Does Mac OS 10.8.2 support dictionary in language other than English.

Does Dictionary in Safari and Mail support language other than English (say Chinese and Japanese)?  In iOS, I can simply highlight a word, press "Define" and boom...result is there.  But in Mac OS, I tried highlighting Chinese and Japanese words, dictionary replied with "Result not found".  Is this a setting issue or foreign language dictionary is not yet available in 10.8.2?  Thanks!

Wow.....that's fantastic!  I couldn't understand a word from my supplier before.  Now it works, thanks Tom!

  • Is there Java support for Indian languages other than Hindi?

I'd like to use Tamil as a test language for some translated java files.
I don't know whether it is supported or not.
Alternatives are Bangla, Gujararati, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Telugu. Are any of these supported?
I'd prefer not to use Hindi.
The only website I can find listing the languages supported is from 2003. If you have a link to a more recent one, I would appreciate it.

Locale is basically a glorified String[], so the idea that some locales are supported and others are not is sort of illusory.
    Quoting from the API...
    [quote begins]
Locale(String language, String country, String variant)
The language argument is a valid ISO Language Code. These codes are the lower-case, two-letter codes as defined by ISO-639... The country argument is a valid ISO Country Code. These codes are the upper-case, two-letter codes as defined by ISO-3166...
Because a Locale object is just an identifier for a region, no validity check is performed when you construct a Locale...
The Locale class provides a number of convenient constants that you can use to create Locale objects for commonly used locales...
A Locale is the mechanism for identifying the kind of object (NumberFormat) that you would like to get. The locale is just a mechanism for identifying objects, not a container for the objects themselves.
    [quote ends]
In other words, if you wanted to make up your own local for the language that they speak on Planet X (Xian), you could perfectly well have a Local object for that and properties or list files for it.

I use different languages in my daily activities, when typing other than English Mac does not recognize them, is there anyway can Mac stop suggesting or automatically correcting me?

Is this a problem with the computer or with the word processor? MS Word for example seems to think its grammar and spelling are better than mine - they are not. You have to go into MS Word preferences and uncheck all the useless "help" it wants to provide.

  • Does it have other-than english dictionary?

    hello
i wonder if Leopard comes with more other-than-english-dictionary...
Mac Dictionary is very useful because one can simply press ctrlcmmdD under any app and have words looked up... so i'd like to have other than english words looked up quickly...
or if anyone knows of other 3rd party dictionaries working with Mac's dictionary... i'd appreciate your help...
    thanks

With the data I have I think English is nor the first either the second in terms of first language, but combining those people who speak it as second language to people who use it as first, it cames to the second-first position. In terms of people who have to use it, English is, by far, the first, as in the internet (English-Chinese-Spanish) and in terms of influence (English-French-Spanish). For me, as many other spanish people, is a great help to have a English dictionary (a good one) included in the OS. Maybe it's more useful than having the spanish one, but it would be a good step to integrate some other like RAE of Spanish, and I think it's not dificult, since the dictionary is done, as the Oxford one.
A note: Chinese is not only Mandarin but the amalgam of dialects derivated called standard Chinese.

  • Creating dictionary project in other than default datasource

I want to create a dictionary project in other than default datasource . Every time I create a dictionary project and create archive and deploy it ...It creates tables in SAP default datasource MAXDB . I have created another datasource pointing to MSSQL in visual admin . I want dictionary project to be deployed to this datasource without making MSSQL  as default datasource . Can anyone please let me know how to do this ?
    Thanks in advance
    Bhat

    Hi Alka,
from your post, it is not entirely clear to me what you are atempting to do.
    1) Do you need help with accessing tables in a non-default schema?
    2) Do you want to determine all tables in the default schema?
If 1), please follow the hints given by Vladimir Pavlov.
If 2), currently, the method DatabaseMetaData.getTables() is unfortunately not supported in Open SQL/JDBC. We are currently preparing a new download of the NetWeaver Java EE 5 edition. In this version, the getTables() method will be supported.
Or do you just want to check for the existence of a specific database table in the default schema?
    I hope this helps,
    Best regards,
    Adrian

  • Writing in pages in Afrikaans. Spellcheck keep on correcting to dutch. Switched off spell check and checkeed keyaboard settings. Where do I get languages other than what Apple offer and where is the dictionary, Library, spelling files.

Writing in pages in Afrikaans. Spellcheck keep on correcting to dutch. Switched off spell check and also looked in System preferences - keyboard. this stops the "Auto-correct" but does not help me with Afrikaans or other language spell check.  Where do I get languages other than what Apple offer and where is the dictionary, Library, spelling files.

You are basically limited to what Apple deigns to offer.
Try LibreOffice [free] which has a huge selection of languages.

  • Does Mac OS X in 64 bits takes longer to boot than in 32 bits?

Hello, Does Mac OS X 10.6.3 in 64 bits mode takes longer to boot than in 32 bits mode?. If I boot Mac OS X in my MacBook Pro 5.1 in 64 bits mode it takes 51.3 sec, and if I boot it in 32 bits mode it takes 33.1 sec. I just want to know if this is normal or not. And in case this is normal I would appreciate it a lot if someone could explain me why it takes longer to boot in 64 bits mode than in 32 bits mode.
Thank you a lot for any help that you could give me

Just the opposite for me. My early 2008 Mac Pro definitely boots (and runs) faster in 64 bit mode. As Barry mentioned though, you may not want to do this.
The main rule is kernel extensions. If you have anything that needs to load on boot that is only 32 bit (mouse, keyboard, scanner or other type of driver/software), then you must boot in 32 bit mode or they won't load.
As long as all of your boot software is 64 bit compatible, then booting 64 bit is fine. 32 bit software you launch after the OS is up and running will still run as 32 bit with the OS in 64 bit mode.

