Does Logic Pro X actually work with the Roland VS-20?

Hi all.  According to the support docs, the Roland VS-20 should work with Logic Pro X.  I've installed the latest drivers, the latest Logic plug-in for the VS-20, and the latest VS-20 Editor.  On occasion (and I have no idea what the magic formula is), I've gotten the controls and audio to work via the VS-20.  However, more often than not, the VS-20 controls (transport controls and faders) do nothing, and playing audio results in a horrible screeching through the VS-20.
A couple of other points of info:
The VS-20 always shows up correctly in the Control Surface and audio settings of Logic Pro X.
The VS-20 works fine in Reaper 4 as well as when only using the VS-20 Editor.
I'm using Logic Pro X (10.0.3) on a 2012 MBPr w/ 2.6GHz i7 and 16GB RAM
Is anyone out there using this setup successfully?
Thanks!

Roland was very helpful, even though their solution didn't actually work for me.  I sent them the same info as above, and here was the reply:
We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble. The VS-20 is definitely compatible with Logic Pro X. Be sure that you have setup the VS-20 in Logic Pro X according to the following instructions:
Audio I/O Setup:
1.     Select Logic Pro X in the menu bar and navigate to Preferences.
2.     Click on “Audio...”
3.     Under the Devices tab, set your Output Device and Input Device to “VS-20 44.1kHz”--if it is not already set.
Note: The sample rate of your Logic Pro X project must be 44.1kHz--as the VS-20 only operates in this sample rate.
4.     Click “Apply Changes”.
5.     Close the Preferences menu.
Control Surface Setup:
1.     Select Logic Pro in the menu bar and navigate to Preferences.
2.     Navigate to Control Surfaces and then click on “Setup...” A Setup window will appear.
3.     Click on “New” and then select “Install…” An Install window will appear.
4.     Select “Mackie Designs (Manufacturer) / Mackie Control (Model) / Logic Control (Module) and then click “Add”.
Note: If prompted with the message “No new Devices found”, click on “Add Manually”.
5.     In the Setup window, expand the Mackie Control section and assign both the Out Port and Input Port to “CONTROL”.
Note: If the Setup window does not appear, right-click on the Mackie mixer image and then select “Hide/Show Inspector”.
6.     Close the Control Surface Install and Setup windows.
The VS-20 is now setup for Logic Pro X.
We hope this information is helpful! Please let us know if this does not resolve your issue and include as much information as possible regarding troubleshooting you have done and results you have received. We are happy to help you.
Sincerely,
Roland Product Support
These steps actually resulted in a situation where some of the buttons on the VS-20 triggered sounds instead of their intended functions.  I deleted everything and started over, this time picking the actual VS-20 option in the setup, and everything worked.
I should mention that I also (foolishly?) updated to Mavericks just before getting this to work.

  • Does Logic Pro 9.0 work with Mac OS X Lion?

I don't want to update to Mac OS X Lion from Snow Leopard until I know 100% that Logic Pro 9.0.0 is compatible with it.
On a side note, would Final Cut Pro 7.0 work with Lion as well (I will not be upgrading to Final Cut Pro X)?
    Thank you!

Okay peoples, I have great news!
I was told that maybe the update for Logic Pro 9.0.0 to 9.1.4 wasn't working for me because I must have renamed my software folder... and I remembered doing so back in 2010.
    You see, my issue was:
I bought Logic Studio 8 (The big box with piano keys on the side) and then as soon as I did, Logic Pro 9 (the update version) came out. I was inclined to get the latest software, so I upgraded immediately. I remember wondering why my logic pro 8 stayed behind after the update so I foolishly renamed the folders "Logic Pro 8" and "Logic Pro 9" haha. Not knowing this would cause me grief later when I tried to update.
So, my Logic Pro 9 is working again fine. My only concern now is for the hardware (the Apogee Duet) I am using, as I have to wait for a Lion update in August, thankfully it is only a month away as apposed to 6
    Cheers,
    and I hope this helps.

