Does logic have automatic timed back up???

hey,
lately logic 7.1 has been crashing at least 4 times aday. the "trying save you're song" message is all but gone and the songs backup file says that the folder has been modified very close to the time of the crash but I can't find any session that has been modified at the same time. automatic back up is active but only seems to backup the verisons of the the songs that i manually saved myself. can logic do auotmastic backups...let say every 5 minutes like whqat you have in pt? if so please tell me how or how the make logic get the "trying to save your song" message back.
thanks in advance,
eric j

Ok, That's a pretty big list. You can search these on the forums if you want to optimize things or see if any give certain problems, removing all and reintroducing 1 at a time. 3rd party plugs have caused at least as many crashes and data loss for me than Logic 7 has... I try to use them sparingly and don't keep them around long anymore. If you want to remove one at a time...I'd start with the RAM hungry ones. I think that alot of the frustration should not be on Logic but on the 3rd party plugs... AUVal doesn't cover everything in it's test. Just some of the really basic stuff that is necessary, and things which show signs of age. It is not 100% comprehensive.

  • This is an odd one, does Logic have its own clock?

    Hey all,
This is one for the books over here. Does Logic have its own clock? Not as in clocking, 44.1 48 etc. Not in that respect, but rather does Logic have its own "date and time" clock separate from OS X?
    Here's what's happening...
We have two rooms here. Identical. Writing done in "A" gets sent over to "B", cleaned up, sent back over to "A" etc etc. So in the "A" room, a cue comes from "B" with a last opened time of last night at 10:00 pm. A last modified time of 10:15 pm last night. That's the data if you get info on it from a finder window. Now with Logic open if you "open" a cue from Logic, navigate to where this cue is at, it says that the cue was last opened TONIGHT at 9:40pm (which is in the FUTURE) and last modified TONIGHT at 9:55pm (also in the FUTURE). We've caught it now, and things seem to be okay if you open a cue from the finder window and not from Logic->File->Open. A cue was opened from Logic yesterday, two hours of work done, saved often, and when it was closed and then opened again after lunch, none of the work was present. And the date and time modified was again in the future. So SO weird. Cleared prefs, repaired permissions. Still happening. Anyone else experiencing this? Any tips? Advice? Does Logic have its own clock? We're baffled.
Any help is greatly appreciated as always!
    Best wishes,
    the Earle-Tones Music crew

Brent, thanks for seconding in here. Sometimes this kind of you'd-never-expect-it-to-happen-weirdness can be easily written off as some kind of itinerant digital voodoo without this kind of corroboration.
So while we're on the subject of the finder lying... Folders are no picnic either.
If you create a folder and never open it but throw a bunch of stuff into it within the same minute that it's created, its creation date and modification date will be the same. But the simple act of opening that folder for the first time can cause its mod date to change. Or, if you go into that folder and re-organize some items, or rename some items, the folder's modification date will also change.
This means that if you have a bunch of folders contained within another folder (the "containing folder"), and you re-organize/re-name items within those folders, you can't count on the modification date of any one of the contained folders to indicate the order in which they were originally created. Because of this behavior you'll want to view by date created. But I still can't get my head around the idea that manipulation of data within a folder causes the attributes of the containing folder to change.
This may have some bearing on your current situation... or then again, maybe not LOL!   : - )

  • Does Logic have db scales markers on the output levels or individual chanels?

I am looking to buy Logic Pro or Pro logic.  Does Logic have VU markers on the output levels, or individual chanels. I use this as a guide to mixing as I know that bass should be at -6db, lead vox at -6db at the output meter on a traditional desk. I can see that Logic does has levels for each chanel but no scale next to it. Is this an option that can be turned on and off?
I can see that it registers the peak level, but I need to see the average level. Looking at pictures and clips on you tube aren't enough to confirm my answer. I know that Pro Tools has this which can be switch on or off. Does Logic?
Hope my question makes sense. thanks in advance.

What's happened to those? They are/were brilliant and worked perfectly in 7 & 8. If you set them up in 9 it remembers it when you are in the sample editor, but if you then copy that audio file (such as a cresc. cymbal) with said anchor point to another part of the song, the anchor point is forgotten, and if just gives you the start of the audio file as the reference point. Am I the only one with this problem?
Not seeing this - this works just as before here . .

Yes. EXS 24 is the sampler instrument.
I loads AIFF, WAV, SD2, Soundfont and other trypes of files.
RTFM. Theres a whole manual just on the Logic plugins. Crack it open to the EXS24 chapter.