  • Does Endeca Server(Mdex) in latitude support East Asian languages?

    Hi,
    we're on latitude 2.2.2
the Mdex engine in Latitude is different from the one in Infront, without Basic RLP to do the indexing and word segmentation for East Asian Language. In this way latitude cannot support Chinese or Japanese keyword search. is this correct?
If so, can endeca server integrate with Basic and how to do it?
    Thanks!
    Flo

    Flo,
    1. I'm not aware how a third-party language engine could be integrated into Latitude/Information Discovery. We certainly don't document it or supported it.
    2. Studio 2.2 or 2.3 cannot use Infront MDEX as a data source. The reason is that the API used by Studio to make calls to the MDEX must be compatible with the interface on that MDEX. So in the case you mention, you would have an MDEX 7 API (in Studio) trying to make calls to an MDEX (InFront) that supports only MDEX 6 API calls. Therefore, the versions of both Studio and the MDEX must always match (as listed in the Install Guide).

  • Accents (does Adobe have something against other languages different than English?)

I am absolutely astonished with this problem. I understand that in the previous versions (up to 1.3) Adobe does not care about millions of persons typing with accents (around 3500 billions of persons, 60% the whole world population) but I cannot understand why Adobe has not solved this problem in the v2. FYI although Lightroom accepts the keywords with accents (by pasting), does not allow type them directly over the keyword field. And this is a nightmare for me, especially when my name is Joaquín, not Joaquin... This is not the first time that I read this claim, why Adobe do not solve this stupid problem that Aperture does not have?
FYI if you type Joaquín, Lightroom type Joaqu´´in. Different right?
    Best,
    Jokin

Hi Sean, "ñ" is working fine. The problem are the accents because to put an accent using Spanish as language you should press two keys. I am working in Windows XP. No otheher application has showed this problem. As soon as I press the accent key, instead of show nothing, waiting for the letter to put the accent, Lightroom is showing "´´", a double accent alone. The paste is working, so Lightroom accepts accents but not to type them at least in my system. This is happening at least in three different computers using Windows XP and Spanish Internation sort as language.
Thomas and Sean, please, try the following. Let's type in the Keyword Tag panel my name Joaquín not Joaquin. So, the "i" is containing the accent "í".
You first has to change the language to Spanish International sort, then type "Joaqu" as usual and the "í" has to be introduced using two steps (this is the only way with the exception for using directly the specific ASCII code for "í"). So, to put "í" you should press the keyword " (it is the keyword which is left to the "enter" keyword) and then press the keyword "i". The results should be "í" but you will see how Lightroom will type "´´i" instead.

  • How do I choose a specific version of IOS?  I'm doing app testing and I need to test a version other than what iTunes provides as the latest

I am testing applications and I want to run an IOS version that is not the latest version offered by iTunes.  ex: Plug in my iPod Touch and the latest version of IOS being offered in the update option is version 4.2.  I need to test v4.1.  How can I download and downgrade my device?

Downgrading iOS is not supported by Apple. You may find workarounds on other web sites if you do a web search for such information, e.g. "downgrade iOS". You can links to Apple's direct downloads for iOS 4.1 here, among other places:
    http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-4.1-final-version-for-iphone-4-3gs-3g-ipo d-touch/
though there are no guarantees as to how long Apple will continue to have those available.

  • I am short of HD space to save the ipad ios5 download in itunes. Does anyone know how to save it to a location other than the c:?

I have just bought an ipad2 (great except when have occaisonal wi fi issues) that I want to upgrade to ios5
I have itunes on version 10.5.1
When I plug in my ipad - I follow the route to obtaining the ipad update but it is 700MB and I have limited space on my c:. I have 4GB on my partioned D: and this is the location where I have my itunes media files, plus also some on a 1TB external HD
It doesn't seem to matter what I do - but the ipad update seems to be being saved down to the C: [as I'm getting PC messages saying that I'm running out of space]. I've spent 2 nights stripping it back to free up 800MB but the ipad download stops at about 600MB
Is there a way I can force the download to go to the D:, where I have plenty of space?
    Any ideas appreciated?
    Thanks

How do you move the frame? Like I said, it is not how it was filmed.  In the smaller version that you can scroll through, it looks normal, but in the viewing window it looks like it is zoomed in.  I tried pinching with my fingers (how you would to zoom out of a photo) and it didn't work.

  • My CS5 creative suite license does not allow me to install in another language other than Spanish, w

I live in a country of Latin America and the purchase of a license is in Spanish automatically by default, but I need to have it in English because I am used to working in that language, would appreciate any help

Well, now I cannot reproduce the error because I cannot install it again! Woohoo! For some reason, all three discs executables try installing the folders, files, etc... into a different folder making it when I try installing CS2 impossible since it asks for Disc 2, Disc 3, etc..
ANYWAY, my main issue was began with when I somehow managed to install it correctly, I got the very same message I contacted you guys over: Adobe Photoshop will now close because missing serial number something like that, and following it saying it will close.

  • Support for Malayalam language

I wish to buy a Mac. Whether there any support for Malayalam language there? If so which unicode version is using?

Good News! While reading the features of the upcoming OS X Lion, I found extended language support, including Malayalam! The fonts are probably the same as those by nickshanks, but they might be different since the original fonts were made for iOS devices.
    Expanded language support
Twenty new font families for document and web display of text provide support for the most common languages in the Indian subcontinent, including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Sinhala, and Telugu. Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Urdu, and Tamil have been expanded. And three new font families support Lao, Khmer, and Myanmar.