Will my MacBook Pro from 2008 work with the Thunderbolt Display? Or will I need an adapter? I like to have two monitors and currently using an Cinema Display from 2005. Thanks

If your computer does not have Thunderbolt you cannot use a Thunderbolt display.  There are no adapters that will help.

  • Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

My experience with upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion is that the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless will print just fine, although it seems to take a little longer to find the printer on the network. My scan function however locks up and will not work. This really is an annoyance, though, since I have VueScan, which works fine with Lion.
Hopefully, Apple and HP will not orphan the OS native scanning feature for HP multifunction printers.

  • Does the new Macbook Pro 13 2011 work with the Intel SSD?

I've been trying to upgrade my macbook pro to an ssd (using stock original 5400 rpm 320 gb HDD) but so far I've been reading for like 2-3 hrs and came to a conclusion. Intel is the most reliable and most highly recommended. However, Intel SSD doesn't work with the new Macbook Pro 13" & 17" because of some cabling SATA III issues. Does the issue still remain or has it been fixed? If it hasn't been fixed, what is the current most highly recommended and reliable and best in terms of speed, reliability, and just...best SSD available that works best with the 2011 MBP? Can anyone help me out? Ive been reading that OCZ and others are faster than Intel but less reliable (higher failure rates) and MBP can't take advantage of faster 6/Gbps RAID III or something. help me!!! Should I just wait?

If you search the web, you will predominately read about problems, not good experiences.
I don't believe Intel is any less subject to issues, than the Sandforce SSD drives.
Buy from a reliable source with a good return policy and warranty.

  • DVD Studio Pro no longer works with the new iMac. Solutions?

Disc installations in general don't exist anymore and DVD Studio Pro is no longer supported in the new iMac that we have at our office. I used to have Roxio's Toast Titanium as a backup burner, but even that is not supported past mac OS 10.7. Final Cut X has the option to export straight to DVD but the menu options it gives you is so basic it doesn't even look professional. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they are using now to burn a professional looking DVD. Many thanks

It seems as though you and I are on the same page struggling. Were you able to find any alternatives to DVDSP or any way to continue using it?
    On-Site Video
I'm considering myself lucky... Though I was unable to install either DVDSP and FCP v.6 on my new iMac, they are both still working on my older iMac even though it too is running ML. I believe this is because I upgraded to ML from Leopard with both already installed.
My only suggestion would be to install Leopard (or the OS on which they were working for you), install FCP, DVDSP and compressor, and then upgrade to ML. Seems like a silly solution but I have a feeling it would work. I'm not doing it because it's working on the iMac that's closest to my DVD duplicator. That said, if I had to, I believe that's what I'd try.
Really infuriates me. My business depends on DVD sales and there really isn't another cost effective DVD authoring solution for the mac out there.
I do wish you the best of luck and would love to hear if you come up with a better solution.

  • Does this iPad 2 case work with the new iPad?

Would this iPad 2 case work with the new iPad, or any other similar cases that do?

    Thanks for the help.

If it's made of rigid material (which I think is the case), then, most probably it won't. I certainly wouldn't pay 30 pounds for it just to find out it doesn't work.
As sagarpachorkar has stated, iPad 2 cases made of non-rigid materials, generally, have a much better chance of fitting the iPad 3 too.

  • Logic Pro no longer works with Firewire 1814 after updating drivers

I was attempting to hook up 2 M-Audio Firewire 1814 units and use them from Logic Pro 7. The older driver I was using would actually crash with this configuration, and so I updated to the latest driver, thinking this might solve the problem.
Well, the M-Audio driver now comes up fine - I can even monitor the signal levels coming from both devices in the associated UI. However, when I launch Logic Pro, I get the following message:
"Logic Pro has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers."
Although I can arm some of the lower track numbers (I still get this message), I cannot do so with higher track numbers.
Effectively, installing the latest M-Audio driver has broken my version of Logic Pro for whatever reason.
Removing and reinstalling the driver made no difference.
    Any thoughts, anyone??

