Does Mail cope with large databases (import from Eudora)?

I have 1GB of email in Eudora in heavily nested folders. Will Mail be able to handle an import of my Eudora folders and even if it does, what performance can I expect, will Mail grind to a halt??
If anyone has done this type of import, how well did this work, did they use the Mail import tool or Eudora Mailbox Cleaner 4.9?
Thanks
Tony

1GB? Pah. lightweight.
My mail directory runs some 9.1GB and Mail has never shown a sign of caring.
That's not to say the import won't take a while - I'm sure it will, but I've yet to see at what point Mail.app cares about how much mail you have.

  • Database import from PSE -half success

    Hello,
I've just finished a mid-size database import from PSE to LR (32.000 mixed images).
    First observations:
    1. Unsuccessful migration of TAG hierarchy : some of the tags keep the hierarchy structure of PSE, most become flat. a given tag is divided sometimes in tow keywords (same keyword title!). a part is flat keyword, a part is child keyword
    2. complete disappearing of the PSE collections ! Oops
    3. Successful migration of the favorites(stars)
    4. Issues with dates (Creation date, capture date, etc.) - OOPS
Overall for me this is a failure !
Dommage as french are saying :(
LR can be very useful, but only if it understands other Adobe application wihtout faults !
overall comparison on performance : PSE is unsupportably slow at this size for basic file action (delete from catalog, file delete), LR performs better, meanwhile the on-the-fly preview generation is slower.

You never assign a value (True/False) to your function (ImportDBData). I would suggest googling "VBScript Function Syntax" to get a better understanding if you don't understand my answer.

I tried to answer in your other post.. please stick to one thread ..
What method of internet do you have.. is this fibre install.. if so the TC should just plug in and use dhcp in router mode.. press and hold the reset and it will go back to router mode by default.

  • Problem with  large databases.

Lightroom doesn't seem to like large databases.
I am playing catch-up using Lightroom to enter keywords to all my past photos. I have about 150K photos spread over four drives.
Even placing a separate database on each hard drive is causing problems.
The program crashes when importing large numbers of photos from several folders. (I do not ask it to render previews.) If I relaunch the program, and try the import again, Lightroom adds about 500 more photos and then crashes, or freezes again.
I may have to go back and import them one folder at a time, or use iView instead.
This is a deal-breaker for me.
I also note that it takes several minutes after opening a databese before the HD activity light stops flashing.
I am using XP on a dual core machine with, 3Gigs of RAM
    Anyone else finding this?
    What is you work-around?

    Christopher,
True, but given the number of posts where users have had similar problems ingesting images into LR--where LR runs without crashes and further trouble once the images are in--the probative evidence points to some LR problem ingesting large numbers.
I may also be that users are attempting to use LR for editing during the ingestion of large numbers--I found that I simply could not do that without a crash occuring. When I limited it to 2k at a time--leaving my hands off the keyboard-- while the import occured, everything went without a hitch.
However, as previously pointed out, it shouldn't require that--none of my other DAMs using SQLite do that, and I can multitask while they are ingesting.
But, you are right--multiple single causes--and complexly interrated multiple causes--could account for it on a given configuration.

  • Problem with jpeg images imported from Illustrator

Hi, i am kind of new with Premire and video, though have experience in web design and coding, but i have noticed a weird problem with premiere pro cs 5.5  when i  import jpeg pictures and put them as intro before the video that where done in adobe illustrator and have vectors and stuff, the quality of the image gets pretty bad and blurry...i searched through the internet looking for clues on what to do like changing to png, tiff formats but nothing has helped so far....any ideas on what to do. So when i import jpeg, png images from illustrator (that have vectors or illustrations) do i have to do something special with it, or import it in some special format??? i would appreciate the help.
This is how the image looks on youtube:
Anyway here is the video with its poor image quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oMNzXAZ8Y&feature=youtu.be
This is how it looks originally before putiing it, in premiere pro cs 5.5
Anyway here is the video with its poor image quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oMNzXAZ8Y&feature=youtu.be
THANX guys would appreciate the help!!!

