Does LR2 support Win XP Pro (not Vista) 64-bit ??

Greetings -
Still spec'ing that new machine.
Was wondering whether LR 2.x supports WinXP Pro 64.
(Knowledgeable and trusted colleagues have advised me to run, not walk, from Vista.)
Thanks much.

Your colleagues may be trusted but they are not necessarily knowledgeable. If you are running a current generation machine with the resources to run a 64-bit OS, and don't have legacy hardware/software needs, Vista x64 is an exceptionally solid OS.  Sorry but I am simply tired of all of the "someone else told me something bad about Vista" posts. The 64 bit version of LR was designed for Vista 64 and it shows - the same is also true of the 64 bit version of PS CS4.  Neither are supported on the 64 bit version of XP, which was a dead end & hamstrung OS from the day it was released.  Actually, the 64 bit version of PS CS4 is really only available for Vista since they did not put out a Mac version either.  I am sorry if this comes off as abrupt, but if you don't want to run Vista, that should be based upon your specific needs, not because someone told you to run (whatever that means). Lots of people will tell you to run from LR but since you are here I guess you use it.
Actually, I wish I could find the link off the HP forums where someone pulled up a list of everyones' issues with XP back in its first couple years.  People just don't pay attention to that since there was a larger gap between the release of Vista and XP and XP then between XP and 98/Me/2000.  The joke is many of the XP complaints are just as valid today as they were in 2002 - people have just gotten used to the BSODs, miscellaneous crashes, corrupt drivers, security breaches, etc. which are BTW much less common in Vista.
As it stands the Windows 7 RC is now out and the RTM will likely be in a few months.  Windows 7 really is a second generation Vista-based OS (same underlying code) and brings the technological successes of Vista (there are plenty) together with a highly optimized code and more refined interface. Perhaps you might want to consider the Windows 7 option if you want 64 bit & current generation software like LR (machines bought with Vista after 7/1 get a free upgrade to Windows 7 upon release).  The 64 bit version generally ran well as a beta and (so far) the RC looks stable. The LR bugs from the beta (at least in my copy of the RC) all seem to have been resolved. The Pro, Enterprise, and Ultimate versions of Windows 7 will also have the option to run Virtual XP SP3 for legacy apps.  That is a licensed copy of XP SP3 running in a version of Virtual PC directly from the Windows 7 desktop.
Sorry again if I was overly abrupt. You certainly have options, although I wouldn't put the 64 bit version of XP on any list....

  • Win 7 Pro not connecting to remote Win 7 pro via port 3389

I have a new Dell XPS 8700 Win Pro 64 bit that will not connect to work machine of same specs, i.e, XPS 8700 Win 7 Pro. Ironically an old lap top running XP Pro
will connect to work computer. I have a new Dell laptop with Win 8.1 pro that will not connect either.  I tried everything, uninstalled Symantec End point, shut off the Windows Firewall, did a complete
hardware check via Dell Diagnostics, made sure network discovery was on as well as all remote services, turned on RD, changed every setting on the  RD dialog box, pinged the external IP and it timed out. None of the forums seem to have an answer and I
am at wits end. I set up 15 machines at work under Win 7 for RD and all are working with Win 7 Pro.

    Hello Al Wayne,
    What is your current situation?
Please share us more information for better analyzation as Frederik Long mentioned.
Do you mean that the Dell XPS 8700 and laptop can’t RDP to work Windows 7 machines, but the Windows XP laptop can RDP to?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Share us the result of command ipconfig /all in the source and destination computers
    2. Check if we can ping the Windows 7 machines from the Dell XPS 8700 and laptop

  • Time capsule only seems to work with my macbook pro, not vista. (wifi)

So I received my TC today and set it up. Everything is working perfectly except the new wifi network I created only works with my macbook pro, not my other laptop that has windows vista installed on it. It only works with vista when I take off the password from the network. When it's on, it says something about the settings being invalid for that particular computer. I think it has something to do with the WPA2 encryption.
    Any suggestions?

    Nobody?