    Say what?
I have to open a book? LOL! I don't think I've done that in quite a while, even when I was working on Gigastudio for the Mac (which I have a working copy of, to bad Tascam took so long, suppose that's why they stopped development)...
LOL, anyway, I will but can't someone tell me how to load a aiff, wav or am I missing out as I do want to not only load but manipulate. Is it a good sampler in that like Sculpture, or say N.I. sampler that I can mangle the sample to make it sound very different?
    Thanks
I can, for 250 an hour.
Or, you can RTFM. That is what the manual is there for.
Not only will you learn (to read) you might learn how to do something by yourself. Amazing. You'll be the toast of your community, I'll bet you even get laid... ok, maybe not that... ok ok you'll be able to get out of your parent's house. yes, that is more realistic for you.

  • Does Time Machine automatically resume backing up when the external HD is connected?

My daughter has a MacBook Pro at college.  I recently bought her an external hard drive to use with Time Machine.  We connected the drive, the system said, "do you want to use this drive for Time Machine?", we said, "yes, please", and it started doing its backup thing.
Then we disconnected the drive, waited a few minutes, then re-connected it.  I was expecting / hoping that Time Machine would automatically see the drive and resume its backup.  But I didn't see any visual indication of this and am not convinced that's what happens.
My daughter is a college student and will probably not remember to start Time Machine every time she reconnects the hard drive.  Is there a way to have Time Machine *automatically* resume its backup any time it sees the drive attached?  Also, how do you see the status of the backup?
    Thanks!

    webwiz wrote:

Oops.    Never disconnect an external HD without ejecting it first.  That can damage the file system on it, and Time Machine won't be able to back up to it without it being repaired (see below).
Did a backup complete?  See what the System Preferences > Time Machine window shows:
You can also get to that by selecting the TM icon in the menubar, or right-clicking the TM icon in the Dock, and selecting Open Time Machine Preferences.

TM will do backups hourly (just of what's been changed since the last one) while the disk is connected.  If it's not available for over an hour, it will just wait until it is (and send a message after 10 days without a backup).
If the drive was only disconnected for a few minutes, though, it won't start a new one until the hour is up.
If the Preferences window doesn't show a "Latest backup," the backup may have been damaged. If it's been over an hour, and no new backup has started, try to repair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting
You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • How can I create a template that does not have automatic formatting but my own?

I have just switch to a Mac from a PC and am having a terrible time with pages.  All I want to do is create my own template that has NO AUTOMATIC FORMATTING so I can do my own.
There is nothing in the HELP sections on how to delete the automatic formatting.  I do not want to use any of their Outline Templates just make up my own.
I would be so so grateful if someone could help me with this.  I took a one-on-one and his idea of how to get rid of formatting in my own template DID NOT WORK!
    Thanks, Deborah

    Deborah
Hard to see your problem, and if there is something THAT DOES NOT WORK! it would obviously be useful to know WHAT that is and WHY you believe it does not work, so we can ACTUALLY RECOMMEND A SOLUTION.
Just select any text and change it to whatever you want using the toolbar and/or the Text inspector.
The Outlines are just a view of your text, in a form that lets you easily organise and move it around.
Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer
Reveals whatever style has been applied to a heading or text and you can update or create new styles by clicking on the small triangle next to it > Redefine style from selection
When you are finished just save it as a Template.

  • Looking for a sound... Does Logic have it?

Hey everyone. I just purchased Logic two days ago. Very happy so far and am getting acclimated to it. However, there is simple but particular sound I'm not finding and I'm wondering if it is available in Logic.
On the Yamaha XS and Yamaha S90ES, there is a patch called BalladKeys. I LOVE the sound of that patch. For those of you who may be familiar with what I'm talking about, is there an equivalent available in Logic?
Also, am I just missing the saxophones in Logic? I can only find one.
    Thanks,
    Tom

great patch that one. It's been on all the Motif's to date.
It's a David Foster-like layer of piano and Rhodes, with a mellow pad way in the background. Nice...
So... I have this patch on both a classic Motif and en ES, but I rebuild it differently in Logic. How? Ivory for the piano part, and then pick one of the excellent Rhodes on the ES. You could do this by layering an EVP88 although the EVP88 will give the "essence" of a Rhodes, the multi-samples of these instruments kick serious rear across the whole Motif line. Why this way? These kinds of patches benefit from being able to separately EQ'ing the different layers, otherwise all that "beauty" can get too "woofy" in a mix.
Being a HUGE David Foster fan, it also helps if the piano and Rhodes parts are not exactly the same... Playing them in separately just sounds more like his work. The pad(s) get added later, layer by layer...
I'm not sure from your post if you have an XS or the S90ES, but if you do, but especially if you've got an XS, look into using your XS over firewire with Logic. The XS will act a audio interface letting you do all the XS audio digitally back into Logic. If it's this patch you want, and if you already own it, just bring it in as pristine as possible into Logic.
if you have a Motif, be sure to also visit www.motifator.com. The forums over there are Motif-specific (there's also a group of Logic-heads over there), they'll be able to help with your Motif-specific questions.

