Does Mac OS X 10.7.4 run on 32 or 64bit?

Hi
I'm currently experiencing a problem running my Suitcase Fusion 4 with my iMac.
When logging onto the web, all web pages shows upo with text as "A" within a block.
To relieve the problem, I've been told to upgrade my software.
However, I need to first varify one thing.
Does OS X 10.7.4 run on 32 or 64bit??
Could you please help?

Thanks for the help.
Is there perhaps a 32bit upgrade available after 10.7.1?

  • Does Mac OS X 10.7 now run 64-bit kernel in Mac mini

(Setup: Mac mini late 2009, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM).
According to the "32- or 64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector.app" my Mac mini has a limitation where it is technically capable of booting with 64-bit kernel but Apple's stock 64-bit EFI does not allow it at least in Mac OS X 10.6. So only 32-bit kernel is possible without hacking the EFI.
So in Mac OS X 10.6 the Activity Monitor lists the kernel as 32-bit.
But in Mac OS X 10.7 there are no non-64-bit kernel or other components in Activity Monitor. Booting back to Mac OS X 10.6 lists the kernel as 32-bit.
So does 10.7 really now boot with 64-bit kernel? Has Apple has changed this in 10.7?

Also VMware Fusion 4 runs in 10.6 and can put Lion Client in a VM. VMware recommends installing 64-bit version of Lion client although 32-bit seems to run OK, too.
The only problem I have is that the only way to get VMware 4.0.2 to run Mac OS X 10.7.1 guest (with VMware Tools installed) in full screen is to first boot VMware in Single Window, _then_ switch to Full Screen. Booting 10.7.1 guest straight to Full Screen does not work because then the 10.7.1 login screen is briefly shown, but then it is scrambled and unusable. VMware is looking into this.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. The following is general information on iTunes sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 and the following is a previous discussion where the post by Andreas Junge helped others that had a problem syncing audiobooks: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20052732#20052732

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Does mac os x 10.7.5 support running x code?

does mac os x 10.7.5 support running x code?

Yes. 4.6.3 is the latest version that'll run on Lion. That said, AFAICT, you can only get Xcode 5, via the MAS, which requires at least 10.8.4. Get Xcode says you can get earlier versions from the development center, but that requires registering for a free account: register as a developer at Apple Developer.

  • Does Mac Pro Intel Runs Os 9???

Hello All I am Using a G4 quicksilver and now planing to buy a Mac Pro G5 Intel... I just want to ask.. does Mac Pro Runs Os 9.2 ??? cause i use few softwares that only runs on Os 9 and i dont want o lose them...
Any Help will be really appreciated...

    For future reference:
The G5 was a CPU chip made by IBM. The Intel means an Intel made CPU. So you would be buying a Mac Pro with an Intel chip and not a G5.

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 cannot burn DVD+R

    Hello all-
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 and I cannot burn DVD+R. Does that make sense?
If I insert a DVD+R into the drive, it just spits it back out. I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD.
    Help.
    Thank you.

I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD
I trust that is several different brands, not several different discs from the same spindle/pack?
    Media varies.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
If you haven't tried a different brand, try a Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
You might also try burning in a new user account to rule out account software troubles.

  • Does Thunderbolt 2 provide the ability to run an External GPU

Does Thunderbolt 2 provide the ability to run an External GPU (Nvidia Quadro 4000) for Mercury Playback in Premiere? The newly announced Mac Pro looks good except their choice in GPU, AMD, is very undesirable for any video editor using Adobe.
Apple seems to be trying to use their hardware to give their inferior software, Final Cut X, a competive edge over Adobe Premiere.
Either way, will it work? Will Thunderbolt 2 allow for full usage of external cards powering the new Mac Pro?
Is anyone else in my situation?

    Thanks for the reply.
I have heard that Thunderbolt PCIe cards are not actually run at full capacity because Thunderbolt is limited in respects of PCIe power.
A PCIe slot has 16x lanes of power and thunderbolt has 8x lanes. I have wondered if Thunderbolt 2 is more powerful in that respect.
I might be wrong on all of this information becuase I have read from mixed sources all over.
As for video editors in my position, I just learned that Adobe plans to provide Mercury playback for the AMD cards that are coming in the new Mac Pro.
Still, I always appreciate overkill and would still love external cards on top of powerful internal cards.

  • Mac mini with 2 - 500GB drives running X serve

Hello - What is the best way to setup raid on a mac mini running 10.6.4x serve that does nothing but serve up netboot? Looking for suggestions..
    Thanks

    Xserve is hardware.
Xserve boxes can have in-board hardware RAID, depending on the particular system configuration.
Mac OS X Server software can boot and operate both on Xserve hardware and Mac Mini Server hardware.
Mac OS X client and Mac OS X Server both offer software-based RAID-1 capabilities.
Netboot is apparently how you're booting Mac OS X client or Mac OS X Server here; the Mac Mini Server box apparently isn't booting off its local disk(s).
If your Netboot image is set up up for and showing it is operating with mirroring once loaded into the Mac Mini Server, then you're running RAID. (Mirroring is software-based RAID-1, after all.)
Mac Mini Server boxes do not offer in-board hardware RAID capabilities, though there are various out-board hardware storage options with support for hardware RAID, in addition to the available software RAID option.
And for completeness, stay away from RAID-5; it has rotten failure modes, and it's getting more and more unreliable as the disk capacities increase. The likelihood of a secondary and catastrophic failure during a RAID rebuild increases with the capacity of the disks involved. (And you don't have enough disks to consider RAID-5 here anyway, but it's fairly common with out-board RAID.)
Also note that RAID is not an archival strategy. RAID protects against disk failures, and not against deletions, accidental operator error or malicious user activities, nor against volume or file corruptions.

  • What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?

My MBP was running the fan almost constantly and otherwise acting odd so I decided to just refresh the installation from scratch. At that time I was running Lion 10.7.5. Before rebuilding everything with that version I want to make sure running Lion on this machine isn't contributing to my issue.
What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
I have every OS release since the original purchase so I can rebuild on the one that's most stable on this laptop.

You can run Mt. Lion if you so wish:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you want the most efficient OS, I would suggest Snow Leopard.
However I suggest doing some investigation prior to installing a new OS.  First do a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also run an Apple Hardware Test.  Use the #2 disk on your original install disk.
If there is no improvement, post back.
    Ciao.

  • Does Mac OS X in 64 bits takes longer to boot than in 32 bits?

Hello, Does Mac OS X 10.6.3 in 64 bits mode takes longer to boot than in 32 bits mode?. If I boot Mac OS X in my MacBook Pro 5.1 in 64 bits mode it takes 51.3 sec, and if I boot it in 32 bits mode it takes 33.1 sec. I just want to know if this is normal or not. And in case this is normal I would appreciate it a lot if someone could explain me why it takes longer to boot in 64 bits mode than in 32 bits mode.
Thank you a lot for any help that you could give me

Just the opposite for me. My early 2008 Mac Pro definitely boots (and runs) faster in 64 bit mode. As Barry mentioned though, you may not want to do this.
The main rule is kernel extensions. If you have anything that needs to load on boot that is only 32 bit (mouse, keyboard, scanner or other type of driver/software), then you must boot in 32 bit mode or they won't load.
As long as all of your boot software is 64 bit compatible, then booting 64 bit is fine. 32 bit software you launch after the OS is up and running will still run as 32 bit with the OS in 64 bit mode.

  • Does mac os x 10.8.2 support java 6?

    Hi
Does mac os x 10.8.2 supports java 6?I want to install java 1.6.0_35 which supports my java application in mac os x 10.7.4 version. My application wont support java 7.Can anyone help me how to install java 1.6.0_35 and uninstallation of java 6 update 43.

    AFAIK, no.
But you'll want to ask this question of Oracle, the owners and providers of Java for OS X.  (Apple deprecated Java a while back, and turned it all over to Oracle to maintain.)
Given that Java 6 has been deprecated by Oracle, adding this support would seem unlikely.
You can install and run an older OS X release or another Java-capable operating system as a VM guest, and use that pending an application update.  (Check the applicable OS X licensing for details of whether that's permissible by license, or check directly with Apple.)
Or update or replace the applications.

does Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion work on my mac W8******VGP
    <Edited by Host>

    Sorry, but no....
Your Late 2006 could go to OS X Lion (10.7) - Apple Store (U.S.), but I recommend keeping it on Snow Leopard 10.6.8
If you are wanting or needing to run Mountain Lion or Mavericks, then you will need to get a newer model Mac.

  • Does Mac OS make PDFs suitable for going to Press?

For some years I've been producing a series of small, relatively simple booklets (4x5", 44pp, text & scanned line-art graphics). I've been putting them together in PageMaker (v.5—yes, in OS 9), and making PDFs to go to press with Acrobat (v.5). Now I can't use PageMaker for the latest one, because it's in Japanese, which PM can't handle; so I'm trying Pages. Seems to work okay, but I'm wondering about the PDF part: Does Mac OS X's "Print to PDF" function make a PDF suitable for going to press, like the "Press" setting in Acrobat—i.e. with full-resolution graphics, etc.? (I know Mac OS's PDFs embed the fonts in the document, so that part would seem to be covered.) Anyone know if there's anything to worry about there? Anything special I need to do?
    TIA,
    Andrew Main

What I'm working on is a reprint of the Japanese version of the Thanksgiving Address for The Tracking Project, a fine organization run by a friend of mine. The Thanksgiving Address is an ancient Mohawk prayer/invocation, thanking all the elements of the world around us for their contributions to our lives. The original version takes a week to recite (and an elder who died a decade ago may have been the last man who remembered the whole thing); this is a much abbreviated version for international distribution. We produced the first edition, in the original Mohawk and English, in 1993. A year or two later, one of John's associates in Germany said he'd like to do a German version, so we did that. And so on. We just put out an Italian version, making ten different languages, each with the original Mohawk. See below the cover and one spread from the original English version, and samples from the Hawaiian and the Japanese version, which I'm working on now.
I did the original English/Mohawk version in PageMaker in 1993, and every version since except the Japanese, as PageMaker doesn't handle Japanese. All the others are in the Latin alphabet, though the Hawaiian required a specially modified Palatino font (with accented letters in ASCII slots) which luckily someone at the University of Hawaii had made up in the pre-Unicode days. In the 90s I was sending PageMaker 5 files to the printer, which fortunately they could open and work onto the press; only in recent years have I come across an old copy of Acrobat and learned how to distill the PageMaker files into press-ready PDFs.
For the original Japanese version in 1999, I took the usual layout in PageMaker, with the Mohawk text but the space for the other text blank, had it printed out at a service bureau on fine paper, then made up the Japanese text in AppleWorks, had it printed, then pasted the Japanese text blocks onto the PageMaker printout, and took it to the printer, who fortunately still had a camera to photograph it. I've been in graphic arts since the 60s, and was an expert paste-up man (pretty good on the corner print shop black-and-white camera too, as well as the IBM Selectric Composer), worked on (among others) the Whole Earth Catalog in the 70s and Stereophile magazine in the 80s.
But now it's time to reprint the Japanese version, and the translator wants to make changes, so I figured it was finally time to try updating my work into the current computer world. I have no need of InDesign (nor money to buy it—or do you have to rent it now?). I first thought of using Libre/OpenOffice (wish they'd get that straightened out) for future file compatibility, and from what I knew it seemed to have all the details I needed for this simple job. But, as a Mac user exclusively since I got my first computer in 1988, I found the program opaque, and when I early ran into a situation where a command I needed wasn't on the menu the manual said it was on, I gave up and went to Pages, which I have used a little, though there's a lot about it I don't care for. It seems like a lot of effort has been put into the façade, but some pretty shoddy work behind it.
But I've found it not very difficult to set up the Japanese Thanksgiving Address job in Pages, only I'm concerned if the printer can use it. Thus my query here. I'll be contacting the printer, and send them a sample PDF to see if it works for them. I hope I won't have to add crop marks, as from my initial look at the Manual, it seems Master Objects are only available on WP documents (which seems dumb)—which means I would have to manually add them on all 44 pages. Anyway it's a simple job, black only, so it should be workable.
Apple has moved so far from their old base of professional print designers it would be safe to say it isn't going to do anything to fix the issues.
Yes, 'tis a pity indeed. Now if you could do professional graphics on an iPad, there'd probably be a lot of time put into perfecting it. The Mac, though, and what it used to do, is old hat.
Have you thought about running a 32 bit version of OSX that supports Pagemaker in emulation?
I tried that once, back in the OS X 10.4 days, and it made my fans go wild. Anyway, the problem is that PageMaker can't work with Japanese—or I could just run it on my G3 PowerBook as I do for the other jobs.
