Does Lion save more battery than ML?

Recently my macbook pro retina 15" has been running short on battery, whether I am playing Minecraft or surfing the web. Will downgrading to Lion save more battery?

Yes 10.7.5 will probably get you slightly better battery life, but to downgrade you have to erase your whole drive and perform a complete reinstall.  Time machine backups will not work so you will have to manually move your files back into place and reinstall anything like Microsoft Office or the Adobe CS software. Probably more trouble than its worth for most people.  If you want to read about it a little more Arstechnica does a good comparison article: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/08/mountain-lion-update-can-improve-battery-li fe-for-some-mac-notebooks/

  • Does Moc OSX Lion use more battery than Snow Leopard?

Ever since I have updated my MBP Early 2011 (2.2 Ghz Radeon 6750) to Lion, my battery life has gone down tremendously. I used to be able to get a solid 7 hours in (light workload ei. web browsing) and now I'm only able to get 3.5 hours MAX. I'm currently running 10.7.2 and the problem is still there. I have gone through around 200 cycles so it's not like 1000's of cycles or anything. Is this just me or are other people exeriencing the same problems? I plan on going back to snow leopard soon if there is no fix to this.

I have had my MBP since July 2011, and am at 22 cycles.
You must run soley on battery charge, almost never plugged in.
Are you running your battery very much down (10%-20%) before re-charge , or recharging at about 40%?
Running Lithium-Ion batteries almost dead create a "memory" that can make your MBP unchargeable.

  • OS X Lion spends more battery than Snow Leopard?

¿i'm the only one that has this problem?
Please respond this post if you have this problem

    Hello from Spain.
Updated a couple of hours ago and am having the same problem. But I can't understand (and I am a computer scientist) how an update can shorten your "battery-life" (not the real life but the timing) from 5-6 hours (mi MBP is new, 2 weeks) to 2 hours and a half.
On the other side, I think is a software problem, because although my percentage has decreased (of the battery) I am having 2 hours of battery in the label for a long time (so maybe is a little bug?).
Let's keep in contact (this has to be submitted to Apple in any way). Tomorrow I'll try to call to the Spanish Suport Telephone.
RE-EDIT: I continue monitoring my battery and now it says 3 hours (69%). The percentage decreasing rate seems to be normal so I think there is only a little software bugs, but what about you guys? Have you monitored your bat. more?.

  • Why does OS7 use more battery on iphone?

Upgraded to OS7 from 6.1.4 which was much better on battery life. Why does OS 7 use so much battery and how can I reinstall OS6?
Its using approx 10% of battery life every hour, when not using the phone and all apps switched off, push notifications off etc - if I was actually using the phone and making calls battery will be dead in no time!

why?i rip all my cd's in wma,y does wma files use more battery life?
Due to higher compression rate of WMA. The player will need higher processing power to process it thus the higher battery consumption but it should not affect it very much around 0-5% more only.

  • Could you tell me why does Mac is more expensive than Windows?

I love Apple, don't get me wrong. Just, i see Mac is more expensive than Windows.

Windows is an operating system for which you pay money. Mac's operating system, Mavericks, is free.
If you are speaking of hardware, then you need to make a specific hardware comparison of apples with apples, not apples and oranges.

  • Where does Lion save my Address Book contacts?

I've returned to Snow Leopard and am restoring my data manually from a Time Machine backup, but I can't find my contacts. Where has Lion hidden them? and has anyone restored them from Lion to SL?

I think you can back up your Address Book (File->Export->Address Book Archive) in Lion. Then use the file to Import back into Snow Leopard.

  • When I select and overtype text, why does it overtype more text than I actually selected?

For example, let's say the existing text reads: "one two three four five six".
Let's say I select: "two three".
    And then I start typing.
I'll often find that what I'm typing is actually replacing: "two three four five".
Why is this? And how can I stop it?