  • Why does Logic have valitadion problems with soem AU's?

    Hello,
I have a number of AU's I use in Garageband that work fine but Logic 9 won't load them saying it cannot validate them. Also on a seperate note after I updated to Snow Leopard yesterday a few more AU's would not validate?
Are there validation solutions to this problem?
    Thanks

I've just purchased the upgrade from SP1 to SP2. Downloaded the new version. Updated my iLok account and synchronized iLok. I'm using MacBook with 10.5.7 and Logic Pro (9), 2.4 GHz Intel Duo, 2GB Ram. When I go to Logic preferences to update AU validations it shows SP2 validated, but when I apply the plugin to a channel in Logic, it says my iLok is not authorized and it automatically prompts me to "re-authorize" SP2 and takes me through the iLok authorization process again.
On this same laptop, I also have Cubase 4, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools M-Powered installed. SP2 will open just fine as a VST in all of the above applications except Logic 9. Ableton also has the option of using either AU or VST. If the choose the AU version in Ableton, it also prompts me to authorize my iLok. It seems to me it is an AU issue since the VSTs are working fine. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, SP2 is Speakerphone2 from Audio Ease.

  • Does Logic have a log?

Maybe as an invisible file or something. I was just thinking that checking this may be a way to better track some issues. I'm thinking specifically SIDS. I've personally never experienced it, but would like to know other users issues are being addressed. Coming from a support perspective, I know that the first step in fixing a problem is being able to recreate it, and while the threads so far have been descriptive I haven't seen anything that would help recreate the problem. But if there's a log for Logic, perhaps the issue can be traced through that. Just trying to be helpful.

Never mind, I found how to create a META STOP event. Strange though that I need to hit play twice usually to get it going again.

  • Does Apple have a buy back or an exchange programme for Ipods?

I have an Ipod classic 80gb and a touch 8gb. I want to get rid of the two and get an Ipod touch 64gb without having to throw the old ones in a bin. Is that possible.

Apple will give you 10% off the price of a new iPod if you trade in an old one. (Note, it's not 10% for each iPod. Turning in both wouldn't get you 20% off.) You'll probably get more for them if you sell them yourself. Why would you bin them if they work?

  • Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • HT5423 Does Apple have anything official documentation listing compliance with UN38.3, UL 2054, and UL 60950-1?

While it's nice to claim compliance in a Press Release, does Apple have anything official backing this up, like a test certificate, or at lease a Statement of Conformity listing UN38.3, UL 2054, and UL 60950-1? These aren't listed in Apple's "Important Product Information Guide."

Obviously aviation is a special use of the iPad.  You come to a forum of regular users with an attitude about Apple and it takes numerous posts before you so much as give us a hint as to your (alleged) real needs.  Perhaps if you're really interested in the information, rather than simply trying to make some sort of a point, you would ask United Airlines or American Airlines why they chose the iPad.  Naturally, you could also ask the FAA why they gave their approval.  In fact, you could always ask Apple, which apparently you never did.
On the other hand, you could simply stay here foolishly trying to make a point about Apple.

Icloud is not backing up daily automatically on my phone or ipad I have to select back up now each day manually why is it not doing when locked on wifi

Make sure your devices are also connected to external power or the wifi will disconnect after a few seconds.  If they are and they still won't back up, it may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

Will I need adaptors and an interface?
Also, I am guessing as Logic only runs on MAC surely then they would not the best spec to recommend to run it?
I see all the upgrades as additional memory or a faster process?
Is a retina screen necessary, and why flash based storage against a 1TB hard drive, and a i5 instead of an i7
The main reason for this purchase is to play live and use backing tracks and record found sounds and make creative songs.
I hope you can provide some valuable feedback, as I am a longtime MAC user and see upgrades and changes happen regularly but the most important thing is the songs not the equipment.
I have £500 already and willing to add another 500 to 700 pounds, then software extra.

You will want to open iPhoto, go to the iPhoto menu and select Preferences. Under the General tab, next to Connecting camera opens: select iPhoto. Close the preferences and quit iPhoto. Reconnect your iPhone 4. iPhoto should open automatically and offer to import your pictures. Import them and then do what you want with them.
