Does Keynote 6.0 no longer support Transparent GIF or Quicktime Animations?

So, I have some sample files here:
Bees and Honey Clear Quicktime

Moving on...
At my company, we create images, animations, video backgrounds and templates for PowerPoint and Keynote etc.  Keynote '09 (iwork '09) and PowerPoint 2008 and 2011 on the Mac, all work.  Now we're hearing that the transparent backgrounds are no longer being recognized (black background instead of clear).  Is anyone able to check this for me and let me know if there is a workaround or something? I can't find any documentation on how Quicktime changed with Maverick or Keynote 6, so need to do real world testing I'm only running '09 on my Mac and won't have Keynote 6 for another 2 weeks or so.
Please let me know, I may be able to throw in a free subscription to our website for someone who can help me with this.

Hello all... I'm maybe a little late to the party here, but I've had the same trouble for a while with both animated Transparent gifs and quicktime movies with an alpha channel matte.
This morning I spent half an hour tinkering with the export options from quicktime player pro on my old laptop (I used QT 7.6.6 on OSX 10.8.5) and managed to make a "transparent" quicktime movie which plays in the new version of Keynote.
If you have access to the old version of quicktime player pro, you can open your transparent, previously playable file (.gif or .movie) and use the ProRes compressor, using the "4444" option in the list of compressors. Make sure the colours are set to "millions+" to retain the matte and you shoud be OK.
It works a charm... you have to re-import it, simply replacing the original file in the finder seemingly doesn't work, but you can use this method to generate a working version and take 30 seconds to re-import it into the keynote.
Yes, the files are much larger than gifs. Yes it's a lot of messing around if you're not familiar with movies. But in principle it worked for me and sorted out a whole heap of my problems.
Just for note, I've not tried exporting it to Powerpoint as I've no need to do so, or way to test it, but I guess that is a different matter.
Hope that makes sense!

  • Does itunes u descriptions no longer support line breaks?

Hi. I've got a faculty member that wants all of his course recordings available on itunes u. Previously, he would write a description for each session which I would post in the description field. Now, it appears that the description field no longer supports line breaks. Content generated prior to June is fine but all new content just runs on in one long paragraph. Anyone else seeing this problem?

The collection is in the iTunes U directory. I'll have to breadcrumb you there since I don't know how to direct link. So, go to the University of Washington, Social Science, T536 Taxation of Trans-Pacific Transactions. In the description, you will see it is one giant paragraph, no formatting. Before we were converted to the new template (apple template, not our own) in April, this was formatted properly. I've created new collections and they also suffer from this same issue so it isn't simply a matter of the conversion. Thanks you for your help!

  • Upgrading to OS10.9.2 I lost my Office 2004 Student Teacher program.  Can I reinstall Office or does 9.2 upgrade no longer supports 2006 Student Teacher?  Tnx,

When upgrading from OS 10.8.6 to 10.9.2 I lost my MS Office 2004 Student Teacher editon software.
This included Word, Excel, Power Point and Entourage.
Is this because 9.2 does not support this older Office program?  Do I need to up grade Office or do I just need to reinstall 2004 Office.
I no longer can enter any of my spreadsheets and its a disaster for me so far.
Can anyone ease my mind?  Thanks.  Jack

Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • HT1689 Does the iPad cloud no longer support PayPal?

All of a sudden, my iPad is saying 'this device does not support PayPal, please change your account settings'
.  When I went to check the settings, the only option is for a credit card.  I don't like to use a cc for anything online and always try to use PayPal for everything.  Any ideas as to why this happened or is this a new thing from an update?

  • Transparent GIFs no longer supported in iWeb '08 ?

Was happily using transparent GIFs on previous versions of iWeb--they would appear completely blacked out in the media browser and in iPhoto, but when placed in an iWeb page, they maintained their transparency and looked fine.
Now, with iWeb'08, they are just black. Does iWeb '08 no longer support transparency?

Troubleshooting something else with AFP server I checked the com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist preference file and - indeed - there is no longer a specifically set option for SSHTunnel.
Just in case Apple had made it default behaviour, I did attempt an SSH connection from a Tiger machine to a Leopard Server and a warning came up that SSH is not supported on the Leopard server.
Apple seems to be pointing us all towards VPN's in general use - which is a good thing, as they are a snap to install and configure with Leopard Server. This is quite logical since SSH tunneling requires the user to have access to a shell, and the more security conscious administrator won't even allow a login-shell for normal users.
If you do want to use SSH tunneling, it is still possible but you do have to the usual Terminal dance i.e. ssh -L 8548:remotehost:548 username@remotehost and then connect to the remote file server via afp://localhost:8548/.
Generally, AFP over SSH is a kludge anyway, since it relies solely on TCP and is quite laggy and prone to failure. Also, it's quite a resource hog compared to other ways of securing network traffic.

  • What does this message mean: "power pc applications are no longer supported"?

What does this message mean: you can not start because power pc applications are no longer supported?

Here is a post that I assembled for another who needed to continue to run his PowerPC applications in Lion/Mt. Lion:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions, or find alternative software that will open your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

  • New MacPro 10.9.4 included Keynote. Worked fine. An update was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update and now get error message "You can't open the application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". Any ideas?

New MacPro 10.9.4 purchased three weeks ago included Keynote. App worked fine. New update for Keynote was released August 21. Just downloaded the 6.2.2 update. Tried to launch app and now get error message "You can’t open the application “Keynote.app” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Confused as to why it worked prior to update. Nothing else has changed. No issues with recent iMovie, Pages or Numbers updates. Any ideas?

    I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder.  Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
    An Aperture "Hang" report
    xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
    quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your  precious photos.

  • I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, now my photo studio software is no longer supported by powerpc. Does anyone know of a fix so my photostudio will work?

I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, but now some of my applications do not work, most specifically I would like to use my photo studio, but now it tells me that powerpc is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any fixes to this problem? I would really like to continue to use software that I already have! Thank you for your help!

PPC software will not work in Mountain Lion because there is no longer any Rosetta emulator. You will only be able to run your older software by creating another partition on your hard drive on which you can install Snow Leopard. It need not be a large partition since you can still keep your files and programs on the main partition. You could also install Snow Leopard on an external drive from which to boot the computer.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
After you create the new partition boot the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard onto the new partition.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

You won't be able to install your original Acrobat 7 at all, or use your original serial number. The server which used to allow this was switched off.
But assuming you have a compatible system, like Mac OS 5 or Windows XP, licensed users of Acrobat 7 can download a replacement and get a replacement serial number.

But why if you're running 10.6 do you need to do this? AW works fine in 10.6 with Rosetta.

Without knowing anything about your computer we can't advise specifically. You can download CS6 versions in CC by checking the "older versions/ other versions" stuff in teh bottom section of the CC app's "Apps" tab, but that may not resolve your issues.

Hi, I just tried to open Word and this message appeared - 'You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.' I just recently loaded OS X Lion does this mean my software for MS Office is now out of date?  Do I have to purchase a new package? Any help appreciated.

    Hello:
Office 2004 was written for the PowerPC chip only.  There is no emulation in OS X 10.7.
I encountered the same issue sometime ago when I updated to OS X 10.7.
There is one option that I might mention (other than buy Office 2011).  I switched to Apple's iWork.  Pages (the word processing package) is completely compatible with Word.  If you export Pages documents, you can export them in formats compatible with Microsoft programs.  iWork also contains programs that are compatible with Office presentation and spreadsheet packages.
The reason I mention this is that the cost is about 1/2 of the cost of Office.