It doesn't happen all the time, but I've noticed it often happens when editing a text field in an online form in Google Chrome. (I'm not running any wierd extensions; just the usual ones like add to Instapaper, etc etc.) I'm pretty sure I've seen this happen to me in Word too, but the latest instances were definetly in Chrome.
It wasn't an issue on my last Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.x. Just my new Air running Mac OS X 10.8.x.

  • On average how long does your mac book battery last?

Mine runs about 1.75 hours on average while doing my best to conserve the battery. I would like to get an idea from other mac book owners how long their battery lasts, so I know if something is wrong with mine.
I know there are a number of factors that come in to play in terms of how long your battery will last. For instance, i know that if you have a lot of applications open, and if you have blue tooth device it will cause your computer to have to work harder and in essence will cause your battery to run out faster. It just seems like mine runs out real quick (1.75 hours). I have the check mark by "better energy savings" and close my applications as well.
I will also say that I did not calibrate my battery when i first got it being that this is my first laptop and i didnt know. I calibrated it about a month after i got it. However, prior to the calibration i had it hooked up directly from a power source all but one usage. Being that it took so long for me to calibrate my battery, is it permanently damaged?

A charge capacity of 4860, while being below average, is not a complete didaster and is not the cause of the 1.75 hour usage. Mosre than likely your failure to calibrate is the reason for it being below average. I does say to calibrate ASAP in the user manual that comes with your MacBook.
Now, to help with your battery time the things that affect the batery time the most are…
    1) Processor performance. Make sure your Energy Saver setting are set for maximum battery savings.
    2) High processor usage. The more you use you procossor the lower your battery times. So, you will get better battery performance when checking/writing e-mail and web surfing that you would encoding video. I often use a tool like MenuMeters…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17713
… to keep an eye on my processor usage.
    3) Screen brightness. This is a huge battery user and you should set this as low as is comfortable. High battery times require the screen to be set to minimum values. One spot (minimum) is the norm.
    4) Wireless networking. As this is always on it does chew up more battery that you would think. Turn it off when you don't need it. I actualy created a "no networking" profile in my Network System Preference for when I want to maximise battery performance and have no need of internet/networking.
    5) Bluetooth. This also consumes quite a bit of power for something that is not used much. Turn it off as much as you can when on battery.

  • Please, the battery of my mac air does not last more than two hours, it's been over 30 days I sent for technical assistance and nothing! I am very disappointed with the mac air, I had a very different expectation of apples products!!

Maybe the problem is not your MB Air......
    Try these:
Make sure bluetooth is turned off if you're not using it.
Set your screen brightness to 4 bars.
See what's loading in your login items.  Delete the ones you don't need.
Open Activity Monitor - under All Processes see what's using most of your CPU's resources.
Highlight the ones with the highest %CPU and hit quit process.
Remember that when Apple says that your battery should last 7 hours, they tested it just browsing the web and not have anything open in the background and screen is set at 50% brightness.

  • Why does Lion need to be rebooted more than Snow Leopard?

After upgrading to Lion I have noticed that I need to reboot Lion  more often than Snow Leopard. Is this just me or is this something others have seen?

I think this is just you. Nevertheless I would install the 10.7.1 update if you have not yet done so. This will improve the stability of Lion somewhat. But before you do that I would reinstall Lion. You may find this will improve things quite a bit especially if you upgraded from Snow Leopard. This will not erase the drive so you won't lose any of your files.
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Does 4G drain the battery more than 3G with the iPhone 5?

Hi im due an upgrade and im thinking about getting 4G, but does it drain the battery more than it does with 3G with the iPhone 5?

the phone can handle it or else it wouldn't be supported. it can also handle LTE which is even faster than 4G in most cases

  • Under the settings app there's the general column and under the accessibility section the is a setting called black over white does that drain your battery any more than the normal setting

Wow. I have not seen that question nor a discussion. I agree with James. I don't think it will, and if the power drain is different, maybe it'll be less and not more.
With a 10 hour battery, you have plenty of time to test it and see. If the battery depletes fast, just go back to the other way.
If you do try it, let us know what you discover.
    Thanks ! !