Hi William. Unfortunately, Vista is not a supported OS for Lightroom 5 or Lightroom 6. You'll need Windows 7 or later. See here:  System requirements

  • HT3814 Why does iTunes on my MacBook Pro not remember/save edited info about CDs? It does on my G4.

I haven't used iTunes in awhile to play CDs. Lately though it is not remembering CD info I put into iTunes. I have been using iTunes since the late 90s. I have always been able to edit info for ANY CD I play on iTunes and that computer would remember that info. Lately my MacBook Pro isn't remembering this info. I am able to edit CDs on my G4 Powerbok and it is remembering the info. (The G4 is using 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). I am using 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1 (7) on the MBP.) This used to work on the MBP but I haven't dealt with CDs in 6 months or so so I don't know more closley when this behavior changed.)
I've had a go-rounds with Apple Care. Some say I have to import each track for iTunes to remember any edits on that track. I tried that today and that appears to be how things work now. That was not the case up until now. Has iTunes changed how it works?
I realize that iTunes will read file names on the CD if they are burned into the CD. I used Toast for some recent CDs I burned on the MBP awhile ago and voila, those files names are appearing whern I pop the CD in. I cannot edit them so that iTunes remembers them though unless I import whatever track I wanted to edit the info from. OK. That's a step backwards but OK. (I realize I am not editing the info on the CD itself. Once a CD is burned that's impossible, I would only be editing the info that iTunes has about it...) Most of the CDs I have burned do not have track titles as file names.
I know about the CD Info.cidb file. That is where info that I add manually (and info that Gracenote adds, which I also can edit...) gets saved. In the past I could edit ANY CD, regardless of where it came from, and that info would be saved in that file. That is not happening now.
I have moved the CD Info.cidb file to my desktop and edited some info. ITunes is NOT creating a new CD Info.cidb file.
So, has anything changed with iTunes or is there something else going on here? It could be a third-party app or an OS problem.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John L
PS Apple Care is looking into this some more and will call me back next Thursday if not before then. My fingers are crossed that will have some info that is helpful. If I now have to import a track so that I can edit it (and save that info) on a CD, well, so be it but it doesn't seem to be a step forward...
PPS For some reason, Apple put this under the iTunes Store. I would have put it under just iTunes. I forget the page where I asked the title of this question (which has since been edited). It then brought me to this particular forum. I would have moved it if I could...

Basically anything not purchased from iTunes that is on my iPhone 6 will not sync over to my MacBook. I have tried to just manually back it up but only the purchased music will sync over to iTunes.

  • Win 7 Pro not recognizing Adaptec 29320 drives

I recently installed a new Motherboard in an existing system and installed Windows 7 Pro.
The system  included  a Adaptec 23390D SCSI card and 4 ultra320 SCSI drives.
I downloaded the drivers for this card from Adaptec, there site says the driver is compatible with Windows 7.
I then went to Device Manager and clicked on, clicked on Storage Controllers, Adaptec 39320-based Ultra 320 SCSI, and clicked update controller and received driver installed message.
On Boot the BIOS display show the Controller  Bios and the 4 SCSI drives.
But when I go to Disk Management the drives do not show up.
    What did do wrong?

What is the status of devices under Storgae Controller in device manager? Under disk management, it just display nothing or a “Unallocated” space? if it is a
“Unallocated” space, then please refer to this link:<o:p></o:p>
Create a New Partition on a Windows 7 Hard Disk<o:p></o:p>
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/gg309170.aspx<o:p></o:p>
if not, then what is the result if we boot into safe mode, in safe mode, Windows starts with a limited set of files and drivers, this can help us to eliminate some driver conflicts.<o:p></o:p>
Please also keep the latest BIOS and chipest drivers to check the result.<o:p></o:p>

  • Cannot install Quicktime Pro on Vista-64 bit machine

Quicktime 7 appears to be properly installed, plays video etc but there is no QT icon in the Control Panel, as required to open QT Pro in a Windows system. I have deleted and reinstalled QT 7, followed (twice) the detailed instructions in "General Installation Troubleshooting", but still no icon. Apple will not refund the price of a downloaded purchase. Any clues to how to make it work?

