Does mac os/os server support parallel or multiprocessing?

Looking for the simplest way to increase processing power for some projects and have several mac desktops. Was wondering if mac os or os server support parallel or multiprocessing?

No, you cannot combine multiple computers to increase total processing power. Apple no longer supports the software for it.

  • What does Mac OS 10.5 support?

I have a G4 Power Mac AGP Sawtooth running 1.3 MHz with 2 GB RAM and 2 MB for L3. Does Mac OS 10.5 support my machine? If so, how much will the Mac OS slow down my machine?
Thank you in advance for your information.
    Robert

If the 1.3 Ghz processor you put in does not act like a true PowerMac G4 1.3 Ghz in the view of the Leopard installer, it won't let you install. The processor needs specialized support from its manufacturer to allow Leopard to install, or third party software called Leopard Assist. Either way, you are building yourself a jalopy, because it is not officially tested as a configuration by Apple. Any updates you do past an unofficially tested configuration you are on your own or at the mercy of the vendor who supplied the processor.
Apple set the limit based on its built-in processors and its firmware. The firmware supplied by third party firmware for upgraded processors is different.

  • Mac os x server support for iWeb

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any way to set up a Mac OS X server (10.5) to support iWeb created websites such that comments could be enabled much like they work with MobileMe?
    Thanks,
    -z

    Always with the RTFM...
Anyway, like I said, I'm not running Snow Leopard Server so I don't know if this has already been implemented and quick web searches for such do not bring anything up but it doesn't hurt to ask. If it hasn't I'd like to not only request some features in future versions but ALSO to inquire if there are others in the iWeb "Community" who would also like such features. The feature request link you provided is a black hole and doesn't really provide much feedback. Finally, someone might have a solution for including comment in iWeb created websites that I haven't already encountered or figured out on my own.

  • Does Mac OS X Server 10.6 Auto Configure a Connected Airport Basestation?

I just finished an install of Snow Leopard Server on a new Mac Mini. A 1TB Airport Time Capsule is directly connected to the Mini via Ethernet (and our cable internet modem is also directly connected via Ethernet to the Time Capsule).
I have a static IP address.
During the installation of the server onto the Mini there seemed to be a period during which the server took control of the Airport device and auto-configured it then reset it. At first, it seemed that all services were available externally (i.e. web) from the internet.
However, I may have been wrong as now none of the services respond from outside the network.
I thought that Mac OS X Server would automatically configure an attached Airport device. Is that correct? Or must I work through the Airport device and manually configure all of the port settings to enable external access?

First off I would check the console and see what it says when you try to log in with the admin account. It will give a message saying what the issue is.
Also is this a local admin or a network admin account?

  • Does mac mini (late 2014) supports dual-band wifi sharing?

    Hello,
First of all, i'm not native speaker, so, please excuse my poor english.
I have a mac mini (late 2014) and use the wifi-sharing feature of yosemite.
(Ethernet is connected to Mac mini and other devices such as mac air are connected to Mac mini through wifi)
For wifi-sharing, channel 44 is used, and as i know, it is located on 5Ghz band.
By the way, i plan to buy a sony srs x7 bluetooth speaker which also supports airplay only on 2.4GHz wifi internet.
If i wanna connect that speaker to Mac-mini's hotspot, should i change the wifi-channel of mac-mini to 2.4GHz band? or, can mac mini provides wifi hotspot for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously?

Bluetooth is a different network than the wifi network. BT is 2.4 GHz only while wifi cn be 2.4 and/or 5 GHz.
Your BT speakers will work fine using the BT capability of the Mac

  • Does MAC OS X Tiger supports the Iris Biz Card Reader II ?

Am trying to find out whether there is any business card reader compatible with the MAC OS X Tiger. Card reader mentioned in question above is supported though by Panther version, am unaware about the Tiger version. Anybody able to advise me ? (or to suggest an alternative hardware brand?)

Most devices that worked under 10.3 also work under 10.4 although some need a driver update. The best thing would be to connect the device to your computer and see of it works. You can also check with the mfgr to see if there are any issues.

  • Does Mac OS X perfectly supports Esperanto?

As I found Esperanto as an option in the Edit List of "International" in "System Preferences", can I switch the OS into Esperanto with some preference settings? if not, how can I get the source for the pure Esperanto interface?
    Thanks in advance.

can I switch the OS into Esperanto with some preference settings?
    No.
how can I get the source for the pure Esperanto interface?
You can't, it doesn't exist. The localizations available in OS X are listed in detail in the tech specs:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
Reading and writing Esperanto is no problem, however.

  • Does Mac support 1080p video?

Does mac and imovie 11 support 1080p video?

"Got your "Ins and Outs of iMovie" eBook; did not finish reading.
Read Appendix B (720p) or C (1080p). Here is some additional information for you:
When you next launch iMovie, and create a new project, the Project Properties will show 25fps or 30fps.
However, when you drag the first 50p or 60p clip into the project, when you check Project Properties you will see the fps field is blank.
Do not click in this Properties field.
From this point onward, iMovie will work at 50fps or 60fps.
Animated effects created by iMovie will be, however, created at25fps or 30fps. Each frame will be repeated twice.
iMovie must now process twice the number of frames per second, so it may be more sluggish.

