subscriber account:
    https://selfcare.hotspot.t-mobile.com/locations/retrieveGlobalLocationByCountry. do?country=IT
Other wireless providers are likely to offer similar services.
While I don't often use a T-Mobile HotSpot account where I live —because there are so many free options—I have used one extensively while traveling throughout the US.

I want to use my @me email for my itunes to kind of keep everything organized without using so many different emails. When I go to edit my email address it tells me I can't use an existing account, but it's mine...

The problem is that you try to merge different Apple IDs (your old account and your me.com account) which is not possible. Apple will not let you do that.
    Quote: "Can I merge multiple Apple IDs into one?&#8232;
You cannot merge two or more Apple IDs into a single one. You can, however, use one Apple ID for iCloud services and another Apple ID for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). See “Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases” above for details."

  • Can I add my MSN contacts to iChat using my .Mac account?

I was wondering if there is anyway to add my MSN contacts on to iChat using my Mac account. I know that it is possible using a Jabber account and using my MSN account on iChat, but since I am paying for a .Mac account I might as well maximize its capabilties.
    Please help,
    shivsensarma

You can not add MSN Buddies to the AIm Buddy List.
You can however create a Jabber ID and then with a Third Party App link to what is called a Transport that will connect you to the MSN Service for Text Only chats.
Read the first two links in this section
    http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_jabber
The third link is the most up-to-date List of Jabber Servers with Transports I have found.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my link to my website.

  • Using my .mac account on iChat AV (problems)

Hi, I've been using iChat AV with my .mac account since december, and it was all fine 'til some weeks ago.
From the end of may 2006 I have many problems using my .mac account in iChat AV.
Sometimes I can connect, but usually I can't connect! And the problem is the same on my iMac G5, on my old iBook G4 12" 1.33, and on my new MacBook 1.83...
When I try to enter with a AIM account it's fine and I connect!
But all my friends have my .mac account and I want to use it!
    Can anyone help me?
P.S. I tried to use programs like adiumX, but I still have the same connection problem using my .mac account! And I still pay for it!!!!

    Hi maurizio79,
Every now and then AIM sort out what they think are unused account names and make them available again.
Whilst they are doing this there are often problems with .mac names for some reason.
After the period that lots of people were having problems, there have been cases of invidual .mac users who have problems.
The solution is to speak to .mac and ask them to look into it.

  • If i can't use my @me account as my apple id, then, what's the point of creating the @me account ???

So what's the use of the @me account if you can't use it as an Apple ID, I just created an @me account so i can steer away from my current email address (which is linked to my internet provider) this way i would have the choice to leave them if i please without loosing my email address.
Apple told me and I quote "you can not use an @me.com nor can you use an @mac.com address as an apple id, you should first create a @gmail.com for example if you don't want to have a domain related address that's tied in to your ISP".
Am i missing something here??? what's wrong with this picture. You need to create an mail address somewhere just so you can create an "apple service" email address.
    Sincerely
    I don't get it.

I spent 2.5 hrs on the phone a couple of nights ago with apple tech support, basically it boils down to this:
You need an existing apple ID to create an iCloud account (@me.com)
The reason for this, the Apple tech told me, is that they want people who own and use Apple products to to have a @me.com in other words they don't want the service to be like a gmail or yahoo that just anybody signs up for.
In my opinion they should simply have it as follows: you buy and register an Apple product you're entitled to "X" amount of @me.com addresses per person, per device up to a maximum of whatever amount. if that number is 5 upto a maximum of 15 that would make sense, you now have enough @me.com address for a familly that could be created as sub addresses of the parent in charge of the account.
    Make sense???

  • How do i set up a 2nd email for my 10yr old using my .mac account

I'm been fumbling around trying to figure out how to add a new mail account for my 10 yr.old without messing with my own .mac account. I've set up a new user account but when I go to the mail program, I just don't get how to set up a 2nd account using my .mac account. is it possible?

You need to upgrade to a Family Pack account, and then create a subaccount.