The M-Audio driver does not support 2 devices in Logic Pro.

  • Final Cut Pro / Logic Pro Don't Work with MacBook Pro

I think it's pretty bad public relations that Apple would knowingly sell a new product that does not work with Logic 7.1 or Final Cut Studio, and not bother to tell you.
We found out the hard way when after a post-production editor spent 3 hours trying to reinstall the discs and called an Apple Support center. They informed us that because of Intel Chips we needed to replace our software completely and pay Apple a fee of $50 per title for this benefit.
I can live with spending $100 for software which is less than 1 year old (although I think Apple will be sued over this one if not their pathetic support of iPod batteries) but why is so hard for Apple Computers as a company to advise customers when software doesn't work?
For Apple to call this product a "Pro" product and support it with such pathetic disdain for the client and to not advise their so-called 'geniuses' of this (dare I use the word) "glitch" is really hilarious.
To 'fix' this problem, go to

    G5 1.8GHz / G4 17" 1.67GHz / MB Pro 2.16GHz +2GRAM Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I don't know what's worse, the fact that some of the replies here are completely immature and stupid, or the fact that some of you have hundreds of posts meaning that you don't seem to do anything else all day except stare at the Apple website and look for things to pick at.
I have a right as a consumer to complain, and no, this doesn't equate to buying beachfront property or the number of children I have relative to rooms in my house, it equates to whether or not Apple, as a company, feels it is important to notify customers in a meaningful way of changes within their product offerings.
I'm happy you all seem to have nothing else to do all day except stare at the Apple website, I personally would rather stare at that beachfront property in Big Sur.

  • Are there any Updates for Logic Pro 9 to work with Yosemite?

I updated my iMac to the OS X Yosemite 10.10 and my M-Audio Fast Track board does not work with my Logic Pro 9.
Is there a way or Updates available to make them work together? I work with music and I am LOSING TIME AND MONEY on this...
    Thanks for ANY help

It's not Logic 9 that's the problem, if the M-Audio device is not compatible with Yosemite Core Audio (which I don't believe it is) no version of Logic will be able to use it. Before any upgrade of main applications or operating system one needs to check and see if all related hardware is supported. Hopefully you have a backup of your last working configuration.

  • Logic Pro 8 *can* work with 10.7 - some testing required!

This is just a separating out of a post I made in another thread try it out - see what works - and what doesn't!
"For those with Logic Pro 8 and 10.7 obviously,
Just humour me and go to your Applications folder.
Find your Logic Pro app and ctrl click (or right click on it)
    Then click 'show package contents'
Then in the resulting folder, double click on 'contents'
Then double click on 'Mac OS'
Finally double click on the file named 'Logic Pro'....
    What happens for you next??"
    -Rob

I've tried this (Mainstage) on both my home and mobile setups and there is one anomaly....
If I try to open a saved concert from the 'open recent concerts' menu item, nothing happens - However if I open a saved concert from the normal 'open' menu item, it all works as it should. Apart from that everything else 'just works'.
Obviously there is a variance between my findings and worshipvertical's, which is why I urge everyone to test for themselves to see what works and what does not.
If it works, great! You've saved a pot of money - If it does not work, I'm not sure I'd retain that much in the way of loyalty to the Logic platform, especially in view of the shorter and shorter enforced obsolescence periods that are now being forced upon us. Who knows where Apple is going next?
My opinions and findings, nothing more - or less

  • Does Logic 8.0.2 work with OS 10.6.7?

I need to upgrade my Sibelius 3.1.3 to version 7 - I currently have OS 10.4.11 but the minimum requirement is OS 10.6.7.
I've just put in 8GB RAM as a start.
If I get 10.6.7 I'm not sure whether Logic 8.0.2 will still work.
Also wondering which other programs currently on my mac will stop working and need upgrading.
I also have Waveburner, Soundtrack Pro, Wavepad, all of which I use regularly.
Any advice before I take the plunge?