    hiya.
video likes 72 dpi ( though some will say it doesnt matter .. thats a long story ). basically video 'shows' 72 dpi ( basically what the monitor resolution is...typically 72 dpi ).  As you know from print and dimensions, there is a relative sorta thing with byte count ( file size in bytes ), ppi ( I usually say dpi but in video its ppi ....same thing basically )..., and dimensions ( width x height ).
soooo , as you know in print and web stuff...there is a relationship between number of dots or pixels, dimensions in inches or pixels, and overall byte count of file size....
That said, in "print" it is usually best to go with 300dpi.. In video it is best to go with 72 ppi.....
Also, in print and going offest press.. its nice to go with cmyk ( for color separations ).. but in video and web its best to go with RGB.
The video stuff doesnt deal with vector stuff... it just sees and deals with bitmapped stuff...vector stuff is a mathematical sorta thing whereas video stuff is just plain old bitmaps ( like BMP, TIF, JPG, etc )...
Ideally your still images and graphics in a video editing program would be bitmapped rgb 72 ppi.. and match exactly the dimension of your video format ( eg. 1080p ).  That said, it is normal to have LARGER images ( still images and graphics ) than your project dimensions if you PLAN ON SCALING AND MOTION )... like, your original graphic or pic can be larger than the project if you plan on scaling it down over time to make it look like you are zooming out in the video ....
To get the best results of a graphic or picture in a video is to have it exactly the project size ( eg. 1920x1080 px at 72 ppi for full HD ).
soooooo.... if you convert your vector to bitmap, save as psd or tif or something... at 72ppi , with the dimensions in inches or pixels that equals the video ( 1920x1080 for example )... you will see what you want in your second sample ( the original )...
ps.. you can import layers to the video if you wanna do a psd file and have ONE of those layers the one you use in your video ...can label it something like " video layer " ... whatever...

  • Importing from Eudora problems - html messages being displayed in plain text and problems with attachments

    Hello,
I hope you can help me. I've imported all my emails from Eudora into Outlook 2010 but I have a couple of problems.
All emails that I've imported which had attachments with them have a notice on them saying the attachment has been blocked. I can always browse to the folder whereb my old attachments are stored, but this is still inconvenient.
Secondly, all my messages that I've sent in the past (html) are being displayed in plain text, which is making them difficult to read because of all the html tags being displayed.
Also with emails that I've sent in the past- there is no record of any attachments being sent with messages which I know had attachments with them.
Any ideas? I've trawled google and had no luck except finding programs that cost $70 that can import everything properly.
    David

    David:
I know this is a very old thread, but did you every figure out a way to fix the formatting of imported Eudora mail?
I just "upgraded" from Eudora to Outlook 2010 ...
and have 10 years worth of HTML formatted e-mail that now shows up as plain text with embedded html formatting ...
apparently it is a long-running problem that has roots in the way Eudora formats messages ...
Outlook and other e-mail clients all seems to have issues with importing and do not properly recognize HTML-formatted messages from Eudora ... very sad that I can no longer really "read" my old e-mail at this point ...  :-(

  • Can't import from Eudora into Mail

I'm trying to import mailboxes from Eudora into Mail. Unfortunately, Mail crashes right in the middle of the process.  Has anyone had this problem?  If it can't be solved, is there a way to do this manually? Finally, if all else fails, what do you consider to be a good email program other than Mail?  I'd like to upgrade to Snow Leopard and

Last I knew, Eudora ran fine under 10.5.8
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Run a SQL procedure with multi database querying from Excel

I'm using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. I created a procedure in one database. The procedure is composed of several queries to different databases and the final combined result set is being displayed.
I try to execute it via Excel, so the results will appear automatically in Excel sheet, but I'm getting the error:
"The query did not run, or the database table could not be opened. Check the database server or contact your DBA. Make sure the external
database is available and hasn't been moved or recognized, then try the operation again".
I created a simpler procedure that queries only one database, and the results displayed at the Excel sheet with no issues.
I suspect that, the original procedure failed due to the fact that I'm querying several databases in the procedure, when in the connection details of the "External Data Properties", only one database is mentioned.
My question is - can it be solved? Can I use multiple databases in the procedure and see it in the Excel?
    Thanks, Roni

Use Global Temporary table(##) instead of Local Temporary table(#).
The scope of the temp table is limited to one database and it dispose automatically when jump to another database.
No, that is not correct. From where did you get that idea?
    USE tempdb
    go
CREATE TABLE #a(a int NOT NULL)
    INSERT #a(a) VALUES(9)
    go
    USE master
    go
    SELECT a FROM #a
    go
    USE msdb
    go
    SELECT a FROM #a
    go
    DROP TABLE #a
And Roni's stored procedure does not even change database.
...however, the temp tables may very well be the problem, but for a completely different reason. Excel may ask SQL Server for the shape of the result set before it runs the procedeure, and this does not work with the temp tables. For this reason, using a
table variable my save the show.

  • How does Arch cope with occasional upgrades?

    Hi all,
I'm a long time Gentoo user, but as I don't have the time to upgrade my system every five minutes I only end up running upgrades every few months (or when I want to install a program that has a long string of dependencies.)
Unfortunately this process always ends in tears for me, as Gentoo is not designed to go for more than a few weeks between upgrades.  So every time I do this packages fail to compile, programs won't run because of missing dependencies, libraries can't be upgraded because of weird conflicts, and I generally end up tearing my hair out trying to get my system back up and running again.
So I've pretty much had enough of this and I'm looking for a new distro.  Gentoo would be perfect if it could cope with lengthy delays between upgrades, and from what I have read Arch has a similar methodology so I'm thinking Arch might be the way to go.
So - how does Arch cope if you wait six months or more between upgrading software packages?  After upgrading a library, do you need to "manually" (at least Gentoo has a script) find applications that have broken and update those too?  Or does pacman leave you with a working system every time you run it?
Any other insights that would be useful for someone coming from the Gentoo world?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful replies!  Just to clarify, the problems I have with Gentoo are not so much the changes (e.g. updating configuration files to work with a new app version) my main complaint is that the upgrade just doesn't work.  If I could run one command and come back 24 hours later and it was complete then that would be fine, the problem I have is that it breaks every few packages so doing a full upgrade takes days - and I mean days where you are sitting in front of it manually adding, removing and reinstalling packages to keep the package management system happy.
So when you mention things like packages changing their names or a python2 -> python3 transition, do you mean that pacman can't automatically handle this, and some manual intervention would be required?  Because really, all I'm after is something like Gentoo but with less compile errors and nonsense complaints about package conflicts - something smart enough to just figure out what needs to be done by itself.  But if this is likely to happen under Arch as well, maybe you're right and something like Ubuntu would be more my style (wow, coming from Slackware originally, I never thought I'd say that!)
Of course if it's binary-based then presumably these errors surface much faster than they do with Gentoo, so I'm curious - what are the types of problems you mostly get from pacman when upgrading your whole system?

  • How well does SAP copes with a manufacturing environment ......?

    Hi all,
I wanted to check about how well SAP copes with a manufacturing environment where there are many parts for many product lines, with small production quantities being the norm. In this case, you would see many BOMs, High quantity of POs, Supplier invoices etc. This is in addition to the normal needs for Quality inspection forms, WIP movement and valuation. It's intended to utilise all the modules, ordering, inventory, quality, purchasing, MRP, sales order, invoicing, payments, AR/AP, HR, CRM.

    Hi,
Not sure about the scenario - many BOMs for many production line - Is it that there are very high number of material master data which has BOMs or there are lot of BOMs for single material. If it is the second case, concept of variant configuration can be used, where number of BOMs are reduced by using super BOM.
Regarding high quantity of POs: probably you can exlpore the option of clubbing small POs into a single one for common vendors.
    Regards,
    Amalesh

  • Dates incorrect when importing from Eudora

When importing mailboxes from Eudora, it seems that the emails I have received all have their dates correct in Mail, but all the emails that I sent have their dates set to the date the import was done. Is there any way to avoid this?
    Thanks,
    John Link

    Hi there,
Thanks for the response.  Playing with the date/time format on the camera doesn't make a difference.  Nor does changing the way the MacBook keps track of date/time information.  Tried both those things and wound up with the same result as before (ie. seemingly randomized folder dates).  In the PE organizer, the date view looks fine and everything comes out organized properly.  It's just purely the folders themselves that appear to have the problem.
It does seem as though the problem lies somewhere in the actual interaction between camera and computer (since it's really only in the Finder view that this is a problem).  At present I've just stopped asking Elements to create subfolders since the bulk of my organizational stuff is done through tags and albums applied in the organizer anyway.  So it's not a big deal.  Just odd.

  • Import from Eudora - no messages in mailboxes

Having used Eudora for too many years, I now have a real mess in the references to attachments. Many of the attachments are no longer accessible from the messages that they arrived in, even though they are still in the attachments folder.
I thought I would try to clean up some of this mess by having Mail import the old mail from Eudora.
I kicked off Mail to import my Eudora mail, all 700MB of it (mainly attachments). 20 minutes later, it had finished. All the mailboxes were there. But there were no messages in them. Not-a-one! When I looked at the mailbox files, they were all very short. There were some attachments, but only 96MB of them.
I tried quitting and restarting Mail, rebooting the machine, and telling Mail to rebuild the mailboxes. Still no messages.
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened?
    Cheers
    David

    David,
the Eudora import of Mail has some serious shortcomings (like taking 20 minutes...) - you might want ot consider re-importing your Eudora mail using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner - it should give you much better results (the imported mailboxes initially will appear empty as well but rebuilding them should solve this issue - I guess you should try that first)

  • Import from Eudora

I'm finally making the transition from Eudora to Mail.
Mail imported mailboxes from Eudora. However, it only imported the mailbox names, not their contents. That was disappointing.
I suppose that's the way it's supposed to work, but I want to get a reality check on that.
Is there a way to import Eudora mailboxes, indcluding all the messages in them? How?
I guess I could email all those messages to myself, but there must be thousands of them.
    Thanks in advance,