  • Mac OS X Server on the new Intel based Mac Minis?

I've successfully been running Mac OS X Sever on my G4 based Mac Mini. Does anyone know if it can be run on an Intel Mac Mini? - The install appears to work, but Server Admin doesn't see the Mac, and Software update doesn't seem to find any updates.
Anyone done this successfully / know if it can be run?
    Thanks.
    Mac Mini Intel

Thanks everyone. I called Apple and they actually said it was supported (I spoke to the guy in the Mac OS X Server support area). He said to do what is described in this thread, and then install the incremental updates to Sever admin.
I did all this, but it doesn't work - so I think at this point, we have to assume it's not yet supported.
I suppose you could still install Mac OS X Server on the mini, and then use Server Admin on a different machine to manage it...?

  • Using .mac as outgoing server

I would like to use the .mac as an outgoing server for times when I can't use my comcast server (like when I am on the road). This is for an email address that is NOT a .mac address. I do have a .mac account.
I could have sworn that I had this working at some point in the past, but now it always rejects the outgoing message with the alert:
The SMTP server "smtp.mac.com" rejected the password for the user...
Can someone tell me if it is possible to configure this way? If so, what settings do I use exactly?
Does .mac offer any telephone support? It is very frustrating trying to find out this information.
    Peter

    Hello Peter.
I don't believe you had this working in the past since Apple has always prevented using the .Mac SMTP server for a non-.Mac email account.
I don't believe .Mac provides telephone support.
You can't use Comcast's SMTP server for this email account? Comcast has telephone support but being able to use either Comcast's SMTP server with your Comcast account or the .Mac SMTP server with a .Mac account depends on the ISP used for connecting to the internet when on the road.
If doing so at a hotel, you need to check with the hotel or hotel's ISP for the required SMTP server settings to send mail from an email account outside of the ISP's network.

  • MAC Server & iTunes : Does MAC Server support central iTunes repositories?

    I need some help
    Problem:
I have a family of "5" who are all MAC users - all alas have different MAC iTunes repositories. I want to create a central MAC Music repository to ease the pain on my checkbook. Three people bought Nora Jones new Album... one person pays - me
    Setup:
    Potential Server:
    BIGMAC1:
Dual Proc Power PC G4 1.25 Mhz, 1 gb RAM
Gig Ethernet Connectivity with 4 Terabytes of RAID storage.
    Clients:
    5 MAC's... (Mac Mini, 24" iMac (intel), 2 Mac Book Pro's (Intel), and a 12" Power PC)
    Current Setup:
I use symbolic links from the desktops to BIGMAC Music repository.
    Mount BIGMAC1 Disk via network
    Open System preferences
    Open Accounts
    Open login items
    Drag BIGMAC1 to login items
    Open iTunes
    <Backup iTunes music directory>
    Select preferences / advanced
Turn off “keep itunes organized” and “copy files to itunes” on all clients
    Exit
    For each user
    Delete <User>/Music/iTunes/”iTunes Music”
    ln –s /Volumes/”BigMAC1 Disk”/Music ./<User>/Music/iTunes/”iTunes Music”
Copy any purchased music to BIGMAC1
    Open iTunes on Client
    Delete Music library in iTunes
    Select add to library
    Select /Volumes/”BigMAC1 Disk”/Music
Once complete your all using the same repository
Issue: If someone adds new music you have to know and add it to you your library…
This works but every so often some family member does something that duplicates all the files in iTunes. I suspect this is something to do with consolidate music library options. "Picture Homer Simpson looking frustrated"
    Help: Is their Recommended Solution?
The above sort of work but is not perfect and I am not a "nerd". I need to maintain my social skills and would love to know if I can just install MAC Server or something equivalent and fix this.
In short: Does MAC Server solve this or does something else?
Hey Apple: I would line up and buy a solution if one existed...
    1. MAC Server in basement… access to music from PC around house. Music ordered is stored on basement PC and backup automatically…
    2. The ability to add a fourth child under account (MAC limit 5 machines to one iTunes Account)
Apple: I am not breeding until you allow me to purchase another person to the family music account…. You would stunt their childhood if this is not fixed...
    TechnoPhobe!

Your solution is as good as any to let you share iTunes tracks, especially ones purchased from the iTunes store amongst multiple users on a single computer.
If you had multiple computers, you could use the built-in sharing function of iTunes and then access them from the other computers, but the other computers would also need 'authorising' to play the protected tracks.
However there is something else you could consider. Have all the music and protected files on one computer, share it using iTunes, and access it using the new TV box. You could have multiple TV boxes and they would not need authorising to play the protected tracks. They would also not modify your iTunes files causing the problems you have occasionally experienced.
There are other similar approach devices like the Roku Soundbridge, Sonos ZonePlayer, SlimDevices Squeezebox but none of those support tracks purchased from the iTunes store whereas the TV does.

  • Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface I created in Server Hardware Network Dialogue window. Are link aggregated ethernet connections not supported in Lion Server?

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--
Hardware: Mac Pro  3.0 GHZ quad core xeon
I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!
