Does Leopard support 1.5TB drive without partitioning?

My main hard drive (250GB), which has all my System software resided, is running out of space. I want to add a 1.5 TB hard drive.
1) can Leopard handle a 1.5TB drive without partitioning it into 1 TB plus 500GB?
2) how to move everything from the current 250GB drive to the new drive so that I can use the new drive as a start-up disk? Could you point me to some site that has the detail instruction to accomplish the task?

I don't think there are any 8 exabytes drives out there yet... That's something like 8 BILLION gigabytes, I think!
I agree that Carbon Copy Cloner (or SuperDuper) would be the the best way to duplicate your drive to a new drive. You'll need an external drive case, or an adapter like this one

unless it's the Mac Pro and you can mount it internally.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Fusion Drive is created by software on OS X. On a computer with Fusion Drive, Windows is installed on the HDD, but when you install the Boot Camp drivers, you will be able to read Macintosh HD, so it looks like it supports Fusion Drive but only for read

  • MS7176 (P945 NEO) - does it support 1 TB drive

I purchased a 1 TB WD Caviar last week, after 5 days it does not work properly. Sometimes it disapears from the Explorer and creates funny noise (hissing) then the read/write process freezes the PC. Now it's stop working.
Does the 945P neo support 1TB drive or the drive is realy dead ?
    Many thanks !

Hi Henry, thanks for swift response.
I have 2 other SATA drives and swapped the cable with this one, but the BIOS still could not detect it.
Before its broken, I still got a chance to test using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and it found an error (see attached picture).
Btw, so the mobo (MS7176) supports the 1TB drive?
    Thanks.

  • Does Leopard support pure L2TP?

I was using a pure L2TP VPN service (without IPSec). But I can't find such connection option in the network preferences. And then I tried l2tpd, an open-source l2tp daemon, but it can't work correctly under Leopard.
I wonder whether Leopard support pure L2TP. If so, how can I set up it? Thanks.

  • Does Leopard Support Users Directory On Another Drive?

On my Tiger based Mac today, I have the OS and Applications on one drive, and all my data (User Directory) on another. I created this set up using Terminal and NetInfo Manager to copy the User Directory and create a symbolic link.
I'm wondering if I can still follow this same procedure with Leopard? Here's a link that describes the procedure.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2007041217125440

    Yep,
    i found a tricky way:
    1. Open terminal.
    2. Login as admin and get root rights and enter the admin password
    sudo su
    3. Use the "directory service command line utility"
    dscl
    4. Type ls for an overview and change to your user directory (myUserName is an example)
    cd /Local/Default/Users/myUserName
    5. Take an overview about the keys with cat
    cat
    6. And look to the key NFSHomeDirectory. This is the key of your home path
    7. Change the path (to another partition or drive e.g.) with
    change /Local/Default/Users/myUserName NFSHomeDirectory /Users/myUserName /Volumes/Data/home/myUserName
    8. Exit dscl with
    q
    9. Copy files and directories to the new location
    ditto -rsrcFork -V /Users/myUserName /Volumes/Data/home/myUserName
    10. Exit terminal
    Thats all

It shows up in DU as a drive and a partition. Nothing unusual at all.

  • Does Leopard support Font Reserve?

I wasn't sure where to post this question, so hopefully someone reading this can help me out. I'm having a problem with Font Reserve now that I've installed Leopard. When I try to open the browser I get a message that says:
"Font Reserve is off. THe browser cannot be opened until it is turned on by the Font Reserve control panel. Do you want to open the Font Reserve control panel now?"
I click on "Yes" and the control panel appears but I'm unable to click the "On" button. I'm assuming this is yet another outdated program that Leopard doesn't support (sorry if I sound bitter but I just found out Leopard doesn't support iPhoto 2.0, so I just had to purchase iLife 08, in addition to having to buy more memory for my computer just to install Leopard. Ugh!) Anyway, is anyone familiar with the Font Reserve issue?

i'm having the exact same problem. i'll let you know if i find anything out. last v. of font reserve i have is 3.13, and extensis doesn't seem to have any advice. i tried trashing prefs and reinstalling the software. somewhat frustrating as i'm a designer and need access to my typefaces! ugh is right. good luck.

Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive.  "Could not complete backup to media share.  The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."  What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

If I install VM Fusion or Parallels, does Windows run all the time? How does that affect computer performance? and how much do I need to worry about hard drive corruption?
Current versions of Fusion and Parallels are compatible with Yosemite. Both are applications which you only run when you want to run Windows within them. As such, there's no effect on computer performance when they're not in use. Like any other software, there is some additional load on your Mac when both Windows and the Mac OS are running together, but any noticeable effect depends on what each is being expected to do and what resources (e.g. available RAM and the number of CPU cores) you can devote to each.
I think there's less chance of HD corruption with a VM than there is with running Windows natively on the Mac in Boot Camp. Consider that, with a VM, you can create Snapshots of the state of your VM at a given time, and then, if something goes wrong (virus, malware, software installations), you can simply restore the Snapshot in a matter of seconds and eliminate the problems in the process. Moreover you can make a backup copy of the entire VM file, and replace a later version if you wish. Also consider that you can assign, say, 100GB of HD space to the VM, but the actual space devoted to the VM is only what's actually used; as more is needed, more is made available and Windows can't tell the difference. So, for example, my Win 7 Pro VM has an 80 GB virtual HD but only takes up 45 GB on my SSD, and that's with XP Mode in VPC installed inside it.
Microsoft no longer supports XP, though virus signature updates are still being issued. But MS has installed a pop-up message about EOL that won't go away (it's installed with KB2934207). Even if you remove that KB in Add and Remove Software, the pop-up continues. But if you have a Snapshot or a backup which is prior to it's original installation, you can skip installing KB2934207, and suppress it's reappearance on a Software Update list.

  • AS I  FOUND OUT LATE, LION DOES NOT SUPPORT ROSETTA, WHICH SUPPORTS QUICKEN AND CLASSIC AOL, AND MANY OTHER APPS. CAN I TAKE LION AWAY AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.

I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • How do I reformat hard drive without affecting recovery partition?

I would like to know how I can reformat my Toshiba hard drive without affecting the hidden recovery partition? I would like to get rid of the preinstalled Windows 7 OS and replace it with Windows XP, which is not as bloated. Also, does anyone know of a good 'free' disk scrubber program? I actually have the original 'disk scrubber' software, but the software disk just won't work any more. Finally, I tried to get the computer ready for the drive scrubbing, but I still can't change the disk order on my Toshiba laptop. I did get into the 'bios' screen by hitting the F8 key on startup, which did bring up the 'boot menu' screen. When I selected the cd/dvd drive and then hit the F10 key to save the change, nothing happened! I put in a data disk, but the laptop still booted into the Windows 7 OS. If I can't get the laptop to boot into the cd/dvd drive, I don't think that I can erase the hard drive and put Windows XP on since I wouldn't be able to boot up the laptop with the Windwos XP disk. Is that true? Anyway, without changing the boot order, I can't do anything. Please help! Thanks!

If you use the recovery that is on the hidden partition (hold down the zero key while starting up computer) then your OS reinstall will not affect that hidden partition, just overwrite the c: drive.

sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

  • Native error code -2147217887 0x80040e21 Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers: ODBC driver does not support the requested properties.

I configured MySQL in TestStand and making a query in TestStand like this:
Command :=> "SELECT *  FROM crc_table ; " or  "SELECT CRC_Value  FROM crc_table ; " returns the total number of records without any errors.
But when I add the "where" clause
    "SELECT crc_table.CRC_Value  FROM crc_table where crc_table.File_ID= Locals.File_ID and crc_table.Version_ID = Locals.Version_ID and crc_table.Link_ID = Locals.Link_ID; "
    I get the error as:
Error, The following SQL command failed: 'SELECT crc_table.CRC_Value FROM crc_table where crc_table.File_ID= Locals.File_ID and crc_table.Version_ID = Locals.Version_ID and crc_table.Link_ID = Locals.Link_ID; ...' Native error code -2147217887 0x80040e21 Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers: ODBC driver does not support the requested properties. [Error Code: -10, User-defined error code.]
I tried the same syntax in MySQL Query Browser and got the correct result:
    SELECT crc_table.CRC_Value  FROM crc_table where crc_table.File_ID= "FID1" and crc_table.Version_ID = "VID1" and crc_table.Link_ID = "L1";
    I would appreciate your help.
    Thank you,
    Vidula

    Vidula,
I am not completely sure if this is the cause of the error but it is something that will cause problems if it is not fixed.  In your SQL statement you must properly concatenate your strings with your variables.  In the statement you posted you were simply putting the variable names in the string, not actually pulling their values.  To do so properly your query should look something like this:
    "SELECT crc_table.CRC_Value  FROM crc_table where crc_table.File_ID='"+Locals.File_ID+"' and crc_table.Version_ID = '"+ Locals.Version_ID+"' and crc_table.Link_ID = '"+Locals.Link_ID+"' ;"
This way we are using the values of the variables in conjunction with the text strings.  In this case the usage of single quotes (') casts the variables as strings so you may need to change this character sequence, but from the second example you gave I think that your variables are of type string so this should work fine.
