Does Lion have a restore point

Does Lion have a restore point?

Could you describe what you are trying to do a little more fully?  When you say Force, do you mean force quit?  Just what were you doing in System Preferences when it hung up?
What vintage iMac, memory, etc and version of 10.7?

    please help me out

    I can't do that since I do nothing with Windows.
    It sounds like it was hacked to run XP and then makes it not run OS X now.
    Only thing I can suggest is to repartition the hard drive to a single HFS+, GUID partition and see if that allows you to install OS X.

  • Does LION have a problem with Quicklook?

    Quicklook in Lion does not display images and will not follow arrow command when in display.
    It will only display one image and not scroll via arrows to the below or next images.
    Solution are welcome,
    Thank you

    YES AND ITS DRIVING ME TO THE POINT WHERE I'M GOING TO BUY A PC!
    I have a lot of music on my computer. Nearly 55 gigs. After I reached a certain unknown amount my iMac has been freezing every time:
    I listen to music - it will stop half way through a song and then give the rainbow wheel.
    Add new songs to my library - will happen occassionaly, forcing me to manually restart.
    Turn on Genius
    NB: None of the songs are corrupt as they all work perfectly on my iPod!
    At first we thought it was the new iPod that I bought which was giving me trouble. We found that that iPod was corrupt and I got it replaced. I later discovered it was actually my computer that was giving me the trouble as the same thing still happened with the new iPod.
    After taking my computer to apple, they suggested a hardrive replacement, which worked until I started using iTunes excessively.
    I will probably take my computer to apple again because applecare does not know how to fix my problem, but I would like to avoid doing that as I am very busy and I do not have to to continuously take my computer to the store.
    My computer does unfreeze after about 5 minutes, but then continuously freezes after I press a mouse button or keyboard, or try to open an application. (almost seizure-like).
    Is it a problem with RAM or memory?
    Please help me!
    PS My friends have told me to put my music on an external hardrive but that it is a huge inconvencience as I like my computer to be up to date with my iPod.

  • Does lion have idvd?

    In snow leapord i was able to create a folder of pictures in iPhoto and send them to iDVD and make a slideshow, now with Lion i noticed i am not able to send to iDVD. Is there still a way to send my photos to iDVD? Is there some one out there who could give me some advice please. Thx

    Make a couple of phone calls.
    iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
    Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
    If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
    Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
    they got a free copy of iDVD.
    If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • Does Lion have iPhoto?

    I had an email certificate issue and our local Genius decided that i needed to upgrade my operating system, all worked out fine except I no longer have a host of programs. One of which is iphoto, so does my new Lion OSX have iPhoto and I just cannot see it or find it? My photo's migrated over after the change but no iphoto program to work with.

    Your iPhoto program should be on the OS installer disk that came with your MBP. Better yet have your local genius reinstall it for you.

  • Need to restore but do not have a restore point or recovery partition.

    Hi guys. I have an HP Notebook 2000-365DX with Windows 7 Home Premium.   Its so cluttered and I need to restore back to original settings.  I had installed Ubuntu (partitioned)  a while back and was very stupid because I deleted my HP Tools recovery partition.  Now, I have searched here on HP.com to order a recovery disc and apparantly I cannot find one for my specific model.  So what I have done is downloaded a Windows 7 Home Premium .iso file (thanks to a kind soul on these forums) and I am needing to download all the drivers for my laptop as well but HP is having some issues right now so I can't download them (which is fine I'm in no hurry).  So that's about as far as my knowledge goes.  I have my Win7 disc, and will hopefully soon have my drivers disc.  What I don't know how to do is erase my computer to start from scratch installing Win7 again then all my drivers.  I have read that DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) wipes your hard drive clean but that seems very extreme.  Seems like I would use that to erase my hardrive if I were selling my laptop or erasing evidence, but if that's my solution then I am cool with that.  So really, I'm wandering what I should do now.  And will I really have to re-install my drivers as well?  Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!!!!

    Hi, You can remove all the existing partitions on the HDD during installation as follows. Start the installation. When you get to the 'What type on installation' screen, choose the Custom ( advanced ) option and then click on Drive options (advanced). Here you can delete all the existing partitions one at a time by click on the partition to highlight it and then selecting delete. When done, you will have just one entry named 'Unallocated space' - just proceed with the installation. Regards, DP-K

  • How do I restore a previous session when the Firefox homepage does NOT have the "restore" button and it is grayed out in the menu? menu

    My Firefox homepage had a "Restore Previous Session" button but it has disappeared. SO when my Firefox crashes I lose all my tabs and tab groups, and this is very inconvenient. I have checked through all the "Options" seeing if there is some button there to enable this feature, but to no avail. I am frustrated as after a crash I spend hours revisiting all my links in my History menu to reset my tabs. Can you help?

    In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Browsing History
    *Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History

  • Does lion have an built-in application like rosseta from previous OS?