Quicktime may not come in 64-bit version the way that iTunes is, but that doesn't mean it isn't supported on Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

  • Win 7 Pro (via Parallels 6), Snow Leopard, and a USB thumb drive

This is probably a simple fix...
When I plug in a thumb drive, Snow Leopard recognizes it.  When I tell Parallels to "share" the same thumb drive, Win 7 Pro installs the driver and it recognizes the thumb drive under "Devices."  But Win 7 Pro does not "see" the thumb drive under "My Computer."
Is this an issue with Win 7 Pro not recognizing the thumb drive since the drive was formatted under Snow Leopard?

Check to see what format your thumb drive was formatted as...most of the time the format is MS-DOS (FAT32) when purchasing the majority of thumb drive storage...I want to assume at some point you reformatted your thumb drive as Mac OS Extended.
    1. Mount thumb drive onto your mac...hilight your thumb drive and choose COMMAND-I.
    2. Check the Format field: (type of format).
If your thumb drive ends up being Mac OS Extended...backup all your files onto your desktop, lauch Disk Utility, Choose your thumb drive and format as MS-DOS (FAT). Copy files back to your thumb drive.
You now have yourself a dual format thumb drive that should mount without issue on any mixed Mac/PC/Parallels enviroment.

  • Is J2EE supported win'95, win'98 platform?

Which operating system is needed to run J2EE? Does it support Win'98 or
one has to move to WIN NT?
I am not able to launch J2EE server on win'98 platform.
    Thanks in advance
    Sakina

    Hi,
I have run J2EE on Win98 without any problems, although NT4.0 can/ was a source of problems at times especiallly connecting to Access database. I am now running Win2000 also, and I think this is a brilliant updated version of nt4. Recommend using cloudscape or I have now set up MySql as database system. Access is fine for testing, not much else!
    Never tried it on win95.
    I have been using j2ee v1.2.1 rather than 1.3
    Hope this helps.

  • Does J2ME support GPRS?

    Hi,
I am fairly new to J2ME and I would appreciate if you could help me with my questions.
I am designing a wireless application. This wireless application is going to run in the background. The application is going to read data from the GPS (built in mobile device) and based on the business logic, it is going to send the phone number to a centralized server. I dont want the user to do anything therefore I am designing this application to run in the background like a daemon. I want this applicatio to handle everything rather than the user. Here are my questions:
    1. Do you see any problems with this design?
    2. What is the best way to send this data back to centralized server?
    3. Do I have to have a mobile device with GPRS to access to this centralized server? If so does J2ME support GPSR? If not, what should I be using?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mustafa

    Hi;
    Trying to help you...
    1. Do you see any problems with this design? Yeah.... Background J2ME applications is not possible yet until MIDP2 specifications. MIDP3 probabily will have.
    2. What is the best way to send this data back to
centralized server? You can make a phone web-client sending a request to a servlet.
    3. Do I have to have a mobile device with GPRS to
access to this centralized server? If so does J2ME
support GPSR? If not, what should I be using?Yeah, you can send it over GPRS. J2ME does support this... actually, GPRS is a data switch protocol... witch turns possible to send data... its transparent for J2ME.
Try to make a simple web servlet receiving the data in parameters header. You can use a free Application Server like Tomcat (Catalina). So, use your midlet for access filling the header with the parameters and send it over your web access.

  • Does SAP Support the "XML Process Definition Language" (XPDL)

Does SAP support XPDL. IF not what is the alternative standard that they support?
    regards,
    Thomas

As far as I know there isn't any support for XML process description language. they only alternative is OMG BPDL, which is still under work.
Many people tend to compare XPDL to BPEL, although it is not so right. I think that this link http://kswenson.wordpress.com/2006/05/26/bpmn-xpdl-and-bpel/ explain it.

  • Does RMI supports multi threading?

Hi, Does RMI supports Multi threading or not? What is the disadvantage of RMI and why EJB came?
    Thanks in advance
    By
    vinod

    (a) yes
    (b) firewall penetration is its biggest problem
    (c) EJB is built over RMI, don't get the wrong idea about that. It's a large topic - search as recommended, especially for the Sun White Papers