    Hi, Smiz.
I've got the first intel MBP running 8.0.2 on SL 10.6.8. Logic runs fine on 2G ram [wish I could add more but this machine won't take it.]
You shouldn't have any problems, but do a backup either via time machine or the mac HD to another hdd. The if its bad you can go back.
    Good luck with the upgrades

  • How I got my 2011 MacBook Pro (17") to work with the UML290 without any 'hackery'

Frustrated and fed up with waiting for Verizon to finally fully support an operating system that is almost two and a half years old now, I decided to experiment and play around with things myself.  Here is what I learned:
For some reason, the "dial your number" network hack that people got working didn't work for me.  I set up everything as the tutorials all said (GRPS (GSM/2G), APN to "vzwinternet", dial your phone number, user name is [email protected], password is vzw, CID 3, etc).  It just would not work for me.  Maybe it's becasue I had my UML290 hooked up to a Windows 7 box that updated the firmware, which may have rendered this 'hack' inept.  I don't know; all I know as that, despite trying to get this method to work for several days, I was never able to get it to work.
There was no way, as far as I could see, to force the Verizon Access Manager (VZAM) software to run in 32bit mode as you can with most other programs.  Typically, you can hilight a program, press CMD+I and select a checkbox to run an app in 32bit mode, but no such option existed for VZAM (for whatever reason).
Finally, I found a workaround to get the modem working until Verizon gets their act together and makes VZAM work with 64bit OS X.  Here's how:
    Completely power off your computer.
Depress and hold the "3" key and the "2" key (at the top of your keyboard) at the same time BEFORE pressing the power button.
Press the power button while continuing to hold the "3" key and the "2" key.
Continue to hold the "3" key and the "2" key until the login prompt comes up.
Log in as normal (you may have to remove a bunch of characters from the password field; just CMD+A and delete what's in there and type your password as usual).
After following the steps above, you should have forced your Mac to run in 32bit mode.  Run VZAM as normal and you should have no trouble connecting to the 4G/3G network.
Note: This measure is TEMPORARY, and will force OS X to load the 32bit kernel instead of the default 64bit kernel (if your MacBook is set up to use the 64bit kernel by default).  This change will be undone at your next restart provided you do not hold down the "3" key and the "2" key.
Note: If you used previously posted "dial-up" methods to get your modem working on your Mac, you will need to undo the 'damage' to your settings that that workaround caused.  Please see my post here (post 14) for detailed instructions on how to do so.
Note: This is a temporary solution that carries with it some down sides:
True 64bit support offers higher levels of security than 32bit.
You will likely be unable to use more than 3GB of of memory as a 32bit OS cannot, by nature, address that much RAM.
Please let me know if you have any problems.  I can't promise I can help, but I'll do my best.

Hey, it's a simple fix that should give most people what they want until there is full VZW support: the ability to use their card with the VZAM software.  I didn't see anyone else offering that suggestion...  If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
At the very least, this does seem to prove the theory that this is an issue with the 32/64bit compatability that some have refuted.

  • Does Adobe Indesign CS 6 work with the Mac Book Pro?

I am looking at buying a Mac Book Pro but have to be able to use Adobe Indesign CS6. Are they compatible?

I would check over these against the spec, I am sure it would run just fine. From my experience, the more RAM the better.

  • Fuzzy logic 4 doesn't work with the KT4-SR!

    why ;( ?!

I also have problems running Fuzzy Logic.
I do not run any other utilities, and I have the latest version of it. When I run the program, it sits in the system tray, if I try to click on it, nothing happens. Taskmanager shows FL4 uses around 99% of the CPU. Aslo, when I shut down after running FL4, Win XP can take upto 10 mins to kill the app.
Does anyone have a fix, re-installing or upgrading FL4 doesn't work.
Alternativly, is there another program that can be used?
    I have:
