Does Lion support entourage 2008?

Just bought a new iMac with Lion installed. Can I run Entourage 2008 on it?
Thanks.

Hi Mr Kaufmann
There seems to be some confusion on this one, this blog:
http://www.officeformachelp.com/2011/07/microsoft-announces-lion-compatibility-f or-office-for-mac/
has as many posters whose installation succeeded as those who failed, MS state that some 2008 addons (Query for one) don't work because they are PPC apps, no mention of installer issues, I no longer have a copy of 2008 so can't try, has anyone actually tried to install 2008 or are we all just repeating the 'conventional wisdom' du jour?

I am looking for a way to shift from Entourage (MS Office email) to the Apple system for email?  The new MS Office does not support Entourage.

Philip if you can't find your answer in this forum try the Snow Leopard forum, Mail is considered part of OS X so you may have luck there.
Also you also may want ot be more specific when posting. I'm assuming because you only mention Mail all you are interested in is switching to Mail or did you have more in mind?

  • Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC files?

Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC  files? I have heard that if i down load  Lion then my Word files for Mac will not function or work. Is this true?? I don't want to download Lion if this happens.

The file type does not matter, the program you use to open the file does.
You need a newer version of word (or a third party program).
You can use openoffice as well.

  • Does lion support quicken

    does lion support quicken

As Allan has said, no, Intuit has chosen not to keep Quicken well updated, and have only offered a dumbed-down version for Lion users.  They have announced that they plan to update Quicken 2007 for Lion sometime "in the spring," but I wouldn't hold my breath, considering their track record.  They do not value their Mac-using customers, and you don't want to do business with a company that does not value you.  Take this opportunity to migrate to some other banking software.

Does Lion support MSN Messenger?  If not, any solutions?

I'm running MS Office 2011 on Lion and it runs just fine.  No "Full Screen", but it runs just fine.  There may have been an update to install (I know there was an iWork one anyway), but even before I installed any updates Office '11 worked just fine.

  • Does Mountain Lion support Word 2008?

Does Mountain Lion support MicroSoft Word 2008?

I had completely uninstalled Office '08 on my old computer running Snow Leopard and had already made the switch to Office '11 when I got my new MBP with Lion. Since I used Setup Assistant, everything migrated well and I've had no trouble with ML and '11.
However, if you visit the MS Office for Mac user forums you will note that many users of '08 - and Word '08 in particular - are/were having problems with Lion and, now, with ML. I would suggest that your wife just customize '11 to her liking - shortcuts can always be modified (well, most of the time).
There are instructions on how to completely uninstall '08 here.

  • Does Lion support WOL?

    Hi there,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion for my MacBook Pro (Year 2008 model). Somehow the WOL (Wake-On-LAN) feature doesn't work now. So I'm wondering if Lion still supports that feature.
    Any hint?
    Thanks.

Within Energy Saver preferences, there is this:
    Wake for network access
Select this option if you want other users to be able to access your computer’s shared resources, such as shared printers or iTunes playlists, even when your computer is in sleep mode.
    Under the "power adapter" tab.

  • ICloud 3.0 does not support Windows 2008 r2

When I install iCloud control Panel on Windows 2008 r2, it shows me only support Windows 7& 8, how to solve this issue?

    Hello mcclxxi,
It sounds like you would like to change the format of the date in side your cells in Numbers. You can do this with the Format Inspector as Numbers has its own formats to use. This part of the Numbers 3.0 help site will assist you with this:
    Date and time
Select a cell or a range of cells.
In the Cell pane of the Format inspector, choose “Date & Time” from the Data Format pop-up menu.
Choose a format from the Date pop-up menu.If you choose None, no date is displayed in the cell, even if a date is entered and used in date and time calculations.
Choose a format from the Time pop-up menu.If you choose None, no time is displayed in the cell, even if a time is entered and used in date and time calculations.
If you don’t enter both a date and a time, Numbers adds a default value for you. For example, if you type, “1:15 PM,” Numbers adds today’s date by default.
The Smart Cell View at the bottom of the window shows you the actual value of both the date and the time for a selected cell, even if you choose to show only one in the table.

Mariner says that they haven't found any significant problems with MacJournal on Lion. If reinstalling the most recent version of MacJournal doesn't fix the problem, you might want to ask for help from Mariner support or on their forums:

  • Does Lion support the PICT format?

I currently use a first-generation Mac mini with Snow Leopard and would like to upgrade to a second-generation Mac mini with Lion. I have many PICT images on my hard drive that I created with Color It! and am using as textures in Poser 7. Will I still be able to use PICt images in Lion, or will I have to convert them to PNG or JPEG?

They are supported as far as the OS is concerned. Whether they will be supported by different image software is a separate non-Apple matter. However, a great piece of software for this is Graphic Converter.

Ok…..if I am reading the info correctly iMovie does not work properly on Lion.  If this is so……why would I want Lion??  I use iMovie all the time!!

Are you sure that iMovie 6 does not? I have seen reports that it does. It would be a shame if it didn't as it is the only version of iMovie worth having!

  • Does Lion support having the applications folder and the User folders on a separate disk (other than the startup disk)?

Is it possible to Install Lion while having the Application Folder and/or the User Folder on separate drives (other than the startup disk)  Leopard didn't really support this as it would have errors with e-mail and other services that where not stored directly on the startup disk.

It's possible, but don't put the Applications folder elsewhere, and keep at least a miminal Admin account on your startup drive (so you can still log on to do troubleshooting, etc., if there's a problem with the other drive).
Many apps are expected to be in the Applications folder on the OSX drive; they may not work on a different drive and/or may not be found or updated when updates are available.  Apple and Adobe apps, especially, are subject to this.  Don't put them in folders, either, as similar things may happen.
Besides, apps don't take up much space anyway, it's the data that may.
It's often better to keep the home folders on the OSX drive, but put large data folders on a separate drive, such as iPhoto, iTunes, or large video collections.