    I am thinking if i should upgrade to Lion but i have read that people are having problems opening microsoft word. I am a student and I use Microsoft office 2011 alot and will i be able to open office or should i wait for an update.
    Please reply Thanks

    Office 2011 for Mac works like a charm in Lion. I redownloaded latest copy of Office 2011 with SP1 (from MSDN) and installed on Lion. I also download 1 big security update (around 200MB) and Remote Dektop Connection update (I think it's v2.1.1). Don't be confused, you can go ahead with Lion Upgrade!

  • Does Lion have TRIM capabilities?

    I have a 2010 macbook pro. I did not choose the SSD option when i bought it, but later had one professionally installed. I was just curious whether or not lion has TRIM on it, which helps increase the performance/life of an SSD (solid state hard drive). I remember reading somewhere that people thought it would have TRIM just for macbooks which has SSD's installed in the factory, but not for aftermarket installations (like mine). Is this the case? If not, will some future Lion upgrade have optional TRIM capabilities for every macbook?

    Edit:
    Tested the groth patch and it still work in Lion as well...
    (and the disk is very much third-party )

  • HT1414 Why does it have two restore to factory settings

    Why

    Because your iPod encountered a problerm.
    If it recurrs after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that indicates a hardware problem.

  • I have an Advaned Format WD drive,will it work with Lion?Does Lion even support AF?

    I have a "new" mid 2009 MacBook, and I'm replacing everything on it so I can use it for school. I want to use Lion, and decided to get a new hard drive to compliment the upgrade.I ordered a WD Scorpio Black drive...but just realized it had Advanced Format in the description. I noticed alot of reviewers said it worked with their MacBook Pro's, but dont know if they succesfully got AF to work or not...sounds like there would be a serious performance hit if they couldnt get it to work.Does Lion have any way to format the drive in AF?Is it even necessary?

    While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t have Lion. There's a Lion Support Community where everybody has Lion.You should also post this question there.  https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion

  • Apple Config - can apps be included in the restore point?

    Our school uses Apple Config. for class sets of iPads set up by grade.  Currently they have the restore point set for each grade and includes only the grade specific Apple ID/password.  I'd like to include their common apps too (fully paid for correct number of copies), but I've been told that apps can't be part of the restore point.  Does Apple Config/restore point not work the same way as a computer image?  I'd like to propose that we inlcude all the common apps as part of the restore and add additional ones as required, but I'm being told it's not even possible.  Can anyone confirm how they do this?

    No.

  • Dynamically Named Restore Points?

    Does anyone know how to create dynamically named restore points? I have an RMAN script that is currently setup like this:
    sql 'drop restore point lv_restore';
    sql 'create restore point lv_restore';
    backup database plus archivelog;
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    exit;
    The first line is where I drop the restore point and the second line is where I create it again. This way the restore point is set just before the backup begins.
    Okay - it's setup like this because when I don't drop the restore point ahead of time I get the following error:
    sql statement: create restore point lv_restore
    RMAN-00571: =================================================
    RMAN-00569: ======== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===========
    RMAN-00571: =================================================
    RMAN-03009: failure of sql command on default channel at 04/29/2008 15:22:44
    RMAN-11003: failure during parse/execution of SQL statement: create restore point lv_restore
    ORA-38778: Restore point 'LV_RESTORE' already exists.
    This makes sense to me, actually. What I would love to do is to dynamically append the current date to the end of the restore point name. The idea is to have the restore points named something like this:
    lv_restore_2008-04-25
    lv_restore_2008-04-26
    lv_restore_2008-04-27
    lv_restore_2008-04-28
    lv_restore_2008-04-29
    etc...
    Is there any way I can dynamically name restore points?

    Can anyone explain to me how to use the syntax provided by damorgan to actually append a value to the restore point name in the script I provided?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • System restore points disappeared

    Taking a look at my system restore points I found there were none. There is no reason I know of for this - system restore was set to ON but restore points were not being created - I turned it off then on again and now it is creating restore points again.
    One thing occurred to me was I had been looking at some dodgy "make money on the web easily" sites just out of interest. Does anyone know of any malicious ware that destroys restore points. It would be a sneaky way of stopping the deletion of Spy ware.
    Also I noticed some automatic updated from Microsoft had just finished installing - would this have deleted restore points ? From what I read auto updates create restore points not delete them.
    Any ideas anyone ?

    Hi
    I have found this info:
    If no free disk space on monitored system drive or on any of the available non-system drives exists, System Restore will purge restore points consistently across all monitored partitions to free disk space. If the free disk space falls below 50 MB on any monitored partition, System Restore will stop monitoring and suspend.
    Note: Some users have reported that using the Real Player One utility has deleted restore points. Please review your System Event Viewer log for System Restore events for a volume error event.
    But these are Microsoft issues and if you want to know more about such issues with system restore tool you should check this Microsoft info site:
